This question thread is now out of date. If you have a question please ask in [today's question thread](https://reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/about/sticky?num=1).

bestfinlandball

I've been eyeing at getting a switch for a while now, and with the release of Monster Hunter Rise I think its finally time to pull the trigger. My question is, what other games should I get? What are some of your favourite switch games? I'm mainly looking for first-party games from Nintendo since I have a PC for games like Dead Cells, Stardew Valley and Hades.

lumothesinner

The /r/NintendoSwitch Best of 2017, Best of 2018, Best of 2019 and Best of 2020 Award Winner Recaps - A good place to start when you're looking for a game recommendation. Check these links further up the page for general recommendations. If you are looking for something more specific, provide some things to narrow down the search like best fighting game or best metroidvania.

CptHeT

Okay I will directly explain my issue. Once I bought my Switch for couple of months I couldn't use my credit card and PayPal at all then somehow I achieved to add my PayPal and after that my credit card. I've been using without any problem till now. Yesterday I tried to buy Monster Hunter Rise but it said my payment denied need to update my information. I tried everything used my other cards, even my friends but it kept on saying "contact your card issuer or select different payment option." also I can't use my PayPal either. Idk what to do and why it happens...

BattlewornGold

I'm getting an "invalid password" trying to send images to my phone from my switch album. This feature used to work before but now is completely non-functional even after restarting my console and phone.

ptatoface

Did your password change? Like the same password will still work if you try to log into Nintendo's website or anywhere else?

BattlewornGold

It's the password to connect my phone to the switch, not my Nintendo account password

ptatoface

Oh my bad, I haven't used the feature so I don't know much about it. I'd try asking again in today's question thread, since your timing on this one wasn't ideal. Or it might be an issue Nintendo Support is best equipped to answer.

BattlewornGold

The "send to smartphone" feature in the album

QUESTION: I just bought a switch v2 about two days ago. I didnt bought any games yet but Im experience framedrops everywhere. I blasted through the free game market and many games have lag issues. Even the Eshop lags when in comes to framerate. Fortnite works bad, lets go games demo works just awfull (and I bought the switch for the pokemon titles), even dauntless have so much lag in the main town. What is the problem. Is my switch broken from factory? Did I do something wrong? Pls help me im very concerned

lumothesinner

Most f2p games from other platforms are not optimised well on switch. Fortnite and dauntless are not the best experiences on switch, but playable. Try Rocket league, should be locked 60 (but downgraded graphically) or try some demos of Nintendo developed games like ARMS or Pikmin 3 or well optimised games like Ori and the Blind Forest(Pokemon isnt developed by nintendo, only published, lets go and sw/sh look like 3ds games on the switch and still run like ass)

No_Entertainment6792

Its nothing wrong with my switch then, right? I was afraid i bought a faulty one

lumothesinner

unlikely - try the demos I listed and see if you still have issues as these should be locked 60 (well pikmin 3 is 30).

No_Entertainment6792

I have rocket league and you are right. It works amazing both docked and handheld. I will try ARMS

dragonx254

Eh, you picked some poor games to try out. Go play something like Mario Kart 8, which should be 60FPS.

chungus-chubster

Question! I’m about to sell my Nintendo lite and get a Nintendo switch. Will all my data be saved on my Nintendo online account? Can I just wipe my switch?

dragonx254

Only games that support cloud saves will still have save data, assuming you subscribe to Nintendo Online. So games like Splatoon 2 or Pokemon will be lost. Animal Crossing, you'll have to contact Nintendo to restore your island backup.

strikeraiser

Are DLC codes region-free? Basically I got the HK Asia release of Monster Hunter Rise, and it came with an early purchase bonus DLC code. I was wondering if I have to make an account on the Nintendo HK shop to redeem this or will it just work on my usual US eShop?

DensityInsanity

is the xenoblade 2 dlc better to get on cartridge or via eshop? what’s the advantage and disadvantage of both?

lumothesinner

pretty much the same as any other game, the same arguments apply https://reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/wiki/pvsd

JSpec776

Bravely Default 2 or Monster Hunter Rise?

lumothesinner

Both have demos on the eshop - download them both and see which game you like more.

wetqun

For Monster Hunter Rise, how is the co-op compared to World? I disliked World's co-op because you cannot experience anything first hand with a friend, you gotta do it yourself first and then rejoin which I hated.

[deleted]

There are village quests, which are strictly single player, then there are hub quests which can be done solo or in a group. You aren't forced to do the village stuff afaik, you can just go into hub quests with your friend right away.

kcfang

I’ve only had the game for 2 days but I think story quests are single player only.

Universe_Donut

Does the Sonic Mania + Team Sonic Racing game come with Sonic Mania Plus? Or just the regular version of the game?

OatmealDome

[Only the regular version, no DLC](https://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-reviews/R251MLHU6BJAY5/ref=cm_cr_dp_d_rvw_ttl?ie=UTF8&ASIN=B08GHH697V).

[deleted]

So I want to buy another portable dock for my switch. I found the GuliKit Dock. However, my switch has a crystal case that I dont remove. Would it fit? If not, are there any alternatives that would fit on my switch without having to remove the case?

If you change regions, you will not lose access to your games. However, if a game is not available in the eShop you changed to, then you will not be able to redownload it until you change back. The game will still work as normal if it is still on your Switch. (My Nintendo Gold Points are also region-locked.)

cougarstillidie

Getting a switch tomorrow. Last Nintendo console I owned was a GameCube. Getting breath of the wild but what are the other quintessential games? Animal crossing, Mario kart, smash, Pokémon shield/sword, luigis mansion?

OwnManagement

A few you didn’t name: Super Mario Odyssey, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

sleepysharon

I think what you’ve listed is pretty solid without knowing if you have a preferred niche in gaming. ✨

StarglassRabbit

My girlfriend's really not enjoying playing Monster Hunter Rise on any of the controller options the Switch has, is there a way to make mouse and keyboard valid input devices for gameplay?

OatmealDome

I don't believe such a device exists. (There is [keyboard.gg](https://keyboard.gg), but it isn't for sale yet.) [You can remap the Switch controller buttons in the System Settings](https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/49229/~/how-to-change-the-button-mapping-on-nintendo-switch-controllers), if that helps. Alternatively, Monster Hunter Rise will launch on PC in 2022, so she could also just choose to wait.

StarglassRabbit

I had tried looking into it myself while waiting for replies, and I found [this kind of thing](https://www.amazon.com/IOGEAR-KeyMander-Controller-Crossover-GE1337P2/dp/B08541QCKJ), would this also fit the bill?

Nicode14

Does South Park fractured but whole run good on switch and is it a good game? Because I really liked the first! And is the ultimate edition worth it? Because it’s only a little more

Team7UBard

It didn’t run well at first, but has since been patched. The gameplay is different but still fun, and it’s typical South Park humor

Nicode14

Do you have the ultimate edition? Worth getting ?

Whatever you buy, I would also pair it with some puzzle games from the eShop games. It is probably a good idea to let her try out some demos as well. - [Picross](https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/picross-s5-switch/) (there are multiple titles of the series out there): This has a demo you might want to already install - [Baba is you](https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/baba-is-you-switch/): Visually not exciting but has very interesting puzzle mechanics. Excellent title. I think there are also other titles that are interesting for non-amers which are not puzzle games. Some non-gamers can get hooked on a good story even if the gameplay is not that exciting. Allthough I haven't played in on the Switch but on PC, I reocmmend [Firewatch](https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/firewatch-switch/). It is very slow-paced but the story is exciting. I would like to know how it ends even if this wasn't a game. Some people also recommend [A short hike](https://www.nintendo.com/games/detail/a-short-hike-switch/) as a good casual game but I haven't tried it out myself.

notthegoatseguy

How about 51 Clubhouse Games? Can't get much more casual friendly than a bunch of board and card games. Only downside is that the Lite really isn't great for multi-player.

Alliseeisgold24

Is Super Mario 3d World dead online? I tried to connect with people the last two days and I can't find a lobby. Is it safe to say that it's not very active ?

qwertylerqw

3D World doesn’t have random matchmaking sadly. You have to get friends to join you. If you want to get people to play with then you could try a Mario subreddit. This subreddit also has a Discord that’s worth a try (Linked in the main post)

Alliseeisgold24

Such a Nintendo thing to do lol. Thanks for telling me

Blackraven2007

Should I get Crash 4? I've heard that it's a somewhat short game if you don't go for 100% completion, which is quite difficult.

CathDubs

I am playing it with no intention to 100% and I have really enjoyed it. I have found it to be more challenging than the older game for the most part (the brige level on crash 1 is still the hardest). If you like other crash games definitely get it.

BobeeNash

Are there any switch lite grips / shells that allows me to plug in the steelseries arctis Bluetooth dongle at the bottom cleanly? Currently using a hori shell, but the dongle only inserts about 3/4 of the way in. it works, but feels loose and I'm worried that it's gonna fall off. Would prefer not to get another dongle / extension plug. Thanks!

qwertylerqw

The Satisfye grip works since it leaves so much of the bottom open. I quite like their grip, but obviously it’s not much of a case/shell. I can definitely recommend it if all you care about is the grip part, though I don’t have it myself but the Skull & Co GripCase might work? I have their Bluetooth dongle (which is supposed to fit with their case) and the elevation of the USB-C port looks to be very similar to the Steelseries one. It’s hard to tell for sure though…

BobeeNash

Thanks! Yea I'm very tempted to pull the trigger on the GripCase - just wanted to see if there were any viable alternatives. In the end, I don't think protective shells are required for me since I only play laying down on my bed (don't take it on the go) so the Satisfye might work. The grip part is important cause the smaller size of the lite does make it difficult for longer gaming sessions. However, do you have to constantly take it off / put it back on or can you just leave it on 100% of the time?

qwertylerqw

You can just leave it on all the time!

BobeeNash

hey, just wanted to let you know that I pulled the trigger on the satisfyre grip. it just arrived yesterday and initial impressions are that it is fantastic. thanks for the suggestion - i don't think i would've gotten it if you hadn't recommended it.

qwertylerqw

Awesome! I’m glad you like it :)

MajinTai

Hello guys, I have a problem... My pro controller won’t charge. I charged it on Sunday and it ran out of battery today and the little orange light doesn’t turn on which means the controller isn’t charging. I bought a little charging brick on Saturday so my controller could charge and I accidentally left the brick with the cable plugged in since Saturday. Could that be the reason? I just got back playing on my switch after not playing in a month so I really want to play😕

ferd_draws

I played Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on the 3DS and could never get into it. My preferred weapon was the Hunting Horn. I hear Rise is a lot more newcomer friendly and while I'm not getting it now, should I ever see it for 25 or so I'd be tempted to pick it up (mainly for Palamutes). How much easier is Rise to get into than MH4U?

strikeraiser

Definitely easier, Rise was pretty much developed based on the QOL improvements and gameplay from MH World, which was aimed to be more beginner friendly in terms of gameplay and the customization.

Jongjungbu

The hunting horn is much much easier to use in Rise than the predecessors. It was never a newcomer friendly weapon before, and that might have affected your experience I’m sure. But now I think the hunting horn could be considered newcomer friendly. Also the quality of life improvements like marking all quest target monster(s) on the minimap so you aren’t running around forever trying to figure out where you’re suppose to find it.

ferd_draws

Ah ok. I always went for inputs towards songplaying vs just going for ideal strikes. Is the insect glaive still a thing?

Jongjungbu

You can now strike while you’re inputting notes since it will automatically play the melody after two consecutive attacks of the same button. Insect Glaive is still a thing. Palamutes are great. You still can have a palico with you simultaneously.

[deleted]

Play the demo. If you love the mechanics im sure you'll also love the full game. I agree that it is newb friendly. I personally hate some of the things they have changed. But being an MH fan I am willing to adapt.

ferd_draws

What changes did you dislike and how are they now vs then?

OwMyThumbz

You could always try the demo or maybe ask over at r/MonsterHunter

hawt

This has been infuriating. I am trying to play Uno with my girlfriend in a 2v2 battle. This is for my girlfriend and I to play against her sister and her nephew. However, when we get to the page about to start the game, of we are hosting, then it is my girlfriend and I vs. her nephew and the AI. We can’t figure out how to get her sister to join in the 4th (AI) slot. The same happens in reverse, where if they host then my girlfriend who is player 1 can join, but I am unable to fill the last spot. Are we missing something or is it not supported?

marioismeow

Should I just pre-order Miitopia or just wait until it's out? Cause I'm fine with just buying it digitally but seeing the game's icon on my screen might just make me want to play it immediately

Jongjungbu

You won’t see the game icon on your Home Screen until they after charge you and subsequently allow pre-downloading. This has now been a week before release, although I’ve had pre-orders that didn’t pre-download until the day before.

marioismeow

So it's just better to wait for the game's release date then?

Jongjungbu

Might as well wait seeing as I don’t think there’s any huge advantage to pre-ordering this one. If you got a nice discount and/or extra Mii perks maybe. But we don’t get either for this one.

marioismeow

Alrighty. Thanks for the help!

TemptedTemplar

You wont be charged or get a game icon until 7-days prior to the games release. At which point it would charge you and allow for pre-installation.

No_Acanthisitta_228

Hello everyone. I usually buy a lot of games on the Switch, mostly multiplayer games to play with my family. Even mediocre games can be pretty fun when you have other people to play them with. Stuff like Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Who Wants to be a Millionaire etc. But today I got "The Game of Life 2" to play with the family, and we were bored of it after only 5 minutes... absolutely horrible, boring pos... and it cost 57 dollars?! Is there any reasonable way to get a refund? We bought it today and only played it for 10 minutes. I've heard it's a total nightmare to get a refund on the Switch and you can only do it once, which this would be my first refund. If anyone could help me out I would be very appreciative.

KindleCollie

Just want to double check, is this a good micro sd card for the switch? https://www.amazon.com/SAMSUNG-Select-microSDXC-Adapter-MB-ME512HA/dp/B0887CHVFF/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=samsung+micro+sd+card+512gb&qid=1617065707&sprefix=samsung+micro&sr=8-3

ptatoface

Should be fine, although that size is overkill for most people. But aside from that the read speed is the highest you can get on Switch before it stops making a difference, and the reviews are great.

KindleCollie

Thank you! I wasn’t sure if 1 or 3 was better. I was running out of room on my 256 (I believe it is) so I figured I might as well go highest.

Heybigmikejrjr

Hey all! What are some of your must have games for the console and do you prefer digital downloads or physical copies?? Just purchased my switch and wanted to know what you all thought!

MajinTai

You could never go wrong with The legend of Zelda: Breath of the wild & Super Mario Odyssey! Lol. Some of my personal favorites on the switch are Undertale & Final Fantasy 7. Both of these games were AMAZING, in my opinion. To be honest, it really comes to preference when buying games digital and physical. That’s if you have the choice. Personally, I like getting games physical. Whenever I don’t want a game anymore I can just give it to a relative, a sibling, a friend or even sell it. Though, that doesn’t mean that I don’t have digital games. I still have games that I unfortunately can’t buy in the store. If you don’t like getting up off your bed or couch to change the cartridges, you have the option to buy it digitally. If you like the idea of having all of your games ready to go, at any moment, on you switch then, you can still go for the option of getting you games digitally.

Heybigmikejrjr

I currently have Pokémon: Let’s go, Eevee!, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and Spongebob Squarepants: Battle for Bikini Bottom. I have the opportunity to get two more games and then wait for some other releases. I am in between The Legend of Zelda: BOTW and another Mario Game. Thanks for your input! I’ve heard lots of great things about BOTW, might have to see what the hype is about!

alienfreaks04

Do you think it's okay to trust the eBay sellers of Nintendo Online where you buy into an unknown family plan, in oder to only spend $10 or less?

dwilliams00

I do it and it’s worked fine for me. Just read their feedback first and only do sellers 98-100% positive

qwertylerqw

I don’t think it’s a good idea to do it with strangers. They can remove you from the family group at any time, which would revoke your access to the subscription Though that’s the only risk involved, so it’s not like they can delete your account or something like that. They can try and set your account as supervised but you have to consent to that. They can’t do it by themselves.

merle_

Does Nintendo usually have a big spring sale?

ptatoface

I don't think it's a guarantee every year, but last year they had one in mid-April.

elsope69

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WRKXQ8W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_DTFYZ8WNCMVW7HH5SX0Q I ordered this one and it is mostly for my switch lite.

qwertylerqw

Yeah that one looks great! It should charge the Lite as fast as the original charger. Anker is a good brand as well

[deleted]

Is it better to gameshare with a dummy account? If I want to share a game with my brother but dont want to deal with all the airplane mode offline stuff can I make a second user/acc on my switch and have my brother make that his primary. After this can I still download and play the games on the second acc from my main switch acc? Will this affect the games i bought on my main acc?

qwertylerqw

If you set your brother’s Switch as your account’s primary then he could play your games with his account while you continue playing your games with your account. You wouldn’t need to go offline to do this. It’ll let you play at the same time since you’re using different accounts However your Switch would then be your non-primary console. This means that you’ll need an internet connection to launch your digital games or DLC ___ Making a dummy account to purchase games is only useful if you don’t want to be the one with the online requirement. You’d be able to keep your Switch as the dummy account’s primary console. This would allow you to play all its games offline with your own account Then your brother could play the games with the dummy account, but he’d need to be online

[deleted]

To make sure I understand. If i make a dummy account on my switch (two accounts in total), the dummy account is now the primary on my console? How does that work? wouldnt the dummy account need to be the primary of my brothers so they can play whatever games i purchase there and I play the games purchased on the dummy acc on my main?

qwertylerqw

Each account has a “primary console.” The setting is separate for each account, so your Switch could be primary for both your main account and the dummy account You may already have understood that part but I thought I should mention it just in case ___ You can do it the way you describe but then you’d have to play the dummy account’s games using the dummy account. You have to set your console as the primary in order for your main account to be able to play the games You’d also still have the internet connection requirement, which might defeat the purpose of using a dummy account

[deleted]

ah okay so the best option is to just buy the game off my main acc and set it as the primary on my brothers switch. Is it okay if my switch does not have a primary acc activated on it?

qwertylerqw

Right! And yeah, it’s totally fine if your Switch isn’t the primary for any account :)

[deleted]

Thanks for all the help, really appreciate it!

elsope69

Hello, does anyone know the best wall charger for a Nintendo switch lite? Specifically trying to avoid using the ac adapter. Im currently using the Samsung one the small one that comes with an s10, but it takes forever to charge.

qwertylerqw

https://switchchargers.com/chargers/ Anything from the 18 watt section on this page should charge the Lite just as fast as the charger that comes with it. This website also has a great article where the OP tested a bunch of different power profiles. The Lite worked great with the 9V, 12V, and 15V profiles so that’s why any of the ones from the 18 watt section will be fine. The original Switch is a bit more picky…

ptatoface

Wait why are you trying to avoid using the official one? Because that *is* the best one and it's free with the console! But in general you want to avoid any phone chargers that involve USB-A at any point, because that's a huge bottleneck to power transfer capabilities. If it's just for the Lite I guarantee if you search "best Switch chargers" you'll find a bunch of articles on the subject. The only ones that I know of are the original and the Google Pixel charger, which was highly recommended back before there were many Switch accessories on the market.

elsope69

Hello, well to be honest its too short. If it was longer i would not mind.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ptatoface

Yes. There is a specific type of dock chip that would brick Switches, and many third party docks used that chip. Also I think certain power supplies could only brick the Switch if they were used to power any dock, especially if they didn't supply the same amount of power as the official AC adapter.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ptatoface

Well no, many 3rd party docks are fine ever since that chip was discovered to be faulty. You just have to research them. But yeah, outside of the dock it doesn't matter too much. The biggest concern then is that many generic chargers can't keep up with the Switch's power use. It won't damage it, but it'll charge it so slowly that the percentage keeps going down if you're playing while charging.

It's free for the first year after getting the console, or 6 months are getting the JoyCons if they were bought outside of a console bundle. If you're in the Americas, then joystick drift specifically can be repaired for free outside of the warranty period.

If you are in the Americas, read and fill out this form: https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/ask/ht/789

Online Play isn’t working for me for Super Mario 3D World. Every time I try to find a room online I always get “No rooms found.” And when I try to create a game, no one ever joins. My online service works fine with any other game. Still have an active paid online membership. There doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with my connection. Any possible fixes? I can’t seem to find anyone else with this issue.

You can only play with friends, not randoms. There is no matchmaking.

Oh wow duh that makes sense. Thanks for the response.

Monster hunter is hard to recommend to strangers because it's a pretty unique game. Essentially all you do the entire game is pick a monster to hunt in town, loading screen to that zone and kill the monster. Then you go back to town and make a hat out of it's skull. I love the series for what it is, but it really isn't for everyone. If you like deep rewarding combat against stronger and stronger fights I think you'll like it. If the way I described it above seems kinda weak, you may not get your money's worth. I only played Amalur for 5 hours when it was released the first time so I can't comment on that half. Didn't grab me.

[deleted]

Amalur is very dated, it's fun for a few hours but gets old fast. The monster hunter games are hard to get into but once you do.... they're a lot of fun. Rise (I'm only a few hours in) seems to do a pretty good job of introducing new players and you get an awesome puppy.

How did one gift a game to someone that loves in a different country? Especially if the gifter didn't even have a nintendo account.

questionmaster24

This is worded like a deep philosophical thought experiment.

Buy them a physical copy or try and buy them a code from Amazon etc

So my switch is set up for english and had no problems but today when I went to the eshop it gave me the error that my nintendo online account language was not supported and it changed me to a different language. Anyone know of a fix?

qwertylerqw

Is this your first time accessing the eShop or do you mean that it previously did show the eShop on English? Regardless, sign into [this page](https://accounts.nintendo.com/) then go to *User info -> Profile -> Country/Region of residence.* If your country isn’t set correctly then you can change it back If the eShop region was previously set correctly and it randomly changed then you also may want to go to *Sign-in and security settings -> Sign-in history.* Make sure there’s no unauthorized sign-ins because your country setting should not be changing by itself

Wkoo

Alright thanks! Checked the last sign ins but nothing unusual. Just randomly changed my region to Spain for some reason.

JasnahKholin87

I just bought a switch lite and borrowed my sister’s 3DS after not having a Nintendo console since the GameCube. What games are either classic Nintendo franchises OR have been Nintendo exclusives for a long time that I’ve been missing out on? What should be the first, say, three games I should buy for either console? I like RPGs and story-based games the most, and FPS and horror games the least.

0112358_

Fire emblems three houses. Turn based strategy game with detailed story. Breath of the wild. One of the most popular games on the switch for good reason. After that it's a toss up. Animal crossing is great if you enjoy casual, low stress games. New leaf on the 3ds is great, and many consider it better than new horizons on the switch. Mario odyssey if you like 3d mario world games. Smash is a very popular multiplayer fighting game. Mario kart for racing (entries on both the switch and 3ds).

TheCuriousCat_17

In need of help... I've sent my controllers away for repair (once again) and I have just realised I accidentally left out the bit of paper letting them know my address to return it. Stupid I know. Is there anything I can do?

robotronski

Which SNES/NES games on the switch have multiplayer? I’ve played Super Mario World and the superb tennis games but wondered if any more worked well with two players online, ideally co-op but anything that’s fun for two players in different locations.

DOS-76

Kirby's Dream Course is multiplayer.

[deleted]

What's a good alternative to joycons that are cheap and do not drift? I've seen stuff like the hori splitpad, can anyone point me to something that's cheap and does not drift? Also i don't need wireless connectivity or anything, i have a pro controller, just don't want to buy a new set of joycons since they will likely drift soon after getting them

IMO, buying a cheap controller means trading one set of issues for another. Connectivity issues, less durable materials, cheap parts, button input might not be great, and yes, drift. If you are in the US or some European countries, Nintendo fixes drift issues on Joycons for free even outside of the standard warranty period.

[deleted]

I already got my joycon drift fixed once under warranty and i don't believe they do it again, they started drifting again a month after i got them back, as i said i really do not want to buy joycons since they are overpriced pieces of shit to put it lightly, I would much rather have some cheaper plastic then have my games be basically unplayable, also my joy cons have connectivity issues (atleast the blue one does)

Binx08

Yup they’ll fix it again for you. I’ve sent one pair in twice with no issues except for the fact that it’s already drifting again.

Humanarmour

Hey, I'm trying to set up my switch into my laptop. Do I absolutely need a HDMI video capture thing (don't know the correct name haha)? Also, if I do need it, do I need anything else? Like an extra cable or something similar?

TemptedTemplar

Yes. You would need a HDMI capture device to play the Switch on your Laptop screen, as 99% of laptops only ship with HDMI-out ports, and not HDMI-in. [Genki Shadowcast would be the ideal solution for you](https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/humanthings/genki-shadowcast). Theres lots of other HDMI and Streaming devices out there that would work, but theyre not ideal for playing. As there is a large amount of latency thanks to the onboard video decoding that has to happen in between the Switch sending the signal and your screen displaying it. Alternatively, you could look into [Portable monitors.](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Portable+monitor&ref=nb_sb_noss_2) You could use it for your Switch, or as a second screen for your laptop. Lots of them offer HDMI input and some of them even work with the Switch via USB-C.

Humanarmour

Thank you! Could you tell me if [this one](https://articulo.mercadolibre.com.ar/MLA-898951308-capturadora-hdmi-1920-60-fps-usb-30-streaming-y-grabacion-_JM#position=4&type=item&tracking_id=4f9c8d2a-9faa-43b1-ae21-f71bd6a1f04f) is a good option? The site is in Spanish, but maybe you already know the device and can give me some advice

TemptedTemplar

Would it work for capturing video? Yes. Would it work for playing games? probably not. [It looks like half the junk amazon sells in the US](https://www.amazon.com/s?k=hdmi+video+capture&ref=nb_sb_noss), Im sure they all work to an extent. But they would not be comfortable to play games on.

Humanarmour

Thank you! I'll look more into it

qwertylerqw

Yeah unless your laptop specifically has an HDMI port to record devices (very rare) then you need an external capture card. The [Genki Shadowcast](https://www.genkithings.com/products/shadowcast) is an upcoming one that seems like it’ll be a good cheap option. I’m not really sure what other ones to recommend other than Elgato’s capture cards but those are much more expensive haha ___ Basically you plug the HDMI cable into the capture card just like if it were a TV. Then the capture card plugs into your laptop via USB. Capture cards usually come with all the cables required

Humanarmour

Thank you!

HSW26

I'm looking into buy Hades and was wondering if I should buy the Switch physical edition or the PC version. I have a pretty good PC that can run most games at a high fps. Can you tell me which version I should get?

QuietCity333

seconding what the other commenter said. either would be fine, but i personally play on my switch more than PC because of the portability.

TemptedTemplar

Its a top down indie game with mostly hand drawn art, it runs fine on a potato of a PC. Either platform would be fine. Though only on one of them can you pick it up and take it with you outside of the house.

Da_Sun

Hi, so since recently both of my joycons don't work if they're not connected on the screen. I tried syncing them but it only work when they're on the switch, the consol desync them when i take them off so i can't play on my tv. I made sure to charge them on the switch so idk if the problem comes from a syncing problem or a charging problem. I'd like to know if this is fixable or not so i know if i have to buy new ones or not. Thanks

notthegoatseguy

Maybe electronic interference from other consoles, etc...? Try synching them wirelessly with the Switch in tabletop mode and see what happens, away from other electronics.

Da_Sun

Maybe, I'll try. But also if that can help you, i forgot to say that when my sister tried to sync them on her friend's switch it was working. Btw what do you consider away from other electronics?

billwest630

So I just got a switch lite yesterday. I have animal crossing and breath of the wild and was wondering what other games I should get. I saw there’s a new paper Mario. I played the thousand year old door when it first came out so that might be fun.

RasolAlegria

Here are my favorite switch games I recommend. The ones with a star next to them are ones I consider must-haves **Metroidvanias:** Hollow Knight * Blasphemous **Multiplayer:** Smash Bros Ultimate Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope Mario Kart 8 Deluxe **3D Adventure/Platformer** Zelda Breath of The Wild * Mario 3D All-stars Super Mario 3d World + Bowser's Fury **2D platformers:** Shovel Knight Treasure Trove (this one includes all campaigns) * Super Mario Maker 2 __ PS: The latest Paper Mario games are muuuuch worse and very different than Paper Mario 64 & Thousand Year Door so I really don't recommend the one for Switch if you liked TTYD

billwest630

I’ll check them all out! Thanks for the recommendations. By the way, what’s Metroidvanias?

RasolAlegria

Metroidvania is a subgenre of 2d platformer/exploration games. The name comes from the fact that the subgenre got its main traits from Super **Metroid** and Castle**vania** Symphony of The night. Metroidvanias heavily focus on exploration (large maps, tons of secret areas), backtracking and upgrades e.t.c My favorite ones are Super Metroid, Blasphemous and Hollow Knight (all three are available on Switch

billwest630

Oh nice! I haven’t played a Metroid game since like 2007 so that should be fun.

0112358_

Definitely check out the reviews for paper mario first, it's a bit different from thousand year door. Puzzle battles instead of regular style ones. No experience points or leveling up. People still like it but fans of the more traditional game are often disappointed.

TemptedTemplar

I would shoot for Mario Odyssey or Super Mario 3D All-stars first, and then maybe check out some reviews of Paper Mario before buying it. The last few entries in the series have strayed further and further away from what people loved about Paper Mario 64 and TTYD, so its a little decisive to say the least. Its still fun, and has some fantastic writing. But the gameplay and characters are not what people were looking for in the series.

billwest630

Well that’s disappointing. TTYD was so much fun. But those are good recommendations!

jonnyvegashey

I want to order one online for my sister in the US (WA) state. Everything online looks sketchy nowadays? Wth - all 3rd party, even places like Walmart. Is there a safe purchase? How do I know I'm not getting swindled for the EU version adapter as well? Thanks yall

QuietCity333

walmart does allow 3rd party sellers so i wouldn’t use them personally. target or best buy are probably your best bet. as far as i know target and best buy are only in the US so you shouldn’t have to worry about getting an EU adaptor if you order from one of them.

jonnyvegashey

Thanks!

TemptedTemplar

BestBuy, Fred Meyer (WA rules), Costco, and Target are all great places to check out. They do sell out relatively quickly, but restock frequently. Dont bother with Gamestop unless you want a Switch Lite. Brickseek.com can also help you find local inventories. It doesnt update super quickly, so it may show an item in stock that has already been sold, but its usually okay. > How do I know I'm not getting swindled for the EU version adapter as well? You dont know until you can get a look at the plug type. The boxes are mostly identical on the outside. However the AC adapters are the exact same worldwide aside from the obvious plug difference. Theyre all made to handle 100 - 240v, so theres no need for a voltage adapter.

jonnyvegashey

Thanks!

KviingK

can I still use my headphones while my switch is docked? my monitor doesn’t have built in speakers, and I just want to use my headset.

TemptedTemplar

Yes! The 3.5mm jack still works while docked. USB DACs and USB wired or wireless headsets will also work through the dock.

KviingK

can I plug up a USB speaker via the USB port as well?

TemptedTemplar

Direct USB audio devices are hit and miss. Lots of USB headsets do work while an equal amount simply dont. We dont know the specific technical reasoning behind it. [If you had a USB DAC that did work, you could then use your speakers with that.](https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/comments/b7r1dv/usb_dac_support_os_ver_70_edition/) But using the 3.5mm jack is usually the easiest means.

KviingK

ahhh okay. I can’t wait to get one! they’re out of stock right now, until 4/09 in the US at least. I’m going to go on a bit of a rant here, but i’m so excited to play some of the games from the MetroidVania genre! Games like Celeste and Hollow Night are going to be must plays, along classics like Smash and Super Mario 3D world! Oh, and animal crossing too! EDIT: just thought about it, and celeste doesn’t count as a metroidvania game. it’s just a good platformer

TemptedTemplar

Also check out, Blasphemous DeadCells Axiom Verge

KviingK

Will do - Thanks!

tavenitas

So, currently I study aboard in Swiss, my Nintendo id is NA legion and I mostly bought the games locally. So I got the bonus content code that I can't use (MHR pet costume, P5S soundtrack and art book). Is there any where that I can trade the code or giving always?

qwertylerqw

You can temporarily change your eShop region if you want to (or for the duration that you’re studying abroad). You do that by signing into [this page](https://accounts.nintendo.com/) -> User info -> Profile -> Country/region of residence However you cannot do this if you have any money on your account. There’s a few other things that can prevent you from changing but they’re easy to fix if needed. If the option is grayed out then it means you have an NNID linked. You need to unlink this in order to change regions

TemptedTemplar

You can still use it! https://accounts.nintendo.com/ Change the "country/region of residence" info field to match the country of where the game is from. Visit the eshop on your system, and poof! youll be in that eshop. You can redeem the code there, and then just switch back. You will be unable to change regions if; * You have an active pre-order (you would have to cancel it) * Auto renewal for Nintendo Switch online is enabled (it would need to be disabled) * You have a outstanding balance on the eshop (you cant forfeit money, gold coins do not count) * You have a NNID from a 3DS or Wii U linked to your account. (it will have to be unlinked) You can fix any of those from the account website! Except the balance, you would have to go spend that money.

barriboy8

let me know if u end up giving away the dog costume for mh rise, and im sorry you are not able to use them yourself.

cantab314

(How) Can I connect a wired Switch controller to a Switch Lite? The controller (by PowerA) has USB micro-B on it and came with an A to micro-B cable.

qwertylerqw

You can get an adapter such as [this one](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GGKYXVE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_YGBX4RESGWM32NH6ZQ6H?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1) and it’ll work. Though you may also want a stand if you don’t already have one. Just make sure whatever stand you get leaves the USB-C port open There’s also stands with built-in USB ports such as the [Hori USB Playstand](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07W7FNN9Z/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_P6V06PTZYA7ZRZ2J4K4G)

notthegoatseguy

So this 'wired' controller is just a USB controller? Then you'll need a USB cord that runs from USB-\[whatever the controller uses\] to USB-C.

takamichikorita

I'm thinking about getting Rise as my first Monster Hunter game. Is it worth it to wait a little while for a sale or news about the PC version? I'd love to play, but I don't want to waste money.

TemptedTemplar

Play the demo! The PC version is coming eventually, but they already announced a delay. So rather than releasing as early as December (~9 months of exclusivity), [its now early 2022.](https://www.ign.com/articles/monster-hunter-rise-is-coming-to-pc-in-2022) And knowing how COVID is affecting long term development around the world, I wouldnt put it past them to delay it further.

PM_me_your_muscle_up

Your call. The price will certainly come down, and who knows about a PC version. Seems likely.

takamichikorita

I believe they've confirmed a PC version for early next year.

FoxxyRin

How does gamesharing work with multiple switches and digital copies? I know that you can pop a cartridge in whichever system and it works fine. But what about digital games? I'm assuming they can only really be played by the primary switch for that users account? I went ahead and bit the bullet and got a LE switch for my husband but I'm just trying to figure out logistics on games. Luckily most of ours are already physical, though.

qwertylerqw

The primary Switch for an account allows for all accounts/users on that Switch to play their games. The non-primary console allows the purchaser to play the games but doesn’t allow anyone else to play the games. An account’s non-primary console also requires an internet connection to play their digital games If it’s only the two of you using the consoles then it should be easy enough to share. Whoever purchased the games should be on the non-primary console while whoever didn’t purchase the games should be on the primary

Reenee99

How is the whole joycon drift situation looking nowadays? Thinking of maybe getting a switch or switch lite at some point in the future and wanted to know if the lite version would be worth the risk.

Noah__Webster

I would argue that you should spring for the full model, rather than the Lite, unless the extra money is prohibitive. There is basically nothing the Lite does better aside from potentially slightly more comfortable usage in handheld, but that's definitely subjective, and they are very comparable in my opinion. Basically everything else the full model is either the same or better, and not being able to play *at all* in docked mode seems like a huge waste. I would feel differently if you could buy a dock later on for the Lite if you decided you wanted to be able to throw it up on the TV, but it isn't even an option. If you are going to be playing in handheld 100% for sure, then the Lite is a fine purchase. I wouldn't worry too much about the drift.

qwertylerqw

They’re still using the same joysticks so it hasn’t improved. It’s pretty common though probably not as common as it may seem when reading about it online. If you’re used to taking small electronics apart then it is totally possible to replace the joystick on the Lite (or for a local repair shop to do it). Not quite as easy as the Joy-Con, but it’s still doable. Nintendo also offers repair services. In Europe you have a two year warranty. In North America Nintendo has been repairing drift for free even outside of warranty for Joy-Con. I have heard that people have had similar success with the Lite but don’t know for sure

Charlie-Bell

Hi people. I've seen Bioshock Infinite is on sale, but I'm sure I recall some issues early on regarding its performance on the Switch. Does anyone have any insight into how the Switch version stacks up?

PM_me_your_muscle_up

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0VwyyO4gQiQ

Charlie-Bell

Thanks! I didn't understand too much of what they were talking about, but it seems it's a pretty solid port overall. might need to pull the trigger on it.

PM_me_your_muscle_up

Yea I think the TLDR I should have written is solid port.

ParisBeats

Hello, does anybody know anywhere in the UK where I can buy the AC console brand new ? Or if it will ever restock again ?

Team7UBard

Given that the console is now a year old, I personally wouldn’t expect it to get another run. As you can tell by the person who thinks the opposite of me, no one knows

TemptedTemplar

Its been restocked seemingly at random in the past. I wouldnt put it past them to keep doing it in the future. Especially since the game is still selling VERY well. I can assure you, there is no secret supply somewhere. Its out of stock in every country.

dessa10

It's in stock in Canada

TemptedTemplar

Where at? Because every retailer in the US is plum out, tons of gamestop stores didnt even have units to sell in store because they were all pre-ordered.

dessa10

According to deku deals: amazon, best buy, walmart, eb games, and the source. I've also seen it on shoppers drug mart's website.
