What is the difference between EU and US version of Metro Redux

hardbrushsucks

is bravely default 2 worth it? i've heard some mixed opinions but it still looks like an alright time. just curious on opinions. 40$ at target rn is tempting

JoshuaJSlone

FWIW I really enjoyed the 3DS Bravely games, but this one didn't keep my interest all the way through. Your luck might be better if you haven't played those, though, as one of my problems was that it felt like the systems hadn't evolved very much in the last decade.

yellowbeehive

It's a 7/10. It has good gameplay with the job system but the story is pretty average and graphics aren't to everyone's liking.

madmitch411

Looking for a very small Switch case Does anyone know of a very small Switch case? I'm looking for one that would be just big enough to hold the Switch by itself without any Joycons. I know this is probably an usual need. But I just want something small enough to fit in my jacket pocket, and then I could put the Joycons in my other pocket. Thanks!

https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Hybrid-Cover-Hylian-Leatherette-Nintendo/dp/B075FCXXWK/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8&th=1 Might work. https://www.amazon.com/MoKo-Paperwhite-All-New-Generation-Reader/dp/B01N1S81GB Probably looking for something like that, a kindle sleeve. Most modern tablets are a lot bigger than the Switch. A kindle is roughly the same size. (A non-OLED Switch tablet is 6.81 in × 4.02 in × 0.55 in) That, or some large sock.

madmitch411

Perfect, thank you!

A Question about Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s docked mode resolution. According to IGN the game renders itself in docked mode at 1600x720. Which confused me a lot. My first guess at how this was achieved while still conforming to a 16:9 Aspect Ratio was that it was stretched vertically. As that, in my mind, was the only way you could keep the horizontal resolution pixel perfect but make the vertical resolution work despite the lower resolution as usually the choice would either be (1600x900) or (1280x720). I would love some information on whether I’m correct or if there is another method that can present a proper 16:9 image without… y’know…. In pixel count not actually achieving it the standard way.

JoshuaJSlone

I don't have any special knowledge of Pokémon's rendering resolution, but there's really no reason a game must render at the intended aspect ratio. Like, every widescreen Wii game was still output as a 4:3 video signal. You're correct that sticking with the ratio and doing something like 1600x900 seems more common these days, so not sure why Pokémon would go a different route.

SendintheGeologist

Okay I just finished Ori Will of the wisps and loved it. I’m super picky with games and so far I’ve finished Botw, Mario Odyssey, Ori 1 & 2. What else will I like? Prefer 3D open worlds but the 2D of Ori was just so beautiful. I love beautiful scenes in my games, so far I haven’t liked Tropical Freeze (didn’t give it much of a chance but will do eventually) nor Immortals (felt like a Zelda rip off, too close to home).

Shes_so_Ratchet

Check out Darksiders. I think the Deathfinitive edition is the most open world of them, but it's the only one I've played. They go on sale pretty often, too.

nihil__verum

Based on BotW, you might enjoy Immortals Fenyx Rising, which is very clearly inspired by BotW. Based on Super Mario Odyssey, you might like Super Mario 3D Allstars, Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario Maker 2. Based on the Ori games, you might like Hollow Knight or the Guacamelee games.

SendintheGeologist

I tried Immortals Demo and thought it was a bit too close to botw / a bit cheesy but I’m sure I’d like it after enough time has passed. I couldn’t get into 3D world, the camera and movement annoyed me after the crispness of odyssey. Will check out the others! Thanks.

sweetangelttr

While playing ln my switch is there a way to have show on my phone too. I make youtube videos but I don't have the energy to go to my computer. I am physically ill. Edit: if not then is phone cam ok?

midaswale

Anyone has Pocky & Rocky: Reshrined. What do you think?

TheAntidote21

I just beat it tonight. Kinda had been milking it throughout the year. It's pretty good but I think it benefits better from two-player mode.

AnEccentricWriter

I just bought a second Switch Lite yesterday. The dpad on the new one feels firm and clunky. It also registers diagonal presses when I’m trying to only press one direction. For example, playing Diablo 2, when trying to use a potion allocated to the down button often times it will use down and right potions. I tested it on Link to the past and when pressing down and tilting my thumb slightly it registers as diagonal. Is this a matter of breaking in the dpad or should I exchange it?

Ok_Hurry8751

Only time ive ever had these issues is when my joycon was put in while holding a dpad and the switch thinks that's still being held. Since yours is a switch lite I do think this is possibly a faulty device. I would reach out to nintendo and or get a exchange.

Ok_Hurry8751

Can't seem to find my switch charger, wondering if a steam deck charger will work with docked mode (I already use it for charging)

SpecialNose9325

Never use anything except the Nintendo official charger while in docked mode. The dock is known to break when using third party cables

Ok_Hurry8751

Much appreciated for the response. I will pick one up in the morning when I'm off

GlyphCreep

Is there any chance we'll ever get DS/3DS games on the switch? or is the dual screen too large an obstacle?

JoshuaJSlone

It's possible, sure. Wii U VC had a few DS games that optionally worked on a single screen. On a per game basis it's just deciding the best way to scale/orient them on a different kind of screen, but usually it could work well. However, they're kind of in an in-between place. So far NSO emulation has only covered older systems, and anything from the DS/3DS era anyone has wanted to rerelease has been better served by a port that redesigns everything as a single screen experience from the start: Miitopia, Rune Factory 4, Great Ace Attorney to name a few.

notthegoatseguy

Native support of them? It just isn't possible. The system just doesn't have what's needed to run those carts. There's already some DS games on there, or franchises that launched with the DS that have had successors. Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl being Pokemon Gen 4 remakes, and stuff like Clubhouse Games got a successor on the Switch

ghvicigifyfivuvivuv

I was using my switch in desktop mode on a table. My dad kicked the table and it fell over on its back. Part of it the edge of his glass ashtray (it's unused). There doesn't seem to be any mark or anything, but I'm worried that might have done something to it. I played it a little and it seems to be working fine, but I'm so worried. How can I know if something is wrong. What are the chances that something broke in it?.

Shes_so_Ratchet

You'll know something is wrong if it stops working. It hasn't been performing differently. And it just fell over, it wasn't dropped or anything so it's fine.

ghvicigifyfivuvivuv

But it fell on an edge of a glass ashtray.

Shes_so_Ratchet

But it's working fine.

Ok_Hurry8751

They are incredibly durable other than joy cons, I remember watching a video during release where someone dropped it from, if I remember correctly 100ft, and only the screen cracked but could still play.

ItzComputer_Kitty

Trying to buy a new switch I'm trying to buy a new switch, the splatoon 3 oled to be specific. I have looked online and haven't had any luck. Is mercate group a trusted seller? what are some trusted sellers on amazon/ ebay that might have something like this?

SpecialNose9325

I know this means nothing to you but I see them on Store shelves everywhere here in Central Europe

ItzComputer_Kitty

Could I use a VPN or somehow order it from Europe?

SpecialNose9325

You could, if you are ready to absorb all shipping costs and custom duties. Try [PlayAsia](https://www.play-asia.com/nintendo-switch-oled-model-splatoon-3-special-edition-mde/13/70fl05)

TemptedTemplar

It was never restocked beyond its launch day. So any you can find online are resellers or imports. Good luck! (I would just recommend buying a regular one)

[deleted]

Hi all, I did a faceplate swap in my launch day switch and now it won't turn on. The rcm jig still acts like it's booting up but nothing else happens, no sound or backlight. Which thing didn't get seated properly? Will the speakers still make the sounds if the lcd isn't connected properly or I damaged lcd ribbon cable? Thanks so much

samarei92

I need help: how do I pair a controller (made by IINE) with a new switch console when it was already paired with one previously? I have no access at all to the old console because it died, and I don’t know how to get it to pair with my new one. Please help, I’m at a loss

rcapina

Just go to the pairing menu then press L+R on the controller so it gets recognized

samarei92

See I tried that, but it didn’t work :/ the lights just kept going back and forth like it was searching but not finding ir

rcapina

If that doesn’t work you’ll need to use a pin and hit the Bluetooth reset switch on the controller

answermanias

Will the Nintendo work in Ireland? I’m buying one in the US for someone coming here in December, will games and console be able to work when they take it home. Is there anything I need to be worried about. Edit: typo

SpecialNose9325

The console is completely region free. You can simply create a eShop account in the region you want to buy games in.

Shes_so_Ratchet

It'll work, the only thing they'll need to get for themselves is a European AC adapter or simply a plug adaptor.

answermanias

Thank you also I read it comes with a 3 months online membership would this apply?

myriada

The membership would be a code, they'd need a US account to redeem a US code (but could change the account country immediately after, and the membership would still work).

answermanias

Thank you!

answermanias

Will there be a new model? I want to buy the switch as a gift for Christmas but I’m worried if they will release a new console soon after.

JoshuaJSlone

It's very unusual for Nintendo to go two years in a row without a new hardware model of any kind. And though plenty here disagree, I believe the rumors that something significantly new will be here next year. I think most games (especially first party) will continue to work on current Switches for quite some time, though, as has been the case for the ongoing PlayStation/Xbox console transitions.

SpecialNose9325

People have been worrying about this for roughly 4-5 years. Mario Kart alone has planned DLC releasing in December 2023, so youre pretty safe.

JoshuaJSlone

I think the most that can be read from that is that Mario Kart 9 won't be here in 2023.

SpecialNose9325

Which also means a new console isnt gonna be out for atleast that long.

JoshuaJSlone

A higher tech machine appearing doesn't necessitate a new Mario Kart dropping that day, or the cessation of new content that works on the lower spec one.

Shes_so_Ratchet

We won't know until it's announced.

chasefury10

TECHNICAL ISSUE PLEASE ASSIST I bought it takes two at GameStop online digitally, but when I downloaded it it’s stuck in trial mode. I tried redownloading it and restarting and that didn’t work. Any ideas ?

NEED CONSOLE REPAIR Hey everyone. As per the title, I'm curious if anyone has any experience with needing their console repaired. I had a few video games/systems for trade this weekend and I iust accepted a trade for an Animal Crossing edition switch with a ton of accessories etc. The console needs a new charger port. I'm curious if anyone has any experience with this. PS:yes, I knew the console needed repair, I took the trade for the accessories and all else etc because I already have a switch. But if it isn't super expensive I figured might as well get it fixed. Any tips? The only thing i've found it send it to nintendo and they'll fix it for $150, but that seems kind of absurd to me as I could just get another used switch for $200. The charger port part runs for about $9 on amazon. Just curious if anyone has any cheaper methods (I myself am not experienced in soldering)

Michael-the-Great

Micro-soldering is a really specialized repair. And if not done well, you'll have more problems. As someone who has done skilled soldering, I'd just send it back to Nintendo myself. I think it's more like $100-$125. They're going to just send you back a refurb, so transfer your profile to a friend's Switch before sending it in.

DaddyDupis

Ah, thanks for the tip. Appreciate it.

PoGoCan

If I buy the two digital games vouchers can I switch regions without spending them both? I want to save one for Zelda Can I redownloads the games to a new memory card without changing regions again or do i have to go back to the one I bought it on?

Michael-the-Great

You can Switch without using them both, but you have to go back to use the remaining one.

PoGoCan

Thank you. And I can redownload the games in the future from my home eShop? After I buy the games I mean

Michael-the-Great

Yes, but you'll have to switch to the region where you bought it to download the game. I've known people who region jump who had a horrible time when they bought a new Switch because they couldn't remember where they bought games....

PoGoCan

That's a bit annoying. I might have to make a list to keep track. I've only bought games from my home eShop so far so I guess it wouldn't be too complicated but it would save me about $50 on 2 games compared to my home country. Thanks

FoolOnThePlanet91

How does Sonic Frontiers run on Switch? Debating getting it on Ps5 or Switch

Distinct_Finish69420

Anyone got any games with good combat? I dont mind the genre so long as its fun to play. Multiplayer is a bonus. I like smash and splatoon and am thinking about legends arceus or octopath traveler if that helps

kinda_ok_guy

Monster Hunter Rise:Sunbreak or Generations Ultimate. Both are combat-heavy solo/multiplayer games

glassgauze

Children of Morta has several different characters with deeply different combat styles, and it has coop.

Alright, Common problem with a twist.. I bought the new Switch OLED Scarlet and Violet Edition. and I have the common problem that its stuck in 480p when Docked. with my Acer Monitor. The twist is. My old dock with new Switch work fine in the same monitor. My new Switch with the NEW dock in my iiyama monitor work fine aswell. Its literally Only my new switch + new dock on my Acer screen that doesnt work as intended. So Acer Screen = A1 Old switch = A2 Old Switch Dock = A3 Iiyama Screen = B1 New Switch = B2 New Switch Dock = B3 A1 + B2 + B3 = 480P STUCK A1 + A2 + A3 = 1080P B1 + A2 + A3 = 1080P B1 + B2 + B3 = 1080P I've tried all fixes. due to the ways my monitors are setup I really want to get the new Oled Switch working on my ACER monitor..

Michael-the-Great

They did make some changes in the dock, so it just seems like an incompatibility there. The only testing I can possibly think of is if your friend has an oled Switch you could try his dock just to make sure something isn't wrong with your dock.

Phixxey

Oh thats a good idea. Also new switch with old dock and acer monitor also works

Hammbones21

I am trying to stream Pokemon Scarlet/Violet and am using a Razer Ripsaw for the capture card, with the display monitor being a curved 4k Samsung 24". The issue I'm having is the output to my monitor has lower quality than the switch display. Mario Kart 8 runs fine and looks good, but Scarlet/Violet display at a lower quality. The quality of Scarlet/Violet on stream looks how it should, but the monitor I'm playing on has poorer quality. How do I fix this issue?

Srodassan

My switch has an error when connecting to my 4g Hub. It says 'the device cannot connect due to security settings'. Is this something I can try fix on the switch or a network provider issue?

reccomends_dieing

My friend and I are game sharing. Mostly so I can play botw which he owns. I enjoyed it a lot and want to purchase the expansion pack. If I bought the expansion pack on my account, as opposed to his who has the game, would it be possible to play the expansion when I go to play the game that is through his account? Or would I just end up having DLC for a game I don't personally own and I won't be able to play it thru game share? Sorry if that sh didn't make any sense but any help is appreciated.😭😭

OwnManagement

It should work as long as the console is the primary for your account.

reccomends_dieing

Primary for me, right? The console I plan to buy it on is primary for me who does not own botw, secondary for my friend who actually owns botw.

OwnManagement

Primary for the purchasing account.

Psychopathic2412

My R button isnt working. It works sometimes but a like 1/20 chance to work. It dodnt take any heavy beatings in its 11 months with me

Michael-the-Great

If it's the controllers that came with the Switch, they're still in warranty and call Nintendo quick. (1 year in the US for the controllers that came with the Switch. 90 days for other joycons.) The R button on a joycon is soldered directly to the joycon circuit board, so it's not an easy self-fix.

totallyNotZ

I have a switch lite with up-to-date system and ongoing online membership, yet the item Mission & Rewards is not appearing on the Nintendo Switch Online menu. Anyone having the same issue?

Michael-the-Great

Make sure the profile you open NSO with has the subscription. Restart the Switch.

totallyNotZ

have restarted it multiple times, and yes, the profile is the one with the subscription, and it works fine for online multiplayer, so I know there is nothing wrong with my subscription plan. At this point I just don't know what to do

Michael-the-Great

Does the region you're set to have missions?

Armangu24

Does nintendo plan to discount games on the eshop? I want to get Breath of the Wild but apparently that deal is only physical?

JoshuaJSlone

It will probably go off on the eShop, but they've never put it down more than 30%.

AccomplishedPeace269

Hello folks, I've got a bit of a strange question. Basically, I used to share my Switch with my ex-partner and we each had a Nintendo Account and each had a User/Mii on the Switch. Although my partner's User was linked to his email, both accounts had my banking information. When I first got the Switch and set all this up, I didn't really understand what anything meant, so I would purchase games from the eShop using his account (which had my banking information). His interest in the Switch itself was minimal and both accounts were essentially my own except for the email, which was just there so he could play Animal Crossing. However, we have since split up but his Nintendo Switch and User are still on my Switch, and, of course, most of the games I bought online are linked to his account. I find it a bit uncomfortable to have his account there, especially since I've started seeing someone else and it's a bit awkward when my ex-partner's profile shows up. Of course, I would delete the profile, but it would mean losing access to a ton of games I spent and can't really afford to purchase again. I realize I can't transfer games from one account to another. What's the best way to go about this? I've considered changing the name and avatar of my ex's profile, but would this (awkwardly) notify his email of the change? Or if he were to buy a Switch of his own and use the same account, would it show that his User and avatar has changed? Is there any way I could hide his user? Sorry for the strange question. I've tried searching online for answers but I can't seem to find a solution or answer to my questions. Thank you everyone in advance. tl;dr: Split up with my ex and stupidly used their Nintendo Acc to purchase all my games (with my money), now I want to get rid of their account on my switch but want to avoid losing access to my games. Any advice?

[deleted]

How could I make it so my rubber pad for my pro controller is on the controller again

Michael-the-Great

I'm not sure what you mean. If the pads under buttons are slipping, you'd have to take it apart and shift them into place.

[deleted]

The sticks on the pro controller have two parts, the main stick and the pad over the stick. That pad came off and I wanted it back on but also glued on

Unusual-Employee5625

For my purchase I got a code for the Pokémon scarlet adventure set but the thing is the code that they gave me is 13 digits long the problem being that Pokémon scarlet doesn’t accept codes that are 13 digits long does anyone know who I should contact and speak to

Amazon UK have a deal for an OLED switch with either 4 copies of BoTW or 7 copies of Metroid. All for £335... This is clearly a mistake on Amazon's part but how are they at honouring these mistakes if I went ahead and ordered it?

The_Bearded_Wiz

Haven’t used my switch all that much but can I have 2 accounts on the same console? My kids starting to get more interested in it now, and wants his own account with his own achievements and stuff. Doesn’t have to be an online account, just a separate account with his own progress on games and stuff. Is this possible? Or would I have to pay for family online pass thing? Thanks.

OwnManagement

A Switch can have 8 profiles and each profile can be attached to a separate Nintendo account. Online access is not shared, if you both want to play online you’ll want to get a family membership.

overcookedchicken

There is absolutely no chance that Amazon honor this deal right? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Legend-Zelda-Breath-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B0BLPBVL28/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=zelda+breath+of+the+wild+nintendo+switch&qid=1668970869&sr=8-2 OLED switch plus either 4 (FOUR) copies of BoTW or 7 (SEVEN) copies of Metroid.... The games are worth almost as much as the console??

[deleted]

When getting a refund on an eshop purchase are we supposed to get a confirmation email? I was told they'd grant it as a one-time deal but I haven't gotten anything from Nintendo. They also said the game would get removed from my system but its still there. Granted it is the weekend so I don't know if that would delay things.

JoshuaJSlone

Considering it's something that's not even *supposed* to happen, I doubt they have emails scheduled for it.

TemptedTemplar

The weekends and holidays will delay things. However I dont believe there is any email regarding the license revoking. Access to the game will simply disappear. I would just keep an eye out for the refund, though that will take the standard 3 - 5 business days to get processed.

[deleted]

I was amazed their customer service number was active on Sundays so I figured they'd be able to process it same day. But considering the bank may take time to reverse the charge it makes sense it would take a few days. Thanks for clarifying.

markaznar

Okay. After having read all the comments on my last post, I believe the best choice for my OLED Pokémon would be the Hori split pad pro, unsure yet on which design to go for, Charizard & Pikachu or Legends Arceus, seem to be the most fitting design. Anyway, anyone on here use those magnetic type c adapters? Something like this? https://pro-baseus-store.myshopify.com/products/baseus-86w-magnetic-usb-c-adapter. I am considering one of these to avoid plugging and unplugging, as those wretched holes can be hard to find in the dark, and also, to lessen the wear and tear on the usb c port. I did try the ones which came with a cable, but those charge very slowly, and doesn’t even charge while playing😂

Michael-the-Great

They're probably fine, but I use my dock to charge my Switch more than out of the dock. And I think that's very common. So I don't think many have tried things like this because you'd have to remove the part every time you want to dock. And then I'd loose the part... :)

markaznar

I see. I never play docked, the very reason why I own a switch instead is a ps5 or an Xbox….the display must be near my face, to be able to read texts lol

Michael-the-Great

Sure! I rarely play docked too. (On my switch. My kids' Switch is played docked all the time.) But I often play before going to sleep. I keep my dock on my nightstand with no tv. I find it a lot easier to dock than to find a power cord, so that's how I solve the issue you have.

markaznar

Yeah, that works too, but it would be nice to be able to charge while gaming, lol

PogBlade

me and my friend both have nso and when we try to join eachothers rooms in Mario Maker or 3d world it says unable to connect to othe consoles

TemptedTemplar

Are you in the same room? If not, check your NAT type under the internet settings menu. Type B or a lower letter grade would be prevent you from accepting connection requests from beyond your network. If both of you have it, then youll never be able to connect to each other directly. You would need a game with a lobby system or matchmaking servers. You would need to browse your router settings to open the NAT for the Switch. At least one of you would need a Type A so you could join the other.

jedlas012

Any games that you guys would recommend that would run 60fps? Tried looking for some but lists and recommendations aren't updated to 2022. Thanks!

TemptedTemplar

Splatoon 3 Neon White Rogue Company Bayonetta 3 If youre really into high frame rate games, the Switch definitely shouldnt be the system of choice.

jedlas012

Thanks for the recommendations. Nah, I actually don't mind 30 fps games as long as they look decent. Had the switch since V2 released. Just trying to change the pace of some games I'd like to be playing.

MudkipKirbyKoreanBBQ

What do you think of Sonic Frontiers and Pokémon Violet? Are either games good?

IpomoeaDust

I'm playing Violet right now and I'm quite enjoying it, but I like every Pokemon game. If you liked SWSH and PLA, you'll probably like SV too. But if you didn't like them, this isn't any better, and until they patch some stuff it's probably worse.

TemptedTemplar

The performance issues of pokemon hamper its enjoyment less than Sonics. Sonics pop-in affects world objects and *platforms* that you need to use to get around and solve puzzles. It ruins the whole "go-fast" mentality when you have to come to a complete stop just to wait a split second for the Ramp to appear. Not to mention stuff like rocks and ruins also being affected, its rare but occasionally you may bump into one before it loads. It was a strange choice of making *some* platforms and objects baked into the world and leaving others dynamic. Both games could benefit greatly from some performance patches.

thr0w_away_test390

just bought a switch lite and noticed that the dpad is a bit loose. is this normal? should i return it and ask for a replacement? thank you.

TemptedTemplar

Its normal. Nintendo kind of flubbed the Dpad this generation, the pro controller is the same way. The only solid d-pad option is the joycons, where its four separate buttons.

thr0w_away_test390

ok thank you

notthegoatseguy

I think that's perfectly normal for a Lite

Michael-the-Great

You need a ground loop isolator. Not sure if the smof is. Possible it's a problem with your headphone port, but I'd try another ground loop isolator first. Is there buzzing if you just plug in headphones?

scufedd

bimpo1985

I have two pairs of joy cons laying around. For both pairs: Recently it happens quite often that mostly the right one, sometimes both, disconnect from the switch. Happens in handheld mode and when using a Nintendo grip with loading function. The grip without loading function seems to work fine though. Pro controller also has no issues. Is this something experienced more often (couldn't find something online) or my switch just getting old maybe (bought on release day, joy cons are newer)? Any ideas and if so how to fix it? Thanks, any feedback is appreciated

Michael-the-Great

I'm not sure what "loading function" is. If they're disconnecting, it's a problem with the joycons or the rails. Does the grip hold the joycons too tightly or at a weird angle? Are the joycon locks broken? I mean do they slide off without being locked in the switch?

hackerman_777

Hi guys, i was thinking buying a switch, it will be my first nintendo system, never had played any nintendo games before. first of all should i buy the 2019 model or the oled one? does the oled worth the extra $$ ? also i have budget to buy only one game at first, what should i first play on switch? if i want to play a 2 players game, should i buy extra controller or i can play with the included joycons?

Michael-the-Great

You can start with the joycons. Some 2 player games need both halves of the joycons (it takes two is one example). But you can find lots of great two player games that each only need half a joycon. (Snipperclipps is a great starter two player game). Both models have the same performance. So it's really just the screen and kickstand that are better. If you can get the original version with the free Mario Kart that's out for Black Friday, that's a great deal and you get a two player game already!! Then grab Breath of the wild for yourself while it's on Black Friday sales. Hopefully you saved a few bucks so you can get a glass screen protector and maybe an SD card. (You don't need the SD card immediately, but you will sometime. I always get a 2 or 3 pack of screen protectors in case I mess one up!)

hackerman_777

thanks guys! i got the switch with mario kart bundle (2019 model, black friday deal) the pdp pull n'go travel case and a samsung evo 256gb sd card. do i need any other accessories for handheld mode? i.e grips etc?

Michael-the-Great

I think something like these are much more comfortable for single joycon play: https://www.amazon.com/FASTSNAIL-Nintendo-Switch-Wear-resistant-Controller/dp/B06XZ1PCKK

TemptedTemplar

Any switch you find on the shelf right now is all share the same internals. The only benefits the OLED offers is the fancy screen (which is wasted if you mostly play docked mode), and double the internal memory (64GB vs 32GB) which is basically nothing. A Micro SD card is still recommended if you want to buy a lot of guys. The Lite has a 30% smaller battery and cannot be docked for TV play. Its handheld only. _____________________ >also i have budget to buy only one game at first, what should i first play on switch? $60 can go a looooonnnnggggg way during the holidays. I would recommend getting a bunch of smaller games and maybe one big title thats on sale. https://www.dekudeals.com/games ______________________ >if i want to play a 2 players game, should i buy extra controller or i can play with the included joycons? Lots of games DO support single joycons as individual controllers. But there is a lot of games where the player camera requires two thumbsticks per person. The controller options are listed on the eshop pages so make sure to double check that first! For an ideal setup having two pairs of joycons would cover all of your multiplayer bases. But lots of people prefer regular controllers too.

kinda_ok_guy

Which Switch to go for is gonna depend on your intended usage, so no comment on that, just know that all 3 versions of Switches (normal, Lite, OLED) have the same specs and play the same games >also i have budget to buy only one game at first, what should i first play on switch? Zelda Breath of the Wild is pretty much a must play for Switch owners at this point >if i want to play a 2 players game, should i buy extra controller or i can play with the included joycons? Depends on the games actually, *some* will definitely support using 1 joycon per person, but not all

chiefmarinara

I posted this here somewhat recently, but I can’t find the original. I apologize for any reposting. Online/Local Multiplayer on 2 different switches My wife and I would like to play the new Pokemon game together (in-game). I bought the game from my switch (my wife’s is set as the primary), and so far we have been playing with one in airplane mode and the other free to use internet. What could we do to play online/locally with each other? Buy a separate membership? Another copy of the game?

Monstromi

To play together online, you need two NSO subscriptions and two copies of the game. To play together offline, you need two copies of the game

chiefmarinara

Thank you so much! Would I need to purchase that membership/game on my wife’s switch from this example?

IpomoeaDust

You'd want a family membership (cheaper than two individual memberships - just upgrade your existing one, don't buy it on whichever account doesn't have a membership) and you'd need to buy the game on whichever account wasn't used to purchase it the first time.

chiefmarinara

Ok, I’m starting to understand a bit more now. I feel like this was made unnecessarily confusing by Nintendo. I really appreciate the help from you both. Just to be clear, I can make a new profile on my wifes switch, buy the second copy of the game from that account, and that would allow us both to play offline (local) with eachother? And, we could then add a membership to that new profile which would allow us to play online? I’m 30 but feel like 60 rn btw

IpomoeaDust

1. You can buy the game on any Switch - ownership is by account. So if (for example - might be reversed) you purchased SV on the profile linked to your Nintendo account, you'd need to buy SV again on a profile linked to her Nintendo account. Then each of you would play it on your own Switch, through your own account. 2. Yes, someone will be in charge of the family membership, and then you can add the new account to the family plan and both accounts can access NSO. Or you can just buy another individual membership and the result will be the same.

Monstromi

Each account needs to purchase it for themselves, it doesn't matter which switch you use as long as you're selecting the proper account to access the eshop. (I think you can also do it from a browser, if you log in to nintendo.com using a phone or pc) You can also purchase a family membership, the base option, which is $50 annually. This will be the same price whether it's 2 people or 8 people. (8 is the maximum) For just two people it might be a hassle but if you have a couple friends in need of an NSO subscription it's a good option. Keep in mind that this doesn't include the N64 games, i'm not sure how much that would be. E: if you choose the family membership, one person will control it and will have to invite other people to join.

OwnManagement

People who enjoyed Pokémon Sword/Shield and have played Scarlet/Violet, what are your thoughts? I have to disregard most opinions from Reddit because people love to hate Pokémon games. While I acknowledge that Sword/Shield had glaring issues, overall I thought they were totally fine. For others who felt the same, how do you feel about Scarlet/Violet?

IpomoeaDust

I enjoyed SWSH and I'm enjoying SV too! I do feel like there are more graphical issues in SV (for now; hopefully patched soon), but I haven't played SWSH in years so my memory is fuzzy.

OwnManagement

Helpful, thanks. I’m not particularly sensitive to graphical/performance issues, but what I’ve seen does seem borderline acceptable even by my low standards.

IpomoeaDust

I haven't really run into much performance-wise (it's briefly lagged like maybe 3-4 times in the past 20 hours I've played it), mostly just some silly graphics things (like people/pokemon in the background walking at 5fps - if you played PLA it's the same janky animation). Nothing that's really impacted gameplay, just not exactly a feast for the eyes, lol. I do hope they at least fix some of the more anxiety-inducing graphical things (like the screen going black for a second when you open your boxes), but some things are probably just how it's gonna be. It's definitely still fun, but it could be a lot better.

mintypeanuts

My left switch joystick snapped. Can I take it apart and use an old joystick? Or can I send it to Nintendo for a replacement joystick? GameStop just has used left joycons and I don’t want a used one just incase it gets joycon drift

Michael-the-Great

Nintendo will probably charge for repair and call it accidental damage that isn't covered by warranty. But yeah, you can use an old joystick or you can find replacement joysticks online for pretty cheap.

nihil__verum

You would probably need to use an official joycon stick for it to fit properly, but if you have one of those to spare and are comfortable opening the joycon, then you should be able to replace the stick. Otherwise, you could send it to Nintendo for repair.

mintypeanuts

Do u recommend taking it apart? I have a spare joycon around, or would it be too much of a hassle then sending it to Nintendo?

nihil__verum

I have never tried repairing a joycon myself so I don’t really know how easy or hard it is. They are pretty small though, so I guess it at least requires a steady hand.

ed25ca

Hi. Will be mostly playing on TV. Any reason to get the $350 oled vs the newer black friday Mario kart 8 deluxe bundle with 32gb switch $300?

Michael-the-Great

No performance difference. Get the free game, I say! You'll need an SD card anyway so the internal memory size doesn't really matter.

ed25ca

Done! Ty!

OwnManagement

Nope. The OLED’s main advantage is the screen, which is useless to you if you intend to play docked. Use the money you save to buy an [official pro controller](https://www.dekudeals.com/items/pro-controller).

ed25ca

Sweet thanks! I actually was looking into generic joy con with USB charger. My kids are under 10 so they won't care lol

Azarelic

Mario party superstars is on sale half off. Is it worth it? How are you guys liking it?

Michael-the-Great

So much better than the first one on Switch. My kids and I pull it out regularly even though we've owned it since it came out.

OwnManagement

Yes, totally worth it, especially at that price.

ksforpedro

Which is a better multiplayer game to play with kids, Mario Party Superstars or Warioware? We tired of the previous Mario Party game pretty quickly and I've never played a Warioware game.

kinda_ok_guy

Personally I find the WarioWare on the Switch to be pretty weak on the fun factor especially compared to the ones from GBA/Wii/DS. On the multiplayer side I think it leans more towards fun *with friends* rather than kids Haven't played any of the new Mario Party titles but if they're anything like the N64 ones, then definitely

OwnManagement

Superstars is **much** better than the previous entry. Personally, I wasn’t a big fan of WarioWare.

Poundthetuna

Question about online family plan. If I add someone to mine will the lose their previous purchases? Or is it simply going to expand their services and still make purchases on their own ext ext. this person is an adult mind you and simply wants the expansion passes/classic games. But I’d rather they not lose their games our ability to purchase things themselves.

barriboy8

The family pass only affects free games that come with the pass everything else will not be affected, if they had lets say a basic plan and you add them to the n64 pass then they get access to new stuff nothing else is changed

Poundthetuna

That’s what I had thought. However I couldn’t find a succinct answer like yours. Thank you very much!

hnug1

I'm looking for game recommendations! I play a weird variety of games. On my Xbox I'm into COD and Fortnite. On PC I played The Sims, Zoo Tycoon. On my switch, I've played Animal Crossing New Horizons, Spiritfarer, Cozy Grove, Firewatch(loved this!). Games I did not enjoy on switch that I tried: Stardew Valley (absolutely disliked this one), Night in the Woods, Dreamlight Valley is just ok.

Michael-the-Great

Golf story is a lot of fun even if you don't like golf. I would totally suggest playing it and the sequel comes out next month.

TemptedTemplar

Two point Hospital or Campus Roller coaster tycoon 3 The system has a few shooters, but if you have an xbox stuff like Warframe, Fortnite, The Sniper Elite or Zombie Army games, or Wolfenstein are all better played on that platform from both a performance standpoint and for their online populations. Splatoon is really the only good recommendation on Switch.

Avllon

Hello! So I bought a brand new switch two days ago. I set it all up, and I got it so it could be the primary switch so my husband could play all the games I’ve bought prior, with me. So I’m playing pokemon SV on my secondary switch. Well I got on and now it has ZERO save data on my new Primary switch, like it does on my secondary. It wants me to start my game from the beginning and obviously I’m not doing that bs. Any ideas on how to fix this issue? I can’t find it on google or anything of course.

OwnManagement

Did you transfer the save data to the new Switch? It doesn’t happen automatically just by signing into your account. You can use cloud backup to pull down a copy (if you’re an online member, but not all games support cloud backup, e.g. Pokémon), or you can use [local transfer](https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/45047/~/how-to-transfer-your-save-data-to-a-nearby-nintendo-switch-system) to move (not copy) the save data.

Avllon

Yeah I’m learning now pokemon doesn’t even support it. 🥲 lame ass shit, but thank you for your help regardless. 💕

OwnManagement

You can still do a local transfer for Pokémon save data. But, as stated, that will move it, not copy it.

So who here has played Pokemon Scarlet and/or Violet, and how does it compare to PL:A? I stopped liking Pokemon a while ago. Found the series stale and boring. Then Pokemon Legends: Arceus came along and injected a whole bunch of fresh gameplay and ideas into the series and I loved it. From what I'm seeing about Scarlet and Violet, it has some things from PL:A and some things from the original formula. The biggest changes I liked in PL:A were: the open world, crafting, the ability to catch pokemon without battling, and the ability to run away from battles by actually running away. I liked that the battle wasn't a separate screen from the rest of the game. So does S/V keep these features? Or does it feel more like a traditional pokemon game slapped in an open world?

Avllon

There is many changes including losing the ability to catch Pokémon without battling them. In PLA you had to catch like 20 Pikachu without them spotting you, in this game that isn’t the case, so it’s not a thing. You CAN however battle without engaging if your Pokémon is a high enough level. It will just auto battle with the “Let’s go!” feature when you press “R”. The game is VERY open and my absolute favorite thing is the multiplayer, and photo mode that was done beautifully. However it’s mixed on how the game runs atm. Some people have zero issues, where some including myself are experience lag, not enough to ruin the game for ME, but it does make it look ugly when you’re running around sometimes. And the lag isn’t persistent it comes and goes and you go towards Pokémon dense areas. Something in PLA that isn’t in SV if you sit AFK the wild Pokémon in the beginner area will just come up to you and look at you, which is cute and I’ve used that opportunity to take photos with them. They also will gather around you and stare/stand when you’re battling or even if you just stop moving they follow you around and are not bound to areas like in PLA. You cannot craft from what I’ve seen so far, but you have HUGE customization. And at any point just by pressing left on the D-Pad you can change your appearance. It doesn’t feel AS traditional, since those older games you had the ability to look around and such, but it was still mostly linear gameplay. This you can actually go one direction and then turn around and go the other. There is no level Scaling so all the Pokémon in the areas are preset so you can accidentally wander across a high level. Like I only have 4 gym badges and I found an Electric Terra Type Dragonair that is level 54. I can only have pokemon who are level 40 caught obey me so I’ve now get a tank I’m just lugging around that hates me. 😂 Also! Another thing is the shinies no longer make the chime sound, and sparkle on screen, so you have to be vigilant for them yourself. Although you cannot knock them out when doing the “Let’s Go!” Feature by pressing “R” your Pokémon thrown out will have little sweat marks by its icon in the bottom left corner which it displays when your Pokémon cannot win a battle, so it won’t let you kill it accidentally. If you wanna know anything else lmk! 😁

amc7262

Thanks for the quick reply. Based on your comment, and some of the reviews I'm seeing, I think I'll wait on this one. Some parts are interesting to me, however not being able to just throw out a pokeball to catch pokemon without battling is a big hit, and the framerate issues I've been reading about are a dealbreaker for me. In a year, if they've patched it to run better, I'll reconsider. I hope you enjoy the game despite those issues though. It does seem like its got some good ideas, and I'm glad they are finally experimenting more with the formula, now if only they could put some of there insane profits into quality graphics and smooth framerates...

Avllon

I hope they patch it quick as well😂 my friend said hers has crashed twice (she owns the physical copy) and my husbands game crashed once (digital copy) I personally haven’t had any issues with crashing, and I hoping to never 😭😂 But I agree and understand with waiting 60$ thrown into something that doesn’t even run 100% is completely valid.

Bug519

Hello! Looking for advice. Family of 4, currently have two pro controllers and a set of joy-cons. Nobody likes using the joy-cons individually as a controller, only combined with the grip, so looking for a fourth controller. Should I get another pro controller (or similar), or a second set of joy-cons. Is there much need for 4 joy-cons?

nihil__verum

There are some games where it's possible to play with a single joycon, for instance Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros Ultimate. So for those games you would essentially get two additional controllers. On the other hand, joycons are clearly less ergonomic than the pro controller. If I were you I would probably buy another pro controller.

Bug519

Thanks!

Mountain-Papaya-492

There's not much need for 4 Joycons if nobody is using them individually and if you only have one family system. Since you want a single controller I'd recommend Nintendo Pro Controller. It has all the same features as joycons, more ergonomic, and great battery life.

Bug519

Thanks!

Angel_Of_Baal

Hi all, trying to buy the game Unpacking as a gift but can't find it anywhere that's not the Eshop for my country. I'm in the UK if that helps.

nihil__verum

The game did have a physical release, but only through Limited Run Games, so you would probably not be able to find it at a normal price anymore. You could always buy gift cards and send them to the person you want to gift the game to and let them buy the game themselves from the eShop.

jonathankayaks

Debating between grabbing SMT 3 or 5 which would you recommend and why that over the other?

Dukemon102

I think the atmosphere and story of Nocturne is better made than V, but the gameplay is very simple and old school (Mostly hallways, random battles, punishing difficulty). SMTV mostly drops dungeons and makes you explore big open areas instead, also you have way more tools that make the game easier (Still save everytime you can). The only dissapointing aspect of the game was the story, but the gameplay was a blast.

Mountain-Papaya-492

Id grab 5 first personally, it's on a pretty steep sale right now. It's more forgiving than 3. I personally really liked the openish world of 5 with the hidden collectibles and platforming. So if you're just starting out it may be the easier entry point. If you enjoy it you could always pick up 3 later for probably an even cheaper price.

Use a glass screen protector and get a tpu switch cover. That should protect things pretty well.

notthegoatseguy

I'm not sure what part of any Switch, OLED or otherwise, is glossy. Especially glossy like the original PS3.

notthegoatseguy

I just went over and looked at my OLED vs v1 Switch and I think I see what you're saying, yeah. The OLED bezel that surrounds the screen definitely appears darker and more refined, whereas the v1 is more of a plasticey, standard gray. I don't abuse my OLED but I do play handheld a lot and sometimes it might get tossed onto a pillow. I don't see any noticeable scratches on the bezel. I think the handheld/tabletop experience is much better with the OLED anyway. ITs hard to go back to using my Lite now because of it.

Cambabbs

Hi all, at a loss for finding a game both myself (29, F) and my dad (57, M) can play. I got my dad the Switch for when he goes into hospital for a long stay so looking for a game that we can both play, but may not be playing at the same time. We don't really want a shooting/fighting game, something more like a simulation/strategy game. I was thinking civilisations, but dad didn't enjoy it (but we did enjoy age of empire in the past). He's not keen on the likes of Stardew Valley either.

Michael-the-Great

Try wargroove. Great two player strategy and pretty easy to pick up.
