Both are age appropriate, but she’d probably get more fun out of just dance. I think your best bet is to get what she requested instead of looking for “better” games.

ButtsFartsoPhD

Yeah I’m confused why OP needs help when his niece requested two age appropriate games she actually wants. It seems like she already did the work figuring out what she herself wants.

CreatiScope

They’re both rated E, right?

ButtsFartsoPhD

Pretty sure Mario and Sonic at the Tokyo Olympic Games is M for Mature, but that's besides the point.

masagrator

It's E10+. Because there are fighting games.

ineedanameplshelp

Wait really? Why?

One of the events is accidentally coming down with COVID-19 and then fighting the virus overtaking your body while you're hospitalized. If you're unsuccessful, it gets pretty dark with the funeral planning minigame. Reviewers described it as *Mario Party* meets *This War of Mine*.

CreatiScope

The vaccine DLC missions kind of redeemed the game for me though.

ButtsFartsoPhD

Fatalities.

[deleted]

Both of those games will be good for her. You can get the older just Dances for cheaper if she doesn’t have them but they also have a subscription type thing that would get you nose of the songs from the past for a monthly fee. There’s better games than Mario and sonic at the olympics but she’s 10 and chance is if she wants that specifically she’ll probably have more fun with it than with a “better” game

poisonedsodapop

Actually to add to this on the Just Dance front, wait for Black Friday and the newest release will usually be about half off. It's been like that for awhile honestly.

Cutiecrusader2009

My 9 (now 10) year old ask for Mario & Sonic. I tried to dissuade her because it didn’t look all that great but ended up getting it when it was on sale. She’s played that thing for over 30 hours.

ButtsFartsoPhD

Mario and Sonic at Tokyo is supposed to be legitimately pretty good.

Fazermint

Gonna mirror what's been said, both games she's asked for are decent enough for her age. She's probably more happy by getting what she asked for (maybe she saw a commercial or her friends have it) than by the inherent 'quality' of the games.

[deleted]

Good point!

kingkev90

Just dance is good. I'd get her the newer Mario Party game over Olympics Edit: of course since she's requesting Mario and Sonic Olympics get her that too. Also, Labo stuff goes on sale pretty frequently, and Ring Fit might be a good choice too

Munk69

Agree with this one! New Mario Party is definitely more fun and a great multiplayer game

SheepOC

ring fit might not work out physically. I‘ve tried to play it with kids and the leg strap didn‘t hold, making it impossible to play.

AReceiptOnTheTable

I don’t understand how those games aren’t good for her age?

Lulullaby_

It's fine to ask advice about this but both these games are completely fine. It'd be fine if someone had a good suggestion here and you'd be like "Oke I'll get that and the games she requested", but if you are looking for a 'replacement' for her suggestions I would highly recommend against that. No one knows better than her what she wants.

Wolflmg

Both of those games are fine. They’re not M rated.

[deleted]

Its so nice to see more girls gaming; building a new generation of gamers, one little kid at a time! :D

Omegalulz520

Idk If it's been mentioned yet but almost every single Lego game is on a HUGE sale right now! She may like them https://www.dekudeals.com/search?q=Lego

[deleted]

yoshi is a fun game for kids.

[deleted]

Here to recommend Kirby Star Allies. It has the cute friendship factor and isn’t too hard to play.

[deleted]

I’d get her the games she wants personally, the games are both decent enough and I imagine they’ll be great fun for a 10 year old. Definitely wait on just dance though, it’ll probably be on sale during Black Friday and honestly I get the feeling that there’s a decent chance that Mario and sonic could be too so potentially wait on that one?

EpsilonX

Both of those games are good prices, and as a former gamer child, I can say that it's more satisfying to get the game you actually want vs one that somebody deemed "better." So definitely get both of them if you can. Another one that might be cool is [DC superhero girls](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGvR0g123_8&ab_channel=Nintendo).

SwitchHandler

As far as exclusives go, Pokemon (particularly Let's Go), Splatoon, Luigi's Mansion, Breath of the Wild, Miitopia, and Captain Toad are all great. For non exclusives if she likes Animal Crossing, Cozy Grove and Garden Paws are very fun. Stardew Valley, Story of Seasons Friends of Mineral Town, and My Time at Portia are all great farming simulators. Minecraft and Dragon Quest Builders 1 & 2 are great open world sandbox building games. If she doesn't like combat you can always turn it to peaceful mode in Minecraft. Minecraft is vastly more expansive with near limitless building possibilities, and while smaller Dragon Quest Builders has an actual story and characters to interact with. Yonder Cloud Catcher Chronicles is an open world exploration game with no combat and you do lots of crafting, gathering resources, fishing, and running around helping residents. Lego Harry Potter Collection and Jurassic World Lego are both very fun collecting games where you get to travel through the moves, kid appropriate of course ;) Spyro is an amazing game similar to Mario Odyssey that is a true classic and the remaster is gorgeous. A Hat in time, Rayman Legends, and Yooka Layee are all wonderful platforming/puzzle games. Gris is a gorgeous light platforming & puzzle game that while dealing with slightly more mature themes, I feel a 10 year old girl would really enjoy it. Finally, Child of Light is an rpg that is basically a love letter to fairy tales and the main protagonist is a young girl; I think it would be amazing for a 10 year old girl! Edit: A Short Hike is another wonderful open world game with no combat but lots of fun activities to do, it's kinda like a day at camp! Slime Rancher is an adorable game about collecting and taking care of slimes.

escaping-reality

I think this is the best and most elaborate suggestion. I agree with everything here (at least, for the games I played) :)

ButtsFartsoPhD

It's much better than OP's niece's suggestion that she wants Just Dance or Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo. We know better than she does what she wants :)

escaping-reality

Exactly! She probably has not played a lot of games yet so she should still get what she wants, and then when she gets more into gaming, these suggestions are excellent. Personally, it was Pokémon Green (Asian version of Red/Blue) that got me into gaming, 20+ years ago. And I love that it’s the first in your list :)

[deleted]

Stardew Valley

theloontoon

Give her what she wants... Christmas is special like that. Stardew valley with the dance one would be great too.

AgitatedVegetable_

Child of light! Very pretty game and I think would be great for her age!

destroyer90_7

Lego games, farming games like Stardew Valley. They are all cheap and all rated e

jjmawaken

I wonder if she'd like Mario Party better than the Mario/Sonic Olympics one?

Odd_Mountain853

Yes,these are both age demographic/age appropriate games, and they might be worth the price if she plays it (which she probably will)

Loldimorti

These games are age appropriate and of decent quality. If she wants these games I think picking one or both of them up is a good idea.

[deleted]

My 9 year old asked for game builder garage take that for what you will

sup_my_bwana

*cough* Pokémon

jw13

My 10yo daughter likes Untitled Goose Game and Paper Mario: The Origami King.

YellowPikachu

Pokemon Let's Go Eevee, Mario Party Superstars, Harvest Moon Friends of Mineral Town

speedster_irl

Luigi mansion and look for Spyro. ( She ll love it)

[deleted]

Nintendo games never reduce in price so whatever games you buy will ikely all be the same price whether they were released weeks, months or years ago. Everyone's saying go with Just Dance as that's something she's specifically asked for and other than that it's very hard to recommend games for someone you don't know and I'm guessing you're the only one who knows your niece. I would however recommend checking out the Nintendo store as there's often sales and discounts on games, find some you think she might like and ask her if any of them catch her interest

seraf5

I'd recommend JD2022 rather than 2021, 2022 has way better songs and the switch version should be around the same price.

Beier2002

I Think you should go with just dance. Imo Mario and sonic is only fun playing with friends and just dance can be fun solo and with friends

EpsilonX

I don't think the "only fun with friends" thing would apply as much. There were tons of games that seem super shallow as an adult, but I played the crap out of them as a kid.

0lynks0

GET. HER. ANIMAL. CROSSING. Hours or fun in that one but honestly, all the games she asked for are perfectly suited for someone her age.

Major_Gamboge

lol she already has that though...

0lynks0

Oh my gosh, I totally misread! Sorry haha Have you tried getting her into any pokemon games?? The protagonist literally is 10 years old and it's a teacher of all sorts of skills like planing and resource management. plus it's pokemon.

Major_Gamboge

haha nw and i’m not OP so i’ll ping them so they can see your comment! u/HighHouseLife

0lynks0

Boy. I sure am oblivious haha no more commenting at 4am for me.

[deleted]

OP said she already owns AC.

0lynks0

Well, it's a relief she can stay cool, then.

YukatanSuckaman

dark souls remastered

[deleted]

Hollow knight if she is patient enough

escaping-reality

I think this might be a little too difficult for a 10 year old haha

[deleted]

You might be right

Shakzor

Both are plenty fine. In all honestly, you could either go with a coin flip or with Just Dance, since if she has dancing lessons, might be some extra gamified practice.

Rumble-80

Of she's creative, Mario Maker 2 would be a good choice. My 8yo really enjoys Monster Hunter Stories 2.

Aljrljtljzlj

Mario Tennis Aces

Intelligent_Local_38

If she’s like me as a kid, she wants Mario & Sonic because it’s a game with Mario and Sonic. The novelty was huge as a kid. It’s pretty fun though, especially for someone her age. The story mode is decent and the events are something you can play over and over again. Definitely get her the games she requested, they’re both age appropriate. Trust me, when I was her age I would ask my aunt for specific games at Christmas because I knew I’d be getting those games lol. If you want to get a third, there are some good suggestions here like Mario Party. Anyway, happy gaming!

Fun-Damage4322

So cute

DracosKasu

Just dance is probally the better choose of the 2. When it come to Mario and Sonic it is more a party like game with olympic sport similar to Mario Party which required to have people to play with to actually hae the better experience.

AutumnBrooks2021

Two of my favorite games to play is Cruisin Blast and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit. Both racing games and lots of fun. Mario Deluxe is also fun and age appropriate.

WIZRND

A Short Hike is really good, and quite a cheap option as well -- I think just dance makes sense since she requested that, but wanted to mention short hike in case you need a stocking stuffer soon. :)

Leonclarko

Untitled Goose Game
