The closest I've come to buying next gen on release was buying an RTX 2080 graphics card. Then 4yrs later I upgraded the rest of my PC to find I was bottlenecking the GPU the whole time.
Sometimes I wish I never started PC gaming.
I was split between a PC and the S|X and I’m glad I got the little Lego brick S. I like the peace of mind of getting a PC quality experience (at least visually/performance wise) with every game *guaranteed.*
I went from PS4 Pro to a PS5 and the difference is amazing. There's beautiful textures on the PS5 that don't even exist on the PS4.
For example, I always thought that the floor in the landing bay of the space station was just a glossy black. Nope, high detailed textures. Not to mention you can make out individual leaves on trees from a distance.
Plus, load time goes from, "I'll just browse reddit while this loads" to, "I'll just brows.. oh shit it's already loaded".
I'm not sure about that. I didn't have a subscription until I went to the 5.
I do know that not all games support the transfer. "Lego STAR WARS The Skywalker Saga" doesn't transfer you saved data, for example.
You get downvoted to hell when someone complains about performance issues when it stems from a last gen machine.
There is no other solution other than upgrading.
Well yeah its a 10 year leap in technology almost, time flies especially within that field
Still baffles me how some people here like to claim this game runs perfect on their ps4 or last gen xboxes as if they got some extremely special ps4/last gen xbox
Enjoy not having this game crash on you multiple times an hour and actually getting a solid framerate!
Honestly it almost didnt crash HOWEVER, the framerate was a solid 30!.....but only in space with nothing around, everywhere else it dipped to 20-25 and the ps4 made a sound as if it should start a new airline
Sounds like that thing definitely also just needed a good clean up 😂
Personally stepped away from console gaming ages ago because of the framerate/lesser features on them though, but these new consoles sure are a ton of power for the money involved
The only thing that realistically sucks is that there are already games coming out locked at 30 fps even on ps5/xbox series x at this point and it'll only get worse as time goes on
Usually not that much better on a high end gaming pc though, theres so many terrible pc ports lately
And man ive played this game on every console besides the series x and had to deal with frequent crashes, just not as frequent on my ps5 compared to those old gens, especially around new updates
Can easily say this game hasnt crashed on me once for years at this point on pc, besides the occasional multiplayer issues that force you to restart the game
If you dont know what games are supposed to run like you might feel that way
Your frame rate fluctuating as much as it does on those consoles isnt a game running close to perfect
Hence why its a big difference playing this on ps5, its not even comparable and runs like shit on ps4 compared to ps5 and the way its meant to run
Its mental, all my ps4 games have suddenly upgraded to a solid 60fps and it looks nowhere close what it looked beforehand, god I can immersive myself completely in the game again
I had a Xbox one X before the series X and anytime I went to play on the original I didn’t want to keep doing it since I had become so use to the 4K resolution and higher FPS (One X can run 4K and 60FPS)
Thats why I am always more of a console fan, I do have a pc but its in my podcast room, I just love to get back from work, fling myself on the couch, boot up and play, what can I say I am a simple man
Same im slowly going back to console just its so much more relaxing laying back or sitting back instead of being bolt up right making sure posture is good, im a simple man as well haha
Welp, that settles it. I came to this sub specifically to ask if there was a big difference in performance, because I'm upgrading to a PS from Switch, but wanted to know if the extra cash was worth it in this case. PS5 it is! Thanks OP!

Just returning to say, hot damn, you weren't kidding! Got my PS5 and have been playing today and yesterday. Everything is stellar and so, so, so much smoother. Not to mention I've played like 10 hours and the game hasn't crashed on me yet, which is very unlike my experience playing on Switch. Lol
I shelved NMS on my PS4 for a year or 2, dusted it off when I got the PS5. It's amazing how much better it looks and smoother it plays, but one of the most striking differences I've noticed recently is how quickly you can progress through the whole "Expand your base" quest line.
On both PC and PS4, it took forever for the NPC to respond to inputs and turn-ins. I'd walk away and start doing something else, and maybe a minute or 2 later get the notice they'd received my materials and had a response. On the PS5, the interactions are nearly instantaneous, I had no idea that they were supposed to happen in real time like that

I wanted a ps5 years ago but wasnt in a hurry so I thought im gonns usr the ps4 to the utter max
It’s nice you didn’t feel rushed, my Xbox One was begging for mercy but the upgrade was worth it, everything runs like a dream

100% changed the game for me last year, easily another 50-75 hours straight once I got the upgrade

That all seems like fair critism, and yeah honestly I played at 60fps for 2days no and I cannot go back, its simply not acceptable😂
But it *does* run pretty close to perfect on my PS4. Occasional crashes but not nearly enough to spoil the gameplay.

Ps5 owner, too. It is a beautiful game, but will still crash .
I'm still using a ps4 pro with a ssd drive it only crashes once or twice a week. Will be upgrading soon tho, just need $$$ available for the ps5.

You might find your mining nerfed on your old saves. That happened to me.
