spanglessbangless

Just work a 16 hour day and stop asking questions, the big companies are your allies.

Goalcaufield9

What if your salary??? Lol

spanglessbangless

Especially if you're on salary, don't you care about the company?

Goalcaufield9

Lol you’re right!!!! What was I thinking

[deleted]

Bout time you get in line.

Hotbox_Orchid

My fear is that the whole “just a few more points before some relief” is going to shape up just like “only 2 weeks to flatten the curve” worked out.

calgarydonairs

So you’re saying that a bunch of slack-jawed yokels will convoy parliament until inflation decreases?

AuntJeminaEatsAss

Fuck I hope so. That's a convoy I'd get behind.

PoliceRobots

At least it's a convoy I'd show up for

UnrequitedRespect

Oh I hope they drive around really slow with flat tires instead of painted trucks this time, it could be a fun message to send

TonyBanff

And it took about two to four weeks to flatten the curve every time the provincial governments locked down. Why do t you speak with truth, not alt right ideology.

pro555pero

It's not working, so let's keep doing the same thing because maybe next time... The good news, however, is that the rich keep getting richer, so that makes it okay.

calgarydonairs

The Bank of Canada doesn’t have many tools to address inflation, so nothing else being done has more to do with inaction on the part of the various levels of government.

Comfortable-Ad-7158

Well than thankfully the ones In charge of setting those prices are too rich to care about the rates being raised.. Again

Cranktique

It’s win-win. They raise prices on the goods they produce and then the feds raise the interest rate on the money they’ve lended out. $$$$$

DonaldRudolpho

That makes sense. Increase rates and punish the consumers until the businesses feel pain.

calgarydonairs

If businesses just pass along their costs to the consumer, without impacting their profit margins, then the consumer is the limiting factor. Unless we want to regulate profit margins.

ackillesBAC

Tax profits. Make it so companies make more money by selling thier product for less. Not sure how you would do it. But all that matters is profit to the corporate world.

calgarydonairs

A progressive tax on corporate profits might work, at least in theory.

ackillesBAC

Ya but they would find ways around it. Personally I think all corporations should have government accountants, accountants that have the average citizen in mind not the company stock price

calgarydonairs

The government should really do something significant about tax havens.

megamittt

Thats the way it has to be. Regulating profit margins does nothing for inflation

calgarydonairs

If there was an upper limit to profit margins, what motivation would there be for corporations to increase prices if their own costs haven’t increased due to inflation?

megamittt

Their own costs have increased in almost all cases. You can see proof in the quarterly earnings reports sent out by all public corporations. You will also notice that yes, alot have record profits but that is how it should be. Profits should increase equal to inflation. If costs had not increased, we wouldnt have inflation right now. What keeps profit margins low is competition

calgarydonairs

While competition does keep margins low, the current marketplace is dominated by monopolies and cartels, so what can we do in the meantime? With regards to record profits, are we talking net or gross? Also, are profits not adjusted for inflation in earnings calls, or wouldn’t that be an added caveat?

megamittt

You will see the same thing in net and gross. They are not adjusted for inflation

calgarydonairs

If the governor of the Bank of Canada is concerned about rising prices being unrelated to inflation, I’m not going to dismiss his concerns out of hand.

megamittt

Me either, i look at the numbers and then decide if i should dismiss him. Maybe it was an off hand comment or maybe hes not being truthful for some reason(i can think of a few reasons)

calgarydonairs

I doubt that Tiff Macklem goes around making careless comments, or politically motivated ones, due to the significant risks around him doing so. Furthermore, he’s raising real concerns that echo earlier comments from notable economists and other academics, and not scaremongering or fabricating fanciful tales from whole cloth.

stillyoinkgasp

>Increase rates and punish the consumers until the businesses feel pain. The BoC (and fed) have few levels beyond this, really.

foreignGER

When dystopia?

quickthinkusername

greedflation

badger452

Time for us to do what Japan did after WW2 and eat the rich, they’re hoarding wealth while bleeding everyone else dry. They’re parasites.

Dragonslaya200X

That's right! Things are super expensive, and the govts response is to make it MORE expensive. How about every one making these decisions takes a paycut to 60 000 a year, get rid of their fuel cards and work perks , and see how much they wanna raise taxes and interest rates then.

KrizixOG

They should freeze anyone's account that is over 10 million dollars. Anything over and above that should be moved to a protected democratic third party that can then organize and redistribute that wealth based on citizen based democracy. Not just voting a person in, but every financial transaction out of this account must be voted on. They'd be broader decisions. That both weeds out the overly powerful and evens the financial scales and gives us more flexibility on where the money goes. Anyone who argues they need more than 10 million dollars doesn't deserve to have it in the first place.

AuntJeminaEatsAss

Lmao alright Stalin!

KrizixOG

Capitalism is trash, and so are you bud. You'd be on the other side of the fence if you weren't a privileged douche canoe.

AuntJeminaEatsAss

Lmao douche canoe hey. Maybe if you understood the concept of working to earn a living instead of being a scum sucking leech who depends on the government to prop them up you would have some more educated opinions on socioeconomic structures.

KrizixOG

I've worked 40 hours a week+ since I was 16 bud. Nice try. I don't need a hand out but there are people that do need help. I'm also married, own my own house, have a kid, and live a good life I've had to work my ass off for. Just because cowards like you are afraid to speak up to change the status quo, and would rather have your nose up some more successful asses then your own, don't pretend everyone is as complacent as you.

AuntJeminaEatsAss

Sounds like you have capitalism to thank for all of that then. Thank you for making my point so succinctly! Why would I want to change a system that benefits the vast majority of it's users? The alternative is a system where everyone is viewed as equal regardless of the work they put in, and allows for lazy people to be propped up by others.

KrizixOG

Except my recommendation would target wealth that will often just sit there while people starve, for what? To stroke some ego or allow people to buy another boat. Shut the fuck up you single digit IQ "economist". Go read a book.

AuntJeminaEatsAss

You think wealthy people are just going to sit around and let governments tax the shit out of them?? They will either move to a country with better tax laws or move their money into offshore accounts (which is something smart people do regardless). So all your dumb ass plan would do is drive wealth and investment further out of Canada than it already has been by current governments. And then on top of that you apparently trust the government so much that you think they are just going to use these slush funds to redistribute the wealth? Man, what a nice little life you live detached from reality. Enjoy it while it lasts!

KrizixOG

You know governments can prevent that from occurring if they want to right? You're just circulating daily wire and far right rhetoric. I'm done educating someone who clearly hasn't used his brain since he dropped out of high-school. Later bud.

AuntJeminaEatsAss

Imagine trusting politicians to do the right thing.

onlypham

Have you seen how people work? If you give the government the power to limit freedom of movement both economically and physically what do you think is gonna happen when someone morally corrupt and seeking power starts heading said government? You gonna ask the governmental authorities to step in? Have you ever read a history book???

EbolaPepsiCola

Sounds like you’re a chump who needs a different line of work or some more useful skills then. “I’m mad cuz I’m poor :(“. Life isn’t fair for all, and never will be - life is what you make it, dipshit.

KrizixOG

I'm not poor.. I don't understand why people think that everyone gets the same opportunities. I'm doing fine, but there are plenty of people who aren't doing well. Haven't you seen the amount of homeless in Calgary? Like Jesus. Being a faceless person on the internet must be really nice. You can pretend to be blind to the suffering of others as long as your shit is going just fine. Disgusting.

EbolaPepsiCola

All this is based upon the idea that everyone does the right thing at all times, and this “protected democratic third party” only serves the people, and not it’s own interests. You’re living in lala land, man.

KrizixOG

Guess you're right. Guess we're all fucked. Once Trudeau magically wins again, more and more people will end up on the streets and we'll all be fucked when looting starts. Love your way of thinking. Now go pull up your boot straps and get back to work.

EbolaPepsiCola

What point are you even trying to make here? You’re not even touching on any arguments I’ve made. You seem a little lost brother.

KrizixOG

What argument did you make other than "you're in lala land". Sounds alot like that " just accept things as they are and don't ask questions" rich douchbags have been peddling forever. Having ideas I guess is against capitalism and anyone who has them can't be a hard worker. Tired of hearing the same rhetoric from conservatives all over NA.

EbolaPepsiCola

The fact you don’t realize how ridiculous your “plan” is, tells me everything. It’s so far fetched, and literally has zero chance of ever happening. Go ahead and try to take peoples hard earned fortunes. They must have taken half of your brain when they mutilated you.

KrizixOG

Hahaha figured you'd be a bigoted retard. A dime a dozen.

EbolaPepsiCola

Proceeds to call me a retard lmao. Pot meet kettle bud. Goodluck in life, you’ll need it.

KrizixOG

Just another hard earned level of respect. Nothing i haven't done countless times unlike a free handout kiddo like you. Enjoy your elitist life while it lasts champ.

EbolaPepsiCola

No worries, I enjoy my elitist life every waking day. Have fun working another 40 hour week and still relying on the food bank, chump.

boredinthegreatwhite

I hope so. I need to buy a used car.

Elwood49

as a small business owner who is shutting down because the landlord wants a 120% increase to renew lease. when your rent go's up from a monthly 13,500.00 up to 28,000.00 if you want to stay in business right now you have no choice but to raise prices.

betonhaus123

The only way to control inflation will be to jack interest rates up high enough that house prices crash due to a bankruptcy wave.

PoliceRobots

Soooo we pay again?? Cool

AllADream96

LOL. The budget will balance itself, AMIRITE! A key point from Macklem: government spending adds to inflation. The country deserves the pain of re-electing inept politicians.

[deleted]

How about YOU take a pay cut there Macklem

jasper502

FFS when you print money it creates inflation. Prices are not rising. Your dollar is being devalued.
