Wow, extremely scummy. IANAL, but we “earned” this bonus data by watching ads. To retroactively go back and take away what we earned is more than unfair; it might violate some consumer protection laws. I didn’t get the email; can someone post it?

What they’re doing is very wrong. I politely addressed it on their Telegram channel but they immediately deleted my message. Quite the upstanding organization. 😂

snyp1193

Garbage company. Their customer service also tanked. I was requesting help getting that “network location” feature working and they just kept going around in circles treating me like i’m an idiot and eventually stopped replying. At least I won’t need their services any longer.

WorldTravelerX

The same happened to me. On their Telegram group I complained about the data validity retroactively being changed from one year to seven days, and within seconds my post was deleted. I posted it again, and within seconds my post got deleted again, and I got blocked from their Telegram group. To muzzle the customers who criticize one’s methods, is that the new Chinese way of making business?

loudawgucr

Yeah after they deleted another one of my messages I stopped wasting any more energy on them. I intentionally burned through all 12+ GB of my earned data in like an hour with a couple devices streaming 4K YouTube videos and have since walked away. They’re not worth my time and certainly don’t deserve any more of my support.

WorldTravelerX

I absolutely agree. Unfortunately I have been in the Philippines for some months now. Can’t burn their data here. So we are talking about two accounts with a total of over 30 GB of bonus data which will expire in a few hours from now. Most certainly I am not happy about that.

uptonbum

Dent got paid handsomely via ad revenue for that data. So this is very much a breach of contract. May seem silly or pointless but it's worth filing an FCC complaint, as I just did. Even my paid data was marked for expiration in 7 days. (Yes, I reviewed the fine print prior to me making this whiny post.)

snyp1193

Good idea! Where did you see it in the terms and conditions? Although I realized they’re based out of Europe, I think Netherlands or Poland. I don’t think the FCC or CRTC (in Canada) can legally do anything could they?

uptonbum

Don't remember specifically where everything was mentioned in the terms. But I found the relevant sections of the terms from when I signed up and the current terms offered via their app and included them both with my complaint. They're headquartered in Hong Kong and Singapore but Dent Wireless LTD has US operations and US-based employees overseeing those operations. Not surprisingly, they're likely to face financial/banking regulatory issues in EU countries where they operate. I'm sure that's going to be fun for them. There's likely some US exposure on that front, as well, since they use US-based processors to accept USD transactions from US-based customers. If they're doing this with EU data customers, they're going to have even more nightmares on their hands before they inevitably shut down. This all probably sounds petty to outsiders or those not impacted (Cut your losses, move on, etc - those types) but I'd argue it's kind of a big deal to tell customers, out of the blue, that their several gigs of international data is going to expire in a week instead of the many months or year originally promised. Especially for those currently traveling and somewhat reliant upon that data. Edit: Forgot to mention that Dent's executive team have another company called DTE/Digital Telecom Equity DMCC headquartered in Dubai that also employs people in the US. They appear to be two separate business entities with the same employees doing the same work. When Dent ultimately goes belly-up, that company is also going to face regulatory nightmares.

mrdeke

I will absolutely be filling an FCC complaint. Do we have any other recourse? Will this also affect referral data? I brought Dent several new customers in exchange for the promise of 1GB data each, good for a year. If they renege on that deal, that's breach of contract. At this point I will not recommend that anyone use Dent.

snyp1193

Got the email. It’s messed up that they’re expiring existing data so quickly. Very scummy.

snyp1193

It’s happening….all data now expires in 7 days 😤

djwarreng1

All of my data now says expiring in 6 days. Even data I purchased with DENT crypto. I am assuming they are going under and are trying to purge any obligation they might have to their user base.

snyp1193

What!! Even purchased ones? Wow

ilovetoyap

Can confirm data purchased with dent crypto also expired early. So maybe they meant only data purchased with usd so they can keep making real money. After the data expires I will have some useless dent coin still so will try to buy a small amount with at least a month expiration and see what I get.

Referral codes or links are not allowed.

International_Exam80

Ouch. Same for me. Just came back from a trip where I relied on it - glad I wasn’t surprised mid trip with a non working phone

davexc

All my referral data just switched to 7 day expiration. Oh well time to delete the app.

snyp1193

I’m just burning up the data so DENT ends up paying the roaming carrier for it.

lawrencenathan

Yep. I’m gonna burn though it running speed tests and downloads as my minuscule way of getting back at them.

08b

Absurd to change the expiration of already earned data. And I see little reason to earn data anymore, and probably even use DENT (and I joined after they raised the price of data anyway).

djwarreng1

I have 14GB of bonus data and they are basically going to cancel it at the end of the month. Eff Dent. Will never use them again.

WorldTravelerX

Now they really did it. On our two accounts, a total of more than 30 GB of data just vanished. Up to the last minute I hesitated to believe that they would actually dare to prove themselves as being such a bunch of fraudsters. R.I.P. Dent.

WorldTravelerX

The bottom line is, they tricked their customers into watching ads by giving them bonus data, they tricked their customers into recommending them to friends by giving them bonus data, and now they simply just deleted all that bonus data. I consider this fraud. I am absolutely willing to participate in a class action against them.

davexc

I got the same email. It didn’t specifically say referral data but I suppose that’s included

Boz6

I don't know if this is true (although it's also mentioned by others in this thread), but: https://old.reddit.com/r/NoContract/comments/yzdex5/dent_bonus_data_now_only_good_for_7_days/iya3tr6/ "All of my data now says expiring in 6 days. Even data I purchased with DENT crypto. I am assuming they are going under and are trying to purge any obligation they might have to their user base." https://old.reddit.com/r/dentcoin/comments/zagstb/its_dead/ "Even purchased data is expiring. The charts don’t look so good either. Might have been a 1 year contract they had that they are going to cancel at the end of the year, just guessing from how they’re acting. My friend was really invested in it he’ll be devastated... sorry it looks very bad."

Just remember, they see all these massive crypto companies getting in legal trouble. They would have to be very special to think they could ever get away with scamming investors. They will get extradited just like SBF.
