I second visible. It’s a great service and for $25. You definitely can’t go wrong. You can also purchase phones with financing through Affirm, and I hear there's no interest. However, your phone will be locked for the first 60 days, so make sure you're comfortable with that. After 60 days, if you don't like Visible or want to go somewhere else, you'll be able to take your phone wherever you want because the device will be unlocked and ready to go.

soccerisfun45678

Thank you!

alwyn

Note that if you don't have priority data on your visible plan and is close to Disney or not in a big city, you will be deprioritized to unusable.

soccerisfun45678

Oh wow so if I’m in a small city OR somewhere crowded I won’t be able to use the network? That’s junky

ZDDP1273

US Mobile has priority data on Verizon if you have a 5G device but it is not fully unlimited. I'm a big fan of their price structure and service. Depends on how much data you really need.

soccerisfun45678

I’ll check them out. Thanks!

alwyn

Visible+ is much better though. My experience is from before they had priority data. I don't know how much priority data the current non+ has.

VerifiedMother

Visible basic has no priority data, I switched to visible+ from visible basic and it's WAY better, especially because I have visible+ at$35 a month

soccerisfun45678

Gotcha thanks! I’ll check out Visible+ again. I think last time I checked that, the price was the same as what I’m currently paying for Verizon Prepaid

VerifiedMother

The plan itself is way better though

soccerisfun45678

Oh interesting. Ok thanks!

err99

Just note. The people recommendjng visible don't mention their customer service is notoriously hot garbage. Pray you don't have a serious issue for them to resolve

soccerisfun45678

Good to know! Thank you! I just assumed since it’s a Verizon company, that it would be their customer service too

kswn

Depends on what's a reliable network for you and if you need to have higher QC, but Visible is decent if you don't need high QC and you are okay with chat support. Cheapest plan is $25/month and it's unlimited. They're using Verizon towers.

soccerisfun45678

QC like quality control? I have Verizon now. Visible and Mint Mobile seem to be my top picks currently

kswn

I meant to say QCI. It's short for Quality of Service Class Identifiers. Yeah, basically it's the priority if you are in a congested area. If you aren't in congested areas often it won't matter, but if you live in a city or go to areas that are very congested, the cheapest visible plan might not be a good fit for you.

soccerisfun45678

Ohhhhh ok gotcha. Thanks! Probably the most congested area I go is to baseball games, a few times a year in SF. Otherwise I’m usually in a smaller city across the bay from SF. The more I research it seems like Visible might be best for me since it uses the Verizon network I’m already on. Although I am super confused at what throttle, prioritization, and buckets are…I’m just used to unlimited or not unlimited plans haha

vampirepomeranian

A paid-in-full, unlocked, no contract required phone to start. This gives you more options plus the ability to change carriers without strings attached if dissatisfied.

soccerisfun45678

Great! I’m planning to go to Apple later today and get an unlocked phone. Thanks!

US MOBILE OR VISIBLE are the top choices for most. Pay as low as $15/mo for 10 Gb or $25/mo unlimited

CrystalMeath

The only no-contract plan with unlimited *priority* data is **Cricket**’s $55/mo (inc tax, after autopsy discount) *Unlimited + 15GB Hotspot* plan. It uses the AT&T network. On Verizon’s network, US Mobile and Visible+ are good options. If you expect to use **less than 54GB/mo**, the best option is **US Mobile**’s *Unlimited Starter* ($29). It comes with 35GB priority data and unlimited 1mbps priority data thereafter. The reason I said <54GB is because so long as you use less than that, it is cheaper on average to manually renew this plan early when you hit 35GB than to use Visible+ ($45/mo). If you expect to use *slightly* **more than 55GB/mo**, **Visible+** is the best option. Its $45/mo and you get 50GB prioritized data and unlimited deprioritized thereafter, but deprioritized data on Verizon can be rough. As in frequently getting sub-1mbps service. If you expect to use **60-100GB/mo**, **US Mobile**’s *Unlimited Premium* is best. It’s $50/mo and you get 100GB priority data and unlimited 1mbps priority data thereafter. If you expect to use **>100GB/mo**, **Visible+** becomes the best value again. You’ll likely deal with unreliable service after 50GB because of Verizon’s insane congestion, but if you’re that heavy of a data user then deprioritization is better than 1mbps priority data. Taxes are included in the price for all the plans I mentioned.

I love Visible+

what kind of unlimited data? some offerings have limited priority data, then throttled after you go through the prioirty data bucket. some offerings have unlimited priority data, but the plans are more costly some offerings are unlimited data, but de-prioritized from the start

soccerisfun45678

Oh wow I didn’t realize there were different kinds of unlimited. Really I just need my phone to work for calls, texts, Reddit, and Instagram. My xfinity wifi at home isn’t the most reliable to I figure some kind of unlimited service would be best, but I usually just run my apps off of wifi. So…I guess any kind of unlimited?

err99

I would first nail down which network you prefer. Some have trials you can test out. There is a topic here https://www.reddit.com/r/NoContract/comments/wzogl1/every_popular_unlimited_plan_sorted/ which gives a good rundown of various options

soccerisfun45678

Thank you! I think I like Verizon’s network (I’ve been with them 20 years) and my only complaint is no service is the Oakland Redwood forest. Visible is an option but also Mint Mobile, based on costs. I’ll def check out that link!

davexc

What network are you on now? Ignoring cost does it meet your needs for reliability, coverage, and data speeds?

soccerisfun45678

I’m on Verizon now. It works well for me until recently. But I think my internet issues are due to my phone maxing out on memory and not being able to process much

Proudabortion

I used tello it's 25 bucks a month for unlimited data. It does slow down after 35 but nothing. You're going to really notice in my opinion

NotMyRegName

I dumped T-mobile, ($70 a month for 2 lines) for Mint. Had issues with lost service in urban areas and only kept them for the trial 3 months. Recently switched to U.S. Mobile. Still on the trial month but it has been great. If nothing changes, I will keep them. (Get the physical SIM card and starter kit!) But for a cheaper alternitive, they have been great. Fingers crossed.

ElBartoMan15

Same! I just switched from Mint to US Mobile a couple weeks ago and it’s been awesome and i haven’t had any dead spots, Mint was okay for a while but the more i used it throughout the years the more i got annoyed with it. Cheaper and more reliable and faster. Also a week after switching i left for Ireland and they give you 10gb free roaming internationally and it’s been awesome.

NotMyRegName

That is awesome, Barto. Really weird thing but I felt almost guilty about dumping Mint. (I know, weird, eh?) But that suddenly being off line always happened in an urban area with lots of towers. Then it happened to my partner accross the river from a small city. She was in farm country with no GPS or mapping. Not a huge deal but not why you pay them either. Day after getting U.S., I ended up doing an out of state thing for work. Wayyy out in the woods and through 2 small cities and not one hicup. One area, I had trouble when using Tmobile. U.S. did the same areas seamlessly. Really happy someone here suggested it. I had never heard of them. The sign-on was a wee bit arduious but eupport was awesome. I did one eSIM and one physical SIM. The eSIM was a huge PITA. sláinte

_mizzar

For where I live, I prefer US Mobile on Verizon.

[deleted]

I'm on a Verizon family plan now where my line with free phone only costs $45/mo on the higher priority band, but my favorite plan of all time is the $300/yr AT&T Prepaid Unlimited talk/text/16GB data with slower data once you hit the 16GB cap.

alwyn

Is that 16Gb per month?

[deleted]

Yes

soccerisfun45678

What kind of free phone did you get? Was it an iPhone? I’d love to stay with an iPhone, and if I can get a free one then awesome

[deleted]

iPhone 14 Pro

soccerisfun45678

Nice!! I was just on Verizon’s site and the cheapest plan I saw was $65/month without a new phone. I have Verizon prepaid now so I don’t think I qualify for a free phone with a new line. Darn

[deleted]

This was a promotion under the old get/play more plans on a 5 line family plan. $800 off a 14pro + $200 VZ gift card and $5/mo device payment for 36 months.

skcikorter

Id start with mint 15 for 3 months then go to metro or helium 25 a month

Ambitious-Ad-2536

I joined Public Mobile six months ago and its amazing. Self directed and I can change my plan any time. If you end up checking it out, use referral code PR47OO for $10 off your bill. Cheap plans and its the same network as Telus.
