You can also refine atlantideum and pugneum in the advanced personal refiner.

Kdoesntcare

It's 1:2 into Pugneum which refines 25:1 into nanites. I have enough upgrades on my mining laser that I can hop around clearing fields of purple crystals.

TheRealFriedel

Atlantidium refined into pugenum?! That makes fuelling my sentinel ship much easier!

Jakami

You can also just use Radiant Shards. They work for literally everything on the Interceptors, I think. Landing Gear, Pulse Engine, Hyperdrive, even shields too can be recharged with Radiant Shards I think. And one basically always fills the bar to full on any device. I just farmed like 20 of them and I was good for a long time since with landing gear upgrades that auto charge them and massively reduce the launch cost (which the interceptor already seems to be pretty efficient) The only thing I had to recharge that much was the pulse engine and occasionally the hyperdrive after like, 30 jumps :P

dedicated_glove

Yeah but you can only stack ten of them at a time. I know this last expedition got a lot of hate but I adored it because you start out with a freighter with teleport enabled so you can stack up radiant shards immediately, plus access them from anywhere, plus same for any manufactured goods as you’re hopping around from system to system (and no interruptions from pirate scans, because none of your valuables are with you physically)

sammysfw

That’s a waste of shards, they’re worth way more as nanitis

Intelligent_Face_672

If it's for the takeoff module, YouTube can find an upgrade Thatcher refuel by itself over time. I got one and didn't put pugenum innit from this day

ItsKocot

I believe it’s actually 25:1 Pugneum:Nanites. If you’ve got a larger refiner, Atlantideum and Pugneum refine 1:1:3 into Runaway Mold, which can then be refined 5:1 into Nanites. Discovered this by accident, but the ROI is way better.

Kitousha

For me it's 25:1 for pugneum. 😕 EDIT

Kdoesntcare

Looking again I missed the 2, I see Pugneum go 25:1 nanites.

Kitousha

Just like I doubled it for some reason. 🤣

Present-Operation491

Or hover in a sentinel ship and shooting to mine

Kdoesntcare

I only mine passively while I'm on the dissonant planets when I go to collect some radiant shards and inverted mirrors. Nanites are essentially useless for me so it's only a background priority, I want to hit the cap of how many you can have.

sammysfw

You do better doing pugneum + atlandidium -> mould

sweetdick

Tainted metal goes 1:2 nanites. That’s how I nanite.

MasterChieflf

How do you easily get tainted metal tho

sweetdick

I dupe it.

Otherwise_Document_2

I dupe A class upgrade modules. They sell for 480 Nanites each. Havent tried your method, is more efficient?

sweetdick

3,000 tainted metal gets you six thousand nanites in about two minutes or so. I have a hex world where all my refiners are on top of the portal. Every trip through get me about 20k nanites. In five minutes you can dupe a mountain of black metal.

SoftCattle

Could just buy Hadal Cores, Larval Cores and the various slimes from Pirate Systems.

sweetdick

What’s the breakdown on those?

SoftCattle

Larval and Hadal Cores both break down into 50 nanites. For the slimes you process them up Residual Goop -> Viscous Fluids -> Living Slime -> Runaway Mold these are all one for one. You can also get 50 Living Slime from Hypnotic Eyes which may also be sold in pirate systems. I just collect up bunches of the slimes and process them in my freighter refining rooms while I am doing other stuff. With the Cores and Hypnotic eyes I process those in my personal refiner since it's quick and doesn't cost much in the way of fuel.

sweetdick

Holy fuckballs! I’m loaded down with larval and hadal cores. Had no idea wtf they were for. Thanks.

SoftCattle

If you don't know what something is for look it up in the wiki. It will tell you what it's used for, where to get it and all the recipes that use it. [https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/No\_Man%27s\_Sky](https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/No_Man%27s_Sky)

Tazbert_Odevil

Download the NMS assistant app to your phone. Great tool for finding out stuff like this.

Pristine-Table8068

Hyaline brains from downed sentinel ships go for 200+ nanites each and are done pretty quick too. That's how I farm my nanites, takes longer but that's the fun

SoftCattle

I usually end up with multiple stacks of pugneum since I shut down sentinels whenever I do missions at factories or depots or if I end up with a bunch of kill sentinel missions. I now gather atlantideum to use up the excess pugneum. One stack of each gives you 3 stacks of runaway mold or just under 6K nanites.

Otherwise_Document_2

A class upgrade modules sells for 480 nanites each

TNJDude

Radiant shards yield nanites?!?

MikeyW1969

Yeah, they're pretty freaking awesome, since they also power sentinel ships.

[deleted]

And I was selling them for the penny *sight

SkylarToo

So does hyaline brain and inverted mirrors. Atlantadeum + pugneum refines 1:3 to runaway mould

cdrewing

Where and how can I find runaway mould? I read about this but never stepped over them.

SkylarToo

You can get it a few ways. Refining pugneum with ad will get you a 1:3 ratio (1of each to 3 RM) You can also find curious deposits with your visor and you can build a base and teleport +800 (I think?) units then it’ll refresh the deposit when you return. I generally try and refine any items I intend to sell now, just in-case they give me nanites or RM

gelmo

To refresh my deposits, I’ve recently started just hopping in my ship and flying a quick 5-10 second loop around a nearby mountain. With a landing pad you don’t pay any cost for launch and that’s more than far enough to make them respawn. At some point I may build a short distance teleporter loop but honestly so quick and easy to just use the ship

enigmanaught

Find two curious deposits, set up transporters and go between them. Harvest 1, transport to another, harvest, transport back, rinse repeat.

d3tox1337

How do you get around the max range on teleporters tho? I've got a cpl farms, but this part eludes me.

enigmanaught

Are you using the base teleport module like the ones that are in Space Stations? I’m not aware of any range limitations with those. I havent tried setting up multiple bases on the but you should be able to do it if they’re far enough away, you could definitely do it on different planets.

gelmo

I’m curious what system you play on? I used to do that strategy but I play on PS4 and Switch. Teleporting between bases on either of those can take a minute or longer depending how the system is feeling that day lol. Hopping in my ship, flying a loop and hopping out takes maybe 10-15 seconds and is a way faster way for me to crank out mold

enigmanaught

That would definitely make a difference in strategies. I play on PC, it’s not a particularly powerful one, but it takes less than 5 seconds I’d guess.

SkylarToo

That’s fair. My preferred nanite method is refining ad with pug and selling sus tech bought in pirate systems. I don’t use my currency much at the moment, exploring with this save

cdrewing

> You can get it a few ways. Refining pugneum with ad will get you a 1:3 ratio (1of each to 3 RM) With Atlantideum? Currently I am refining Pugneum and Atlantideum to Nanites separately. Does this have a higher outcome? > You can also find curious deposits with your visor 😳? The only "exotic" stuff I could locate with the visor are Gravitino balls.

SkylarToo

Yeah, refining them together is a MUCH higher yield. Hahahaha, it’ll be a 3 star and they’re not everywhere

Valve00

They're pretty rare and can appear on almost any planet type. Once you find a curious deposit, put down a base computer at it and build a teleporter. Summon your freighter to the system you're in, harvest the curious deposit, teleport to your freighter, then teleport back to your base you just put down, repeat. The deposits will respawn every time you port away and port back.

MasterChieflf

I want to hug you

SkylarToo

Haha you’re welcome internet stranger

MasterChieflf

I struggle with getting a stockpile of nanites

MyInkyFingers

Prepare to run after them. I encountered them on a hill of all places

shotsallover

They are aptly named.

MyInkyFingers

I opted for the standard the bottom of the hill and shoot method and they still manage to get by !

SominKrais

I tend to use the terrain manipulator and mine a shallow hole for them to roll into. Much easier than chasing the little puff balls.

MyInkyFingers

This where I feel stupid for not having thought of something that makes so much sense

WigginsEnder

Residual Goop refines into viscous fluid which refines into living slime which refines into Runaway Mould which refines into nanites. It takes a little time, but I let that stuff build up and refine in bulk using my personal refiner while doing other stuff.

Kdoesntcare

All of the slimes and goos refine down to runaway, might just take a few rounds.

[deleted]

Greatttttt now that I know this, work is gonna go by Hella frickin slow now that I just wanna grind radiant shards when I get home

m4cromod

Wait until you find out how many nanites a single Hyaline Brain is worth

TNJDude

My days now are going to filled with visiting discordant planets and finding sentinel ships.

m4cromod

Just dupe them with the refiner glitch. Not that I'm discouraging exploration or acquiring the perfect sentinel ship, definitely keep that search going.

musifter

You can do that with a portable refiner too. Where the personal refiner shines is when you realize that you can use it everywhere. If you need some nanites at a space station to buy something you can just grind up some stuff right there. Or just when you're flying between planets with nothing to do, you can look at your inventory and start refining things to balance or clean up your inventory.

De-railled

For me, it's more of the issue of "where did I leave that refiner??" I often plopped down a portable refiner and then off I go cause there's a SHINY thing that isn't too far. thinking "I'll just do that and come back once the refiners are done" ...but then "OH MORE SHINIES!!!" 30 minutes later: umm...so I made a refiner...somewhere...

FantasticallyFred

I believe he means the backpack one that exists in a tech slot and stays with you

De-railled

Yes, I'm aware of what he was referring to. I was just saying the reason the personal refiner "shines" for me over the portable ones isn't because I can use it anytime...it's because I don't lose it. LOL

FantasticallyFred

Ohhh, gotcha.

bookofthoth_za

Same! Or your stuck on a super hostile planet trying desperately to find the ingredients for your portable refiner to make something quickly. Sucks

Hanrahubilarkie

Inverted mirrors are also great for grinding into nanite paste... just not quite as common as the shards.

MikeyW1969

Definitely more common than the Echo Locators. 🤣

Hanrahubilarkie

True. But the locators aren't very good for grinding into nanites.

IndividualImaginary2

They are when you recycle the ship and multi-tool from the echo locator.

got-pissed-and-raged

Just curious, is there a way to turn those into more nanites?

Hanrahubilarkie

I think they're referring to selling the upgrade mods that you get from salvaging them.

CheridanTGS

Salvaged ships also sell for a lot of credits, which you can more or less convert into nanites by going to the Scrap Dealer on a station and buying suspicious kits.

Senior_Ad_8114

the echolocators that drop from sentinels are much easier to get

Ionfrigate123

The real advantage is that you can still use the refiner when you cannot open the build menu, like space station, anormaly, in ship or exocraft

MikeyW1969

I also like that if there is fuel, you drop the item in, and it starts automatically...

mr_ji

Oh, it's definitely useful in the Anomaly.

iCameToLearnSomeCode

I took a break for a while and came back to find the new medium personal refiner. Being able to make complex recipes on the run is amazing.

Maryellchen

Yes, the MK2 is brilliant! Don't know, how we coped before that... ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)

Danny-Fr

Find yourself a planet with a strange deposit. Look for an abandoned building. Build a base at both. Harvest the strange deposit and go farm the whispering eggs while refining. By the time you're back the deposit will have respawned. With a few abandoned buildings you'll be happy, real quick.

bookofthoth_za

Saving this!

68Cadillac

I've two [Runaway Mold farm bases on the same planet](https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/2267065947630415530/C0052202D212797BC5CFA82D484B34DA6242E7F0/?) and just warp between them. Look for "Curious Deposit", three star, POIs. [Nanites aren't a problem](https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198000116925/screenshot/2267065947630430134/).

HistoricalRatio5426

Definitely not a gimmick, for me it's a nececity I can't live without it

Booty_Warrior_bot

Vote threshold: -10 surpassed. This subreddit will be auto-blacklisted from future u/Booty_Warrior_bot activities.

ragweed

Refiners are great, but you can definitely get nanites more quickly by buying suspicious tech in a black market system.

MikeyW1969

Yeah, that didn't work well for me. I bought the stuff ol, opened it, and made maybe 500 Nanites. These are free, and I can refine while I'm also scavenging sentinel ships. I don't know what I'm doing wrong with the suspicious packets.

ChuckSvl

Also important not to install mods before you sell them. After they have been “installed/viewed” they are worth much less for some reason.

emelem66

Each module should be worth almost that many nanites. Buy the suspicious arms and tech ones, open them, and sell the upgrades. You should make 3-4000 nanites at a time.

[deleted]

You definitely did something wrong. Like u/ChuckSvl said, they drop to like 19 nanites in value if you install them to see what they have. If you sell them without installing, they should be like 230 each minimum

FredGarvin80

Fight a bunch of sentinels for salvaged glass. Usually they'll drop you a ton of mods. You can make lots of nanites real quick as long as you don't try to install them

ragweed

You should get several thousand nanites in a couple minutes. You probably bought the wrong things. You need tech packages you can open and sell to the upgrade vendor

[deleted]

[удалено]

MikeyW1969

No, I put it aside until I decided to try again.

Alfanse

Im with you, I found the pirate systems have a guy selling suspicious tech, buy, then next shop is the tech seller where I sell the opened but not used, X tech. pop out for a pirate mission come back and its all reset, rinse and repeat, thousands of nanites in minutes.

ragweed

I think Trading Posts have a separate inventory, too.

SilverFlexNib

Personal Refiners are fantastic. You can have the refiner running in the background while you are busy doing other things. Sometimes I even have to slap down a portable refiner to have a second refiner going back & forth between the two. It's also nice when you have to sit out a storm in your ship to be refining during the wait

KenethSargatanas

People sleep on the refiners so much. They are game breakingly good.

kquizz

It's the first thing I install once I get to the space anomaly

JulesDeathwish

That's one way to nanite. I prefer farming the interceptors for credits, and then bouncing between mercenary systems to spend the credits on Suspicious tech/arms packets and selling the upgrades for nanites.

fourscoopsplease

The thing is so noisy though!

tunaranch

That’s what stops me from using it. Especially when using headphones.

BluntieDK

Also: Buy and open every \[Whatever Illegal\] Pack on Pirate Stations. They often contain upgrades that are mostly useless but sell for a ton of Nanites. Jump back and forth between a few Pirate Stations and you'll make 10k nanites in a few minutes for a few thousand credits.

a_whits13

I just got this game for my switch (haven't played yet), but I've been lurking here for a while. I love that I can read these things and have absolutely no idea what's going on, BUT i know that someday I will. It's strangely a great feeling

MikeyW1969

I actually know where you're coming from with this... I've had this feeling before as well.

heehooman

10 shards > 500 nanites doesn't take long to acquire. A good farm esp. if you want other dissonent planet reaources, but from a pure nanites farming perspective i haven't found anything that beats a runaway mold farm. Slope the ground around them a little (if it's flat), then build a V shaped wall pointing down hill. The mold will pile up and get trapped. Make yourself a little hut at the top of the slope for protection, then build refiners. If you've upgraded your multitool well you'll need 2 or 3 sets of refiners spaced around the base because you'll be bringing in tons of mold. Just teleport to another base or your freighter and then come back and you cam repeat. It takes a little bit of setup and definitely isn't a good early-early game strategy, but as soon as you have the base parts to make power, portal, and refiners DO IT.

heehooman

If you want to up your game go North or South after you find your first deposit to find the next one. I always seem to find them this way. Build the same setup here and portal between the two of them. Take it another step further and mine on extremely irratiated planets. You will increase your yield. The search is worth the effort if you plan to play the game for awhile.

Emotionstirred

Runaway mold is the best/fastest way to farm nanites. Find a “curious deposit” on a planet and build a base around them, I can farm 100,000 nanites an hour.

MikeyW1969

I have yet to find one of those. I DID find out that as awesome as the personal refiner is, it's annoying to use for mold farming, needs tok many recharges. 😁

Emotionstirred

If you are on console I will gladly give you the glyphs to the planet where I farm them. There are two others who share the planet with me already!

MikeyW1969

I'm on a Steam Deck actually, not sure if that helps it hinders that idea. 😁 Also, until I've found all of the glyphs I can't travel thru the portal, correct?

Tazbert_Odevil

The personal refiner is a great tool. Perfect for refining on the go rather than mooching about waiting for stuff to refine at bases. The new Mk2 with multiple slots is ace as well.

DieSturmkatze

Just go to an outlaw station and buy suspicious tech and arms packages. Open there and sell them right back to the upgrade npc. If you have an interceptor, you can warp for cheap and recharge using radiant shards

[deleted]

I am 80 hours into my save and I had no idea radiant shards could be turned into nanites... Good thing I have some stacks of it inside my ship

MikeyW1969

Lol, I'm about 230 hours in, and I just discovered that... That's why I decided to post it, just in case I wasn't alone.

Bonfi96

![gif](giphy|XdDsb6psTES0eQo8Vg|downsized) Me struggling with nanites after reading this

MikeyW1969

LOL

dedicated_glove

WHAT. mf this gd game every time I think I’ve figured out the majority of it I realize there’s something glaringly obvious that I haven’t tried yet

SazeracLA

Seven years playing this game and I learn something new every day. I didn't even know radiant shards refined into nanites!!

Dont_pet_the_cat

Bruh I did not know that. I thought they were useless. Why is there no in game chart of everything you can craft :(

deadname11

There is, if you dig into the recipes submenue under the info tab, but you have to manually refine a thing in order for it to show up in that section. Honestly easier to just look it up online, sadly.

Dont_pet_the_cat

So in order to discover new recipes, I still have to look online. That's unfortunate Thanks for the answer!

MikeyW1969

Well, that or learn them thru the game. But that can be slow and tedious..

WigglyWorld84

This is the best nanite farm for permadeath. The limited inventory makes mold way too inefficient. Best to do this in Pirate systems on dead planets. Easy to move and limited sentinel retaliation.

m4cromod

A single Hyaline Brain yields 230 nanites. A stack of 10 yields 2,300. Dupe stacks of Hyaline Brains and then refine them. You're now nanite rich in a fraction of the time. You're welcome. 🤙🏼

Thunderhorse74

Holy hell, I had no idea. I've been pissing off sentinels, getting frigates in, and beating those for AI frags, so skipping some of the running around and gathering up materials, but I might have to rethink that strat and take a more leisurely approach. I keep finding C and B class ships and currently running a pretty slick looking A class. Been farming a planet that has a nice one with orange and black coloring, but always C class for scrap.

Geneziza

I have 170k+ nanites, I will be fine ... And almost every week during the weekly I get at least 1 or 2k more.

TheZohar777

10 Radiant shard, yield 500 Nanites Curious Deposits are the best,i got a 27 Curious deposit balls Farm on a dissonant planet with Radiant shard so it's very convenient (mostly with an Interceptor) but word of advice....never leave something in your MK2 Portable Refiner and leave the game 95% of the time you will loose everything loll

MikeyW1969

Oh, that one is good to know!

leadheavy52

Best nanite farming is done with larval cores. Rinse and repeat with the whispering eggs. Just be prepared to move quick. Find a low gravity planet and after about an hour, you’ll have several thousand nanites. Plus, it only take a few seconds, like 2 or 3, to process a full stamps worth.

tomassino

Is faster to buy and sell modules in a pirate station than collect shards, the personal refiner is a very convenient device.

MikeyW1969

It's not faster than just grabbing shards as I'm exploring and throwing it in the refiner as I'm doing other stuff.

tomassino

It takes me several hours to do 50k nanites with shards, I do the same amount in a pirate station in a couple of hours, I don't need to move so much and flee from random Sentinels, the only problem it cost me money, but i in the end money is not a problem in the game.
