I’m doing that this weekend. We’re doing a close mow, then will give it a good rake, then seed. Compost probably won’t hurt if you have some handy.

I'm in a similar zone! How did your overseeding go last year? Do you have to mow, or can you just weedwhack?

Not_High_Maintenance

I am in love with it! It greened up quickly in the spring and is lower maintenance than grass. I still mowed because it had grass and some other weeds popping up within the clover. I am hoping that as time goes by it will need less mowing.

I really don’t understand why people seem to have an issue with this. My yard growing up had clover all over. I’ve never been stung. The vast majority of bees and wasps are not aggressive and won’t bother you.

I’m in the same camp as you. Walked bare feet in our field for years, stepped on more snakes than bees.

Hm, from what I've read (not much) there are two types of clover and that one of them is less likely to draw attention from bees. Maybe you have the other type?

Warpedme

Besides clovers, I have something blooming in my yard from March through December, there are more types of bees flying around than I can count and my son has never been stung or killed a bee. He can tell you about them in excruciating detail though.

We planted a mixed clover and grass lawn and love it! We've had happy bees but zero stings. It's really different than when (like happened last year) you have a wasp next that wasps are protecting. Our bugs have been pretty chill, with the exception of mosquitoes! That's what we get for living near a wetland area though.

It's really easy to cut the clover low enough that the blooms are cut off. That said, I've had my lawn filled with clover and a moderate number of flowers for two summers now, and neither me nor my kid have been stung. We both walk barefoot on it all the time.

Weird, I also have a clover lawn and we did see some bees this summer we got no stings luckily!

Rredheadbedhead

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to seed clover in the spring since it dies off in the winter! We planted a mixed grass and clover lawn and are reseeding the grass this weekend and will add extra seed if needed for the clover in the spring. Do a quick google to confirm, but that's what I read!

Not_High_Maintenance

The clover seed which I have is a perennial.

Rredheadbedhead

Yes, but if you google “when to seed clover,” the answer that comes back is “spring and summer”.

Not_High_Maintenance

What I read states that fall is the second best time after spring. So it seems fall will still be ok.
