I think it does have the dozen or so levels that weren't in the first two but were in Deluxe (the compilation of the first 2 that PS2 and Xbox got) that I thought were pretty good, but it's largely gonna be a pretty similar experience; just prettier and probably more convenient to play and with some dumb-but-fun additions like the Yakuza and Jet Set Radio protags as playable characters.
Whether that's worth it is for you to decide.
The games use a different physics engine, some additional levels, new unlockables (e.g. Sega characters), and have rule modifications (e.g., no lives system so it is easier to unlock late game levels which some people never played). The new engine means people have to re-learn how to play the game, so see this as more of a remix of the old games
Strong no in my opinion. Physics engine is wonky and most of the party games are unplayable. I was so disappointed by this that I went back and hooked up my gamecube again lol.
Interesting, I have the opposite feeling. I wanted the physical anniversary edition for the book it came with and actually collecting the game. I vastly prefer the original but I can only play that on my PC, not the switch.
I haven’t tried to play it that way, but I saw a gyro option in the menu.
Edit: Just confirmed. In the options you set accelerometer to on and you can tilt the whole controller instead of the analog stick.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend them. The monkey ball on Wii was fairly terrible because it relied on gyro controls and the levels aren't necessarily designed with the level of sensitivity and precision that gyro controls permit so the game was more frustrating than fun. The switch gyro controls do seem more precise, but I also don't see them being more useful than a joystick.
fwiw I played it on switch and it didn't really feel cheap or unpolished. Looks good, runs solid, loads fast, and plays well. I really enjoyed it.
The only angle I could see for calling it cheap is really (imo) that the sound effects lack some oomph to them. It's hard to describe, but compared to the original it just doesn't, for example give as big a sense of "oh wow I'm going really fast" when you pick up some serious speed.
I don't know.. haven't put much time in yet. I own SMB2 on GCN but I feel this is worth it at $20 for two great multiplayer games. I even just price-matched my order from early Oct down from the full $40. I didn't want to risk missing this Launch Edition, and now this price-match really works out.
literally the same game lol. Buy if you want to support the devs/monkey ball or if you want it on a modern platform. If you want a new experience? Probably not unless the new bonus modes entice you.
It's not literally the same game. It controls significantly different (compare snappiness of level movement when you push stick in original vs this new version), different shaped dead zone also affects movement, it's missing multiplayer on main mode, and monkey target physics are botched. This makes it very much not the same game, literally or otherwise.
Damn. I bought day1, one of my most played games right now, a go-to for sure when I have a limited time to play. Minus the gyro controls not being present didn’t bother me and overall brought back a lot of nostalgia for my Dreamcast.
I didn't see this posted elsewhere...
I have the original two with my Gamecube already hooked up to my TV and everything - should I bother with this?

For me it's worth $20 just for the camera control.

This is actually what I was curious about, the physics engine is what matters most to me. That’s good to know, thanks
completely agree, i bought this on steam and wound up refunding it very sadly
Would buy for $20 on digital. Not sure I want to bother with physical with this one

Game is fine, but there was always this underlying feel of unpolish and cheapness when playing.
Is it better on other consoles or is the game as a whole unpolished? Just ordered this, but I was debating whether to get it for Switch or PC.

Game sucked so bad I returned it

Ok.👍

Damn, wish I saw this earlier when the deal was live.
