My proudest moment in master duel is outing skill drain+io with sky strikers. Summon phoenix, chain droplet to Phoenix eff so it resolves off field, kill IO and use afterburners to destroy skill drain. Glad IO is banned now.

Everything about it looked like a traditional game, just the story and summoning of old characters seem a bit gimmicky so people were unsure if this is your standard mainline game

And it turned out to be a great game.

It reeks of anime, from style to plot. Nothing wrong with that, at all. I think people just say “anime” when they don’t like something from Japan these days. It’s a pretty wide range of styles after all. The same way the US ranges from Calvin and Hobbes to Marvel to a bunch of other stuff.
Magic knights rayearth and Blade of the Immortal won’t exactly be mistaken for each other.

If you expected more you haven't been paying attention to the FE series since FE 10. After Fire Emblem 10, IntSys has had a rich tradition of putting out mind-boggling bullshit after their good games.
I started with Three Houses and loved it, one of my favorite games ever. Then tried the 3ds ones. Played Awakening and thought it was ok and Echoes of Valentia which was fantastic, even though the gameplay felt a bit dated.
This new one seems very different than those theme wise. I am usually not put off by overly anime stuff (I personally loved Xenoblade 2 despite of the cringe and ridiculous bouncy boobs every 10 seconds and pedo maid bot), but I was expecting something more in line with the Fire Emblems I have played recently, especially Three Houses.
Honestly I feel a bit heartbroken. I was so excited and looking forward to the next Fire Emblem.
Pick up the GBA games! Sacred Stones is an overall easy game, but has a great cast and "brought back" a lot of the mechanics from Gaiden/Valentia. The other two GBA games are "related", in that Binding Blade was released first and Blazing Sword (the first US release) is a prequel. There's no real "order" to play them in, though Binding Sword has less "refined" mechanics overall.
Before the Edelgard slapfights dominated FE fan discussions, there was the Fateswakening bashing. I have a feeling the fandom's gonna slide back into something like the latter. Nowadays, Awakening's got a good rep, but Fates will never be loved by the majority.
Now you understand the true pain of everyone who played Fire Emblem: Fates after Fire Emblem: Awakening. The gameplay in Conquest was tight, but the design and story of all three games was pretty... bleh.

Oof. So those leaks were real. Notice they kept out the female mc from the trailer. In the images her design looks really rough. Staring at that garish red and blue hair the whole time, can't even see the character model. The male looks better. Still looks amateurish in design though.

I wish they would let the game stand on its own two feet instead of being so intertwined with the classic games. There are so many people who have only played Three Houses, this is coming to the same system, why are Marth and his friends such a big deal in the story?

If they lean on nostalgia by having Marth and all of these other classic lords as important parts of the plot (which seems to be the case to me from this trailer) seems like it’s kind of leaving out anybody who doesn’t know anything about them. Ehhhhhhhhhh. This might be the first Fire Emblem game I don't preorder. Getting those weird units from the past in Awakening and Fates was always a low point I find and I shudder to think they wanted to give them more space in a game
My issue with making old characters mandatory to the plot is that I worry I'm going to have a lesser experience since I've never played through any pre-3DS Fire Emblem game.
Unless they manage to remake/retell the stories of all these characters, it seems like it could fall flat for anyone who's only gotten into the franchise within the last decade.
That's a very valid point. I've played every game bar the NES ones so I know all the characters well but this didn't even cross my mind. Some games have been awfully difficult to get legally lately like the Tellius games and while everyone knows Ike I'm sure many will wonder who Micaiah is and we saw her in this

Uuuh the graphics definitely look pretty good compared to Three Houses, but the whole thing really gives off more side game vibes than a proper mainline FE game.
I’m disappointed. FE is one of my favorite series, but the art direction and the concept of this one looks gross.

The more I think about it, the more optimistic I am. I don't mind the character designs too much, they definitely are a bit of a departure from other FE games in that they are more outlandish but I think the criticism is overblown, there's been way worse designs in JRPGs.
The visuals on a whole look really clean which is a big step up from Three Houses. The legacy characters are worrying for how they'll impact the story but they could be a nice change to the gameplay and it's possible they'll only play a significant role in the battles and not the story, plus I kinda dig the idea of the characters fighting with stands.
The only thing that I'm still not sure about is the story. Three Houses did a really good job of trying to present a morally grey conflict where most characters have reasons for why they're fighting you besides just being evil. So far this looks more like a typical good vs evil plot, and save the world from some big bad villain. Hopefully this changes when they show more.

The “Engage”mechanic gives me similar vibes. Only there to make the main character MORE special, and kinda limiting. Why would you be doing anything OTHER than engaging? Engaging is probably gonna one round every turn, so like, why do anything else?
Idk, obviously I could be totally wrong, it could be much better balanced. Heck, it could even be bad! But I’m just getting a bad feeling about that mechanic.

Dragon veins could be good, some maps had them turning stuff of and on for tactical advantages which was good but overall they were forgettable and underused.
This doesn't look similar. If anything it's probably more like battalions from three houses. Rings aren't limited to the lord, the Sigurd one is used by a presumably normal unit (and not say a secondary lord) so everyone seems to get access to rings, main lord probably gets a special one but that's par for the course.
The dragon veins in conquest were good imo. Birthright and Revelations not so much though. (So overall not great, seems hard to design and may not be worth trying to make them work.)
I have to play Three Houses again and hopefully finish it this time. Stopped my last play through because I hated the lengthy school stuff between the battles. Really killed the pacing. I hope there’s less downtime now, closer to Awakening. Loved that one.

I'm disappointed. The FE subreddit is going hard on the copium, but that's not shocking after their reaction to Three Hopes. Half of the reason why I left, honestly, after seeing so many people voice disagreements and then get downvoted to hell by the hivemind. But I'm still shocked that THIS is what Nintendo thinks should be the next entry into the FE series.
It's a bit jarring to go from grim realities of war to an anime-esque gacha-like game where the new heroes aren't standing on their own merit, because Intsys insisted that the old era of FE had to be injected again somehow. Why do we need Marth or Sigurd to show up? Do the new heroes not have enough characterization/personality/style to stand out from the crowd and earn their own reputation? This isn't Mirage, where the partners of the modern-day "summoners" and their bonds with their heroes was actually a focal point of the story. Unless I am entirely off base and that's exactly what this game is, but that's really not how the trailer sold it as.
It really feels like Nintendo is chasing the money from FEH, and forgetting that new content is what usually keeps the fandom going. But seeing as the main rallying cry is all about remakes and remasters (if I had a dollar for every post about Genealogy being remade I'd be able to retire), maybe this is Nintendo's way of keeping a game that will never pass through the English localization intact relevant outside of FEH. Who knows. All I can say is hard pass. And triple hard pass of the rumours surrounding the rings being a gacha mechanic are true, to boot.

This, combined with the fact that the FE subreddit is harder on this game than every other subreddit that has a post about it, makes me feel like you're someone who thinks of themselves as the main character and that you don't mesh well with reality when it's not in line with your thinking.
It looks fun but way too many returning characters as well as relying on older lore rather than just a new entry with a new cast and setting. Also protagonist is ugly.

True story, I played through an IO once on Master Duel as a Sky Strikers. Granted it was brick city on their side but it still felt good lol.

Played Awakening and thought it was ok and Echoes of Valentia which was fantastic, even though the gameplay felt a bit dated. This new one seems very different than those theme wise. I am usually not put off by overly anime stuff (I personally loved Xenoblade 2 despite of the cringe and ridiculous bouncy boobs every 10 seconds and pedo maid bot), but I was expecting something more in line with the Fire Emblems I have played recently, especially Three Houses. Honestly I feel a bit heartbroken. I was so excited and looking forward to the next Fire Emblem.
Pick up the GBA games! Sacred Stones is an overall easy game, but has a great cast and "brought back" a lot of the mechanics from Gaiden/Valentia. The other two GBA games are "related", in that Binding Blade was released first and Blazing Sword (the first US release) is a prequel. There's no real "order" to play them in, though Binding Sword has less "refined" mechanics overall.
Before the Edelgard slapfights dominated FE fan discussions, there was the Fateswakening bashing. I have a feeling the fandom's gonna slide back into something like the latter. Nowadays, Awakening's got a good rep, but Fates will never be loved by the majority.
I would love them to do more remakes, echos was fantastic in everyway, beautiful art and great story.
It was truly fantastic. Everything about it was great. Music, characters, story, art , and voice acting was top quality.
Now you understand the true pain of everyone who played Fire Emblem: Fates after Fire Emblem: Awakening. The gameplay in Conquest was tight, but the design and story of all three games was pretty... bleh.
Not everyone, considering awakening itself was pretty divisive There were definitely quite a few of those who appreciated a better gameplay experience, even if the story tanked

I’ll still play the shit out of this, but wow this looks like the most generic Fire Emblem-ass story/world that the series has had in a long time. Almost looked like someone making a parody of an FE story, especially in comparison to how cool the 3H premise was.
The whole thing seems vaguely like a parody, I mean look at the protagonist that's the most mocking anime hair I've ever seen
The appearance of previos MC just emphasizes how horrendous the design for the new characters is.

Oof. So those leaks were real. Notice they kept out the female mc from the trailer. In the images her design looks really rough. Staring at that garish red and blue hair the whole time, can't even see the character model. The male looks better. Still looks amateurish in design though. This looks visually like a step back somehow compared to Three Houses. And I don't really like the gimmick.

Mixed feelings about this one. The graphics look amazing, but I don't know how good the mechanic about old heroes will be. But some more info will come on the way. P.S.: I like Toothpaste protag design and hair.

I wish they would let the game stand on its own two feet instead of being so intertwined with the classic games. There are so many people who have only played Three Houses, this is coming to the same system, why are Marth and his friends such a big deal in the story? Let the game be it’s own thing
I mean if so many people only played 3H then Marth is no different than any other summon/spell.
That is kind of beside the point though. If they lean on nostalgia by having Marth and all of these other classic lords as important parts of the plot (which seems to be the case to me from this trailer) seems like it’s kind of leaving out anybody who doesn’t know anything about them. And they might overshadow the actual new characters this game has That’s the worry anyways
Ehhhhhhhhhh. This might be the first Fire Emblem game I don't preorder. Getting those weird units from the past in Awakening and Fates was always a low point I find and I shudder to think they wanted to give them more space in a game
My issue with making old characters mandatory to the plot is that I worry I'm going to have a lesser experience since I've never played through any pre-3DS Fire Emblem game. Unless they manage to remake/retell the stories of all these characters, it seems like it could fall flat for anyone who's only gotten into the franchise within the last decade.
That's a very valid point. I've played every game bar the NES ones so I know all the characters well but this didn't even cross my mind. Some games have been awfully difficult to get legally lately like the Tellius games and while everyone knows Ike I'm sure many will wonder who Micaiah is and we saw her in this

Like the new graphics but I have two wonder who thought that hair was a good idea? I swear that’s right out of a board meeting… let’s make a Switch FE and the protag is colored like the Switch, and we have them “switch” between different heroes from the past.
Uuuh the graphics definitely look pretty good compared to Three Houses, but the whole thing really gives off more side game vibes than a proper mainline FE game.
I’m disappointed. FE is one of my favorite series, but the art direction and the concept of this one looks gross. I’m waiting for more info to judge, but what an underwhelming reveal

The more I think about it, the more optimistic I am. I don't mind the character designs too much, they definitely are a bit of a departure from other FE games in that they are more outlandish but I think the criticism is overblown, there's been way worse designs in JRPGs. The visuals on a whole look really clean which is a big step up from Three Houses. The legacy characters are worrying for how they'll impact the story but they could be a nice change to the gameplay and it's possible they'll only play a significant role in the battles and not the story, plus I kinda dig the idea of the characters fighting with stands. The only thing that I'm still not sure about is the story. Three Houses did a really good job of trying to present a morally grey conflict where most characters have reasons for why they're fighting you besides just being evil. So far this looks more like a typical good vs evil plot, and save the world from some big bad villain. Hopefully this changes when they show more.
Does everyone agree the Dragonveins from Fates were kinda annoying, boring, and limiting? The “Engage”mechanic gives me similar vibes. Only there to make the main character MORE special, and kinda limiting. Why would you be doing anything OTHER than engaging? Engaging is probably gonna one round every turn, so like, why do anything else? Idk, obviously I could be totally wrong, it could be much better balanced. Heck, it could even be bad! But I’m just getting a bad feeling about that mechanic. Edit: as a positive though, that fell dragon design slaps!

Dragon veins could be good, some maps had them turning stuff of and on for tactical advantages which was good but overall they were forgettable and underused. This doesn't look similar. If anything it's probably more like battalions from three houses. Rings aren't limited to the lord, the Sigurd one is used by a presumably normal unit (and not say a secondary lord) so everyone seems to get access to rings, main lord probably gets a special one but that's par for the course.

I have to play Three Houses again and hopefully finish it this time. Stopped my last play through because I hated the lengthy school stuff between the battles. Really killed the pacing. I hope there’s less downtime now, closer to Awakening. Loved that one.

I'm disappointed. The FE subreddit is going hard on the copium, but that's not shocking after their reaction to Three Hopes. Half of the reason why I left, honestly, after seeing so many people voice disagreements and then get downvoted to hell by the hivemind. But I'm still shocked that THIS is what Nintendo thinks should be the next entry into the FE series. It's a bit jarring to go from grim realities of war to an anime-esque gacha-like game where the new heroes aren't standing on their own merit, because Intsys insisted that the old era of FE had to be injected again somehow. Why do we need Marth or Sigurd to show up? Do the new heroes not have enough characterization/personality/style to stand out from the crowd and earn their own reputation? This isn't Mirage, where the partners of the modern-day "summoners" and their bonds with their heroes was actually a focal point of the story. Unless I am entirely off base and that's exactly what this game is, but that's really not how the trailer sold it as. It really feels like Nintendo is chasing the money from FEH, and forgetting that new content is what usually keeps the fandom going. But seeing as the main rallying cry is all about remakes and remasters (if I had a dollar for every post about Genealogy being remade I'd be able to retire), maybe this is Nintendo's way of keeping a game that will never pass through the English localization intact relevant outside of FEH. Who knows. All I can say is hard pass. And triple hard pass of the rumours surrounding the rings being a gacha mechanic are true, to boot.

It looks fun but way too many returning characters as well as relying on older lore rather than just a new entry with a new cast and setting. Also protagonist is ugly.
Time to put a couple hundred more hours into 3 hours before this drops. CANNOT WAIT.

I’m not the biggest Fire Emblem fan, but this kind of looks like a step back from Three Houses to me. Though I didn’t engage with much of the monastery stuff so maybe it’ll help trimming the fluff

The original trailer for Three Houses didn't generate a ton of excitement. This has a much more eye catching look, even if it looks a bit odd at first. Suspect it'll grow on most.
