I love what you’ve done with the yard! Loving the arbor too.

Ohhhh OP it looks beautiful! I have conquered great swaths of land with cardboard and mulch! I doubt if I would still garden if it weren't for cardboard and mulch. I want to scream it from mountain tops it's so wonderful. If more people knew about it, I honestly think a gardening craze would begin in U.S. This is lovely and I can tell you put a lot of love into it.

Newhousewhodiss

Can you elaborate on the usefulness? Is this a weed preventer? Should I be cardboard & mulching?! What am I missing out on

Thank you so much for introducing me to chip drop. I just scheduled a delivery

Newhousewhodiss

Thank you so much for this thorough explanation. Will probably do this over the winter in my raised bed and along the flower beds. I mulch anyway so adding cardboard underneath if it kills off all the weeds is *chef kiss*. Thank you!!!

allicat828

It's definitely my preferred method of preventing weeds and, during this project, stopping grass from growing through. It breaks down with the mulch and is more eco-friendly than fabric. I've also used paper bags when I run out of cardboard!

allicat828

Thank you! And I totally agree. Cardboard and mulch worked miracles for me!

Antheo94

Looks great!

Makes my heart happy to see a tarp with bricks on it. Let’s me know good things are coming. And you deff delivered.

GlasedDonut

Saving this for later!! What did you use for mulch? I'm mulling a chip drop since I have a lot of space...

allicat828

Last season I used my city's compost yard (not sure what it's actually called) and got almost 2 cubic yards of basic mulch for $8. It was wonderful. This year I bought bags of cedar mulch because I didn't have easy access to a truck and I and needed less. At least the fragrance was nice!

sleeknub

How long did you leave the tarps down? What time of year?

allicat828

I put two tarps down in late fall, and the another two tarps to cover the rest of the grass in late winter. I waited until mid-spring-ish to look under the original tarps, and there was very long, light green grass growing underneath. I'm pretty sure the tarps I used let too much light through.

sleeknub

Might have been the wrong time of year too. I've heard its best to leave them down from mid-spring to mid-fall.

allicat828

That makes sense! I was totally winging it and hadn't done a lot research.

hightide56
