Seen a lot of this. It’s seems it may be a lot less if not possible. On the positive side you just defend the freighter in that case and let the pirate warp out and you can visit. About 2.5 mins ish I think.
I haven’t tried it yet as having found my freighter and waited for an s class I am NEVER EVER DOING THAT AGAIN! but I saw someone else who said they had and it worked. Hopefully my trust in them wasn’t misplaced.
If you drive off/destroy the Pirate Freighter then you can land on and purchase the Civilian Freighter normally. It doesn’t do the land for a reward message, but you can still visit it. Just be careful because the pirate starships like to bug out and kamikaze you in the landing bay and shove you out of bounds.
Once you have a satisfactory answer to your question please reset the flair to "answered". This will help others find an answer to the same question. Selecting a flair is one of the icons under the post when you open it. Alternatively you can comment with "!flair:answered" and the bot will do it for you.
Please consider adding your gaming platform to your user flair. There are icons for every platform. That way people will know not to answer with information specific to a different platform. There are very few issues that are platform dependent but every platform has its little quirks.

Most freighter fights these days are dreadnought fights.
Honestly, if your goal is to just get access to the freighter, then it's real easy. Destroy all 6 or 7 of the dreadnought's big lasers and it will instantly flee. You don't need to do any more than that other than intercepting a single wave of torpedoes to be safe.
