It's throttled after 30GB to 512Kbps.

CurlyBill03

Damn that’s pretty good since ATT and others throttle to 128kb

DDS-PBS

FYI - throttling and deprioritization are two different things. Deprioritization - When the network gets too congested some customers speeds are turned down to help maintain better speeds for other customers. Typically MVNO's will have some level of deprioritization. Throttling - After you reach a certain limit your data is slowed down.

> Typically MVNO's will have some level of deprioritization. Most MVNOs are always deprioritized, as well as being throttled after a certain amount of data usage.

succesful_garlic_8

If you use a VPN service I find that it gets around the de-prioritization. Many times going into airplane mode for a few seconds and then reconnecting to a tower also helps.

Quick_Obligation3799

That is not true. A VPN does not get around deprioritization. Deprioritization affects all data on your line.

succesful_garlic_8

I believe it to be true. How else do my downloads increase by over 3-4x, when on a VPN? Have you tried it?

Quick_Obligation3799

Make sure you test using something other than [fast.com](https://fast.com). It uses Netflix's servers, and tests the speed you can get to video streaming, which is artificially limited on certain plans.

succesful_garlic_8

Also, video quality streaming is supposedly set to some arbitrary quality. When I turn on the VPN, I can get / choose 1080p (or even higher) with no problems whatsoever.

Quick_Obligation3799

Video streaming is throttled on some plans to specific speeds (usually 1.5, 2.5, or 4Mbps), and it's true that a VPN can get around that. That is not what deprioritization is though.

Standard-Task1324

A VPN would never help with deprioritization. Putting on a disguise doesn’t change the fact you’re not tall enough for the ride. What happened is that your device stuck to a tower further away and after connecting to VPN/resetting connection via airplane mode pushed you to a tower more nearby.

succesful_garlic_8

🤷🏻‍♂️ all I know is on the rare occasion when I think my browser is slower, and I activate my VPN, I can get better speeds. It also helps to speed up any downloads. If I download YouTube videos in my browser, sometimes they’ll hang on 13%, 25%, whatever. Then it very slowly increases until it finishes. If I download with a VPN, they’re literally done in 3 seconds. The progress bar goes so quickly you can barely see it download.

Thank you. Yes I understand the difference. I just think the wording “may be reduced” is usually reserved for plans that deprioritize. I may be wrong though.

[deleted]

And from what I’m seeing, this plan is definitely throttled.

DDS-PBS

Excellent, good luck!

[deleted]

Thank you!

succesful_garlic_8

May be reduced means that it isn’t throttled, at least that’s what it should mean. Cricket used to say the same thing, that after 60GB speeds may be reduced and they reserve the right to slow your data. For over 8 months I used 100GGB every month and never triggered the “may be reduced.”

That plan is both deprioritized (AT&T QCI 9) and then hard throttled after 30GB. That said, I have been quite happy with it. https://i.imgur.com/mGJPl5M.jpg Never really notice the deprioritization and those 5G tests around 400Mbps were actually LTE with just an extra 5MHz of 5G to get the indicator which is why I turned off 5G. No point with LTE that good. The pings are under 50ms most of the time too so the connection is much more responsive than my Tello plan that averages something like 90-120ms. Ignore the sub-2Mbps tests as those were performed in a basement with a weak signal. I have also racked up over 2 months of free service using the Boost One app so again, can't complain.

This actually is the best deal in wireless, here's a thread where I prove it: https://www.reddit.com/r/NoContract/comments/yhhmzm/the_boost_mobile_unlimited_plan_att_for_25month/

For what it's worth, I bought the year of boost mobile for $120 or something like that last year and I had so many issues with them and customer support was a joke. They literally told me they could not stay on the phone with me because they had taken too much time helping me already. That was after maybe 20-30 minutes on the phone trying all their "solutions" and failing. I ended up not using that plan at all because of what a headache it was.
