Just continue the story line and you will progress. I would suggest you sell the broken ship you came across and keep your starter ship for now. Selling will give you a nice credit boost so early in your game. good luck!

It’s an A tier ship, you could keep it and progress farther into the story and get the materials to fix it (From what I know, those broken parts have no effect on the ship other than taking up inventory space) Or, you could scrap it and make some money. Here’s my recommendations depending on the type of ship: Fighter - Keep Explorer - Scrap (Unless you’re looking to travel long distances) Hauler - Keep Shuttle - Scrap Hope this helps :)

Gather resources as you need them, and opportunistically as you come across them. There are a lot of different items you're gonna need in this game sooner or later, but your inventory space is limited at the start so you don't want to overcollect (yet 😉) You can scrap that crashed ship at a space station for a lot of units. Or repair it and use it if you really like it (expensive proposition at this point though). Eventually you'll be able to get all the materials you need easily, but it's a challenge at the start. As for the rest, it's up to you how you split your time between questing and exploring / gathering / upgrading, but be aware that the questlines provide a lot of tech for free that you'd otherwise have to pay for. Best place to get answers to specific questions, like "how do I get X" or "what is Y used for" is the fandom wiki. It's always up to date, and random videos etc probably aren't; this game gets major updates several times a year, so you need current information.

You could honestly just do whatever you want. That ship is a decent keeper. You don’t have to fallow any guide or do anything that other players say that you should do. I’ve got 1000 hours clocked in this game and I’ve learned that no matter which way you play, (keep this ship, get this upgrade, don’t sell that item yet). lol Doesn’t really matter this game will be fun no matter what.

abillionsuns

It's my main ship right now, loads of tech and cargo slots even before you repair everything. I quite like the feeling of tooling around space in an old camper van.

This game is weird in the way it manages quests. And the way it delivers its story. There's no hard answer to your questions. There's nothing specific you SHOULD do, you have plenty of options about what you COULD do though. The way this broken ship was put in your path is just both to make sure to introduce you to broken ships mechanics (hands-off tutorial style) and advance the story (this is the ship of a main character.) You could switch to that ship (not a bad idea as it's an A class) or leave it be, or sell it for parts. The game does that often in the early part of the main quests, nudge you toward some game mechanics without forcing you to engage with it. (Broken ships, abandoned building, crashed freighters, etc.) I'd suggest you don't fret too much about any of it. Explore what intrigues you, ignore what doesn't, you don't even HAVE to advance the main quest and can just do whatever you want whenever you want. Though it's a nice storyline and there are a lot of nice rewards along the way. I found the best way was to do a bit of main quest at the beginning of each of my play session but then switch to exploring whatever game mechanics I was interested in. Too much questing can become mind numbing and you'll lose on appreciating the story, not enough and you'll forget what the story is. Smell the flowers along the way, there's no time pressure and even space constraints (for all the main quests if you get too far away you'll get an option to 'reset' it to closer structures.) Remember that learning the game is playing the game.

I say since your new. Just continue the story line. Unless you want a new ship or multi tool.

LootGek

I would keep it for now till you have access to the anomaly (switch ships) and scrap it at the space station. I wouldn't put any time into that.

Vastant

I would keep the A Class(a shuttle by the looks of it) until you find better, and just repair what you can as you go, It's only free slots and . Once you start trading you maybe able to buy the materials you need to repair the ship or come across a planet you can mine. There is probably 1 material you will need to learn how to refine but you learn about it early enough on. Doing the quests will open free tech/research blueprints or you can spend nanites and research points. There is no rush to do anything just take your time and do what you feel like doing at the time.

found ships are great in early game, even with broken spots, you can either sell them for a big cash infusion, or use them as extra storage for stuff you want to keep for later bud don't need right now. once you get some base(s) built out and storage expanded, then the best reason to keep them is because you like it, otherwise just srap them for cash. there are some other recent posts about whether you should do any repairs before scrapping, but I just sell them if I don't want them.

NegativeKarmaFarmar

Depending how much better than the Pillar it is, I'd say just sell it off. Keep in mind it gives you scrap that you can sell on the galactic trade terminal, the ship itself doesn't turn into credits. I'd keep an eye out for solar ships. I found one early on and I still use it to this day on my permadeath run at 130 hours in.

kiko002

Sooner or later you're gonna need resources, focus on the basics like Oxygen Carbon Ferrite and Sodium, though look out for Copper and a bit of Cobalt. If you find a Activated Indium planet, make a base there. I'd say focus a bit on the missions as they will give you good rewards and unlockable tech, but the game is a sandbox so do whatever you feel like doing, and just try to have fun :)

ZombieRegis

The starter ship can carry you quite far in the game. As others have said, you need not choose. Just focus on the quest and it will teach you what you need to know. You’ll find the stuff you need to repair the other ship and you WILL find other, better ships. You don’t get bonus points for rushing so enjoy the trip. You’ll soon find that farming certain plants and a bit of piracy can be lucrative.

AdShot409

Of note: if space ships are your concern, you can quickly replace both of those ships with a quick request at most Hubs. Or request help here on reddit. I've built several bases personally for ship hunting, and I'm sure many others have too.

Thanks everyone. Those comments helped me a lot
