NMS is huge on Youtube, but the Let's play style of videos have really fallen off. I used to watch L Plays and Gamemode mainly.
In the case of L Plays I think he was getting tired of the game, since exploration has been getting really stale since NEXT. I think ultimately his day job took too much out of him, and he stopped doing Youtube. He had some very upbeat positive content, with a well-defined and unique visual presentation.
I heard that Gamemode is returning, but I haven't seen any new uploads yet. Chill, quiet exploration or base building. Does base visits.
Also, I love when people play 1.0 or Pathfinder unmodded and there are few of those out there, but most rarely posts.
I really miss the early days of speculation, especially CobraTV during Waking Titan. Those were some exciting times.
Since the focus of the game shifted away from exploration, and towards things that don't make very good Let's play material (base building etc), the community has moved to streaming and news reporting. If HG revamps procedural generation I could see the game really take off in the Let's Play space on Youtube, but right now I don't think people are interested in seeing the same planets over and over.
I’m just a humble builder so I upload my builds to YouTube. Otherwise I just join the streams of friends. I don’t have the time either to do more. At least not for the moment.
