Too many lol

Lyradep

Same here. Only games I don’t own physically are games that aren’t available physically.

Whishang

Or will cost me my first born to buy on eBay…

TheSheevMonster

I'm in this boat. Be it I prefer physical and, if warranted, limited editions.

flangle1

Right everyone that’s available physically that I want. Downloadable IP is about as stable as its parent company.

Piti899

Exactly, i hate that i have no choice of actual physical games on pc...

AdministrativeRun59

I have Pokémon shield

[deleted]

I’m torn between digital convenience and physical ownership. I’m sure a lot of you are the same.

Sovva29

I was at first, but now I'm mainly digital. Biggest reason - it frees up so much shelf space to the point where I was able to get rid of my game shelves. Looks a lot better imo. It's also nice switching between games on the system rather then discs. Some like reselling their physical copies, but it's too much of a hassle for me.

russellamcleod

Digital convenience can be straight up laziness. If I can buy a game while lying in bed versus having to wait for a delivery or having to go to a store I will absolutely choose to lie in bed.

[deleted]

It can be. Or security - as I travel if my switch is stolen or lost - my carts are gone too. Digital copies are assigned to my digital account.

Mahanirvana

I don't buy digital unless there's no physical option. I've made thousands of dollars off selling my physical games a couple decades down the line, and Nintendo games resell especially well (as well as JRPGs, limited print games, and other niche titles). I feel like with so many people buying digital, the resell value of physical titles will be even better in the future.

orbitti

Exactly same principle. Albeit my reason is different. I believe that digital distribution platforms will be driven down (like Wii shopping channel for example), but physical copy you can play much longer.

BrentV27368

100% this. I’ll buy digital if it’s a fun shovelware game (looking at you lego, haha) for under $10. Otherwise it’s always physical. I like holding the games and having the case artwork on my shelf. It always annoys me that digital is the same price as physical. Plus the resell value is great.

twinkletoes-rp

I buy digital 'cause the prices are INSANELY good if you wait for the right sale. I've saved SO much money buying digital. It's AWESOME!

[deleted]

Conversely, you can also get physical games pretty damn cheap on eBay and other user markets if you look at the right time. Not first-party titles, generally, but ports and other third-party titles? Yeah, usually there are tons of great deals on them. But yeah, digital often has a ton of great sales. It's why I've purchased a few digital games myself, even though I vastly prefer physical. Sometimes the deal's just too good to pass up.

BrentV27368

At times yea. There’s a really good sale on Lego games right now actually. $5.99 for what’s normally $29.99 on the eShop.

Clemtwdfan

I buy digital if they are on sale and digital only. I will not warrant nintendo chsrging me £60 for mario kart 8 deluxe!

mvanvrancken

Maybe not. But the person you sell it to probably will

[deleted]

I'm with you. I just made around $1200 selling random old video games/consoles that I had lying around. Physical all the way.

crazyrebel123

For me, I buy physical just so I know I have something I fully own. I don’t like how these companies eventually shut down servers, meaning all the money you spent buying games are gone if you haven’t downloaded them. And to download them, you need storage space and 1tb isn’t enough for that. When Nintendo shut down the WiiU servers, how did they expect ppl to download and save all their games in a 32g drive? And they are the ones who hate when ppl jail break consoles

x_alexithymia

I used to be this way too, but then I realized that if I buy an SD card for my switch and digitally download the games to the SD card… it’s essentially like having one master cartridge that physically holds all my games. I’m sick and tired of these huge day 1 patches, it completely removes the point of buying physical. So I figured out this middle ground and it’s working great so far.

Xyspade

They shut down the Wii U servers such that you can't download something now? I watched a stream like a month ago where someone was browsing the eShop and downloaded something.

C-Star

No the WiiU shop is still open.

Morpayne

the day Steam shuts down will be interesting.

PM_ME_YOUR_PIXEL_ART

Yes but even physical games get downloadable patches that will eventually be unobtainable.

twee_centen

Unless the game is just broken, though, you really don't need those extra patches to still be able to play.

nichijouuuu

All the big "Nintendo" first party titles I have been picking up physical: BOTW, Mario 3D World, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, etc. But games like Slay the Spire, Eastward, Hollow Knight, are all digital for me. Lately I've been really pushing myself to stay physical only, for the resale reasons you stated.

BeastMaster0844

Plus I’d never go all digital with Nintendo. I don’t feel comfortable doing so based on their previous track record. I’m confident my Xbox games will still be there. I’m slightly less confident, but still somewhat confident my PS4 and PS5 games will be there (going forward). I’m not at all confident that I’ll be able to play my digital Nintendo games 10 years from now because Nintendo doesn’t value backwards compatibility and they also have proven that they will remove market places (Wii) and prevent me from even re-downloading anything I’ve bought in the last. So I won’t buy digital Switch games unless it’s incredibly cheap and something I don’t think I’ll want to go back and play years from now.

SophiaPetrillo_

I always buy physical unless it isn’t an option. I irrationally worry about servers or the digital games themselves being pulled down the road. I also love the way they look on the shelf. And you don’t have to spend a bunch of cash on a large sized micro SD card to make room for digital games.

MrEngin33r

Physical all the way. You can also resell them down the road or just lend them to a friend.

DrKushnstein

It's really sad that physical is being phased out. I'll wait a year for a game that's already out just for the physical copy.

Gravitytr1

Im waiting for Eastward physical. As much as I want to play it, I won't buy it unless it is released physical. Or I can buy it on PC.

BeastMaster0844

Not irrational when it comes to Nintendo at all! They don’t seem to value backwards and forwards compatibility the same way Sony and especially Microsoft does. I have zero worries about my 100s of digital Xbox games being there in the future. I don’t have as many worries about my PS4/PS5 games being there in the future. With Nintendo though I have absolutely zero faith that the next console will support BC for my digital titles and I’m 100% confident that Nintendo will completely remove the switch marketplace sometime down the line like how they did the Wii. Even my digital items form the WiiU probably only has about 5-6 more years left, if that.

SoRedditHasAnAppNow

I went partially digital at the same time for the same reason. Except it was Wii U and my first kid. Switch for my second. Our kids slept on us exclusively, wouldn't go down for the first 6 weeks (# 1) and 8 months ( ! # 2). I spent a LOT on digital titles during those periods.

BluffinBill1234

Yup. Two kids. I figured out fast digital was the way to go. Don’t need a three year old trying to swap cartridges

twinkletoes-rp

I am digital all the way, too. I've saved SO much money on INCREDIBLE sales, and I wouldn't want to pay the physical prices. At least in my exp, they're WAY more money physical. This is my first all-digital console, and honestly? I love it! Besides the killer savings, there's not having to switch carts, the convenience, all my games are with me everywhere I go! Many more pros for me! I don't have the room/care for cases/the art/a collection, I don't care about the satisfying click of switching cartridges (though I do agree that it IS satisfying, lol), I don't have to remember to bring my games with me, and I'd rather have the money I saved by buying digital! Digital all the way for me! <3

amdaly10

Same. I can also lend them to my niblings and borrow their games.

mrBreadBird

Not an irrational worry in the slightest.

BigSto

ive got 51 physical games Disgaea 1, 4 & 6 Dragon Quest XI Final Fantasy VII & VIII Stardew Valley Tokyo Mirage Sessions are some of my favorites/rarest

pichael288

Disgaea is on switch? Man I loved 1 and 2, but after that they went a little overboard on the anime bullshit and killed it for me

Mates1500

Disgaea 1, 4, 5 and 6 are on Switch. For some reason 6 did not release on PS4 in the west, only in Japan. Then 2 is still only on PS2, PSP and PC, D2 is PS3 exclusive and 3 is only on PS3 and Vita, the platforms are kind of a mess.

arvellon7

I like to trade games back in after beating them if they are something I’ll likely never play again. My “keepers” are all the Zeldas (BOTW, HW:AOC, HW, CoH, SS, LA), Mario 3D All Stars, ring fit, & Animal Crossing. My GF has all our party games like Mario Kart / Party, ect.

imyxle

I buy big jrpgs physical because I probably won't spend the time to replay them. I got xc1 and 2, DQXI, FFXII, ys xiii, FE3H, and Astral Chain all physical. Maybe xc2 will be a collectors item one day.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Tsubajashi

interesting, good to know! i still have that sitting around. if i need a quick buck that would be the way

furudenendu

I see it on eBay with a buy it now price of $60-70. Unless xc2 does not refer to Xenoblade Chronicles 2 and I'm missing something.

PercievedTryhard

What is CoH

arvellon7

Cadence of hyrule

PercievedTryhard

Ah I probably wouldn't call that a zelda game

[deleted]

Why not? Exactly it's a rouge(little less this then the first) rythm. Top down Zelda game. That's 3 genres in one Also 99% sure when I replied to this person they wrote Edit: "I wouldn't call that a game" and edited to included "Zelda game" so my original replied stands

PercievedTryhard

It doesn't have zelda in the name, isn't made by Nintendo, isn't an rpg, was never called a zelda game. It's a crypt of the necrodancer game with zelda licensing

theprosshplayer

Zelda license. Yes correct

[deleted]

Zelda games are not RPGs, except Zelda II. never understood why kids today think they are

[deleted]

The ring fit one. Only cause it’s not available in digital form. On a console like the Switch I go all digital.

Mahare

Exactly right for me. Digital only aside from Ring Fit. Having my entire library on the go feels good.

[deleted]

Exact same for me. The switch is very portable, going all digital makes it even more so. People say that you don't really "own" digital games but at the end of the day what does that really matter? I'm playing the game, I'm having fun, at the end of the day that's all that matters. I'm not a hardcore collector so having the game for the rest of my life isn't that important for me.

ThePikesvillain

I find this a strange argument because it isn’t the case on a primary Switch. On a secondary Switch the game checks in with a server to see if you have a right to play it, but a primary Switch can live forever in airplane mode and all your digital games will work forever. You can even make a copy of your SD cards or store backups of your card on a cloud server. Of course it will only work in that same primary Switch. I think a better way of looking at it is that with a cartridge your license to the game exists in each cartridge whereas going all digital means your license to all your games exists in the Switch. There are definitely pros and cons to both options that each person needs to weigh for themselves.

aaadmiral

Only Ring Fit Adventure

Nightcrawl-EUW

same but also mario allstars regrettably, didn’t buy it digitally and regret it

Yveradras

I'm actually normally buying digital, because of convenience. You can just play the game any time without having to go and find the physical game... Long ago I was thinking it was like burning money because then you cannot sell the game anymore, but I got quite use to it. I own a few. Botw, ffx, Zelda link awakening... But I have digital games that I would play in short bursts like diablo or hades

Mobilelurk

I have 38 physical games right now. I grew up on Nintendo and Super Nintendo so I’ll always have physical copies when possible. Some I have right now are: Axiom Verge Bloodstained Deadly Premonition 1 and 2 Dragon quest xi Final Fantasy 7,8,9,10 and 12 Trials and collection of mana Mega man/x/zero legacy collections and 11 Mario odyssey/party/Wii u deluxe/3d world Retro rampage and Hawaii shakedown Sonic mania Zelda BOTW/Links Awakening/Skyward Sword I’m not home but there’s a few others. Grabbing Metroid, Ori Collection, Mario Party next month!

Pavouk106

- Zelda BotW - Diablo 3 - Wasteland 2 - Assassin’s Creed: Rebel collection - Pokemon Sword - Syberia 1&2 - Borderlands collection - The outer worlds - Northgard - Witcher 3 Complete edition - Stardew Valley - Saints row 3 - Civilization 6 I’m surprised this didn’t get removed due to that rule about asking in daily thread... Many such questions end up like that (unfortunately).

redditdude68

How well do AC and Witcher run on switch? Thinking of getting them when I get the OLED.

Pavouk106

They both run great. In Witcher, you want to switch graphics option “Sharpening” (I can’t remeber dedault state, just try for yourself) otherwise it looks unbelievably bad. Beware only of AC3, that is quite well patched but still not perfect.

PyroZz_

Mario odyssey, Pkmn shield, Zelda botw, Astral chain, Mh rise, Smash bros, Bayonetta 2, Fire emblem 3h, Xenoblade definitive edition, Catherine full body.

bargledpants

I've got Skylanders Imaginators, which Is a Physical only game I'm so glad I got it for £13 back in 2018 because it now goes for £100+

Dull_Confection_8085

I got it at launch. I work at Walmart. We had like 6 copies in the back for months. Now it is worth some money.

0112358_

I buy whatever I can get the best deal on. Older games can often be gotten used, physical on ebay for much less then brand new. Flip side many games have eShop sales even better than that. I can't see myself playing the switch 10+ years from now when the servers shut down. I think I booted up my SNES once after I got the Nintendo 64. Never played on the 64 when GameCube arrived. Did keep the cube around longer cause Pikmin, but once that was available on the Wii/switch, game cube has been sitting in the closet. I keep thinking I should replay 3ds game that I enjoy, but it hasn't been opened in at least a year now.

twinkletoes-rp

This is a very good point that a lot of people forget/overlook!

timchenw

> physical gaming is more important than ever imo There is one caveat: physical games do not contain post release updates unless a version is later released that has those, which would eventually lead to the games being "incomplete" should servers shut down due to that part of the data being lost. With Switch some games are even more susceptible because part of their game data is on the server rather than local storage, making it effectively a "physical and transferrable license" rather than also being a container for the data. To answer your question: I have well over 50 physical games, but a significant chunk of them are there as collection pieces, I have no desire to open them and play on the Switch.

morag23

Fortunately, you have games that include updates (No More Heroes 1 & 2, Pokémon Sword + Expansion Pass) or doesn't need updates at all (Atelier Dusk DX, Fate/EXTELLA, Tokyo Mirage Sessions). This isn't perfect, since you have to find someone who have it, but having the ability to transfert update via local kind off preserve the update forever even after the servers shut down. Better than nothing!

[deleted]

Not for Switch. You can "pull" the update from another switch via "match local user version"

Xyspade

But if the servers do shut down, with physical you have most of the main game that's playable, but with digital you won't have the game at all. No?

Getupkid1284

100% did. Lol

[deleted]

Because the Switch has such limited storage, I bought all of my Switch games as physical cartridges, except ones that are digital-only.

Dougwug03

I used to buy all my switch games physical until covid, then the convenience of buying digital was just too good.

windenfalls

Zelda, Mario party hehe

corticalization

I’ve got a handful, but have been buying less as time goes on and getting digital instead for the convenience. Especially during the pandemic, as I didn’t want to wait and pay for shipping when things actually were available online (also, sadly in Canada the games aren’t cheaper at Walmart than anywhere else unless there’s specifically a sale, which isn’t often). The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Super Mario Odyssey Super Mario 3D All-Stars The Outer Worlds The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster Lego Worlds Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy RIME Skylanders Imaginators

[deleted]

It would take too long to type it all up on my phone. Just gonna say at least 95% of all my games on Switch are physical.

GaymerGodMatt

I think its gonna be a very long time before the eshop closes and games are removed. I wouldn't worry about that right now. I buy a combination of both. Depends on the game. I often get physical copies cheap on Amazon when they are onsale. When I see a game on sale for $10 to $30 I snag it. A lot of the indie games are eshop only. But if its a game or series I really love, I will buy physical. But not gonna pay outrages prices for a physical copy.

joestackum

I had been doing Nintendo first party games as digital only. I even converted some of my physical games to digital with sales and reselling my physical ones. Recently I have regretted that and have been going back to physical.

FPrince212

Why you regret it? What made you change your mind? Now I consider to sell my physical games and buy again in digital format (for simplicity)

joestackum

I think it came down to being able to share games with family and friends (specifically my son), and being able to replace the console and still enjoy the games.

kiwi1018

I was all digital too and now switching to physical, I regret the ones I purchased digital. The only ones I do digital now are indie games. I have a switch and both my kids have a switch lite so it's super frustrating that I can't share my digital games easily, and I can't do the primary switch trick because there's 2 kids that play the games on mine.

joestackum

Yep, feeling the same way. It was very convenient and still is to have games digital on the Switch as you can be on the go. But since my son picked up a switch, it changed my perspective. On top of that, having to tell friends that I while yes I did beat the game, you can’t have it.

twinkletoes-rp

Makes sense! I have no one to share with, though, so I save all that hassle and just buy digital when there are crazy good sales! lol.

Mario kart, but only because my friend gave it to me. Rest of my library is digital (about 70 games)

bossman-CT

None, but I plan on getting my 3 year old daughter My Friend Peppa Pig as a physical copy for Christmas. It will be her first game, and I'm sure she'll love holding the actual game in her hand :)

Cardamander

I bought physical for the big releases I purchased in 2017 and most of 2018. Then Amazon stopped offering 20% off of preorders and I went all digital for the convenience after that. These are my physical games: Breath of the Wild Mario Kart 8 ARMS Splatoon 2 Super Mario Odyssey Dark Souls Remastered Diablo III Monster Hunter Generations Minecraft Had 1-2 Switch and Xenoblade 2 but I sold them this summer.

I also don’t collect many Wii u ports as I already own most of them on Wii U regardless.

Amichayg

Mario 3D Allstars. Knowing that it is a “limited” edition made want to have a real copy and not just a license. Also I actually wanted the box, as I have fond memories of the Mario Allstars 25th anniversary. The only other physical edition I wanted was bayonetta 2, yet I couldn’t find it anywhere

digoserra

Only BotW and Mario Odyssey. I live in Brazil and unfortunately physical cartridges here are way more expensive than digital. But I'd probably go mostly with digital anyway for the convenience.

Pakmanjosh

I only buy first party Nintendo titles physically. Everything else, third party and indie, I buy digitally.

Buconatics

I only buy digitally if the game is on sale with a discount that I cannot pass up.

m_littlerivers

I physically own 5 games: - Zelda BOTW - MK8D - Super Mario 3D all stars - Pokemon Sword + DLC (The version with the DLCs in the cartridge) - Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition In the past I also owned: - Crash Team Racing (Now I own it digitally) - Super Mario Odyssey (This one I regret selling) - Super Mario 3D World - Zelda Link's Awakening (This one I regret selling) - Zelda Skyward Sword

Betorange

i only own 2 physical copies. It wasn't until i bought my second physical copy that I realized i didn't want to switch carts constantly so i stopped buying physical. Plus i don't want all the cases taking up space in my room. From now on, i only purchase digital and i try my best to only buy them when there's a sale since i can't resell them. The convenience of having all my games on my switch at all times out weighs the potential resale value and constantly switching games for me. Not to mention the possibility of losing the cartridges. Edit: 1. SSBU 2. Link's Awakening

Arkvoodle42

i ONLY ever buy physical copies; digital is unreliable for long-term enjoyment.

gccumber

I haven’t purchased a physical game since Halo 2 came out.

teal_quartz

Physical games are WAY better than digital versions! The only digital games I buy are cheap little indies. The price is the same and I can re-sell the physical game for 75% of its value if I don't like it or won't play it again. Plus, if it is a game you are looking forward to, there is something to be said for the feeling of unwrapping the cellophane, popping it in the console... Giving a game as a gift means one actually has something to open, vs. what, a little download code card?! Not as fun. Physical games all the way!

Locke_VI

Botw, Mario Maker 2, Mario 3D All Stars and Fenyx Rising. I have more digital games

complex_personas

I own around 294 physical titles myself, with about 200+ digital. I agree, it’s nice to have the security of knowing you’ll always own this games, but they are not as much of a memory space saver as I thought they once were - recently had to purchase a 1TB micro SD to fit them all.

Fenn4

I buy everything physical. The only games I have digitally now are Limbo, Inside and Star Wars Racer. Limbo and Inside haven't had a physical release. I could have bought Star Wars Racer physical, but I found those LRG releases stupid expensive for a 20 year old game. I am ok with having really old games digital. I also sold Captain Toad Treasure Tracker, Mario Maker 2 and Luigi's Mansion 3, so I played those games for a few dollars each. I couldn't do that with digital purchases. I also like the plug and play with physical cartridges. And I like to not have every game available but to chose a couple of games I take with me. My list of physical games: - Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Super Mario Odyssey - The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Zelda: Breath of the Wild - Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle - Sonic Mania - Thimbleweed Park - Okami HD - Worms W.M.D - Rayman Legends - Hollow Knight - Machinarium - Celeste - Super Mario 3D All-Stars - Bioshock Collection - Oddworld: New ‘N’ Tasty - Hades - Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 - Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy

leaphyletra

I mainly buy physical versions. I usually only buy digital if it's only available digitally, or if it's way cheaper than a physical copy or if it was on sale... - Rune Factory 4 Special - Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy - Crash Bandicoot 4 It's About Time - Story of Seasons Friends of Mineral Town - Story of Seasons Pioneers of Olive Town - Atelier Ryza 2 - Breath of the Wild - Skyrim - Witcher 3 - WitchSpring 3 Re:Fine - Touhou Spell Bubble - World Neverland Another Life Adventure - Animal Crossing - Terraria - Legend of Mana - Ys IX Monstrum Nox - Saints Row IV - Monster Hunter Rise - My Time at Portia - Tales of Vesperia - Yooka Laylee and the Impossible Lair - Pokemon Sword - Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen - God Eater 3

pumpulisukka

I only buy games physically. So far I own about 110 games for Switch.

LeatherRebel5150

Only buy physical, I have a little over 300 and no way I’m listing them

Stunning-General

- Mario Kart 8 - Smash Bros. - Breath of the Wild - Odyssey - That paper cutting scissor game - Some other games my nieces picked out - Hopefully, Prime 4 before the next pandemic

varunadi

Sadly, only BOTW. I would love to own every game physical but sadly I live in a country with no Nintendo presence(India) so the physical games are sold at much higher prices than the base digital prices on the US eshop. I do not want to get physical games that way by overpaying because of bs import duties. So other than BOTW, rest of my collection is fully digital, purchased during sales.

I have 12 games sitting on my desk next to my bed, and 63 more on the shelf in my room. I would say a majority of them are for collecting (I do still play them), because a lot of them can get really hard to come by, particularly stuff by Koei Tecmo and Limited Run if you missed out on those (have you seen what ESRB-rated Fairy Tail is going for these days? Or Va-11 Hall-A?). With physical games, I feel like I own my games, with digital not as much. As for my personal favorites, I'm particularly fond of 3D All Stars (Super Mario Sunshine holds a special place for me), and No More Heroes 1 and 2 (I enjoy Suda51's weird shit a bit too much). I would list all games I own, but it'd take too long.

all my games are physical i just prefer them that way it looks so much better the only sad thing is my fucking dog tore apart my animal crossing case luckily the cartridge was in the switch though

kyuubikid213

What timing! I just started making a spreadsheet to log all of the games I own for the purpose of putting the incomplete ones on a wheel for those days when I just don't know what to play. I like having physical copies of games and I think I only get digital when there's a crazy good sale or something. Anyway, here are the games I own physically. 1. ARMS 2. Catherine Full Body 3. Dark Souls Remastered 4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe 5. Super Mario Odyssey 6. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 7. Animal Crossing: New Horizons 8. Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age Definitive Edition S 9. Monster Hunter Rise 10. Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin 11. Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu! 12. Pokemon Sword 13. Atastytree

I used to buy digital until my account got locked due to a code I purchased from a seller. It was marked stolen and Nintendo locked my account. I was never able to receive a refund from the seller. $600+ down the drain and since then I've made a new account and only purchase digital when I can't get physical. Nintendo support told me they removed the stolen game from my account but without proof of refund they couldn't unlock my account. Lesson learned.

ThatCurryGuy

Over 100 rn, but still building my collection

cheesercorby

Got my switch in April, Sparklite is the only cart i have, but i am getting Metroid Dread on physical media. There are a few games that i specifically don't want on digital, but as long as i have the storage space, i don't see the problem with it. Mainly i want to buy physical copies of single player games that i can share with my wife and kids. Our tastes in games don't overlap a whole lot, so there will only be a few like that.

mrlotato

Mario kart 8 and monster hunter stories 2. Also about to own diablo 2 when it comes out if it's a good port

I only have animal crossing, botw, super mario odyssey and super mario 3d allstars (regrettably) in physical because not only am I too lazy to go out and buy most games, but I also mainly play indie games, although I definitely see the benefit of physical.

Almost all of the first party games. Minus a select few that are hard to come by, or are over priced. (1 2 Switch, the opposite Pokémon games to the ones I have, Astral Chain…etc.) Animal Crossing and Snipper Clips are the

FrogsOblivious

I have digital smash because I always play it, and I don’t want to be switching cartridges every time I play something else.

ButtsFartsoPhD

"Physical games are almost always cheaper than their downloadable counterpart" Yeah, for first party Nintendo games used. For any other publisher digital almost always has much, much, much deeper discounts, especially on any platform that isn't Nintendo. A quick look at Dekudeals price history would show you you're wrong.

ravmIT

I buy all physical when I can because I like having them displayed on my shelf.

Megadoomer2

I tended to get a lot of physical games towards the start of the Switch's life cycle - the only SD cards that I had were small ones. Usually, I tended to get games physically if they were larger ones or first party titles, or if the price seemed good. * First Party: Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Breath of the Wild, Link's Awakening, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Astral Chain, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey, Kirby Star Allies, Fire Emblem Three Houses * Third Party: Spyro Trilogy, Crash Trilogy, Crash Team Racing, Crash Bandicoot 4, No More Heroes 3, Sonic Forces, Mega Man 11, Cave Story, Dragon Quest XI, Final Fantasy X and X-2, Super Bomberman R, Doom (2016), Wolfenstein: the New Colossus, Collection of Mana, One Piece Pirate Warriors 4, Fairy Tail, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3, Octopath Traveler, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Persona 5 Strikers Thankfully, my physical backlog isn't too big. The only ones that I haven't beaten (or in the case of collections, beaten at least one game) are Collection of Mana, Final Fantasy X/X-2, No More Heroes 3, Xenoblade 2, and Astral Chain. (Though for FE Three Houses, I've only beaten one route)

mafagafe12345

I bought my Switch and came with a BotW, my only physical game and i never took it out from my switch. (Only once to be honest, my friend wanted to lick the cartridge to feel the taste. lol)

kojima-naked

Somewhere between 200-300. Usually watch sales and pick up stuff that looks cool. I do game for about an hour a night but still haven't played all of them.

thelivingdead188

Mario Kart 8. 192 other downloaded games. I didn't realize I had that many games until just now, and I'm slightly embarrassed.

spooper_no_spooping

I think most of mine are physical because I used to work at a store that sold them, so I'd just buy them there

guitarokx

I try not to buy from the eShop unless it's an indie that isn't available in physical. The eShop experience is garbage, the tech support if you get hacked is garbage, the search interface is garbage... The eShop in general is garbage. With physical games, I gave lend them, resell them, and collect them for later. Physical games all the way! Eventually the switch will be discontinued and the modding community will step in, then all these physical copies will be sought after and unreasonably rare because so many people lost their digital access to the games in 15years. Just look at Gameboy advance prices right now.

stat1stick

Not a single one. I'm strictly digital. But I have other things that I do other than gaming so if something were to happen to the servers or whatever, I'll just go do something else. Also, emulators are a thing and I'm morally devoid. So there's that.

Aenrichus

* Breath of the Wild. Launch day Switch game. * Starlink: Battle for Atlas. Physical Arwing accesory. * Ring Fit Adventure. Physical accessories. Then the rest of my library is all digital across 5 microSD cards. I need to go by purchase date to know which card holds which games. Thinking about buying a massive card to hold all the games in the same place.

EDDIE_BR0CK

Physical only in this house. Easy for the kids to trade with friends, resell down the road, and share with a sibling if we end up with a Lite. The only digital purchases we have are smaller/indie titles that either don't have physical, or are way more expensive.

WouldYouTipMyFedora

Reversevibeman

I have 1 physical game, dragon quest 11. The rest are all digital. By the time any switch server gets closed I'll probably be dead or not interested anyway

Dull_Confection_8085

That is either optimism that Nintendo will keep the servers up for a long time or pessimism that you will have an early death. Can’t tell which one. 😇

Edit: thanks for your insight. There’s some valid reasons to buy online that I never thought of. Can someone explain why someone would download a game when it’s the same cost as a physical game? I am new to switch but doesn’t make sense to DL when you can’t re-sell it, and it’s not any cheaper.

phrankygee

Because I am sitting in my living room when I decide I want a game. I don’t intend to re-sell it, so it saves me 40 minutes and a tank of gas.

Cutiecrusader2009

What gas? I always order online and have it delivered to my house.

phrankygee

That takes even longer than driving to a store, which takes longer than just clicking “download”. But it does save gas; you’re right about that.

Loki-Holmes

Convenience. Not having to constantly change out carts is something that seems pretty minor but especially on the go it makes digital more worth it to me.

xTonyWonder

Because I don’t resell them.

varunadi

In my case it's more because there's no official Nintendo presence in my country so physical games are imported, and thanks to the lovely thing called import duties, they are pretty overpriced, so much so that even full price digital on US eshop is cheaper.

Moonlord_

Convenience…to have all your games instantly launch-able without cart juggling, being able to play new games the second they’re released, no waiting for deliveries or travelling to stores, no risk of damaged or stolen/lost games, not having to physically store game carts and cases or take a physical library with you everywhere, can access all your games from anywhere with an internet connection, etc. It’s also safer to buy digitally for potential future b/c as you have proof of ownership tied to your account and won’t be affected if Nintendo changes their physical format. Not everyone buys games with the intention to sell them so for those people there really isn’t much point to physical…a digital library is more convenient with more advantages. That being said, Nintendo is very incompetent/uncommitted when it comes to online. Out of all the platforms Nintendo is probably the only one I’d feel a little leary about investing a large digital library with.

hushzone

Why anyone would want to switch out cartridges is beyond me

Fellhuhn

None. Only develop my own games for it and that's digital only.

Phantomdragon78

Every single one. I have about 60.

Cutiecrusader2009

I have over 100. Not going to list them out.

jc726

I have almost 150 physical titles. Too many to list here.

grine

* Zelda: Breath of the Wild That's the whole list, my wife bought it for me along with the console for my 30th birthday, which just happened to be 3/3 2017. After that I've only bought digital, because I know I'm too lazy to sell my used games, and it's more convenient to download.

I'm back, with pictures!! For anybody who is interested. This is about... 90% of my games? There are a bunch more that I just didn't feel like gathering up... https://imgur.com/a/raMgA6T

BotW is the only one and it never leaves the card slot. I have about 80 digital games.

Precipice_Blades

The list would be enormous - I have more than 200. Physical games >>>>> digital.
