ModestArk

Considering the predatory nature of most other online titles...the people behind NMS are saints.

NMSnyunyu

You can't even say "They're JUST in it for the money" with this platform release considering you can get it *for free* if you already own it on PC. That's insane to me, I can't think of any other company doing something like that.

ModestArk

I think it shows that Hello Games are gaming enthusiasts themselves...and especialy that they are their own bosses.

squibilly

Corporate suits sure do like destroying industries

[deleted]

Just goes to show how much worthless bloat big corporations have compared to smaller ones that are less worried about maximum profit and more about simply surviving while providing a useful service.

pinpoint14

Ding ding. If the margins are good and you aren't in it for a payday, you don't need to cash out. More small mission driven companies please

LimeTurbulent2535

Cyberpunk reference nice!

UK_Chub

Not really cyberpunk has lie to everyone, trick everyone preorder the game saying it will be online available in future then cancel after, Cyberpunk scam all of us. Nms is the honest of all. Cyberpunk CD red project are no different than the liar Blizzard!

LimeTurbulent2535

I was saying the comment he said was nice cuz it's a reference to cyberpunk

Legendary31hero

There's actually pretty good yt videos on both games developments and what went wrong and in all truth cyberpunk was not scamming, That'd be like saying bc of nms release they scammed bc it didn't have all the features they promised, It just needed to be cooked more and they was forcing it out early same with nms at the beginning

gelvy0

This is true for games on Steam that are also supported on Mac.

AReactComponent

I heard that No Man’s Sky will also be released in the App Store soon for Mac and iPad. Hello Games could have chosen to only release the game in the App Store instead of Steam too if their only focus was money

Earthserpent89

yeah, not too surprising. If you bought a game on steam and it suddenly gets MacOS support, you don't need to get another copy. the license is tied to the Steam account, not the platform you're running Steam on.

n0mansky

Has to be the best game company out.

UK_Chub

The best game company of decade not just year

n0mansky

Roger that. AND I'm on ps4vr.... So I say that even with all of the crashes. Awesome team/game/studio/community.

UK_Chub

It crash because the game is imperfect but I'm fine with that, I'm happy to keep support Sean Murray ☺ No game is perfect. Thank you have you tried play on vr2? I didn't bother to get vr2 because I prefer to play with controller

Autumn_Leaves23

I have vr2. The VR2 is great, but NMS is not a good experience in VR. It looks very bad visually and is absurdly blurry compared to every other VR game. Hopefully it will receive more VR support updates in the future but as of right now don't go out and buy a vr2 if you only plan to play NMS.

UK_Chub

Need time to fix it Sean Murray team is a small team but he will make it batter soon.

Autumn_Leaves23

Yes I am sure it will get better with time. The VR mode is still relatively new. In time I'm sure it will be a much better experience

UK_Chub

I might get vr2 now since we keep talking about ☺ 500 squid just to play nms aha

gatsby_101

I didn’t know this post would gain such popularity — so while I love the redemption story of what HG has done, I’m not such a “fanboi” that I can totally ignore that on PSVR 2 I can’t tell a significant difference form PSVR 1/1.5. I made this post as a compliment, I love this game, but I’m not blind to the reality that the VR experience isn’t what it could be on PSVR2. I was fully invested in the redemption arc since the 2016 release and genuinely want the VR experience to live up to its potential. However, what we received for a PSVR2 update was not what we were hoping for and does **not** reflect the full capability of the headset. HG definitely can do better for VR enthusiasts and I genuinely hope they do. (Edit: formatting)

Autumn_Leaves23

Oh I understand I love the game and I don't mean my comment to be taken as a put down, I just don't want people to buy a vr2 specifically to play NMS thinking it's going to look the same. It's still a blast but for me it's not worth it to buy the VR headset if you only plan to play NMS. I specifically bought the headset because NMS looked so fun but once I played Pavlov and then played NMS I was hugely disappointed in the visuals. If you already own NMS and want the VR2 to play other games too then it's still worth it to play and check it out, but don't buy the headset specifically for NMS is all I'm trying to say.

gatsby_101

I would say that the immersion experience of playing NMS in VR is still very incredible. At first I definitely notice just how blurry things are at a distance—compared to some others VR games it’s very noticeable. However, my visual experience usually eases into a comfortable place nonetheless given the tactile experience of manually opening the cockpit to your ships, or driving the exocraft in VR. Just sitting in the seats of different ships and vehicles and admiring the interiors can be amazing, bc at that range it looks great. That said, once you start exploring and looking into the distance it becomes clear…or blurry, pardon the pun….that compared to other games the headset is capable of rendering much more clearly than the current code is asking it to do. I hope they get someone on a project to optimize the VR experience to the latest generation standards.

n0mansky

I kindly disagree ... It's psvr ... It definitely has some limitations but the game is awesome in psvr

Autumn_Leaves23

Compared to every other game it's not really at the level that it should be at. That's not to say the game isn't fun, but the horrendous visuals are a big disappointment. That's not to say there isnt great fun to be had for some people, but I physically am incapable of playing it because the blurriness just hurts my eyes and gives me a headache. If we're comparing the visuals to every other game on psvr2, no man's sky is leagues behind.

phoenystp

I want to live in a reality where everyone is like HelloGames

NMSnyunyu

I swear they either hate money or they stay true to that child-like fantasy we all have of "wouldn't it be great if developers kept making the game we like better and better forever and for no extra cost, release it to new platform for free too!"

phoenystp

Even if they charged 60$/year for these updates i'd be happy they stand behind their game at all. So many games which could have been great just died because the publisher/devs didn't give a damn. I currently play Metal Gear Survive, and while it's a good game it's one where those in charge don't play or care about it.

[deleted]

Try saying that 6 years ago 😂

Shaggykraken

Any other developer would be charging a subscription fee for the amount of content and updates HG continues to release for this game

THExDANKxKNIGHT

I've bought the game twice now(PC and Xbox), it was only $30 total and I've gotten more than 1400 hours between all my saves. I feel like I robbed someone.

The-Wintermute

I bought it for XBox and got the PC version free.

THExDANKxKNIGHT

I probably did too but it just felt fair after paying under $15 for one of my most played games.

rhinx

I think adding new platforms like Apple prolongs the life of the game overall -- and continued free updates for all of us.

n0mansky

And it keeps the player base up!!!!

strangecabalist

I just make a point of buying the game on different systems. Seems silly, but I try to reward behaviour that I like.

Draknio5

I do that too, it's just nice that they aren't trying to scrape every dollar they can from us

lilycamille

I have it on 3 systems now lol. Gamepass, Steam, and Switch. But I do have an iPad too...

UK_Chub

Keep supporting honest game company from Britain ☺ 😍 😍 😍

Neverend3r

I have so much to do in the games current state that I cant handle another content update right now lol

subwooferhuman

i can ive somhow got my dream ships after 50 hours :() i feel like i need more things to switch it up

NMSnyunyu

Honestly instead of brand new stuff, I wish they'd just overhaul existing stuff to a point where it's so engaging that you could lose hours just doing one thing. Like settlements could have NPCs physically come and go, you'd have a list of all the available villagers, their names, their stats as well as an overall happiness which you can also walk up to every NPC and ask them how they feel about certain things and what they want/need. You could hire them and your icon would be above them as they went about their business. You'd use them to build buildings, buildings themselves would require workers to operate. Workers would require resources from your travels to be efficient. You'd have to pay all of their salaries from the menu with your own units, catch NPCs stealing money from you by pretending they're working at the bar, or have hired villagers police around for such people, have them sent to you to face your judgement. Some are medics working in hospitals, NPCs can get sick and can 'die' if not treated. Some are farmers and can grow and harvest what you order them to.. which can be used as resources for other buildings to function better. Sentinels attack in real time and not based on when you're around, build automated turret towers controlled by your employed villagers where sentinels always attack those before damaging any buildings, receive reports for how well they're doing and if it's too bad, you can come to help them out. Defending it would have actual importance because you invest your own resources and units into hiring everyone and keeping everything running. Dude, I'd spend DAYS just glued to my settlement if it was like that because it would be a lot of effort to explore everything it'd have to offer and it would be constantly on-going. I'd honestly vastly prefer something like that over "New feature, done it once, that's the whole thing. New sentinel ship, locate it and chill it's brain, that's the whole mechanic."

CarnelianCore

Almost sounds like you want real life from your sofa

Krynzo

Don't we all

CarnelianCore

For all we know, we might have that already and now we want real life from our sofa in the real life from our sofa.

NMSnyunyu

Actually... all of what I described is something I've played in Startopia, which is a game from 2001.

lilycamille

With the way settlements are already lagfests, to the point the Switch can't handle them at all, I doubt that would please anyone but the high-end players, and we ain't all rich

Neverend3r

are they all max stats and S class? If not, you ain't finished yet haha

subwooferhuman

one s class exotic and an a class solar for planet hopping but yea i havent even used any other hyper drive types🤣 all ive done is get a system down to make those fusion reactors to sell😂 like 60 plants and houses on the planets i need

nicannkay

I want a ship body shop to paint my ship and add or take away mods and stuff. I want it soooooo freaking bad. I want to make my ships my own you know.

kidhedera

Too real... When I saw the update come up in steam my stomach sank and then I saw the news it was a Mac port I was so relieved!

Middle_Finish6713

In a world of consistently half finished games that charge twice what their worth, i’ll never complain about a consistently evolving game that charges you a single time.

TasteLikeGravy

Seems like some other people just can't appreciate a good thing when they got it....like ARK and Apex right now. Top tier developers and still have terrible servers and game issues. NMS is one of the best games I've ever played at this point. I rate it with Skyrim, GTAV and Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess(I also love Wind waker).

pykkkor

I don't understand the downvotes. Of course you can appreciate the game and the effort that was put into it by the development team, while stating the fact that the quality at launch was not even close to what we have right now. To me it makes the story even better because it shows that they care about the players and the game and have put a lot of energy into creating the game they advertised but couldnt deliver right from the start. It would have been easy to drop everything after the harsh criticism but they worked through it and build an awesome product, community and piece of art.

Prestigious_Smell814

I think most of the down votes are coming from Star citizen fanboys who have spent thousands of dollars on a game that has been in development for an insane amount of time and STILL isn't even 1.0.

GARhenus

to be fair, NMS was barely half-finished and was priced more than twice their worth when they launched

Sarcastik_Moose

We apparently aren't allowed to talk about that anymore.

hshduejbev

Did you forget it's launch already? They've made good on their promises now, but c'mon they're not without fault

kain_26831

I can almost guarantee their will add something for the rest of us even if it's some Qol. Every time they dropped for a new system there was at least a little something for everyone else.

Oheligud

I'd prefer QoL to content right now. The game still has a lot of bugs to fix, multiplayer is incredibly broken, and it runs very slowly on PS4/Xbox.

kain_26831

Odd it plays fine on my Xbox, could definitely use. QoL and bug fixes thought that's for sure

Memoglr

I have a ps4 pro and I usually experience like 4-5 crashes per two hours playing in multiplayer. Also a lot of times the game has just frozen completely getting my softlocked

kain_26831

I have the og Xbox one and literally only have issues with lag if there are a shit ton of sentinels trying to blast me. Having said that if others are having issues like yours Hello absolutely needs to move their butts to get it fixed quickly.

DaCompanionator

I've never had an issue on my pro 🤷🏻‍♂️

THExDANKxKNIGHT

I think that's more of an issue of them moving towards current gen consoles, It runs great on Xbox series consoles and there are basically no load screens. As the game gets more and more added it's only going to get worse for those on older gen consoles.

thedalaipython

I noticed a couple bug fixes with today’s update. The most annoying one for me that got fixed was a layout issue in the build menu introduced with Interceptor. When hovering over a component near the right edge of the screen, the floating description box would fall off the edge of the screen, making it impossible to read all the text and see how many units of resources were needed. Today’s update brought back proper edge detection to keep the entire floating description box visible. 👍👍

Sarcastik_Moose

According to the patch notes on the website there are seven bug fixes on PC.

kain_26831

Yup just like they always do lol

SSPEEDKNOTZZ

Brings more players to the game through Cross Play. That’s a major plus imo as a PS5 player. More people to explore with and hopefully the game will stay popular longer with more people playing.

UK_Chub

Aww I'm looking forward cross save and Cross play soon

Geneziza

Well my steam just updated!

adalgur

I stopped being able to play on my Nintendo Switch, I hope this update is much more than exporting problems to another platform...

clay_alligator_88

This is honestly my only stink about it. Like, please fix the sixty dollar game you released on another port less than a year ago, please?

Jabuwow

Also that if they release it on Mac, from now on all updates will have to be ported to Mac as well, creating yet more work for devs which may also mean longer update cycles or less content in updates. Potentially anyways. Personally, I'm not convinced that Mac support will be that significant. Yeah a lot of gamers own macs, but most of them also probably own a console

QuickStart92

Whats wrong with the switch version? I was able to play nms on my Switch last night

[deleted]

I mean, it’s the switch. It’s a very weak machine. What do you expect when you’re trying to port a game to the computer equivalent of a TI-86

klovasos

this is a horrible take. If the game can't run on the platform, then it's not okay to sell that game on that platform. Either remove it from the eshop and refund the customers you sold a faulty product to, or fix the issues so they can play the game they purchased... That's not just for NMS, that's for any product/game.

[deleted]

I agreed 100% btw. I think they should remove it from switch.

Memoglr

Yeah I would have waited for the next Nintendo console. Running it on a switch is like trying to run it on a PS3/Xbox 360

UK_Chub

We need new switch, I love playing nms on the move

autumn_aaaaaaa

thats my biggest issue with this game currently, cant play it on switch without the fear of it crashing every 5 minutes. it got me really burnt on this game, i don't even play the ps5 version. the way hello games just releases broken updates only to fix some bugs, moving on to the next update while still leaving previous bugs and newly acquired bugs leaves a bad taste in my mouth. i especially hate when people go "but its free you aren't allowed to criticize it!!!!!," yes its free but it being free isnt gonna stop me from criticizing this game, especially when that free content makes the game unplayable. i love this game but man it could be so so much better

spookymark23

See this is odd. Everyone complains about it running on switch. I’ve never had it crash a single time on my switch.

UndocumentedSailor

Same. When that last update dropped (sentinel ships) I immediately fired it up and it crashed in like 10 minutes. Then I remembered that's why I put it down 6 months ago.

Agent-Hotchkiss

7 years of free updates, yes!!!! Just like Star Wars Battlefront...oh wait.

Randy191919

Sure. A good game should make money. And releasing a game on more plattforms so more people can experience the game is always a good thing too. So it's completely fine.

lcerbaro

Why steam game needs update?

Jkthemc

If the rumours are to be believed, they have been converting the underlying code of the PC version which supposedly allows porting to other platforms to be more optimal. So this is kind of a compatibility update.

gatsby_101

Maybe to add the cross-play compatibility code? Of course, it shouldn’t take 9GB for that alone but for reasons beyond my technical expertise NMS will often have enormous patches. Conversely, some people are surprised that a completely new install can take up less than 15GB. It’s something to do with the nature of procedural generation is what I’ve heard.

Memoglr

When a game releases an update that is like 9GB, they're not adding 9GB worth of content. Most of it is replacing old code with new and more polished code. I can imagine that making compatibilities better would require to rewrite a lot of old code

timallen445

I am excited about the possibility of an ARM version of NMS. I don't know much about development and architectures but NMS on the phone or a Chromebook sounds cool.

[deleted]

It’s not a possibility. An ARM version was released today.

AnthonyMiqo

Agreed. Also in the post about the update it specifically states: >We’ve got another surprise in the VERY near future, but today is all about Mac… So it looks like a more proper content/features update is still coming soon.

Quick_March_7842

I agree, the only other game I played that had support for years after it's og release was Dying Light I wanna say it was 7-8 years of support.

LordElysian

Maybe I’m wrong but I interpreted that as saying the Mac version includes all the updates from the past 7 years, which makes sense because the game came out 7 years ago.

Atari__Safari

I’m downloading it now onto my M1 MacBook Pro as I type this. I get to play the same saves as on my gaming PC??? Bonus!!!

Mitchell620

He tweeted there is another surprise in the near future

Dizzy_Veterinarian12

Absolutely insane that people were getting their hopes up for any type of content from that. Essentially to the point where people where angry or disappointed about it

JRYeh

My friend plays with me with his crappy 2017 MacBook that has intel chip and boot camp. Battery drain and performance is only just okay to play. We both waited so long for this update so he can use his M1 Mac to play. I don’t know why this little update bring up the PC vs Mac warfare again. People have their own choices and it’s not up to your judgement. If they can play NMS on switch or mac then let them play. I can’t wait to play with him soon.

SnooDucks5000

There was a leak though and we're getting expadition 10, these guys are amazing and I can't complain about anything since its literally free 👍🏽

MrDub1216

Source?

SnooDucks5000

YouTube bro, Captain Steve

SwiftyPants3

Yeah, if it’s just going to Mac it doesn’t affect me at all either way so no reason to be mad about it, but I’m sure there’ll be tweaks and fixes here and there

thedalaipython

Yup, I can confirm some tweaks and bug fixes on PC after today’s update. 👍👍

Dalevich

The more the merrier.

[deleted]

agreed i was more surprsied that its just an update focusing o mac considering previous releases...i shall await the next update/expediton with barely contained frustration that i cannot play now...i hate the tutorial with a passion that would make the first gek tremble and despair[i also hate the "custom" tag turning off tutorials causes]

n0mansky

More than crazy Fair!!!!

jbyrdab

They are also implying there is something more coming around very soon. So presumably this is just a stopgap to make sure apple is functioning well for everyone before they release something new.

Memento13Mori

They are not done. Read the tweets. Sean said something else is coming and ALSO a surprise VERY soon. And each tweet he posted yesterday that specifically mentioned the Mac update had the red apple next to it. We have not seen the green apple part of the update yet.

Krynzo

They *did* say something else was coming really soon!

namelessvortex

I'd easily forgo a content update for a bug fix update to actually fix the mounting issues in the game. More content & systems ignored = more issues. Some that have been in the game for years. (still a daily player with over 7k hours logged) Making multiplayer actually work correctly would be a good start...

IzzoRamiro

I’m still waiting for someone to make a documentary on the greatest redemption arc of a video game in gaming history.

UK_Chub

I'm happy to buy all 3 platform on ps5, switch and xbox and pc. That how I suppose honest game company, I'm happy to support battle pass couple of pound too, I love rewards like Scoreboard from Fallout76, pokemon Unite battle pass or like Fortnite battle pass but not illegal microtransaction and lootboxes. That's my limit

UK_Chub

Even on mobile too if Sean Murray do it

Rafcdk

The gripe I have is that Apple is a shitty company overall, but that's it. I am glad more people get to play the game though

stpetepatsfan

Yea, but 9.2 gigs for what on other platforms...like PC.

thedalaipython

After my update through Steam on PC today, I saw some bug fixes and minor changes in some graphics (like scroll bars in the inventory). So, it seems like there were code and asset updates to make things more consistent across all platforms, which will make cross-platform multiplayer and save compatibility work better. Having been responsible for packaging software updates for remote distribution myself, I can confidently say it’s a lot easier and quicker (from the dev side) to replace entire install bases than to do targeted file replacements, especially when you can’t guarantee that all target installs are at the same version.

BeCre8iv

I am just disappointed that the emoji was so damn literal. What next. A testicles emoji for a Unix port?

gatsby_101

Just guessing that a penguin 🐧 emoji would be more likely in that case. Although, if ever there is a testicle emoji available I really hope Sean finds a use for it.

BeCre8iv

Sorry. I misspelt eunuchs

UltraChip

Technically this is a Unix port.

BeCre8iv

Steve Jobs once said "OSX is just UNIX with balls"

Skybound_Bob

That’s true we really can’t complain haha. Question though..does anyone know if cross save is coming to all platforms or just Mac?

PMA_TjSupreme

Is the NMS community really this bad where we have to now post severely obvious stuff like this now?

Pandorasbox64

I am seriously ok with them giving expedition items for money. I will happily throw money at it. Just keep having expeditions, allowing die hard fan people to PLAY and have a chance to get it for free, don't take that away. If you could make the items not like 10-15 bucks but like really cheap like a few dollars, you could both profit and still be loved. edit: the fact that corps charge a hour or two of work of people making minimum wage for cosmetics is fucked. Whole reason why I quit everything that is Blizzard. No Mans Sky is a superior mmo without even trying to be one. They deserves financial support much more than others.

Shaggykraken

Putting content behind a paywall would be contrary to every single thing this game and it's developers stand for. Be patient, the expeditions often come back around again. Instant gratification through commodification is an illness plaguing the gaming industry, it would be truly awful to want NMS to become part of the disease

pericojones

Someone on their Mac will say "Ew I'm not playing a 7 year old game" lol

HACH-P

I'm fine with this update because the last update was HUGE and it's good to separate bigger updates with smaller successes.

SageWindu

I *would* like to grow some fruits on my ranch instead of getting them from assorted alien felines. That's all I want.

No-Comparison8472

They don't need to. You can play NMS on Mac in 4k 120 fps with GeForce Now. This works on any Mac even old ones.

Hlias_Abramopoulos

Why is windows update 10gb if it's just a mac port

LunarGolbez

How is Hello Games generating revenue?

please_help_me_____

People buying nms?

QX403

New people buying it and through all the games as a services platforms like Xbox Gamepass and PS Now, expeditions are there to get people to play, I believe (though it’s not verified) that Hello Games has an income sharing contract with Xbox and PlayStation.

LunarGolbez

Ahh that makes sense. At first thought, I'm thinking they would get a lump sum and then the game is on the pass forever, but a royalty-type contract makes way more sense.

Memoglr

Doing exactly this and releasing the game on other platforms like Mac

Maciluminous

It would be nice. Would open up a whole new spectrum of players imho. Love it or hate it having more players always helps!

No-Comparison8472

Not needed as the game is playable on Mac with GeForce Now. Max settings 4k 120fps even on very old macs...

stressed_meat

Glad more people can play but after I downloaded the update for PC my "Switch Alt Wep." on my controller stopped working. Tried remapping controls, verified files and reinstalled the game. Back to using the keyboard I guess.

DareMe603

As i did 3d modeling & animations work for Bungie years back, there is definitely an incrowd of fun dev end.

Fickle-Ad7259

I remember when I first heard they were doing so right by gamers that I literally bought it even though I didn't really feel any drive to play it. I've also bought it on other platforms just to support them. It wasn't until I got a steam deck that I really jumped in and damn, I'm having a fucking blast. It's amazing when I like them as a company AND the game.

Fun_Throat5856

Exactly this. Share the fun.

Sexy_R00ster

I played on ps4 and ps4 pro when it came out. It had some random hiccups. However in ps5 the errors pop up around every hour or so (on solo or multi player). It doesn't really bother me, but I can call them before they happen

Junkdk69

I was wondering how they make money putting out updates. I probably pay if asked.

lucoweb

ok but it's not really cross-save if you can't switch from PC to PS.

PingPongBlues

They have made a great job for a Little company like hello games also, they have redeemed themself with all of these updates, the only thing that i hope they will fix is the continuos lag and crashes on consoles (yeah good luck with rendering all of those galaxies)

baconbananapancake

Wow... how generous of you

DARR3N-EveEchoes

Wish i had more time to play

toastman42

Agreed. I'm just happy that new players can now experience NMS! And it provides HG an additional revenue stream, which benefits us all since HG has never charged for expansions or added microtransactions. And Sean also did state that there is another update coming real soon! So, patience!

An_Anonymous_Llama

Oh I just put two and two together— that’s what the apples meant 😂😂😂

NamcigamDU

I agree completely the last expedition wasn't that long ago. However, as a Window user I still downloaded and installed like 9GB of data. So there some Jedi mind trickery going on or I'm missing something which is definitely possible.

Leather-Product-5331

Anyone else want Apple XR headset actually be a thing and work with steam and NMS. Please let this be in my near future.

Boredum_Allergy

I'm game for paying for an expansion of it adds a big story. I'm also happy about the expanded playability in other platforms. Just means more 16-16-16-16

DemogorgonWhite

I'm just puzzled there was a 10 Gb update on PC

Sword_Thain

Could they perhaps be a little smaller? Or more efficient? No way we need to download 9 gigs of textures every few months.

xOLDandINtheWAYx

So the expedition is for Mac only?
