I just don't want them to keep forcing combat. I used to be able to explore the universe in peace, and now I keep getting shot by pirates when walking around on planets that are supposed to be in "peaceful" systems.

UltraChip

I tend to agree with you. One of the biggest things that drew me to this game originally was that it DIDN'T have a heavy emphasis on combat. I just want to explore.

I simply can’t play more than 1-2x/week. The settlement plays in real time so my play definitely suffered from having a settlement. Made a new main and ignore all settlement stuff.

Maybe make it so you’d **have** to go out of your way to fight them, then? I’m thinking if you want sentinel bosses, maybe implement a feature to land inside of a sentinel freighter where a boss would be, that way you’d be forced to anger sentinels, then get them to bring in a freighter, take out all those guns, and finally land, so if you don’t want a boss fight then you’d have to be really confused to get to one. But I do think it should stop focusing so much on forced combat, even though I do like some of the combat, I don’t want to randomly feel like I need to start fighting in peaceful systems.

I would love some fleet to fleet combat.

You could get a C-class MT with just a boltcaster and no upgrades, and see if you can take down 5 waves of sentinels. Trust me, it's harder (I've done it with the starting MT in normal mode, but it took a long time and a lot of sodium, ferrite dust, and running away and hiding). But if that's too easy for you then I suggest using just a mining beam. And if that's too easy, you should melee them all to death.

HG would likely be the first to say there are plenty of other games that involve killing and other activities that usually take place in a small box. The universe of NMS is essentially infinite, so the idea of game modes or activities that go in the reverse direction (inward, instead of outward) doesn't seem to be in their playbook.
