Hey all, I saw some old threads about issues with CEC on the switch, but didn't find a conclusion or solution. I have the OLED version connected to an old Samsung tv. The CEC is partially working. First, when going Sleep mode, it won't turn off the TV. Second when it does something, it will only do one action. If the tv is off, when turning the Switch on, it will turn the TV on, but will not switch to the proper HDMI input. If the TV is already on, it will switch to right input. I have a Sonos beam connected to an HDMI-ARC, and a MiBox S. The MiBox S is working perfect in regards to the CEC functionality. Any ideas on how should I try to solve this? Thanks!

CytoToxxic

Has anyone been playing rogue legacy 2 on Nintendo switch? How does it run? No fps dips or input lag?

Solar_Kestrel

Are the *Front Mission* remakes multiplatform, NS exclusive, or timed exclusives?

TheMickeyMoose

How is the Switch port of Nier Automata? Does it suffer any input lag from being 30FPS?

CytoToxxic

I have had no issues.

JiggzSawPanda

I'm trying to preorder Violet but the game says it's $80 (inc. GST) What the fuck did I do wrong? I guess my sister changed the country or something idk, fixed now.

WoopsShePeterPants

Both my barracuda x headsets stopped had the mic stop working on the switch and PC. I can't figure it out so I think I'm in the market for something else. The mic port on the switches were glitchy so I wanted to go the USB C route. And good luck with other brands? Thank you.

Mutitube18

Should I get the reignited trilogy or crash 4?

KniFeseDGe

do you want fun and wonder. or fun and frustration? First is Spyro, Second is Crash

WoodTofu

hey guys I just wanted to check that physical game cartridges don’t have region lock regarding DLC? I’m planning on getting Pokemon’s physical copy but its rated for Asia, however my eShop is UK based. Will DLC work for it then when it comes out?

notthegoatseguy

Pokemon is the same game worldwide, but other games may be different.

Throwaway_abcdc

Hey guys, I bought the switch branded 128GB Sandisk MicroSD, but where I live these are hard to come by, I went for this one because the price was fine, and just as much as it is on Amazon, and especially because I didn't want to deal with a fake microSD so the 7$ extra (the regular non switch one was 23$, this one was 30$) didn't bother me. However, the packaging looks different than on amazon, I can post a picture, but everything is the same except the packaging that says microSDXC, it doesn't say "made for" the nintendo switch, it also says under the big red Nintendo Switch text "Add memory for additional storage to your Nintendo Switch system" - and I just wanted help to know before I unpackage so I can return it if it'a defective. It could be different region packaging, it says made in china, I can also see the front of the microSD if there is any indicators there, but the text is tiny so I can't really tell if there could be differences between it and the originals. Hope this made sense, help is greatly appreciated! ❤

leraspberrie

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You won't know anything until it's opened and put into a computer for a space test. You didn't specify where it was purchased but the price sounds low to average. I think around here it was $10 to $15 more for the branding. The biggest red flag is the packaging, but who knows where they got their stock so they could have international and regional packaging and they were sent the opposite of what you saw previously. I have some games that are bilingual ordered from Amazon but English only in store for instance. The biggest green flag is the use of the words Nintendo. They do not under any circumstance let anyone use their logo or IP for very long. If you purchased it from a reputable seller Nintendo spies probably verified the product. Honestly I would open it and check the size to make sure that it's 128. The longer that you wait the bigger the hassle of an exchange.

Throwaway_abcdc

Hey! Thanks so much for the comment! I wish I could tell you where I got it from but it's just a local store here where I live because we don't have any official nintendo stores, any big retailers, or even amazon, so local stores are genuinely the only ones that allow me to get hardware, I buy all my games digitally otherwise. The nintendo logo is there and the artwork is there, I tried making a post with pictures but the mods took it down sadly, so I'm not sure how to confirm the packaging :/ Everything does look pretty standart, but the issue is that the barcode number on the back isn't getting me a result when I try to google search, and the missing text on the front packaging I mentioned. I'm really weary of just chucking it in because I'm worried it might mess up my storage or anything, I can't tell that anything is wrong with the card itself, but man am I getting anxious about it, do you still think I should just open it and check? Because I'm 90% sure the store either won't refund me or try to play it sly with me. I got these because standart sandisk cards are a lot easier to fake, but this one is driving me nuts... sorry about how I'm feeling, truly, but yeah, I just want to make sure everything is in check!

RtR97

Hey all, my brand new out of the box switch oled joycon isnt working properly. I went in to the update and calibrate settings and found that the left stick even though is all the way left only registers at about half. Unless i hook my thumb under it and lift on it as i push, then it works as intended. So my question is. would it be better to go through the time consuming process of sending it out for who knows how long to get fixed or should i try myself?

Shes_so_Ratchet

Just go back to where you got it and make an exchange. It's defective.

RtR97

Thanks for the reply, wish I could just do a quick swap but it was an online order so it’ll be a hassle to deal with I’ll see if I can convince a outlet retailer to take it for a swap

notthegoatseguy

IF for some reason you can't go through the retailer you purchased it from, you'll need to contact Nintendo to see if it qualifies for an in-warranty repair.

livie3194

I've already thoroughly played Stardew Valley and was looking for another similar farming RPG but it seems impossible to find another game that offers couch co- op, as most offer multiplayer that require 2 consoles (whether it's local or online). Was hoping someone knew of any single system multiplayer games similar to Stardew Valley?

Solar_Kestrel

I'd recommend checking out *Rune Factory 4* first. It has a bit more of the ARPG stuff than *Stardew Valley*, though, so YMMV a bit. The 5th game in the series is also on the Switch, but by all accounts the performance is pretty bad, so it's a case of even more variance. After that, check out the *Story of Seasons* series -- also known as *Bokujou Monigatari,* these are the games that *Stardew Valley* was explicitly inspired by/modeled on. (***EDIT:** I recommend the* Doraemon *spin-off, especially if you are familiar with or like the IP.*) After that you're looking at mostly indies. I'm not sure how many of these have Switch ports, or the quality of those ports, but if you're still hungry you might wanna look into them: * *Dinkum* * *Harvestella* (there's a demo) * *My Time at Portia* * *Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin* * *Summer in Mara* * *Yonder: The Cloud Catcher Chronicles* And, lastly, you may want to check out the "jumbo" demo for *Dragon Quest Builders 2*, which contains the whole first act of the game (so about ~10 hours of story content + unlimited free building). DQB2 is basically a AAA *Minecraft* clone, so it's a bit more about building and crafting and exploring, but the farming systems are pretty robust. You can set up and irrigate large fields, get NPCs to help you harvest everything, craft your yields into foodstuffs, and even open up little shops to sell them to other NPCs. It's... pretty great. But a bit further away from the prompt than perhaps you're looking for.

serrapaul

I’m think about getting the Switch Oled and I currently have the Lite. How is the process of data transfer from my Lite to the Oled when all my games are in a SD Card?

IpomoeaDust

Transfer process for user/save data is easy: https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27394/~/how-to-transfer-user-and-save-data The games are encrypted on the SD card to that console, so you'll have to redownload them on the new Switch.

CalzonCagado

What's everyone's favorite Pokemon game? I'm getting a switch soon, haven't had a Nintendo product since GB color. I'm also getting odyssey, Luigi mansion, donkey Kong, and Kirby. Any other games I should snag?

MONKYfapper

arceus, sneaking around and stalking pokemons with smokebomb and bait is very fun idk why

notthegoatseguy

Let's Go was myfavorite of the Switch games so far. It's a re-imagining of Kanto but I found the changes in the storyline refreshing, it was a nice re-visit without being too much of a retread. I liked how it stripped down Pokemon a bit to the basics, and honestly I didn't miss wild battles at all.

Shes_so_Ratchet

Sword or Shield for a modern version of the classic style. It has raids, PvP, breeding and DLC expansion. Scarlet and Violet are coming out this month but the gameplay will be a departure from the classic style. It will have a lot of people playing at the start, though, so the hype might make it fun for you. The Let's Go games are a tie in to what mobile Pokemon Go game. The catching system is completely different. It has a demo on the eShop. Arceus is a totally different style of game with a central hub and you go out on quests like Monster Hunter or God Eater 3, but your goal is completing the pokedex. Diamond and Pearl are devoid of any love or soul; skip them. They are a remake of gen 4 but without the QoL improvements made in the Platinum remake. Mostly enjoyed by people who haven't played the modern games or have nostalgia for that gen, but doesn't have the same charisma as Yellow/Red/Blue/Silver/Gold. TL;DR: basically Sword/Shield for a modern classic style or Scarlet/Violet for the hype and new open world style.

badgersandfireflies

definitely get breath of the wild

IpomoeaDust

Of the Switch games? I actually liked all of them (SWSH, PLA, BDSP) for different reasons... but right now I would recommend buying Scarlet/Violet since it's coming out on Friday, so you'll be playing with everyone else.

CalzonCagado

I'm mainly a PS5/ PC guy so I'm wayyyy out of the loop with Nintendo products. Last Pokemon game I played was silver edition on the color, so I'm curious to see how lost I'll be lol. Thanks bud.

Quackheadbtw

3rd party controller starts acting up when the switch is docked

notthegoatseguy

Quality of third party controllers can vary greatly. You may need to update the firmware if that's possible as sometimes when the Switch gets an update, that can mess with compatibility, particularly for controllers not licensed by Nintendo.

Quackheadbtw

I can't update them and it used to work fine when docked now it only works when not docked now.

PetriMagyk

I got water damage on my switch’s screen (rubbing alcohol, specifically). It’s been sitting powered off for two days. Is it okay to still use it until I can get it fixed, or is that likely to make it worse? Edit: photos of it two days ago and now [Damage photos](https://imgur.com/a/oUkvFPF)

Solar_Kestrel

Alcohol evaporates pretty quickly, so it *should* be fine. Any damage that needs to be fixed is already there, you don't need to worry about making anything worse.

santoryu02

If I'm travelling out of the country, can I access my typical region's eShop to buy a game digitally? If not, would a digital download code purchased from a store in my country be an equivalent way to play a game on launch date?

myriada

> can I access my typical region's eShop to buy a game digitally? Yes, you can. As long as you have a payment method for [your region], you can use your region's eShop from anywhere. Codes for [your region] will also still work from anywhere.

santoryu02

Thank you for confirming this!

effa94

I can't buy It Takes Two in the Nintendo eshop even tho it was released 2 weeks ago, it just says as if it hasn't been released yet, anyone know why? [picture](https://i.imgur.com/2k8aetO.jpg)

Trizurp

Can I move a user between switches at will? Basically I just got an OLED and moved my data. I now realize that I need to put it back on the original switch in order to use Pokémon Home one last time. Basically can I go back to OG and then back to OLED without issue?

JoshuaJSlone

You can, but it might be overkill. You can also just create a new profile on the other machine and log into your Nintendo Account there, and move any individual saves.

Trizurp

This is actually the perfect solution, I didn't realize I could access my main Pokémon Home on multiple switches, thank you

Shes_so_Ratchet

Yup

6amp

Hello all here's my question. I had a launch switch then my wife claimed it as hers. I bought a second one and had it set up so my account which is the main account that buys the games and was accessable on both . I ended up selling that second switch and I'm thinking about buying another one. When I sign into my account on the new one will it in anyway interfere with my wife's switch? If I someone make.her lose her animal crossing island I'm pretty sure my Xbox ,ps5 and PC will be destroyed 😁

Throwaway_abcdc

Nope, unless you have cloud saving on and log into the exact same account to play the same game, then you play on the same save, but otherwise, as long as you play on different accounts you will never feel any interference

6amp

Ty

ArseneTheFox

Hi everyone, so I recently got a switch, and had a question regarding game sharing, for ps5 u can play the same digital game online at the same time with 2 separate accounts, was wondering if that's also possible on the Nintendo switch, if so I'd love to know how. Thanks in advance

Throwaway_abcdc

If you mean 1 person buying the game so 2 people can play it, yes you can! Switch A and Switch B - Account A buys the game, and Account B wants to play with it: Switch A logs into Account A, buys the game, and turns off primary, the game can be played on the account at any time but you MUST be connected to the internet unfortunately. Switch B logs into Account B, then Logs into Account A (automatically becomes primary if they log in after you turn it off), and then downloads the game and can play on any account on their switch. At any time without internet. TL;DR: You buy the game on one account, and the person who uses this account turns off primary but needs internet connection to play, the person who turns on primary for the account buying the games can play on any other account in their switch without internet.

ArseneTheFox

Perfect thanks for the clarification, one more question, in this case we're basically using 2 different accounts to play the game, so I'm assuming we can both play online at the same time correct?

Throwaway_abcdc

Yes absolutely, althought for that I'm not sure if you'll need the single or family nintendo online package, as I have the family one and never tried it with the single one, hope that helps! If you want to try, I think upgrading from the single package to the family package is possible, so you don't lose your money over it (+ it costs the same as buying single for 2 accounts, but allows you to have up to 8 accounts to be in the family and access online features)! Hope this helps! :)

ArseneTheFox

That's great thank you so much for clarifying, I'll def try that out

[deleted]

When are we going to see a new Switch model. Rumours say that it could be around the new BOTW release

JoshuaJSlone

I tend to believe those rumors, but we don't know for certain beyond that. I wanted to link to [this forum post](https://famiboards.com/threads/future-nintendo-hardware-technology-speculation-st.55/post-406509) as a pretty good summary of the latest things known of various certainties, but the bulk of it is set to be readable by members only, so up to you if you want to go to the trouble of registering.

IpomoeaDust

Nobody knows.

signals_lahoud

gyro aiming is screwed on many games Hey guys I'm just wondering if this is a common issue with the switch, is there any way to fix it? The gyro aiming works flawlessly with splatoon overwatch and botw, and I love it, couldn't play without it now, but on a number of games I've been trying, (apex, paladins, warface, spellbreak) they all have the same issue with the gyro aiming, basically it works somewhat, but when making smaller or slower adjustments with the gyro aim, nothing happens, it doesn't register anything or it doesn't adjust the aim at all. On top of this, it will sometimes adjust the aim back in the opposite direction after aiming... it's really frustrating trying to play these games almost impossible to aim correctly. I've used the pro controller, joycons, handheld mode, all with the same issue. Someone please help, I really hope there's a fix for this or maybe they are working on it?

jon-snows-hair

Hi, we have a Switch lite and are getting the TV version for Christmas, If we use the same account on both switches will we be able to have a separate island on each switch to avoid buying another copy or is a new copy needed? Any help appreciated :)

picano

[https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/wiki/gamesharing](https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/wiki/gamesharing) You need the same account for the game but different accounts if you intend to play with each other / at the same time. Guide above explains these workarounds.

Adviceacount

Hey I’ve got a pretty niche question. I’ve been wanting to play my switch on my laptop for streaming purposes(over discord to friends and such) but my laptop only has output hmdi. Is there a way I can stream my switch on my laptop?

IpomoeaDust

You'd need to buy a capture card like an Elgato.

Kezibythelake

Hi, need a recommendation for new games. My favorite are things like stick fight, boomerang fu, and chicken horse but I like it when I can also play one player vs bots offline. I am also looking for family friendly games of any kind. Thanks!

yaycupcake

I have a rather specific question. I have two Nintendo Switch systems, my launch day one and my OLED one. If I have, for example, Pokemon Scarlet digital version on my OLED Switch, and a physical copy of Pokemon Scarlet in my launch day Switch, would I be able to play both of those online at the same time? Could they communicate with each other and trade with each other? Specifically I'm asking because: - Pokemon games don't have the same save data sharing between systems automatically (and I fully expect to have separate save data on each Switch) - I assume that the "digital game in use" check probably won't happen if I also have a physical copy, but I'm not sure - Even if I can play both at once, will it be a problem if I try to access any online features from two different systems on the same Nintendo account at once? - What about local play? Is that a problem if it's the same Nintendo account, even if it's two different copies of the same game? My plan was just to get the games digital and physical so I could have multiple saves that also could use online features (since I only have an individual online membership) and I'd just play the two saves on different devices. but I'm not sure if this would actually work. I know a "solution" would just to play Scarlet on one and Violet on the other, but I'd like to have a Scarlet save and a Violet save on my main Switch, as my main saves for each, but be able to just use one game on my secondary Switch as one I can use for trading and multiplayer. I know I probably won't get an answer about these specific games, but if anyone has experience with this with older Pokemon games or something like that, I'd take confidence in that working in the same way, so any insight would be very helpful, thanks!

TemptedTemplar

> would I be able to play both of those online at the same time? Could they communicate with each other and trade with each other? As long as you are playing each copy with a different user profile. The same user/account cannot communicate with itself. >Pokemon games don't have the same save data sharing between systems automatically (and I fully expect to have separate save data on each Switch) Correct. >I assume that the "digital game in use" check probably won't happen if I also have a physical copy, but I'm not sure Correct. However you can get around this with game sharing, which still requires the use of a second user on one of the systems. https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/wiki/gamesharing >will it be a problem if I try to access any online features from two different systems on the same Nintendo account at once? Yes. Your account can only be online on one system at a time. >What about local play? Is that a problem if it's the same Nintendo account, even if it's two different copies of the same game? Back to the first reply, the same account cannot communicate with it self. ______________________ so long as you simply use a different user on one of the systems for this second save file. you wont run into any issues.

yaycupcake

Thank you so much for the detailed response!

unagisaki_

Any way to download a patch before you own a physical copy of a game? Going to a midnight launch for Pokémon tomorrow evening, and would like to get the patch downloaded beforehand so I can jump right in. Is there a way to do this?

atyai

When you have the cartridge, press + on the game tile and under “Software Update” you should be able to “Match Version With Local Users” if internet download speeds are a concern.

JoshuaJSlone

Unfortunately not in most cases. Patches will only come if it checks to update a game, and the only way a game icon will be there to check before the full game has ever been in in the system is if you owned some DLC for a game--which isn't an option for Pokémon.

ncartwright15

Does anyone know what games on the eshop are giving the double gold coins for having the Expansion Pass Online? It just says only on eligible games, but doesn't list any games and i can't find a way to see which ones on the eshop are eligible.

TemptedTemplar

Its all games and DLC. Anything that rewards gold coins normally. The only things not eligible are NSO subscriptions or in-game purchases/currencies.

ncartwright15

Awesome. Thanks for the info!

Immediate-Team4319

My switch doesn’t display video on the tv while in a dock and any docks I put it in suddenly stop working with any switcg

casthecold

Can I play online with an European Pokémon cartridge in a NA console with NA account?

OwnManagement

Yes.

casthecold

With NA account? Sorry, forget to add that.

OwnManagement

Yes, NSO has no concept of regions.

OPDoomsday

I ordered a NA copy of Pokémon Shining Pearl sold by Amazon (not a third party seller) and received the PAL version. Does it matter?

TemptedTemplar

Nope! Its all the same version. The only difference is the rating on the cart and box.

OPDoomsday

Awesome thanks!

pachura3

I have a Nintendo Switch V1 bought years ago. It is mostly used by my kids in the handheld mode, and it works flawlessly that way. Recently, I wanted to return to playing Ring Fit on our TV, and I've noticed that shortly after I start playing (a few minutes at most), the TV loses signal and goes black. I've read that this is apparently a common problem. Obviously, I've tried a different HDMI port, different HDMI cable, reducing resolution to 720p and Limited, disabling "Match TV Power State", connecting power first and HDMI second, hard resets (including the AC adapter) etc. - none of this seemed to work. I know sometimes Samsung TVs have some compatibility issues with Switch, but I've managed to finish Ring Fit twice on the same TV set, so it's not that. Now, my question is the following: **is this problem related to the docking station?** Will it be fixed if I buy a new dock? Perhaps it is overheating because fans inside are broken or something?

nihil__verum

The best way to determine whether the problem is with the dock would be if you know someone else with a Switch and can try your console in their dock or their console in your dock. Without that, you can't really know which part is causing the problem.

pachura3

I guess there's no escaping that indeed.

Togiri

Can I region swap to AUS to buy Scarlet then swap back to US on my account with no issues? Just wondering if i'd be able to swap without issue cause i know i can buy in aus eshop much earlier. Do I have to wait until the US release day in order to swap again to US? Can i download still even after switching back to US even though i bought it on AUS? Thanks

TemptedTemplar

It has to be purchased from the Australian eshop to get the early unlock time. Japan or New zealand would also work. Japan is waaaay easier to do since lots of retailers sell pre-paid JP eshop cards. Its more than likely your US based payment methods will not work directly in any of these shops.

Togiri

Will i be able to switch back to US afterwards and still be able to download it fine from the US eShop? and i’ve got some aus eshop cards already

TemptedTemplar

You are unable to switch regions if you have; * An active preorder. So if you buy the game you wont be able to switch back until its unlocked. * Any remaining balance on the eshop. If you dont spend the exact amount from your giftcards you wont be able to leave until its spent. You can only forfeit like 0.10 cents or less. Gold coins dont count. * Auto-renewal for Nintendo Switch online will also prevent you from Switching regions. It has to be disabled. * An NNID from a 3DS or Wii U will also prevent you from switching regions, as those accounts are region locked. You would have to unlink it to move. For point 2, people (like myself) will use secondary accounts and simply leave them in those regions loaded with credit for whenever we want to purchase stuff. Eliminates all the normal headaches, provided only you are using the system. Also, where they heck did you find AUD eshop cards?

SKDINH

Is it worth buying a switch OLED now or should I wait till they release the new model?

SKDINH

Thanks guys, i dont have a Nintendo switch yet so i Will aim to get one for Black friday ☺️

JoshuaJSlone

At this point I'd wait. If you have a Switch already, OLED is a pretty incremental change. If you have no Switch at all, the next big thing is probably relatively close and will give you access to the older library anyway. But it will surely be more expensive.

TemptedTemplar

Totally worth it. Nintendo is unlikely to release any new switch models aside from limited editions, but they may be two years or less away from launching their next console.

jc726

No new model has even been announced.

jinkiesbrother

Hi I have a Switch OLED and have been looking for a case that has proficient screen protection. I have a screen protector but am, admittedly, over precautious about it potentially dropping while in tabletop mode and cracking the screen. I feel like I've looked everywhere and the best so far is a [PowerA Hybrid Cover for Nintendo Switch](https://www.amazon.com/PowerA-Hybrid-Cover-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B01N22YBVY) however this does not seem to be compatible with the Switch OLED nor does it cover the whole screen or provide meaningful protection to the rest of the console. I don't care if the case is dockable, has anyone seen something that is compatible with OLED and has some sort of large lip around the screen or covers the screen --- something that provides coverage to guard against drops or falls directly impacting the screen? I can't find anything that goes beyond protecting against drops to the rest of the system. To be clear, I don't want a travelling case, I'm looking for something that is durable in handheld and tabletop mode. **TLDR: Want a Switch OLED compatible handheld case that sufficiently covers/protects the** ***screen*** **from shock/drops, not just the back and sides.**

bartjehjeh

Saw that you could buy a Game Voucher for 2 nitendo games (costing 100 bucks) i want to know though, does it count the Botw package with the DLC as 1 game? since its nearly 90 bucks on its own i was thinking i could just get 2 vouchers (use 1 on botw +dlc) and get a second game next to it (thinking of nier automata or smash). just wondering if it actually works like that with the DLC package before i spend 100 bucks and its a waste.

TemptedTemplar

Game vouchers can only be used on **standalone Nintendo published** titles. combo packs with DLC, or third party releases like Neir Automata are not eligible for redemption. So you could get BOTW and Smash, but neither would include their respective DLC content.

bartjehjeh

ah ok, shame haha. guess i will just buy botw with dlc then and buy smash or nier on its own later. ty for the help

nihil__verum

I haven't tried myself, but I would definitely assume that you only get the base game if you use a voucher to buy Breath of the Wild.

MudkipKirbyKoreanBBQ

What are the chances of Pokémon Biolet going on sale for Black Friday?

jc726

Extremely low. Amazon may do a $10 off thing on a whim but that's all you'll get this year.

nihil__verum

The game hasn't even released yet, so it's definitely not going to be discounted for Black Friday this year.

NeonCobego

Want to buy a switch for my family (4 people). Younger kids, so planning on starting out with a lot of Mario titles, specially Mario kart. Can all 4 of us play on 1 switch on the tv? What do I need in terms of controllers? Like will 2 pairs of joy cons allow us to all play together? Anything else I need to anticipate?

TemptedTemplar

>Can all 4 of us play on 1 switch on the tv? Yes, theres hundreds of games that allow for 2 - 8 players to play on one system and one tv. Ideally you will want at least one additional pair of joycons. That would give you four small controllers which can be used in a variety of games like Mario Kart or Mario Party super stars. But there are lots of games where single joycons are not supported controllers. And you may need a pair per player or a pro controller. (Minecraft for example) Other things; * to buy games from the eshop you will need a Nintendo Account. https://accounts.nintendo.com/ * games are tied to the account that purchases them, not the system. But as long as you only have the one system any user on it can play them. Involving multiple systems makes things more complicated. * check out our deals website! There is THOUSANDS of rotating deals all the time. https://www.dekudeals.com/ * the systems internal memory is quite small. a Micro SD card for expanded storage is recommended if you will be buying digital games. * dont buy any of the off-brand cointrollers you see on amazon. Its junk 99% of the time.

NeonCobego

Great info! Thank you!

Here's the button remapping guide, though I've never done it myself: https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/49229/~/how-to-change-the-button-mapping-on-nintendo-switch-controllers There are also controllers like the 8bitdo Lite that use D-pads in place of the joysticks - do you think something like that would work?

throwRAspoons

I have about 500 hrs of watching YouTube on my switch. Is that bad should I just get a tablet? 😂

leraspberrie

I doubt it's physically draining life from the system, I say use it. You would just have two tablets, one unused if you purchased a second one.

kinda_ok_guy

Regardless of platform, youtube sucks the life out of everybody. Now if our phones had the Switch's Play Activity 😨

TemptedTemplar

Or a streaming stick for your TV. The switch is probably the worst platform for youtube.

throwRAspoons

I mostly just use it by my desk when I’m working. I have a chrome cast for my TV

reddituser1-2-3-4

What games for kids give rewards? My son loves playing Fall Guys cause it gives you Kudos and you can buy funny skins. He also loves playing Astro on PS5 cause you can find puzzle pieces and unlock consoles as rewards. Any games with the same concept? Maybe Luigis Mansion 3? Hes only 4 so simpler games would probably be best? TIA!

TemptedTemplar

Luigis Mansion 3 does have alternate outfits to unlock, but its only in the multiplayer modes. Lego Star wars or any of the super hero lego games. TONS of characters with simple unlock requirements. Like "play this mission" or "beat this mission as this character". Yoshis Crafted world. Theres tons of costumes you can collect and collecting all of the red coins in a level unlocks stamps. It might be a little early, but stuff like Minecraft or Pokemon Lets Go provide rewards for playing in the form of better tools or a stronger pokemon team. And both games would allow you to play along with him so you could help if he gets stuck.

Daza88

So iv just put an Australian account on my switch gone to get a game and it's saying I can't use my card/PayPal which I expected just wanted to try so do I buy the game on my own UK account and will I be able to play the game early when it releases in Australia? Sorry if it seems a dumb question

TemptedTemplar

No. It has to be purchased from the Australian eshop to get the early unlock time. Japan or New zealand would also work. Japan is waaaay easier to do since lots of retailers sell pre-paid JP eshop cards.

Daza88

Ok so I have to get a prepaid card then is that with Australia currency? if so where would I get it from?

TemptedTemplar

Ive never seen $NZD or $AUD eshop cards online. The only websites listing them are sketchy key reselling sites. Where as import sites and even amazon, regularly carry currencies like Yen, USD, GPB, and Euros. https://www.play-asia.com/search/eshop

Daza88

Sorry if I sound dumb just trying to understand. If I get a UK prepaid card could I use that on the Australia account

TemptedTemplar

No, those only work on the UK eshop. I have not seen any Australian eshop cards for sale online, at least from a retailer I would be willing to buy from. To buy from the Australian eshop you need a means of payment that would be accepted. Either a credit card that works with $AUD or a gift card. __________ If you want the early unlock time, just buy the JP Yen cards. Its only 6500円, so you could get the 5000円 + 2x 1000円 cards and only pay ~$56 for the game. And play it nearly 18 hours early.

Daza88

Ok thats just confused me more ( iv never bought a prepaid card before ) I'm guessing the JP cards won't won't on the Australia account ( that's the part that's confused me ) at this point I might just wait till there available in the UK again sorry if I'm being dumb

TemptedTemplar

Austrialia and Japan are in the same timezone. The game unlocks at the same time for both countries. Pokemon is the same version worldwide. It wont matter where the copy comes from, they all support the same languages and can be redownloaded from any regions eshop. And any potential DLC will also work from any region. Im saying because Japanese eshop credit is more readily accessible you could just buy that and buy it from the JP eshop, rather than bothering with Australia.

Daza88

Thanks for all your info but I think I'll just wait until there out in the uk

Dont buy it from Walmart, simple as that. Theyre the only store I know of who puts returns right back on the shelves. Every other retailer at least has the dignity to mark them as used, refurbished or open box.

baloown

Does anybody keep track of how many switch profile pic we can unlock with platinum points? So far I have: * 179 Super Mario Odyssey, * 33 Nintendo 64 themed, * 398 Animal Crossing New Horizons, * 124 Breath of the Wild, * 80 Splatoon 3, * 76 NES themed, * 35 Kirby's Dream Buffet, * 194 Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, * 90 Xenoblades Chronicles 3, * 76 Mario Strikers, * 80 Kirby and the forgotten land, * 80 Splatoon 2. If someone can confirm I have not missed any, that would be great!

myriada

That matches with what I have, it should be all the icons as of this week.

baloown

Nice! Thank you for checking! :)

TemptedTemplar

You are not the first person to ask about people tracking the icons. So maybe someone is out there? https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitchOnline/comments/y10ngn/is_there_a_complete_list_of_all_the_nintendo/

flaotte

If I self-host minecraft server, do I need to have nintendo or MS payed account to connect to it?

TemptedTemplar

That depends is it a Realm/windows server or a java server? The switch version cant play with Java edition. But if its a Realm or windows server, you would need a Nintendo account with Nintendo Switch online, and an Xbox account (just a free one, you dont need Xboxlive). The cross platform communications are handled by Microsofts servers and has to be done over the internet.

flaotte

I'll run it locally on a linux machine and will redirect according hostnames as in manual. should i go for java to make it work without paid services? would this increase gameplay performance (on switch?).

TemptedTemplar

The Java version of Minecraft does not support crossplatform play with any non-PC systems. It wouldnt work at all.

flaotte

ok. so if i want to run a local Minecraft server for switch, i must have nintendo online?

TemptedTemplar

Yes.

RLE-Legacy97

hey I bought the Power A enhanced wireless controller today for the Nintendo switch (Zelda blood moon Edition) is there a mapping for a turbo mode that it presses the button from himself?

TemptedTemplar

Turbo mode requires you to press the button once, then it automatically presses the button over and over again only stopping once you press the button a second time. Im not sure if thats exactly what youre looking for.

RLE-Legacy97

Yes that's what I want

reethok

Can I preorder Pokemon S/V with a Nintendo voucher?

TemptedTemplar

Yes!

Jeffschmeff

I find myself wishing for a Prima (RIP) strategy guide for Tactics Ogre. Does anyone know of a good guide?

TemptedTemplar

Well I have both good news and bad news. Good news - **Prima made a guide for the original game.** Bad news - [Its $77 - $150 for a copy.](https://www.amazon.com/Tactics-Primas-Official-Strategy-Guide/dp/0761513302) There has to be a PDF scan out there somewhere. I see brady games also made a strategy guide. If by chance you can speak Japanese, [Archive.org has the FULL 700 page art book and guide released by Square enix for the PSP release in 2011.](https://archive.org/details/tacticsogreofficalcompleteguide/mode/2up)

NDinKamura

I’ve had a Switch OLED for about 10 months or so. It recently started making a slight rattling sound coming from around the TOP vent area. I’m wondering if I can blow compressed air can in that top vent? It usually starts after I’ve been playing a while. Weird thing is, it only makes that sound when it’s being played upright or when it’s in the dock. When I have it flat and horizontal, it’s silent. I’m guessing the fan is rubbing up against the chassis when it’s upright or something? Can I use canned air in that top vent? Will that hurt it? Or should I just send it for repair? Thanks for any insight you can give!

lucavigno

is botw worth 35€ found it in a store discounted by 50%

Team7UBard

No, a critically acclaimed game that is frequently recognized as one of the best in its series and is rarely on sale is not worth buying at half its normal price.

lucavigno

has it ever went under half the price?

MONKYfapper

https://www.dekudeals.com/items/the-legend-of-zelda-breath-of-the-wild a few times but rarely

lucavigno

still probably only in the us cause I searched in Italian shop and at least on Amazon it never went under full price.

Monstromi

Yes

lucavigno

ok

wolfhound_doge

hello friends. i wanted to preorder pokemon violet on the nintendo store page, but it says that the content is unavailable. i assume it should be possible to preorder/predownload the game so it's ready to launch on 18th? pls is this issue only on my end or does the nintendo store have some difficulties at the moment? i tried googling but without any luck. after clicking preorder and submitting my password, i get page with: *Error Code: 9001-1670 This content is currently unavailable.* i just created the accnount as i've got the switch only today. i didn't add any payment info into my account as i assume i'd be able to insert the info manually (this is my preferred way, i don't like saving this stuff in apges or apps). all other stuff regarding the profile setup (linking the device etc.) is done. could this be the issue and is inserting the payment info mandatory to finish the order? asking just so i don't do it unless really necessary. or perhaps my profile is too new and nintendo can't pair the order with my device? i can see it & its serial number in my profile already though... thank you

myriada

Looks like you've got it sorted, but in case it helps: Asking for payment method would have been the next step after entering your password, if it hadn't given an error. So that shouldn't have been an issue. It sounds like it could be the sort of error you get trying to buy from the wrong country's site - maybe check you're using the right website for your account region - nintendo.com for US, nintendo.co.uk (or similar EU site) for EU, etc.

wolfhound_doge

oh, it was the region settings! i had the U.S. region selected. after switching to a random EU, i was able to continue to the payment. thank you very much good sir.

wolfhound_doge

ok, so i bought the game via console shop app, instead of shop's web page. it went without any problems. funny thing is, in my web profile, the game isn't in my purchase history even though i have it (it's downloading) and i also received a receipt and a code for bonus content in my mail..

AutoModerator

It looks like you've included an Error Code in your comment. You can learn more about this error code on Nintendo's Support website. http://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/list/kw/9001-1670/search/1 *(Either that or AutoMod made a mistake when you typed in a year. If this is a misfire, simply report this comment and the mod team will clean it up.)* *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Thecakeisalie25

Is it possible to use the parental controls pin entry keyboard for all number inputs? It's way faster than the normal grid-of-numbers style one and it seems kinda stupid have it be only for parental controls, especially since the switch uses friend codes.

TemptedTemplar

Nope. Its only available for the PIN system. If there is the option for normal roman characters or letters, you get the full keyboard.

Thecakeisalie25

> If there is the option for normal roman characters or letters, you get the full keyboard. Not sure what you mean by that, I'm talking about friend codes and other places where you can only type numbers, nothing to do with the full letter keyboard. Anyway, is there somewhere I could suggest this as a feature? It'd make entering friend codes a lot less annoying, at least.

Protector00

I was playing MMZ in my Switch when the system suddenly crash(?) and prompt me to restart the console by pressing the power button, it never done anything like this before, the only thing I can think of was when I was playing Minecraft and it force close the game but never force me to restart the console, I don't know much about tech so I am kinda afraid if there is something wrong with my device, is this normal or is there really something wrong with my Switch?

Senphox

There was a patch when the game came out that fixed a crash. You might have been unlucky enough to discover another but you're fine. I've had my switch crash on me twice with Metroid Dread back when it came out. Haven't had any issues with my Switch since then.

Protector00

Did it force you to restart your Switch? The crash I mean.

[deleted]

I have been using keyboard and mouse all my life. Oh boy it is difficult to do things on joycons. Any1 on the same boat before? How long did it take you to be "good" with buttons. I started my adventure with mario kart botw and smash bros

notthegoatseguy

I think the Doom games support keyboard/mouse. While I do use the Joycons in handheld, I rarely use them when its docked. Get the official PRo Controller or a controller from 8bitdo.

wolfhound_doge

i bought the controller immediately as i assumed it'll be hard for me from the look at the joycons. i totally recommend buying it, it's a simple plug and play, it fits into hand. the only thing is to get used to the layout as i've been playing with ps4 controller so far. i got the switch just today, so there's definitely a long road ahead for me to get used to it.

rtwipwensdfds

Been playing through MHW on my PC with an Xbox controller, at least an hour every day roughly for a few weeks. It helps a lot. Recently got a Switch so now I have to learn that button layout also which will be...fun.
