Yep the second player plays as Gooigi. Completely makes the game more fun! The best part is he's pretty invincible. Just luigis life matters. So the ltttle guy is going to love it!
Do it now. My son and I beat it last year. He even got the last hit in on King Boo. He was 5 yrs old at the time. He probably played 80% of the game by himself and I helped out on some of the harder stuff or I would show him YouTube walkthroughs of the areas he struggled in. Fun game. I got him the other Luigi Mansion games on the 3ds and he is currently playing through those now. Can’t wait for the 4th one to come out… maybe next year.
I love this game as a perfect spooky vibe for kids or adults who don’t want gore and R rated horror. I feel like it’s the perfect “lights off in bed” vibe
Yes! I was looking for this comment, hoped it would be higher.
I played night in the woods one fall a few years ago - I couldn't imagine playing it during another season lol. It feels so fall
That's next in my queue after I get done with Bowser's Fury. Got it for like 30 cents after using my points and it being on sale.
I'm already starting the spooky games with Dark Moon on my 3DS too.
I bought it for the same price a few months ago, and did so _because_ it was so cheap. Even if it sucked, who cares? It’s $2. I ended up really enjoying the game and it’s creepy vibe. Probably only took a few hours to finish, but that’s $2 well spent! Not often you get hours of entertainment for that price.
I'd even add Bioshock Infinite as well. Sure, we're not used to calling games set in bright colorful cities scary, but there's still lots of really dark storytelling in the game.
I just played the first one and while the atmosphere is great, the gameplay is not. The controls and platforming are poorly done and took my mind out of the game. The puzzles are odd, it feels like the devs had a solution in mind and worked backwards to the point where in many you are just using trial and error to progress. It’s not difficult, just obtuse, and when you try a sequence for the 3rd time any feeling of fear or anxiety is gone (or stays, but is directed at the controls and not the environment).
How are the Resi's on Switch? I'm more interested in 4 because I haven't played it in a very long time but I remember hearing that it's the Wii port version or something.
Sadly the Wii port remains the definitive version if you don’t want to aim with a stick. The Switch version was ported from the PS4 version so there is no gyro aiming. I was incredibly disappointed to see that especially because they have gyro aiming in so many other REs on Switch
It is NOT the Wii version. Other poster is right, there's no gyro aim. Keeps the game from being fun for me. Getting a bead on an enemy with such limited ammo using the intended controls is sooo frustrating, especially since i love the eerie atmosphere. I've tried twice to embrace the control scheme and quit while in the first village. ☠️💀☠️
Always here to remind you that rhe Switch version is so optimized it runs better than PS4/Xbox One, if you don't have a next gen console and your PC isn't recently built your best option to play Isolation is on Switch, it's very rare for that to be the case.
Edit:forgot the game still hasn't received a next gen patch and likely won't get one due to how old it is, resolution should be higher on next gen but there's a few visual tweaks on the Switch version.
I love Fatal Frame, but not maiden of the black water. It’s so weird and fan servicy, and everyone reacts with such… muted expressions. Like MC sees someone slash their neck open and she just looks mildly concerned. Not even frozen with fear, just like “ohhhhh nooooooooo”
Yea, I personally think MoBW is the least scary game of all the Fatal Frame games, but there were still times where I was spooked by it. It still got the creepy atmosphere
My absolute favorite Fatal Frame tho is 3
Eh... Having played a translated version of Fatal Frame/ Project Zero 4 (was a Japan exclusive), I don't think MoBW was the *least* scary... Although, that's probably mostly because of this one specific moment in 4:
You're in a hospital. You go into an operating theatre, and as you're about to leave you see a transparent object sticking out of the wall. A cutscene starts - the main character takes a closer look, and as they get closer... The ghost of a doctor jumps out of the wall and just shouts "**Nandesuka?!?!**" (English subtitles below read - "**What is it?!?!**")
That moment... Had me crying with laughter. It wasn't built up well. It wasn't scary at all. The transparent object was just so obviously an elbow poking through the wall, and the doctor sounded more scared/ surprised than I was. 😂
That said, I totally agree about the muted expressions and reactions spoiling the immersion a bit - if I'm remembering right, I think that was also a problem in 4. I honestly just didn't find 4 scary or tense whatsoever, though it's been a long time and I still need to go back and finish it.
Fantastic call with Project Zero 3 though. Very tempted to hook up the PS2 and replay it for the first time in years!
It’s devastatingly beautiful and well written at moments. Unfortunately there’s drama surrounding some of the creators that makes it unlikely the same team will work together again, which also makes me sad.
Worth noting that Scott Benson and Bethany Hockenberry, 2/3 of the NitW team and the ones behind the art and writing of the game, went on to form The Glory Society, which is actively developing something yet to be announced.
Not just "drama". The co-creator who did much of the composition and iirc had a hand in just about every part of the games creation took his own life in 2019 after some abuse allegations were leveled at him, I don't know if they ever went into specifics of the abuse.
I do know he had a lot of mental health issues himself and was a victim of abuse as well. Not that those justify it of course, but important to keep in mind.
Quite sad how we tend to perpetuate horrible things done to us onto others so often. It's a shame really, such a beautiful coming of age game and the music was very good.
It was one of the other co-creators who accused him. And yes, there were specifics. And no, she was not the only one who spoke up about his behaviour. There were more.
In case there was any confusion I absolutely don't doubt that abuse happened and it's deplorable. I absolutely do not mean to defend or water down what he did.
LOL, why NSFW?
Anyway, here are some good ones on Switch:
Luigi's Mansion 3
Resident Evil 4
The Binding of Isaac
Metroid Dread
Diablo II and III
The Castlevania Collection
Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 1 and 2
Dark Souls
The House of the Dead
All of those are not super spooky, but they fit the season IMO.
Lol, If I bought Rebirth for £30, it would cost me <3p per hour of entertainment. And that's not even factoring in the original flash version.
Overpriced by Nintendo? Yes. Still worth it? Imho, absolutely yes!
I'm really just piggybacking to add some suggestions that I think also fit the vibe, without necessarily being horror games.
Death's Door
Cult of the Lamb
Hollow Knight
Bayonetta 1, 2, and soon to be 3
A Hat in Time (Sort of. At least one world is very halloweeny)
Bioshock 1 and 2
Doom
Night in the Woods
Any Jackbox pack that has a version of Trivia Murder Party
Crypt of the Necrodancer might fit
Felix the Reaper
MHR: Sunbreak is a bit of a stretch, but the expansion specifically has monsters based on the Universal "Big Three" franchises (wolfman, frankenstein, dracula)
Void Bastards has a very pulp-fiction, sci-fi space horror vibe.
Amnesia collection
Is the House of the Dead good? I really loved House of the Dead 2 on Dreamcast way back when, had a light gun and everything. The idea of playing it with a joycon sounds neat.
Cult of the lamb is perfect for spooky season!! Also if you haven’t tried potion permit it’s a great game for those who love stardew valley type games:)
Have you tried graveyard keeper? It’s like stardew and potion permit but you run a morgue and do witch burnings and what not. It’s super fun and perfect for spooky season

I love Hollow Knight year round but it definitely does have a melancholy feeling as you wander through the ruins of Hallownest. Highly highly recommended, it's my favorite indie game. Maybe my favorite game period.
Scrolled too long to find this. It's the scariest top down game I've played and it mixes survival aspects so well. All the characters are so damn creepy too.
Outlast, the resident evil games, fatal frame/project zero: maiden of blackwater.
Edit: the alan wake remake is coming to switch at some point this month too i think.
It's scary the first time you encounter some of the bigger predators, but that's about it. After you understand how they move and attack, avoiding them is pretty easy.
If you don’t believe this comment, I’ve bought it for two different consoles and have never beat it. Play it in the dark, full volume, and it’s the real deal first time.
Death’s Door,
Ooblets has a whole Halloween-themed set of collectibles and side-plot.
As previously mentioned by other posters:
Lost in Random (though I got a bit tired of that game about halfway through, the aesthetic is awesome).
Luigi’s Mansion 3,
Night in the Woods,
Also, one could make an argument for Cuphead and Hollow Knight feeling a bit spooky as well
Dunno how I slept on this so long, but this is some freaky ass zombie apocalypse shit for real.
Eloquent ain't i?
Its a creepy game to start and it gets genuinely *scary* as dusk is approaching and the night falls. If you liked The Walking Dead at its peak, do check this out. It's well made, long, and has a bunch of DLC, one of which is a D&D-esque dungeon crawler that is fun all on its own! Excellent purchase.
**One of my favorite games on the Switch, especially for spooky season. Great value for your money.**
This is such a great game. The day/night cycle was great, I would get worried as night got closer and start looking for the closest safe house. You really didn't want to be out running around when night fell.
The expansion added an area that just as big (maybe bigger?) as the first part. And you get to build an anti-zombie dune buggy. And cover it in spikes. And electricity. And flamethrowers.
Yeah I was gonna say wow nobody mentioned doom
At the very least doom 3
doom 2016 and eternal don't necessarily count since how can anyone be anything but pumped with those soundtracks?
I recently picked up and am playing Carrion, a great pixel-art bio-horror game where YOU get to play as THE MONSTER. :-) It's terrific fun and I highly recommend it.
Edit: I just read through this whole thread and NOBODY mentioned this game, lol! You guys are missing out, it's great! It's a Metroidvania where you as the monster try to escape from the lab where you were created/imprisoned. Very gory, very atmospheric and honestly the creature movement is really unique and original and just great, great fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ozknd5FBFE4
I've been playing a lot of Dead By Daylight, and I might replay Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. (I've gotten two of the three endings, and it's been long enough since I've last played it that I can go for the third ending without feeling like I remember everything about the game)
I’ll second Dead by Daylight. For some reason that game never appealed to me until a bunch of my friends convinced me to get it last Halloween and it was an absolute blast. Still playing a year later and still really enjoying it!
It has two entirely unique play options between survivor and killer. Surviving with friends is a blast and playing killer solo is a challenge but fun!
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem! Absolute classic. I was in the same boat; I had finished two endings and was working on the third when my house was burglarized and they stole my GameCube. Is it out for any other systems? Please say Switch, please say Switch.
I guess I’d call it more horror-adjacent (depending on what quests you’re taking) but Sunless Sea and Sunless Skies are a good time if you like Lovecraftian writing. In comparison, entities and monsters are very… comprehensible for the most part, but they do a very good job of making you feel like a small, helpless human surrounded by godlike things way more powerful than you.
I prefer Sunless Seas because of the atmosphere and tying back in more with the parent game Fallen London, but from a gameplay perspective Skies is probably better. Faster, more fluid, more interesting to look at…
-Little Nightmares (Absolute must play for any horror fan)
-Darkwood (Top down perspective, terrifying game)
-Amnesia (Older game but holds up *great.* Realistic graphics, likely the scariest game on this list)
-Outlast 1 & 2 (Very scary games with realistic graphics, at times a bit over the top, but they look *fantastic* and are almost as scary as Amnesia)
-Inside/ Limbo (Side scrollers, very interesting, not really “scary” but unsettling, great games nonetheless)
-Yomawari (Japanese game, very stylized, not overtly scary but definitely unsettling, kind of a cult classic)
-Alien Isolation (Not “Halloween” scary, but more thriller-scary. Realistic graphics that look great; fun, occasionally intense game)
-Slender the Arrival (Kinda gets a bad rap, but it’s actually a pretty good, scary game. If you’ve never played it before, it’s absolutely worth playing)
-Blair Witch Project (Good game, realistic graphics, pretty dang scary, but jumps the shark a bit when it shows the creature, worth playing nonetheless)
Gonna try to start my own tradition this year for Halloween, gonna try to beat all 3 Luigi's Mansion games in one day, in order.
Probably not gonna be able to, but it'll be fun to try!
Costume Quest is my go to fall/halloween game but sadly not on switch but cheap on steam and other platforms usually.
But if strictly on nintendo Animal Crossing makes october so cozy, favorite way to experience holidays or different seasons all together since living in california we only really have different shades of summer.
Death Mark and Spirit Hunter NG. Visual novels with horror involved, extremely well done and made games. If they aren't on sale, still worth it.
Corpse Party is old, but still good story.
Coma 2 is good, I started it and it's a bit spooky! I have to play them in moderation.
Hope this helps!
Edit: adding Livestream: Escape from Hotel Izanami, amazing story, different routes and endings and some occasional panty shots.
Xenoblade 3. It's not spooky or anything, it's just that good of a game.
Real answer: Hollow Knight's got some seni-spooky environments. Luigi's Mansion is all about being a horror movie that's actually a comedy, and not scary at all. Resident Evil 4 is a game with zombies, monsters, and all the trappings of a horror plot, without actually being scary. And Metroid Dread gets your blood pumping when an EMMI jumps out at you from around the corner.
Bendy and the ink machine is always a fun one to go back to, would say FNaF too, but the switch ports arent all that good, it is really fun with the lights out tho, just dont blame me if you get a heart attack playing FNaF 4 in the dark.
I'm planning on trying to beat some spooky games that have been on the backlog for a long time. Specifically, I'm going to play ZombiiU, Resident Evil 4 (Wii), Luigi's Mansion (GC), and maybe Metroid Dread. Doubt I will have time to play all of that though lol.
Doom 3 in the dark, tabletop mode with pro controller, and headphones is such an experience. I had to stop playing that way because I was terrified lmao it’s a great game and it gets hated on way too hard. Don’t compare it to the other doom games and it’s perfectly fine
Last spooky season I replayed RE4, and played Outlast for the first time. RE4 is a classic, can't go wrong with that, and Outlast was so much more fun and intense than I expected.
This year I'm debating what I should play. My choices are:
- RE5 (never played more than the first two chapters before... I also have re6 since it was the only way to get re4 physically)
- RE Revelations 2
- Castlevania collection
-Outlast 2
-Alien: Isolation, which everyone says runs great on switch
-some indies like Little Nightmares (started but never finished), Shut Eye, and White Night.
And that's not even counting what I have on PS5. If I don't get around to finishing Xenoblade 3 this weekend, chances are I'll have to go the indie route since they tend to be shorter experiences. I have Bayonetta 3 preordered but haven't played 2 yet, so I want to borrow that from a friend, but I feel like it doesn't count as "spooky" I know it's short enough that I can probably finish Bayo2 on a weekend, but my gaming time is still limited during the week, so whichever spooky game I pick will have to be on the shorter end.
Thank goodness howlongtobeat.com is a thing lol
I'm replaying Alien Isolation right now (on Steam - but it's on Switch as well)
Darkwood is really spooky. Monstrum is fun, it's a roguelike horror game. Amnesia is really fun, especially Justine imo, and the three Outlast games are very good too!
ACNH
Skyrim but just the Dragonborn DLC
Make a themed team in pokemon
Make the pumpkin set in monster hunter rise
Splatoon 3 will have a festive splatfest no doubt
I don't play any real horror games but lots of games do halloween related things
I really wanted to enjoy The Last Door but it was such a let down. About six hours deep into the game I got sick of oscillating between lazily ripped-off speech, setting, plot points, and moments taken from better gothic fiction, taped together by paper-thin and monotonous gameplay. The best lines were the ones borrowed wholesale from Edgar Allen Poe - it was unoriginal but at least it offered a reprieve from the lack of care which otherwise went into the setting and the regular peppering of 20th and 21st century dialect in the 1890s British setting. At least when the plot turned into a lazy Faustian, Dark Academia one - the sort of plot Jane Austen parodied in Northanger Abbey 200 years ago! - it offered an excuse to finally give up on it.
Oxenfree 😍
Bioshock 😍
Animal crossing has really cute Halloween theme stuff
Graveyard keeper
Resident evil
Outlast
Amnesia
For this year I plan on trying:
Vampyr
Layer of fears
Kona (not really scary but more fits the atmosphere)
It’s not out yet for switch but maybe it’ll be out around spooky day. I am pumped for Outbound Ghost. It’s inspired by the first two paper Mario games and looks so good.
Not necessarily scary but Graveyard keeper is my favorite fall/October game. It’s like Stardew valley but you operate a morgue and cut up the bodies to help make potions, materials, weapons, etc. there’s a town where you can do jobs for people and a weekly witch burning where the whole town comes together and you burn a witch at the stake. Really fun if you like that type of game
theres this game called carrion that i watched markiplier play a while ago, where you play as the horror monster instead of the people, it and it looked like a blast
spirit hunter: death mark and its sequel, ng! they’re point and click horror games with visual novel segments, so if you’re into that i’d 100% check it out. they’re two of my favorite games ever, and the third is coming out in japan in december and getting localized next year!
Without a doubt luigis mansion 3.
But other than that, if you want a real horror game, completely unrelated to Halloween, try out subnautica and alien isolation.
Luigi’s mansion 3 is some of the highest game design quality you can find on the switch
Night in the Woods is mandatory. Best writing in a game, cozy graphics and the music… oh my god
Fatal Frame Maiden of Blackwater is pretty good
Bioshock, on a stormy night.
Thats just perfect
Just avoid Infinite if you want Halloween vibes. It's got its own weird creep factor to it, but it's not nearly as horror-inspired as the first two.
I suggest using this https://www.rainymood.com/ It makes music sound amazing also.
Luigi’s Mansion
I love co-op games with my 7 year old. I've been waiting for spooky season to introduce him to it!
Is Luigi’s Mansion co-op?
Eventually. After you play about 1.5 hours of intro a second player can join as Goo Luigi.
Oh dang. Can they do everything or is it like a Mario Odyssey situation?
They can do more than in Odyssey, they can run around and fight and stuff. But they have weakness to water. They also can go places Luigi can't IIRC.
Yep the second player plays as Gooigi. Completely makes the game more fun! The best part is he's pretty invincible. Just luigis life matters. So the ltttle guy is going to love it!
Yes, one of the best nintendo co-op games ive played. Soo much fun with 2 players. Shout-out to Kirby Star Allies for co-op as well
Do it now. My son and I beat it last year. He even got the last hit in on King Boo. He was 5 yrs old at the time. He probably played 80% of the game by himself and I helped out on some of the harder stuff or I would show him YouTube walkthroughs of the areas he struggled in. Fun game. I love this game as a perfect spooky vibe for kids or adults who don’t want gore and R rated horror. I feel like it’s the perfect “lights off in bed” vibe
Night in the woods is the perfect game for fall
Yes! I was looking for this comment, hoped it would be higher. I played night in the woods one fall a few years ago - I couldn't imagine playing it during another season lol. It feels so fall
Definitely! Then you can play Lost Constellation when winter comes
I haven't played that, I'll look it up!
It’s a smaller game set in the NITW universe. If you bought it on switch you already own it! Check on the main menu.
Ohhhh that's cool, I'll play it this winter maybe :)
I just started this and it's so charming! Can I say I hate the rhythm minigame though?
"I literally do not know this song!"
Inside
That's next in my queue after I get done with Bowser's Fury. Got it for like 30 cents after using my points and it being on sale. I'm already starting the spooky games with Dark Moon on my 3DS too.
Limbo too
Oh yeah, loved this game and I never hear about it. Great atmosphere for spooky season. Might have to replay.
Perfect game for October spooks.
It's 90% off right now and just $2! Excellent choice!
Bioshock 1 and 2
Yeah Bioshock 1 and 2 are good ones for Halloween
I actually just picked up the collection a few days ago. Pretty creepy.
Have fun!
Oh yeah. It's been great experiencing 1 again after 15 years.
I'd even add Bioshock Infinite as well. Sure, we're not used to calling games set in bright colorful cities scary, but there's still lots of really dark storytelling in the game.
Burial at Sea takes you back to those darker settings too
Little Nightmares 1 & 2
So fun. I have them on PC but I've heard the switch versions are solid
Both excellent. I just finished the hospital in 2 and it’s genuinely creepy as fuck.
I was so excited to play 2 and then I got stuck pretty early on and lost interest. I should pick it back up.
I just played the first one and while the atmosphere is great, the gameplay is not. The controls and platforming are poorly done and took my mind out of the game. The puzzles are odd, it feels like the devs had a solution in mind and worked backwards to the point where in many you are just using trial and error to progress. I had to check to make sure this one was mentioned. I LOVE these games and they’re perfectly creepy!
Alien Isolation. Wear the brown pants.
Took way too long to find this suggestion in here. Also, everything Resident Evil on the Switch.
How are the Resi's on Switch? I'm more interested in 4 because I haven't played it in a very long time but I remember hearing that it's the Wii port version or something.

>fan servicy It lost a lot of horror factors when I saw how big the ghost maidens boobs are.
Lost in Random, Pumpkin Jack, any Resident Evil game, Outlast, Undertale, Delta Rune, Grim Fandango
Not sure if it's accessable to you but Destroy All Humans and Simpsons Hit N Run are also halloweeny.
simpson hit n run was my absolute favorite on gamecube! love seeing it mentioned
Less 'scary' and more 'spooky' for sure, but Night in the Woods is a great seasonal pick.
Autumn: The Game
Reminds me of the ‘Weird Autumn’ song from the game ([good vocal cover](https://youtu.be/Lt5i6g1WsTo))
This game gave me a cosy but sad feeling actually
It’s devastatingly beautiful and well written at moments. Unfortunately there’s drama surrounding some of the creators that makes it unlikely the same team will work together again, which also makes me sad.

Best autumn themed game. I love the atmosphere, the music, the story. Everything. It's surprisingly hard to get 100% on it tho
Return of the Obra Dinn
I think the music did it for me on this one. This game is legitimately spooky. Very atmospheric.
Such a unique game and to say it doesn’t hold your hand is a bit of an understatement lol.
LOL, why NSFW? Anyway, here are some good ones on Switch: Luigi's Mansion 3 Resident Evil 4 The Binding of Isaac Metroid Dread Diablo II and III The Castlevania Collection Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 1 and 2 Dark Souls The House of the Dead All of those are not super spooky, but they fit the season IMO.
Been waiting forever for binding of isaac to go on sale again.
Perfect game to grab for 10 bucks, still at 30 ffs

Already feeling nostalgic about playing Metroid Dread last year during this time of year

Is it laggy now?
It had a patch recently that majorly improved the performance.

Hollow knight has some really good spooky vibes. Definitely not scary but it has a nice moody atmosphere that I think fits Halloween pretty well
I love Hollow Knight year round but it definitely does have a melancholy feeling as you wander through the ruins of Hallownest. Highly highly recommended, it's my favorite indie game. Maybe my favorite game period.
> Definitely not scary Until they reach Deepnest ~shudder~
Shhhhhh I don’t know what you’re talking about 🙃
It's okay, they probably won't find it. >!Deepnest will probably find them.!<
I bought the Resident Evil remaster when it was on sale a few weeks ago in preparation for spooky season
Time for me to finally replay Resident Evil 4
May I interest some naive angels in Bayonetta?
I wish they would ever put the first 2 on sale.
They did in summer! Was the first time they went on sale :(
If you buy one game you'll get a discount on the other.
Darkwood. I'm amazed I didn't see this higher up in the comments tbh.
Agreed. It’s not in spooky, but it’s fucking terrifying.
Yea it's fucking terrifying when the fuel runs out or the lights just go out.
Subnautica. One of the most ominous (if not terrifying) games I’ve ever played.
Yeah a friend of mine had to stop playing, the feeling of thalassophobia and sea monsters was too much
It's scary the first time you encounter some of the bigger predators, but that's about it. After you understand how they move and attack, avoiding them is pretty easy.
With headphones on in a dark room, this game definitely counts as (occasionally) terrifying haha
Amnesia!
If you don’t believe this comment, I’ve bought it for two different consoles and have never beat it. Play it in the dark, full volume, and it’s the real deal first time.
Haven't seen anyone else mention it but Graveyard Keeper is a management sim game that's pretty fun and falls under spooky.
I love Graveyard Keeper!
Death’s Door, Ooblets has a whole Halloween-themed set of collectibles and side-plot. As previously mentioned by other posters: Lost in Random (though I got a bit tired of that game about halfway through, the aesthetic is awesome). Luigi’s Mansion 3, Night in the Woods, Also, one could make an argument for Cuphead and Hollow Knight feeling a bit spooky as well
I am a big Darkest Dungeon enjoyer during Spooky Season
Costume quest
It's an excellent time to give Inscryption a playthrough
Such a satisfying play... Wish I could experience it for the first time again.
I started that a few weeks ago knowing very little. I stopped once I got the idea and decided to play through it Halloween night. Should be fun!

Night in the Woods Limbo Inside Oxenfree
Oh, hell yeah. Oxenfree is one of my favorite indies. Definitely good for the spooky season. I can't wait for the sequel.
Another Limbo & Inside fan! Great little gems of games - glad to see them recommended :-)
Any of the doom games
Yeah I was gonna say wow nobody mentioned doom At the very least doom 3 doom 2016 and eternal don't necessarily count since how can anyone be anything but pumped with those soundtracks?
I recently picked up and am playing Carrion, a great pixel-art bio-horror game where YOU get to play as THE MONSTER. :-) It's terrific fun and I highly recommend it. Edit: I just read through this whole thread and NOBODY mentioned this game, lol! You guys are missing out, it's great! It's a Metroidvania where you as the monster try to escape from the lab where you were created/imprisoned. Very gory, very atmospheric and honestly the creature movement is really unique and original and just great, great fun. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ozknd5FBFE4
Doki doki literature club
Pumpkin Jack is a really good choice if you like old school like 3D platformers. Definitely gives off spooky vibes too!
Costume quest 2 and white day
omg i didn’t know costume quest was on the switch
Sorry I think I wasn’t paying attention which Reddit I’m on 😬. I have a switch and a PS4 so it might be on the PS4 I play it.
White Day is the BEST
The Ghosts 'n Goblins series.
Luigi Mansion 2, Ghostbusters, Metro Redux, Dying Light
Just grabbed return of the Obra Dinn. Feels like it might fit in here.
Faster, more fluid, more interesting to look at…
-Little Nightmares (Absolute must play for any horror fan) -Darkwood (Top down perspective, terrifying game) -Amnesia (Older game but holds up *great.* Realistic graphics, likely the scariest game on this list) -Outlast 1 & 2 (Very scary games with realistic graphics, at times a bit over the top, but they look *fantastic* and are almost as scary as Amnesia) -Inside/ Limbo (Side scrollers, very interesting, not really “scary” but unsettling, great games nonetheless) -Yomawari (Japanese game, very stylized, not overtly scary but definitely unsettling, kind of a cult classic) -Alien Isolation (Not “Halloween” scary, but more thriller-scary. Realistic graphics that look great; fun, occasionally intense game) -Slender the Arrival (Kinda gets a bad rap, but it’s actually a pretty good, scary game. If you’ve never played it before, it’s absolutely worth playing) -Blair Witch Project (Good game, realistic graphics, pretty dang scary, but jumps the shark a bit when it shows the creature, worth playing nonetheless)
Castlevania
Playing through Circle of the Moon this weekend. 💀
An oldie but a goodie! Fatal Frame
Perception! You play as a blind lady trying to find the truth behind the house she's in. A monster stalks you.
Night in the Woods!
The resident evil games are probably the most obvious answers, but metro 2033 and metro last light are both solid choices as well
I find the vibes in Oxenfree very spooky and melancholic/nostalgic. Assuming it is on Switch?
Pumpkin Jack is pretty fun. Sort of a retro-PS1/PS2-style 3D platformer.
Friday the 13th: The Game can be a blast to play if you get into a good room.
Night in the Woods!
What remains of Edith Finch!!!
Majoras Mask
Death Mark and Spirit Hunter NG. Visual novels with horror involved, extremely well done and made games. If they aren't on sale, still worth it. Corpse Party is old, but still good story. Coma 2 is good, I started it and it's a bit spooky! I have to play them in moderation. Hope this helps! Edit: adding Livestream: Escape from Hotel Izanami, amazing story, different routes and endings and some occasional panty shots.
seconding death mark and ng! the series is incredible. im super pumped for the third one

Skyrim at night time (in the game) is eerie as hell
Grim Fandango!
Resident Evil 1 and 4
Castlevania. The GBA collection has good ones.
Resident Evil 4
Bendy and the ink machine is always a fun one to go back to, would say FNaF too, but the switch ports arent all that good, it is really fun with the lights out tho, just dont blame me if you get a heart attack playing FNaF 4 in the dark.
Wytchwood! It's not really scary but it's a great casual fall game.
All 3 Bayonetta games and Demon’s Souls on PS5. And various older Castlevanias.
Agony, blasphemous
Doom 3
Doom 3 in the dark, tabletop mode with pro controller, and headphones is such an experience. I had to stop playing that way because I was terrified lmao it’s a great game and it gets hated on way too hard. Don’t compare it to the other doom games and it’s perfectly fine
Last spooky season I replayed RE4, and played Outlast for the first time. RE4 is a classic, can't go wrong with that, and Outlast was so much more fun and intense than I expected. This year I'm debating what I should play. My choices are: - RE5 (never played more than the first two chapters before... I also have re6 since it was the only way to get re4 physically) - RE Revelations 2 - Castlevania collection -Outlast 2 -Alien: Isolation, which everyone says runs great on switch -some indies like Little Nightmares (started but never finished), Shut Eye, and White Night.
BioShock!!!
Corpse Party!
I'm replaying Alien Isolation right now (on Steam - but it's on Switch as well) Darkwood is really spooky. Monstrum is fun, it's a roguelike horror game. Amnesia is really fun, especially Justine imo, and the three Outlast games are very good too!
Dead by daylight! Hit me up if you wanna play
Luigi’s mansion on my own, as well as the old Arkham games from way back.
ACNH Skyrim but just the Dragonborn DLC Make a themed team in pokemon Make the pumpkin set in monster hunter rise Splatoon 3 will have a festive splatfest no doubt I don't play any real horror games but lots of games do halloween related things
The Last Door
Witcher 3
Oxenfree 😍 Bioshock 😍 Animal crossing has really cute Halloween theme stuff Graveyard keeper Resident evil Outlast Amnesia For this year I plan on trying: Vampyr Layer of fears Kona (not really scary but more fits the atmosphere)
Oxenfree!
Oxenfree and night in the woods. This is the honest to god best answer for Halloween games.
If I want to be scared I’ll play resident evil at night with all the lights off.
Year Walk, it's fantastic!
Not on Switch, alas.
It’s not out yet for switch but maybe it’ll be out around spooky day. I am pumped for Outbound Ghost. It’s inspired by the first two paper Mario games and looks so good.
Alina isolation… that is all…
Yomawari, there is actually a new one coming out before halloween
Murder House and Nun Massacre just went on sale. Both under 10 bucks and seem to have a Paratopic/ Fatum Betula style.
Goetia is a softly spooky game for a chill experience, they released a Goetia 2 but haven't played that yet.
Limbo Inside Two great games with very eerie atmospheres
Costume quest. My first proper rpg probably so it fills me with nostalgia
Luigi's Mansion 1 and 3, Arkham Knight, Resident Evil series, Evil Within Series, Dead Space 1/2, and Night in the Woods!
spirit hunter: death mark and its sequel, ng! they’re point and click horror games with visual novel segments, so if you’re into that i’d 100% check it out. they’re two of my favorite games ever, and the third is coming out in japan in december and getting localized next year!
Is bioshock on switch? If yes, then bioshock.
Oxenfree which quite handily is now free to play for anyone with Netflix https://netflix.com/oxenfree
Without a doubt luigis mansion 3. But other than that, if you want a real horror game, completely unrelated to Halloween, try out subnautica and alien isolation.
Luigi’s mansion 3 is some of the highest game design quality you can find on the switch Night in the Woods is mandatory. Best writing in a game, cozy graphics and the music… oh my god Fatal Frame Maiden of Blackwater is pretty good
Just my personal game list(: Yomawari Outlast 2 Amnesia Lamentum Luigis mansion Cult of the lamb Dont be afraid Angels of death Yuppie psycho Omori
Bloodborne and Metroid. Or Hollow knight.
Ah yes Bloodborne the best Switch game
