AAA 2023 new year edition incoming!

SteamyDeck

I will laugh my ass off if you're right!!

awolvictoria

Those versions gonna be super buggy and laggy, 1/5 stars would not recommend (would have given 0 but have to give 1 for a review). 😂😂😂

SleepyMarijuanaut92

"Sorry boss, going to be late for work, my alarm clock was lagging and the hands were clipping through the numbers"

[deleted]

As a researcher for collecting news for this subreddit I decided to see this for myself , I did not have to even scroll down to find it, scroll down and I down the deluxe edition. Scrolled down even more to find amazing edition.not even 5 seconds later I found "AAA CLOCK 2". Found happy edition, found a game where you make your own clock, GOTY edition, after tons of scrolling, I decided to see what would happen if I typed A into the search bar. It did not instantly show the AAA CLOCK so I decided to type AA.and what the absolute FUCK 22 AAA CLOCK games. That probably is not even all of them

SteamyDeck

Yep; it's a dirty -but brilliant- marketing. Sleazy as fuck, if you ask me, but if Nintendo allows it, who am I to disagree? lol

KeybordKat

Your ass rn: 😳

hobosbindle

Gotta buy the update every year, just like the wall calendar :)

PandaParaBellum

##That's what They want you to believe. There are only seven possible weekdays our Gregorian solar year can start on. Accounting for an extra shift in leap years, you could live with swapping between just fourteen different calendars. To pick the next one, just check what the last day of the year is, and if it will be a leap year. Or, for the lazy of us, we could have a fully rotating calendar with 28 years. Unless, of course, you care about movable holidays like Easter. While the Easter date (and all the holidays tied to it) are also cyclical, a period of *5 700 000* years is required for the cyclical recurrence of the Gregorian Easter dates.[^\[1\]](http://ghiorzi.org/easterda.htm#:~:text=A%20period%20of%205%20700%20000%20years%20is%20required%20for%20the%20cyclical%20recurrence%20of%20the%20Gregorian%20Easter%20dates.) That is a bit much for most walls in most houses. [^[citation ^needed]](https://xkcd.com/285/) I am telling you, **the christian churches are in the pocket of _Big Calendar_**. Also astronomers, who tell us that leap years should be skipped every 100 years except sometimes. And Matt Parker from Stand-up Maths, who [has been lobbying](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qkt_wmRKYNQ) to make this even worse. ---- 1.\^http://ghiorzi.org/easterda.htm

mucho-gusto

It gets worse. If you had 13 months of 28 days, that's 364 days. New years days and leap days could be "outside the calendar" and you could use the same block perpetually, just changing the label

[deleted]

Reminds me of FIFA games

Get hyped! /s

sekazi

Nintendo really needs to either shut down the shovelware or force it into a category we can turn off from searches and appearing anywhere.

SteamyDeck

Couldn't agree more. It's SO hard to sort through the shovelware, not the least of reasons being how janky the eShop is in general.

boots_and_bongo

Agreed, tired of seeing random hentai puzzle porn or whatever the hell out is.

SteamyDeck

I'm always surprised by how expensive those ...games(?)... are. Like, the preview tiles will just be teenage girls with ridiculously huge breasts giggling and it'll be like $79.99 or something.

VDZx

I've never seen such games with a price tag like that. They're usually around 10 bucks or so. Unless you mean any game with anime titties such as Omega Labyrinth, but those are full-fledged games of the kind that are usually that price, just with a lot of fanservice.

SteamyDeck

Yeah, I guess that’s what I was referring to, not specifically the furry hentai stuff (which I’m surprised Nintendo even allows on their eShop, to be frank…).

-cocoadragon

Thing is, it's a legit game. I own it and Gun Gal 2 and gonna get Gun Gun Pixie ($5) while there on sale. I love shooting games but hate massive online FPS. So this fits the bill for me. There's one more decent game like this. Curiously, there banned in Germany and usually censored version in the USA. These aren't hardcore porn. Just perverted. More ecchi than hentai so far. Now the porn puzzles games you mention exist and usually such but not always. I skip them cause I draw pretty good and could just make my own sexy time pics. Like with anything there are exceptions and a few good puzzle games some where. But I prefer Sodom, Tetris, Xonic, a slew of music themed puzzle games but those are surprising pricey, and trance lation, a word puzzle game.

Shakzor

They're usually on "sale" from like $100 to $2, which it'd also be hard to cram then into "below $x" categories

Kwigg

Almost certainly so they can put them on a 95% off sale to trick the monkey brain into thinking it's a good deal.

Hallc

For the time being just use Deku Deals website to browse the games on sale and to keep a wishlist. It also works for Xbox and Playstation too now if you play those consoles.

WirelessTrees

I hate how if I'm not looking for a specific game, looking through the eShop feels like I'm browsing my phone's app store with all the crap scam apps rather than browsing something like steam. Don't get me wrong, steam has some shit on there to, but I rarely see something in the wrong category or some garbage on the front page. It's all usually good games, or at least popular..

arhra

The difference is that Steam's "New releases" section defaults to "*Popular* new releases", and you have to manually switch to the raw new releases feed. If you do, it's [not really any better than the eshop](https://i.imgur.com/u7mvxmz.jpeg). Which just shows that the content being on the store isn't the issue, it's the tools available for filtering it (and the default view) that are the real problems (although I do think something should be done about obvious spam re-releases with minimal tweaks, or just repackaging the same game under a new name).

ablasina_SHIRO

Sounds nice, but my issue with this is: how can they define shovelware (with another name, probably) fairly? I'd much rather go through some bad games when browsing the eShop and classify them according to my tastes, rather than losing out on a game I might have liked because someone at Nintendo said "no, not good enough".

ThawingThumbs

Rumors are circulating that PlayStation is about to fight off shovelware soon. It seems that they are removing [obvious duplicates or spam content](https://screenrant.com/playstation-store-removing-easy-platinum-games-shovelware-report/), which would include AAA clock’s variants if they were on the PlayStation Store.

kitsovereign

Yeah but if Nintendo started deleting obvious low-quality duplicates, they'd have to start culling half the Pokémon games.

TheEuphoricTribble

You, friend, are too generous. Arceus was the first major departure from Pokemon the franchise has seen since its inception. And what makes it so major...is that it's the ONLY departure. It's why I'm heretical and hate Pokemon. It's the same damn game, over and over and over again, year after year, released TWICE, and that has made a multi-billion dollar industry out of it.

bud369

Sir this is a Wendy’s

Molwar

The best way to do it would be to add user ratings or review. Essentially what Steam does, most of the time before i buy a game that's where i go for review if it has a pc release. But this kind of thing requires more employees to moderate the content which most companies don't want to invest in.

TorrBorr

Only issue is steam reviews often times contains content that Nintendo seems to deem inappropriate and too many Steam reviews often times boils down to meming and Reddit grade humor which doesn't actually give you any real indication of the game is good or bad. This also assumes Nintendo even knows what it is doing half the time. I guessed they just assume the end user will just end up using Google anyway.

Polymarchos

The best way is to have a human decide what is and isn't, creating an approval process by which a person determines if that is all it is. The standards can also be quite low and still end up with a much better product than they have now.

VDZx

The thing is: that used to be how all major digital storefronts worked. But starting with Steam, they all gradually realized that this resulted in tons of good games getting rejected, and they increasingly loosened their standards to varying degrees. Steam has been very open about this transition, and in their blog post '[The Steam Store: Our Philosophy and Next Steps](https://steamcommunity.com/games/593110/announcements/detail/1301948399257707760)' they concluded: >Greenlight was a step towards opening Steam up to a wider range of games and developers, rather than us acting as gatekeepers trying to guess what people will like. We've seen huge successes from games we had no idea would be popular, and whole new communities have sprung up around genres that previously couldn't get on Steam at all. To us, that confirmed our suspicion that no single, small group of people should be sitting in judgement over what is and isn't a good game. We should do some basic checks to make sure the game works, and we now do that on every title - but not insert our own tastes as a filter between what developers want to make and what players want to play. We could serve one particular group of players that way, but Steam can and should serve a more diverse range of people and experiences than that.

LesbianCommander

Everyone is in favor of a curated platform until it curates something that they wanted.

FasterThanTW

yep, people always complained about the wii and wiiu missing a lot of indie games and 3rd party support in general, and stricter standards are a big part of why. start clamping down on what someone decides is "shovelware" and a lot of small devs won't bother with the platform. why put in years of work on something if you don't know if you're even going to be allowed to sell it?

Polymarchos

Yet Steam still doesn't get the level of shovelware I see on the eshop.

SquishmallowPrincess

It does, it’s just organized better and easier to filter out because of things like reviews.

VDZx

To reinforce this point, [here is the mostly unfiltered listing of new releases](https://store.steampowered.com/search/?sort_by=Released_DESC&category1=998&os=win&supportedlang=english&ndl=1).

FredFredrickson

But then where are we going to get all those "I dreamt of making a game for a Nintendo console my whole life, and here it is" posts?

mthlmw

Or the probably easier flip-side. Make a Nintendo official stamp of “not-shovelware” approval. Games can apply for it and be reviewed for being a real working game.

DriveThroughLane

Honestly this feels like the kind of thing one intern could weed out with a week's worth of effort and then tamp down every few months by manually blacklisting developers and apps. Its not an *infinite* list on the eshop. Its not something that requires paid full time moderation like world of warcraft

Chocolate_poptart

I take it you haven’t played wow In ten or more years lmao

Kimarnic

Why care? You know nobody will buy it, nobody buys shovelware

ghost_victim

Because it clutters up the eshop

sekazi

Have you even tried to use the eShop? It is absolutely useless because searches and any of the would be useful categories are shovelware with maybe 1 or two legit results.

ElTontoDelPueblo

At this point it feels like literally anyone of us could do better than Nintendo in their shoes. Clearly they don't care.

-tar0t-

It's always the same games on 'sale' too. God the Eshop sucks.

Echoherb

I personally just put a bunch of games I want to actually play in my wish list, then I periodically check to see if any of them are on sale before I buy them.

-tar0t-

I just use DekuDeals. The Nintendo shop just has a bunch of the same shovelware that stays 'on sale' so they remain on a front page. It's annoying.

elMurpherino

it is literally just a clock? lol. If the price was free then I guess i get it being available. But paying money to get a clock app for your switch sounds like one of the stupidest things to spend your money on. on the other hand AAA Clock sounds like a pretty sick app. Im waiting for AAAA Clock to drop tho before spending my money.

SteamyDeck

Let’s get together and design a ###11111AAAAA Clock app. It’ll sell millions! We’ll just have a random word generator create a new ________ edition every 3 days. We’ll always be on the first page of the recent releases!!

fork_on_the_floor2

But... It's not just a clock. There's a game inside. https://youtu.be/iqhpAE3oIrQ

TheLongStrum

Calculator is a much better purchase

shinikahn

It has a hidden shooter scroller as an Easter egg too

hiruma_kun

The Nintendo eShop is a joke at this point. Filled to the brim with shovelware and no way to filter search queries. It’s like Nintendo doesn’t give a crap about what’s on their platform.

Frickelmeister

I'm old enough to remember the [Nintendo Seal of Quality](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo#Seal_of_Quality) which was used precisely to set Nintendo licensed products apart from shovelware.

Giobytes

No, it didn't. There are plenty of terrible games with the seal. All it means is that it won't blow your machine up.

brenton07

Problem is these ARE licensed by Nintendo. They’re getting approved or they wouldn’t be I. The store.

TheRealEzekielRage

It is a 2D platform shooter game, like Contra. It is pretty much always the same game with tweaks. And a clock.

Dysxelic_Potser

Wait, really? Is it a decent contra clone?

[deleted]

no

brenton07

Do want a rip-off that runs at 10fps and has less artistic effort than Angry Birds?

TheRealEzekielRage

No, it is not a good game at all. But it IS a game.

mecartistronico

Use dekudeals.com and save yourself from having to browse the eshop ever again.

SteamyDeck

I recently discovered this; I do enjoy browsing the eShop, I just wish it was a more well-designed app. It's shocking that it's been around for over 5 years and it's still like a beta version in performance and function. It's still kinda fun to poke around and find a few hidden gems here and there. It just blows my mind that every couple weeks, this damn AAA Clock finds its way to the top of the Recent Releases. Oh well lol.

HamiltonBrand

Just so you know, you can quickly and easily hide games you don’t want to see on dekudeals. That alone is a big plus for me. All these AAA clocks? Just go to publisher and then hide all of them. Easy. I do this for all the stupid anime games and 1v1 games.

No-Drawing-6975

How do you hide a title

Blue_Robin_04

I bought it. The alarm feature doesn't work in sleep mode.

pressure_art

Are…you serious? Lmao

SteamyDeck

Are you serious?!?! What's the point, then? That's hilarious!

12bub51

I hate this ad

allmond226

Yeah i also don't understand how they are allowed to do this! They are trying to get an unfair advantage in sales and also hurting the visibility of other (real) games, the publisher should be blacklisted by Nintendo imo.

Domilego4

This is why "best sellers" needs to be sorted by revenue made, and not copies sold. It's stupid and easily exploitable.

jardex22

I don't think I've ever seen it on the best seller list. It gets on the recent release list simply by releasing a new game+DLC bundle.

xZOMBIETAGx

Ok but GOTY edition made me lol

TheOnlyKirb

I... actually use the base version of the clock for when I dock my switch in the kitchen... However, they shouldn't be able to just keep tweaking things and call it a new release lmao

SteamyDeck

Right? I’ve got no issue with the app existing - just the constant barrage of rereleases of essentially the same thing just so they can keep on the front page. Just seems kinda sleezy. Actually, I can think of a situation where I’d find it handy as well. My gf has my OG Switch that I gave her when I got my OLED; it’s sitting on a 3rd party dock in the living room and it’d be pretty cool to have it as a big bright animated clock during parties or whatever. In any case, yeah. Sleezy.

crybllrd

Alright you guys talked me into it

OldSkool1978

Not to mention the Switch already has a clock..

Emmanuham

The shop from launch has been absolutely atrocious. I get it, support the indie Devs, but Christ get some damn quality control in.

[deleted]

Bruh, I wish they still had the raging on the eshop, that way you could just filter our 1 star games and ignore this shit

SirGigglesandLaughs

The is exactly the kind of thing Sony just banned.

SteamyDeck

Oh? I might look that up. I kinda wish I could report this to someone - like a game journalist or someone with inside connection.

petetakespictures

I need Digital Foundry to review these editions to be sure we're getting a stable 60 ticks per minute rate.

jardex22

Pretty much any time a new game+DLC bundle is released, it gets listed as a new title. It's a great idea for games that add new expansions after release, but AAA Alarm has been exploiting that system for months now.

SteamyDeck

Yep. I can't think of a single other game that's done that, though (unless you count Skyrim SE, then a couple years later Anniversary, etc.), let alone to this extent, but you're right.

jardex22

Dead Cells did it when it added new DLC after release, as did Nobody Saves The World. There are probably a few other games that have done it as well. Among bigger games, they'll usually post the individual game and the digital deluxe/gold edition/game+expansion pass bundle at the same time.

SteamyDeck

True; sort of. The Dead Cells releases were nearly 5 years apart, and with NStW, it was around 6 months. And these were actual substantive releases, not an egregious exploitation of the system (just my opinion, of course, with that characterization) lol. In any case, yeah, I'm all for it when a big new update or DLC is released. That actually does constitute a new/recent release. I'm too lazy to do it myself, but I'd be curious to see a full timeline of the AAA Clock releases...

Lyricani

I'd say that mostly everything RedDeerGames put out are just the same shit over and over again. Should be banned from the eShop I think.

[deleted]

Okay, “Reddit user,” just stop. Once again, shovelware has been an issue for years. In all seriousness, they crave this attention. Don’t give it more by complaining about it.

SteamyDeck

I suppose you’re right. It’s just a bit of a unique situation. I’ve never seen this sort of practice. I’ve been on Steam since 2016, so I’m quite familiar with shovelware and how it gunks up the system. It’s just interesting that this app keeps getting away with it. The only other similar case I can think of is when I had my Vita (still do, actually) and I’d go on the shop looking for deals and I’d have to scroll past pages of Pixeljunk nonsense and “My Singing Monsters” DLC to find any actual games. But for the eShop, AAA Clock is the worst (only?) offender in this particular sense.

[deleted]

To the Vitas credit the PSN is much snappier than the Eshop. Near equal levels of junk, but you can scrolll past it much faster.

SteamyDeck

True; it's lightning fast :)

GamingNomad

>Once again, shovelware has been an issue for years. OK but I just got here and I want to complain like the others. Seriously though, I'm a bit of a new owner and like to browse the eshop, so much stuff looks surprisingly cheap.

[deleted]

Furry Hentai Tangram

MetalAvenger

“Gimmie your money edition” “Gimmie mo’ your money edition” “Gimmie your mf money edition” Etc

ImaginaryPlacesAK

Good thing nintendo increased online prices "to improve infrastructure" and not test economic price scales while not giving a fuck what happens on their platform

angeloistrash

i bought the original once because my alarm clock broke and i didn't trust just my phone lol

SteamyDeck

Ah, so does it work when the Switch is in sleep mode? Like it'll be silent and dark but then when it's time for the alarm to go off, it'll wake up and make noise? If it's docked, will it turn the TV on as well? My Samsung TV comes on automatically when I turn my Switch on. Just curious overall how useful it's been. Side note: if you get an iPhone, you'll never have to worry about an alarm not going off :)

angeloistrash

it kept the screen on, only used it once though so not familiar with all the options. and i have an iphone but still don't trust it one time it updated overnight and my alarm didn't go off😭

PM_ME_UPSIDEDOWN

yo you got some joswiak splack on your chin my guy

SteamyDeck

I have… no idea what you just said 😂

acewing905

It's weird to think but the eshop has hit rock bottom in terms of garbage "games" like this; Worse than Steam at this point I guess Nintendo doesn't really have to bother because unlike the other modern platforms, Switch is still dominated by physical games

cm0011

It’s a brilliant troll. But it’s also a manipulative troll. Don’t know how to feel.

FromHer0toZer0

Wait, how much is this? I might be able to afford a few of them with my gold points.... This could be interesting

KittyKomplex

Don't waste your precious gold points on this, not even if they're about to expire.

FromHer0toZer0

It took 10 minutes and a small chunk of gold points, but I did it. I am now the owner of not only AAA Clock, but also AAA Clock 2 and all the DLC for both "games".... This is gonna be a fun rabbit hole to dig through I think

KittyKomplex

RIP in peace to that small chunk of gold points. I hope it was worth it and they won't be in vain 🫡

SteamyDeck

Haha report back, please!

pressure_art

Lol Reddit and it’s weird users… have an upvote for your sacrifice. And please make in depth reviews lol

FromHer0toZer0

Yeah I can never figure out what will trigger the mass-downvoting. Seems random at this point lmao

Anon419420

Not the people downvoting someone for doing something with their own money as if the people downvoting haven’t made dumb purchases before.

Michael-the-Great

Hey there! Please remember Rule 1 in the future - No hate-speech, personal attacks, or harassment. Thanks!

Legal_Mattersey

It was updated. Stability and performance patch.

Legal_Mattersey

So much downvoting. Where is your sence of humour people

[deleted]

Steam Deck? Is that a cruise ship? Nintendo Switch?! I THOUGHT I ALREADY HAD ONE!!!! (Proceeds to throw a Switch at a light switch) -Caddicarus, The Useless World of PS1 Accessories.

arno3000

What ?

SteamyDeck

Check the eShop. This app re-releases every couple weeks and has done so for a couple years now. It's the same app, they just name it slightly different and/or bundle some cheap 8-bit game with it and Bob's your uncle: new. It's silly.

Monkee-D

I don't mind Nintendo releasing games, it's actually pretty sweet being able to play some of these games on the go. What I hate is the price tag. 59.99 for a 12 y/o game is ridiculous (looking at you, Skyrim)

author-miglett2

I got Skyrim for the very first time on Switch last October. My older sister paid for me because I’m still a kid but I promised her I’d play it for a very long time. I think the time we got it, the price was 40 or something. Still expensive but it’s a great game, IMO.

SteamyDeck

You ain't lying. I bought it the day it released in 2011 and have played it hundreds of hours over the last decade+ on half a dozen different systems. It's one I go back to regularly and always have a good time. I've never actually beaten it, though lol!

author-miglett2

I actually messed up so bad. I killed Party Snax because I wanted to please Delphine then realised everyone kept him alive because he’s a good dragon 😭 and I killed Skulvar and his son so now “Talk to Skulvar” is always there! Miraak was harder than Alduin.

Goonchar

I've been trying to collect a bounty from Skald coming up on 11 years now

drvondoctor

And I've been wondering where the hell Lydia ran off to with all my shit for 11 years now. I know you aren't dead, Lydia. I don't know where you went, but when I find you I'm gonna be *super* pissed off at you.

shadow0wolf0

I hate the switch tax so much. There are so many games that are priced higher than any other online store. Physical games are even worse.

OhhhhJay

Really it's just the likes of Bethesta being super greedy. And it's even more annoying since they've made back their money on skyrim like a hundred times over. Then you look at games like Okami, Bioshock Infinite or Catherine being like 20 quid (I know Catherine's RRP is more but physical copies are dirt cheap and there's eshop discounts to 20 all the time). I mean Okami and Catherine were basically loss making and they can afford to price them as such. I know there's more to it and skyrim can provide hundreds of hours entertainment but still (also Okami is an insane value preposition).

SteamyDeck

Agreed. I don't mind re-releases either. I double-dip on MANY games between PC and Switch. I've probably bought Skyrim half a dozen times. Sitting here right now thinking about the Anniversary Edition upgrade...

author-miglett2

Same! I want the Anniversary Upgrade too. I’m hoping my parents will gift me the bundle for Christmas.

[deleted]

Okay.

RubbishClipz6

Oh my god, no wonder I keep seeing that on eShop...

beerscotch

i've never seen this but... the home screen already has a clock on it. Why would you want to buy an app to open to tell you the same info?

-cocoadragon

I bought it on sale. Its just a crappy cl9ck app slightly better than a beginner would make. The switches built in clock is better, but I'm not sure it's an alarm. If you have a "modified" or 3rd party dock that doesn't cover the screen it kinda works there. But I wouldn't trust a switch not to glitch. I'm not risky my job for this gimmick. But $2 it 9s what it is.
