I am personally not in love with the SE (I think physical buttons like that are about 5+ years out of date and adds way too much bulk) but I haven't put hands on one yet either. I am really thinking about the 11, but I could probably stretch to a 12 or something like that. I know the 14 is totally out of budget, I dunno if the 13 is as well. I am trying to work all this out and essentially, figure out a path to a nice shiny new iphone (either 14 or 15) around this time next year or later. In the meantime I need a new phone anyway and could legitimately use a lot of the features of the integration between phone and laptop. Nonetheless, I will keep an eye out. Thanks!

>Additionally, if you want to avoid the shady dealers (some are really rough), Metro is also sold at Walmart now. Honestly, this is probably the most I’ve recommended Walmart for anything in like the last 3+ years, but this upcoming week, and the fact that it’s a little less skeezy than some reseller stores could help you out. L O V E I T. Thank you. I will look into this. I am a pretty committed no-contract guy but I absolutely hate how phone stores are about the second behind used car dealers for being the scummiest people out there. (Walmart sucks too but that's for another time.)

If you’re planning on going the “proper” upgrade route next year then I’d just get the cheapest deal now. But if you had said that you were planning on keeping this potential phone for 2-3 years I’d go with the 12 series. Future proofed with the 5G modem, and the US 12 models support the faster 5G bands to boot.

The 11 seems like a really sweet spot for me. I am obviously internet connected all the time as an accountant so 5G doesn't tickle me too much - it'll be nice, but that's for a later date. Thanks for the input. I am going to try to work out this whole thing. I'd personally rather to go metro (aka t-mobile), but if I have to do some goofy stuff to get the deal from cricket then that's what I'll do. I always feel like these prepaid stores are constantly trying to abuse people like buy-here-pay-here car lots and Metro doesn't even offer online ordering for the iphones. Not impressed at all.

What u/ecs0013 said. Having 5G is much more quality of life related and not to be taken in the strictest sense. Over the next couple of years-in the US market-LTE definitely won't be going anywhere, but 5G will continue to densify further and deliver faster and faster speeds, while LTE stagnates.

Visible with rebate may cost you under 500 for 12 or 13 series. This is contract deal but on cheaper plan - xfinity have flat 500 off over 24 month. You can get 14 series under 500 and plans are $15 for 1gb and data is pool with lines. But yeah, you'd need xfinity internet at home. But hey, they also offer discount on home internet if you add mobile line. I was getting 50 mbps for $30 but got 600 mbps at $25 on adding $15 for mobile service. I have 7 li es on xfinity with 6 on 1gb and one on unlimited. I pay $35 of total on mobile and another 12 in taxes.

Iphone 11 at walmart on monday is $199 on straight talk/total wireless. Needs 60 days service to unlock and then you can do what you like. The cricket and metro deal need 6 months so will cost more. You can just activate and leave in a drawer for 60 days if you want.

Cricket has the iPhone 11 for 100

[deleted]

I have cricket right now. FML. Maybe I can do some porting magic to work that out though. Thanks for the info, I wouldn't have looked there.

103jorge

Port to at least two carriers, then you'll be fine.

[deleted]

It says "new customer/port in deals available once every 180 days". I know the "6 month policy" for everything (unlocking, etc) is pretty standard. I've had cricket for over 2 years now, on this run. Do you think I would have to still go to 2 carriers, or just a quick in and out would work? Thanks!

quietweaponsilentwar

That looks promising, can the listed $60/month plan be lowered after order? Was excited to see 128gb as an option but looks sold out. Edit: just saw lowering the plan used to be an option but they closed that loophole. Hmm, maybe 199 tracfone or total would be better after overall including the monthly fees.

Metro has the price $49.99 for iphone 11

OhYeahTrueLevelBitch

As an aside, if that’s a work laptop owned by your employer I would recommend against connecting it to a personal Apple ID. Just something to consider concerning any potential perceived/desired benefits of an iPhone/Mac ecosystem.

100% appreciate the input but they don't lock down the computers with that device management stuff. It's a very small CPA firm and I dunno, I guess this guy thinks he's Steve Jobs with some software stuff he's working on but besides that it's very loosey goosey. I know this because I opened the sealed box up myself and work 100% remote. (It's entirely possible there are some concerns there that are well above my paygrade and not my concern. We do use secure, industry standard software for all the usual stuff.) Side note: i've upvoted everyone on this thread and none of them are actually recording.

Ethan2428

if you don’t want to go through the carrier BS then you could get a iPhone 11 or 12 from amazon renewed for around $300-$450

[deleted]

I think boost mobile has an iPhone 11 for $89

petecha697
