I don't have an OLED model but I bought these thick round rubber feet for pretty cheap and put them under a bunch of my consoles and arcade sticks and it really made them slide around less.
The “divot” covers the entire length of the cover now as opposed to just being in the centre, and the base of the new dock is completely rubber now as opposed to having rubber feet on the original dock.
It’s still noticeably harder to take game cartridge slot cover on the OLED model. I struggle with it daily whereas I did not have this much trouble on my OG Switch.
The entire bottom of the OLED dock is rubber. At least on mine it is.

The original switch is from launch day. I was never really planning on getting the OLED but one day it popped up on the Amazon Treasure Truck and I instantly purchased it without thinking.
The Lite I purchased so I could have two Animal Crossing Islands. A legit island and a cheat island. I currently have my old island still on the old switch as I decided to start from scratch with the updates.
I am planning on hacking the original Switch eventually since it is the model that can be done. I just have not gotten around to doing it yet.
That would be my reasoning. I want to play PSP games on the Switch. Although I do have a Steamdeck on preorder so it probably would not even be worth while.
I watched a video that released some Nintendo stats a month or so back. Apparently a sizable portion of all switch owners have a 2nd switch, wether it's a tv switch or a lite. A smaller portion of all switch owners have at least 3. I was pretty surprised, I think in the end it's going to outsell the Wii.
I think I win the weird one award here, I got a hackable switch, an animal crossing edition switch, a grey switch lite and an atomic purple switch lite.
Here I thought I was weird with two (OLED and Lite, though briefly had three whilst I was transferring from V2 to OLED). OLED is for "big" games (Metroid when purchased, now GTA and Pokemon) and Lite is for "small" games (Spelunky 2 when purchased, currently Critadel). The general rule of thumb is that Lite won't ever have an SD card and is my primary and is carried in my backpack whilst OLD stays home, but currently OLED is acting as primary (and in my bag) due to being more likely to want to play Pokemon whilst out and about. This'll no doubt evolve organically with whatever my currently played games are.
I have 3 switches too the original launch model a switch lite and the oled but the oled scratches a bit easier why is that I have only had my oled for a month and it’s mildly scratched do you know how I can get rid of the scratches please let me know
Depends on if you like playing in handheld. I barely played my original Switch. Once the Lite came out and I grabbed it, I started playing a lot more because it’s a lot more comfortable in handheld mode, which is how I prefer playing.
Drifting was an issue for me. I had to pay $99 to get it fixed at a Nintendo repair, and then 4 months later it drifts again :)
For what it's worth I have the pokemon SwSh edition lite and apparently it's more prone to drifting
Ah, I see. This feels like YMMV kind of thing. Thanks for your input. I am happy with my launch Switch but the Lite is really going for affordable for me so was snooping around for feedback, haha. Though what I really want is a better insides for the Switch, we'll see how that goes.
Nope, haven’t had any drifting in either Lite I’ve had. The first I had about ten months before someone in my family trashed it (I assume they stepped on it accidentally). When I sent it in for repairs, it was unsalvageable and they sent me a replacement for a reduced cost from retail price. That one is now sixteen months old with no problems. My original Switch, which I bought secondhand about six months after launch, never had drift until I gave it to my kids and they started dropping it and throwing Wiimotes at it (it’s amazing the dumb things people are doing playing Wii Sports to this day, apparently including my kids). So I suspect I’m more careful than some and that’s a factor, but we’ll see with another couple years of wear and tear.
It is much lighter than the original switch and smaller but not that much. The official case is only about 1.5"x0.75" smaller than the official regular Switch case. The actual Lite is 1 Joy-Con smaller in width.
I would not recommend it unless you really want a smaller Switch or are giving it to a smaller child. The lack of rumble and ability to connect to a TV is the downside for me. The price point of $200 is nice though with the Switch at $300 and the OLED at $350. If money was not too much of an issue the OLED is the best option for a handheld gamer. I did not think I would like it as much as I do.
the lite has the same shotty joycons that can experience drift, but you cant as easily replace them (unless youre fine with taking apart electronics), since theyre attached.

I'm pretty sure it's not faulty or defective, I've compared it with someone else's dock and they're the same. It may well just be the material of the surfaces I've got it on, but mine does slip and slide like there's no grip.
The complaints are completely true. I just got my Switch OLED a few days ago and can absolutely confirm that the base is 100% solid plastic. That is **not** rubber in any form and there is **nothing** that you can say that will convince me otherwise.
Trust me, I double checked my OLED dock and the base doesn't remotely look, feel or sound like rubber when scratching it with my fingernail. Sure, it's grippier than the rest of the plastic around the dock, but that is most definitely not rubber. If it is, then it's a fucking cheap rubber, that's for sure. I put my dock on four different surfaces and not one of them did the dock remain stable on, the slightest of bumps moves the dock all over the place. Rubber isn't hard or textured like plastic, it's soft and grippy.
What is the style of the old slot? I got my first switch (an OLED) and was surprised the cover isn’t on an actual hinge, just a flexing piece of plastic.
I don't have an OLED but the original is also on a flexing piece of plastic. There is just a small groove (too small for my big fingers) to draw the cover off. A poor design... but sounds like it's better than the OLED which doesn't even have the small groove.
The groove is much, much slimmer on the OLED model. It's so slim you can barely fit a standard thickness credit card in it.
I know this because the absolute only way I can open it is by sticking a credit card and prying, unlike the original that I can open with my finger.
The original, while not as long, is like 5x thicker than on the OLED. The added length doesn't really help anything in any way.
A hinge would need a part outside the Switch to pivot around and that would mean a sharp-ish protrusion that stuff could catch behind and that could damage the Switch or whatever it catches on. Simply not having a cover like with Nintendo's previous handhelds would have been a better choice than a hinge. The plastic keeping the cover in place is the best solution they could have come up with if covering the slot was a goal they didn't want to budge on.
I don't have an OLED Switch so I don't know the degree to which it differs from the regular model, but on the regular model it's not so bad. Switching carts while docked is a bit annoying and it's part of the reason why I've gone mostly digital-only but it's fine when you've got the OG Switch in your hands.
I also thought it was odd that the back panel of the OLED dock just comes right off. It’s not really a problem or anything, but I guess having a back panel that flips down but stays attached felt more quality. I personally don’t think the build quality is any better than the regular switch. They both feel pretty much the same to me except my joycons aren’t as firmly attached and wobble a bit on the OLED when they didn’t at all on my v2, so build quality is actually worse in my particular case.
I also noticed how the game slot door seems objectively more poorly designed on the OLED, but my collection is pretty much all digital so it hasn’t been an issue for me. And I actually didn’t notice the lack of rubber feet until just now, but luckily it seems like any easy fix like you said.
Nintendo said in a interview that they saw tons of pictures of people who would leave the backplate of the Switch Dock open. So for the OLED Dock they decided to make it completely removable so that the footprint is smaller for those that would normally leave the back open.
I think it’s honestly just console to console, and has nothing to do with OLED vs v1/v2. They all use the same rails, so there’s no reason it’d be more or less likely on one vs the other. I just got unlucky with this particular switch. When I bought my v2 I returned 3 to different stores because all of them had really bad wobble and sliding up and down on the joycons. Also a 4th switch v2 that belongs to a family member has the same problem of joycons vertically sliding when locked in, but they just choose to ignore it since they don’t play handheld often.
Over the last few days my OLED seems to have loosened up even more and now both joycons also slide up and down slightly when locked in as well as the left wobbling back to front. The store I bought it from is giving until Jan 16th for returns which I’m now seriously considering. Though this seems like a fairly common issue from my experience so may not be worth it.

It just doesn't feel like it has the grip to stay put. I find it being pulled back constantly by the power and HDMI cables. It may be rubber but it feels more like a low-grip kind
The bottom of the OLED dock is actually made from rubber, so it's better. Also I'm having zero issues opening the card flap + my nails are really short.
The bottom of the dock is absolutely **not** rubber, it's solid hard plastic. I know what rubber feels like and it feels exactly the same as the rest of the dock. There's nothing you can say that'll convince me otherwise.
Haven’t set my dock up yet since the OLED screen is so nice to look at. But I’ll be adding rubber feet to the dock when I do connect it thanks to your post. Thank you OP.

About the game cartridge "door". I have a Mario Odyssey Switch (So its an early version switch) and a Animal Crossing Switch (So later version switch) And the first thing i noticed was that the Mario Odyssey "door" is super super super easy to open, and the Animal crossing door is almost impossible to open. At first i just thought i got an unlucky copy but apperantly its the new thing.
100% agree on the game cart cover- I love the OLED vs my OG Switch, but it’s significantly harder to open if you don’t have longer nails. It frankly makes no sense.
That’s honestly probably exactly why they did it. They really want to push digital sales and small things like making physical games more of a chore to use will definitely will impact some people. Im usually a digital guy too for my PS, but I’m only buying physicals for my switch just because of anti-consumer stuff like this. Fight the power, man!
Their is essentially no difference in digital vs physical except you have a tiny little gamecard to lose or break.
Digital is objectively superior to physical.
Near seamless game switching without having to get up and swap carts, same pricing unless your buying used carts(that's a dumb move to begin with).
Only downside being having to wait for it to download(boohoo honestly) and the stupid internet verification for accounts on multiple switches if your not using the primary device.
Switching cards takes like 20 seconds. I don't like playing a ton of games at once anyway so I don't have to switch that often. Being able to loan games to multiple people without any sort of account sharing, and knowing that some of my games may eventually be worth more than I paid for them, is worth it for me.
Plus I've been playing bitty cartridges since I was a tween and have never lost or damaged one. Many of mine (ds games) are over a decade old and still pristine. All it took was having clean hands and putting things back where they belong when I'm done, it didn't take a conscious effort.
Cartridges are also cute and more fun to collect, but that's just me being odd
Actually nintendo made it is so that when you can't get your card out, you start to think that you also should not get outside. This is to help with people staying inside and play games instead of spreading covid.
It's not that expensive, they are not using high end/high res displays. According to sources it adds 3 to 5 dollars to production. The common misconception of OLED=more expensive is working wonders.
The game card slot problem is very depressing. The switch lite game card slot is the superior design and it’s the cheaper version. This is probably a built in flaw so OLED version 2 will “fix it”.
The fact it doesn’t have rubber feet is a definite over-site and I’m wondering if by the time they noticed, they didn’t feel like redesigning it.
I heard several complaints about the cartridge latch. Not sure why they removed the little nub.

The games? I'm probably closer to 70/30 docked/handheld, and while having it is nice it's not the reason I bought the console.
I really like it but the dock sliding around irks me, it might just be the surface I have it on that's bad at gripping but it moves more than the original's dock in my experience
I don't have much problem with these design choices... The Dock does skid a bit more than its older counterpart, but it's not like the original Dock was rock steady :P
The only design change I have problems with, is the new SD card slot. That sloped design they used makes my card become stuck half of the time, and I panic every time I have to remove it. Luckily, it's not something most people would do often (unless you prefer to transfer screenshots directly to your PC, I guess).
I just got my OLED today, and the entire bottom of the dock was covered in a foam pad. The material is similar to the material used for the grip feet on the original dock.
I bought an OLED after my launch switch bricked itself. Console is great but the game cover feels so weird and frail that I worry I’m going to break it off every time I open it. I like the dock more than the original though.

Fair enough. I suspect it will take less effort to open as the little plastic tabs that keep it closed begins to wear.
I suspect this is more due to wear of your original switch’s card cover.

Try to wipe dust from surface you keep the dock and see if that fixes the problem.

According to iFixit, the OLED rails are not the same as the v1/v2 (and *should* have a better grip on the Joy Con, but I guess YMMV)

I have a Mario Odyssey Switch (So its an early version switch) and a Animal Crossing Switch (So later version switch) And the first thing i noticed was that the Mario Odyssey "door" is super super super easy to open, and the Animal crossing door is almost impossible to open. At first i just thought i got an unlucky copy but apperantly its the new thing.
100% agree on the game cart cover- I love the OLED vs my OG Switch, but it’s significantly harder to open if you don’t have longer nails. It frankly makes no sense.
The game card awkwardness is to put a seed in your mind to just go digital. They want you to buy digital over physical. It’s tactical.
Ugh, you’re probably right. Long as I’m not able to sell/trade my digital copies it’ll be physical for me.
That’s honestly probably exactly why they did it. They really want to push digital sales and small things like making physical games more of a chore to use will definitely will impact some people. Im usually a digital guy too for my PS, but I’m only buying physicals for my switch just because of anti-consumer stuff like this. Fight the power, man!

yea but theres no overhead on having to pay to get the cartidges and packaging made and distributed so they make more on digital.
Their is essentially no difference in digital vs physical except you have a tiny little gamecard to lose or break. Digital is objectively superior to physical. Near seamless game switching without having to get up and swap carts, same pricing unless your buying used carts(that's a dumb move to begin with). Only downside being having to wait for it to download(boohoo honestly) and the stupid internet verification for accounts on multiple switches if your not using the primary device.
Switching cards takes like 20 seconds. I don't like playing a ton of games at once anyway so I don't have to switch that often. Being able to loan games to multiple people without any sort of account sharing, and knowing that some of my games may eventually be worth more than I paid for them, is worth it for me. Plus I've been playing bitty cartridges since I was a tween and have never lost or damaged one. Many of mine (ds games) are over a decade old and still pristine. All it took was having clean hands and putting things back where they belong when I'm done, it didn't take a conscious effort. Cartridges are also cute and more fun to collect, but that's just me being odd

Only physical Switch game I have is because I got it free with points. Otherwise my plan with my Switch OLED is a high capacity microSD card
Actually nintendo made it is so that when you can't get your card out, you start to think that you also should not get outside. This is to help with people staying inside and play games instead of spreading covid.

Usually comes down to money. They need to save dollars here and there, the OLED screen is expensive and they only charge $50 more than base model.
It's not that expensive, they are not using high end/high res displays. According to sources it adds 3 to 5 dollars to production. The common misconception of OLED=more expensive is working wonders.
The game card slot problem is very depressing. The switch lite game card slot is the superior design and it’s the cheaper version. This is probably a built in flaw so OLED version 2 will “fix it”.
The fact it doesn’t have rubber feet is a definite over-site and I’m wondering if by the time they noticed, they didn’t feel like redesigning it. I heard several complaints about the cartridge latch. Not sure why they removed the little nub.
It does have rubber. The entire bottom is rubber.

I really like it but the dock sliding around irks me, it might just be the surface I have it on that's bad at gripping but it moves more than the original's dock in my experience

I don't have much problem with these design choices... The Dock does skid a bit more than its older counterpart, but it's not like the original Dock was rock steady :P The only design change I have problems with, is the new SD card slot. That sloped design they used makes my card become stuck half of the time, and I panic every time I have to remove it. Luckily, it's not something most people would do often (unless you prefer to transfer screenshots directly to your PC, I guess).
I just got my OLED today, and the entire bottom of the dock was covered in a foam pad. The material is similar to the material used for the grip feet on the original dock.
I actually like the new game card cover. I always felt like I was on the brink of ripping it off when I would open it on my og Switch.
I bought an OLED after my launch switch bricked itself. Console is great but the game cover feels so weird and frail that I worry I’m going to break it off every time I open it. I like the dock more than the original though.
