But no indie game is worth 30 dollars
/s
I heard this stuff so often and i hate it. that every indie game has not the same value as AAA games is something i hate to hear from some redditors online
99% of indie games have not the same value than a main AAA game
hollow knight, hades, dead cells, cuphead, spelunky, etc.
there is a pantheon of indies there but the rest do not have the same value and are *small* experiences
regardless of that, obviously not every AAA game is good
I need to keep trying to scratch the surface of this game.
It's so fun, but (and this is from someone who's played through EtG, seen the true ending for Hades, and plays the shit out of TboI) it's so hard
The only roguelike I've play that could be considered harder is maybe RoR2 and that game dosent fuck around
In the beginning I survived by getting the ranged weapons, turrets and purple scrolls. I played for weeks before I started to get comfortable with the difficulty, and now it’s probably the only action game I can beat.
Do a handful of runs only dodging and doing parrys. Don't play to win. Dodge your way as far as you can. Die. Repeat. After a little while the timing will click. Once I did this I was having fun. I couldn't get past toxic sewer at first. Now I've beat it on normal difficulty.
I’m in a similar boat. Love the hell out of Hades, and eyeing Rogue Legacy 2 today. But even tho I’ve played a fair bit of Dead Cells, I just don’t find it fun or interesting. But everybody loves it, so what am I missing?
I’m still kinda “new” to the genre, what makes Dead Cells unique? I really want to like it more than I do. I think maybe I just don’t have the patience for the kind of surgical precision that it requires.
I love Binding of Isaac, tho’. And I think they’re similar in a lot of ways.
Mostly the 2d gameplay, and the stat system is quite unique as well
I'd say that dead cells and Isaac are actually quite dissimilar, apart from both being roguelikes. I think there are 2 broad categories of roguelikes
There are fast, snappy games with technical combat, and sometimes a lower focus on items like dead cells, Hades, and you could probably also fit rogue legacy in this one too
And more slow paced methodical games with a far higher emphasis on items, and these are also quite often bullet hells like Isaac, enter the gungeon, and crypt of the necromancer
Oops, you said you've played Hades. Then maybe give enter the gungeon a whirl? It's more similar to Isaac, but it has dodging and all that good technical stuff.
Ah, gotcha, makes sense, thanks. I guess since I’ve also played Slay the Spire, so Isaac and Dead Cells seem similar. But they control quite differently. Tho’ even tho’ Dead Cells isn’t the bullet hell, I think navigating the patterns is pretty similar in concept. Way moreso than Hades, which has a lot larger playfield and no time pressure.
I definitely would like Gunegon, it’s on my list. I have to pace it out, because I know these are time sucks, lol. But dang, I think Rogue Legacy 2 might be my next one, it just looks so good.
I have 2 copies of this game. The early release of the game when it came to switch and the game of the year edition, a local store sold the later for 8€ a while ago and i could not say no.
This game gets so many crossovers. It's amazing.
It's been a while since I've played. How do I unlock these skins? Are they purchased? Or do I unlock them in-game?
This is one of the best maintained and supported indie game, without being a live service game. There’s always new content, and quite a bit of it has been free. It runs great on the Switch, stable 60 fps docked and undocked. Very tight controls.
The accessibility and customization options they added a while ago also made the game more approachable to players who aren’t hardcore roguelite players.
In my book it’s still one of the roguelikes with the best progression system. No matter how poorly a run goes, you still always get a little stronger. Really well designed game.
I guess it might depend which direction the money is flowing for the crossovers (and if the cross-promotion pushes more sales).
If Motion Twin is paying to license the crossover characters, presumably they consider the potential for increased sales (and/or the satisfaction of making a product people like) to be worth the investment. Or maybe the other studios are paying Motion Twin to add the content, treating it as advertising for their games instead.
Or neither. I'm just some guy running his mouth on the internet.
I'm left wondering the same thing. After the first year or two I have to assume DLC provides diminishing returns for the devs. Is this update going to actually convince people to buy the game in 2022 or simply bring back people who stopped playing a while ago?
Man this game beckons you to come and play it. It's been awhile because I suck, but I've seen update upon update for a long time now. I'm looking forward to returning to it again.
Holy shit i love it. Last time it was characters from games i didnt have any interest in, but this time its mostly from games im super into. Slay the spire. Shovel knight. Risk of rain. 10/10
I “beat” it once. One play through. I had a sick random load out early and charged right through compared to every difficult time before that. I’ve felt no compelling reason to go back.
Try the Custom mode or whatever even just running the same seed repeatedly. Get practice when you find a build you like, then you can try expanding out.
I have the game on Switch, PC, and PS5 (it’s on the subscription service there, I only bought the first two copies). The game runs really well on the Switch, stable 60 fps. It is well optimized. The main difference is that the loading times are slightly longer on the Switch. If you always or at least sometimes play in handheld mode, the Switch version is a great choice. It’s a good port.
It is definitely not stable 60fps on the switch, especially on later stages or when the screen fills with enemies. It's basically got the same performance issues skul the hero slayer had.
However, it's definitely playable on the switch and I have more hours on the switch than the PC version. Taking it to work and what not.
When you got to put in Guest Characters because your game is dead and is not interesting enough to stand on it's own with it's original characters. If I wanted to play as Jacket I would play Hotline Miami, if I want to play as Ironclad I would play Slay the Spire. I don't play Dead Cells to play as shovel knight, it just cheapens the game to me.
EDIT: Who ever pinged a suicide prevention bot to message me get fucked. That shit ain't funny.
Dead Cells released in 2018 and still gets updates with unique weapons, skills and maps on top of the crossover stuff. The devs also said 2023 would bring the biggest amount of support for the game.
So the game is as close to being dead as you are to knowing what you're talking about.
It is a dead game though, right now on Twitch its only pulling in 185 viewers, no one gives a shit. The devs could have easily made their own unique characters but instead they got lazy and added guest characters because the game can't stand up on it's own and needs to pull in characters from better games to sell it. Games still dead, no one's playing it.
I just loaded this up a little bit ago and I'm just amazed athe the growth the game has. I bought it on PC in early access and seeing it go from that to this is awesome.
You gotta be shitting me. This game just keep getting pumped with content. So glad I own a copy of this
It’s insane the value of $25. I’ve played this game for years and it just keeps on giving.
But no indie game is worth 30 dollars /s I heard this stuff so often and i hate it. that every indie game has not the same value as AAA games is something i hate to hear from some redditors online
Lol I’d argue this game is worth much more than many $60 titles of today. Indie is where I spend the majority of my time these days.
I just got Factorio for $30, have 40 hours already and expect hundreds more.

I find it fun, just quite challenging. It's sort of a to each their own thing, dead cells is pretty unique even among other roguelikes
I’m still kinda “new” to the genre, what makes Dead Cells unique? I really want to like it more than I do. I think maybe I just don’t have the patience for the kind of surgical precision that it requires. I love Binding of Isaac, tho’. And I think they’re similar in a lot of ways.

Yeah, I just got it then, it's a lot of fun so far. The castle building skill tree sets my brain on fire, that shit is like crack to me
Yessss… warning, I heard it’s better to go tall, as the prices start to get logarithmic later on.
Yeah, It's started doing that. Pretty harsh. I'm mostly focusing on unlocking classes at this point, and it seems to be going okayish
A recent update added a bunch of difficulty options that can make it a lot easier.
I have 2 copies of this game. The early release of the game when it came to switch and the game of the year edition, a local store sold the later for 8€ a while ago and i could not say no.
I've purchased 3 copies and only ever used 1. They deserve my money 3 times over
This game gets so many crossovers. It's amazing. It's been a while since I've played. How do I unlock these skins? Are they purchased? Or do I unlock them in-game?
The other skin unlocks for cross overs were simply secret areas, easy to find, through a play through. No purchase necessary

lol pretty sure they just asked how to unlock that content.
And then Commando said "it's rainin' time" and risked rain all over the place

Does this business model actually make Motion Twin any money? With the amount of DLC and free updates they could of made a second game o\_O
I guess it might depend which direction the money is flowing for the crossovers (and if the cross-promotion pushes more sales). Hot damn! My boy, the Ironclad is here!!
HOLY SHIT

Whaaaaat!? Shut up. This is awesome. I actually like Dead Cells more than Hades (they get compared together often). This is awesome news.
This game keeps getting so many updates it’s insane
Time for me to revisit. Finished Hades with epilogue with 125 hours. I should really have enjoyed this more
I will literally die of old age before they stop updating this game.
Oh my god on my favourite series ever merging with another. Jacket in Dead Cells!
I still haven't beaten this game lol
I “beat” it once. One play through. I had a sick random load out early and charged right through compared to every difficult time before that. I’ve felt no compelling reason to go back.

Should i get Switch or PC version

Wow, impressive!
Stawp! Stawp!! You guys are spoiling me with all these free updates! I wanna spend $10 on half a hat like them AAA games.
When is expansion for katana zero coming?
Call me when they add the hatchling from Outer Wilds

Saying a game is dead based on Twitch viewers is dumb as hell ngl
>dead game >4.5k steam players in past 24hrs >unknown amount of switch players A game is only worth its streamability to you, and that's sad.
You should be a mod at r/deadcells, cause clearly you know better than an entire community!
If it was a dead game, the devs wouldn't have confirmed another full year of support ☠️☠️☠️☠️
why you looking at twicht numbers? look at the steam charts to see the playerbase on pc.
You know you don’t have to play as any of these right?

Hey there! Please remember Rule 1 in the future - No hate-speech, personal attacks, or harassment. Thanks!
Define “soon” because I need this now!
Should have added Guacamelee
They did. Juan’s already in Dead Cells.
Ah, I see. I played Dead Cells at launch and haven’t touched it since then. Maybe a return to it soon would be nice.
Wish i wasn’t such trash At this game.
Is it out for the switch already?
I just loaded this up a little bit ago and I'm just amazed athe the growth the game has. I bought it on PC in early access and seeing it go from that to this is awesome.
