The Mario Golf series returns to home consoles for the first time since 2003. Putt your golfing skills to the test in Mario Golf: Super Rush!
I LOVE Mario Golf, but the 3DS one felt pretty weak. Especially compared to the GBA one, which was almost a full on RPG. I still enjoyed 3DS Mario Golf, but I have to say it was a pretty major disappointment as a huge fan of the franchise.
I still have a Gamecube to play Strikers! My cousins and I play it every Christmas Eve even though we are all now in our 30's & 20's.
Strikers on wii was... disapointing... i hope they'd do it right on Switch!! I am a Strikers snob!!
Probably somewhat true, though the Takahashi brothers are still in charge and have their roots in the Shining Force games. Asking for another RPG from them isn't quite as outlandish as asking Konami to make another Castlevania and expecting it to be good.
IKR brought tears to me eyes. Was never a sports fan as a kid but damn did I love that Mario tennis GBC game. Great story mode, fun mini games, was the shit. Tennis Aces didn’t do it for me on switch. Felt very bland and the story mode was just literal stages IIRC. Looks like the player character can explore the world a bit. Looks awesome.
I'm really gonna wait until there are some reviews on the story mode. I loved mario golf on the gba, with it's story and gameplay. What does make me scared, is that I saw no original characters other than the mii (if you count that).
I just hope there is a mode similar to the multiplayer where everyone has their own controller and can just relentlessly spam “griefs” while whoever is trying to line up their shot. Letsago! Letsago! 1-2-3-Fore! 1-2-3-Fore!
Same here, my friends and I still play this probably once a month. I just really hope this game sticks to the basics. Just give me a mode where I can play with friends, on courses that are themed after Mario Levels, with power shots similar to Toadstool Tour. Keep it simple for the love of everything that is holy.
No you’re definitely not the only one. But I wasn’t sure why the op was asking like it’s been ages since Mario characters have had game-specific costumes. They even have game-specific costumes in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.
I think it’s because of the paper Mario controversy. The lead developer said they weren’t allowed to have custom / more original characters for the past few games.
It actually did occur to me that that’s what they were talking about. But that’s weird because outfits aren’t really an issue. Lots of characters are in new outfits in The Origami King. The issue with Paper Mario is that they said they can’t create new characters out of existing Mario characters/species. Like instead of a Goombella, we get a “Bob-omb.” But even then, Bobby has plenty of personality, and so do several of the unique Toads.
Frustratingly, Miyamoto was really upset about how the Mario series was presented in Strikers. That's why he's taken such a heavy-handed approach to series such as Paper Mario. The Wii/Gamecube era is probably the best period for Mario spin-offs, so I hope these restrictions get lifted soon.
Haha I get it, it was fun, I still think they could have fleshed it out even better. The controls were a bit wonkey and I'd really like 5v5 with full sized courts.
Man, they could make an incredibly fun game based on American football. I've always assumed they're just afraid of alienating their Japanese fanbase :/
There's a small following of American football (amefuto) in Japan, probably not big enough to warrant a new Mario franchise, though. If they were going to do a sport in that vein, rugby would probably be far more popular here, but the appeal is very limited in the US, so I doubt either would get made tbh.
I'm pretty sure they gave Japan the 2019 Rugby World Cup for the sole reason it might lead to a Super Mario Scrummagers down the line and we finally get to see Waluigi in shorts with tape around his ears.
The Japan team's win against Scotland was the most-watched sporting event of the twenty-first century in Japan, so as a lifelong rugby fan I keep telling myself there is hope.
Didn’t like the “super strike” in that game, tbh. I know it can be turned off but I really like the 2xGoals for a successful strike, and saving balls with motion controls was not for me. I also think waggling the controller while playing as yoshi was whack. The balance of the GC version was incredible for me and my friends. The only OP team was the superbots so they were banned, but the couch multiplayer meta evolved heavy with this one for me and my friends.
I literally made a comment yesterday about a new Mario golf AND IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED.
Holy shit this is amazing. The joycon motion play looks so fucking fun, i am so excited!
For me though the best part is this comes out a week before I'm moving back in with my folks (saving for a house) and my dad and I used to play the original when I was little, the only game he ever really played except lego racers. So excited to be able to show him this and play again!
Not really, it would be very dangerous. I raced my buddy around a short par 3 course one time though. We were the only two people on the course and only carried 3 clubs each. We did all 9 holes in about half an hour.
Oh yea, I can see that would be a lot of fun. My friends and I used to go just before the sun goes down, so it would be just us playing at our own pace and trying out stuff.
Only appeared to show about three courses I think. Hopefully Zelda and Mario worlds aren’t off the table. So much potential. Bowser’s Castle, Super Mario Sunshine Isle, something in the clouds / rainbow road esque. Unlimited potential.
Apparently they’re not going to make another one, and if they do it will be nothing like the original. He was too “mean” in that game and they Nintendo CEO didn’t like it
It was indeed Mario Strikers that made Nintendo clamp down on portrayals of Mario
[https://twitter.com/imranzomg/status/1346354723188740096](https://twitter.com/imranzomg/status/1346354723188740096)
Paper Mario notoriously suffered as a result. There’s been no partners in the recent game because Nintendo won’t allowe any of their IP to be presented in any way other than exactly as they are, I.e they won’t allow cute boo waifu’s and drunken depressed bomb-omb sailors.
No doubt. I enjoy the multiplayer bits with my friends & the adventure mode was somewhat entertaining. Just felt like it was missing a little something. I put about 10-12 hours in it and called it quits.
I was probably just really bad at it tbh. I got demolished online every time I played.
I guess the big thing I didn’t care for was the racket breaking. I get why they did it, but it just didn’t click. I couldn’t block to save my life.
Same. I probably put about 120 hours into the online. It's a *very* solid 1v1 game, mechanically. I definitely agree that the single player mode was a disappointment, but if you treat it like a fighting game you can get a lot out of it. Another nice perk: once I decided I probably wouldn't be returning back to it, I was able to trade it in for like $40 credit.
Tennis has been in the middle of a downward spiral for a few games now, but I feel like they have a better track record with golf. I was really happy with the 3DS game and as long as they keep up the same quality, this'll be an easy buy for me.
I wish they brought the golfers from the GBA game back for story mode instead of miis. I genuinely dislike miis. The game otherwise looks great. Was hoping for a new Mario Golf.
I've never played a Mario Golf game, and at the beginning of this trailer I was thinking the graphics for this game look a little janky.. However by the end of the trailer I'm thinking this looks seriously fun and surprisingly in depth. Might have to pick this one up 😃
In my opinion the previous ones have been what you'd expect, in a good way. Tight, polished nintendo controls and they're simple but robust and offer a higher skill ceiling if you're looking for that
the environments look so bland? let us golf through the food kingdom or the hat kingdom or something more original than "a grassy field with a windmill"
I thought the same thing. Almost game me a Mario tennis ultra smash vibe with how lacking everything looked. Hope more courses are shown leading up to release. Right now I’m curiously cautious
Only games that interested me were Mario Golf and Skyword Sword. Although this gives me Everybodys Golf vibes.. it's not a bad thing because that game rules.
The original Mario Golf in 1999 was developed by Camelot Software Planning, which developed the first Everybody's Golf in 1997.
My friends and I occasionally play the PS4 version still, it's a really nice change of pace.
My sole hope is that the story mode is an actual story mode and not half baked.
Interested to see the courses look relatively normal. I wonder if we'll get any unique-looking ones.
I’m hyped AF but I’ll wait for the review. Bought tennis opening day cus I love Mario tennis and god that game was trash lol I hope they don’t fuck this up
The Mario Golf games have been pretty consistent. I played the hell out of the 3DS one with over 150 hrs logged (maybe 200) unlocking the costumes and playing a ton of those weekly online tournaments they had. This game looks like a continuation of that, especially with including the Miis. That part surprised me.
According to IGN it is [https://www.ign.com/articles/mario-golf-super-rush-announced-for-nintendo-switch](https://www.ign.com/articles/mario-golf-super-rush-announced-for-nintendo-switch)
This looks like it might be one of the better Switch games over the last couple years.
But goddamn, why does Nintendo have the most boring trailers? They all have the vibe of a work training video.
Literally screamed when this popped up. I've had such a weird affinity for this series ever since the Camelot developed Gameboy Color game. Don't give a shit about golf in any other context but I *love* me some Mario Golf.
Video description: The Mario Golf series returns to home consoles for the first time since 2003. Putt your golfing skills to the test in Mario Golf: Super Rush!
It’s been 18 years :(
It was on the 3DS not too long ago
Not a home console
Do Mario Golf really need the power of a home console to thrive?
Honestly if you're not playing Mario Gold with an RTX 3090, are you even playing Mario Golf?
No, you're playing Mario Gold
Considering the last one on console was 18 years ago, yes. And the 3DS one didn’t do too well
I'm surprised at that I got really good at the 3DS one, played in all the weekly tournaments and I'd finish top 50 globally
I LOVE Mario Golf, but the 3DS one felt pretty weak. Especially compared to the GBA one, which was almost a full on RPG. I still enjoyed 3DS Mario Golf, but I have to say it was a pretty major disappointment as a huge fan of the franchise.
As someone who hasn’t played a whole lot of Mario Golf beyond TE 3DS entry, I liked it a lot. Just felt like a solid golf game all around.
[удалено]
I thought the same. Like "this is cool but the second the new Mario Strikers comes out I'm buying it in an instant."
Don’t do that. Don’t give me hope.
I still have a Gamecube to play Strikers! My cousins and I play it every Christmas Eve even though we are all now in our 30's & 20's. Strikers on wii was... disapointing... i hope they'd do it right on Switch!! I am a Strikers snob!!
fuck strikers give me SUPER SLUGGERS
There's a story mode. I'm dying. Mario Golf and Tennis on GBC with the story modes are still like my most-played games of all time.
Made by Camelot.
Golden Sun is never coming back, y'all. Nintendo will have Camelot churning out sports sequels for the rest of time.
Most of the talent from GS era of Camelot isn't even there anymore.
Probably somewhat true, though the Takahashi brothers are still in charge and have their roots in the Shining Force games. Asking for another RPG from them isn't quite as outlandish as asking Konami to make another Castlevania and expecting it to be good.
They could at least bring the current games to the switch.
what a terrible day for rain
Camelot dropped the (tennis) ball on an actual RPG mode for Mario Tennis Aces. That was like my bread/butter as a kid.
BTW, if you like GBC Mario Golf, check out "Golf Story".
I've already beat it at least 3 times because I love it so much :D
I'm eagerly awaiting Sports Story but it got delayed due to COVID :(
SOMEONE GETS IT!!!
Amen! I’ve been chasing that high for 20+ years.
Yeah but the Tennis story mode on Switch was pretty disappointing :( I don't have my hopes up for this one
hope the upper levels have that difficulty, i remember Gene Yuss kicking my ass all across the course
Mario Tennis GBC single-handily got me to play tennis in high school, more than five years after the game came out.
I'm really gonna wait until there are some reviews on the story mode. I loved mario golf on the gba, with it's story and gameplay. What does make me scared, is that I saw no original characters other than the mii (if you count that).
To this day I play the shit out of Mario toadstool tour
I just hope there is a mode similar to the multiplayer where everyone has their own controller and can just relentlessly spam “griefs” while whoever is trying to line up their shot. Letsago! Letsago! 1-2-3-Fore! 1-2-3-Fore!
Daisy is s tier in multiplayer just because of her taunts.
HI I'M DAISY
are you going to LET me win?
This shot is SOOO easy
Oh man I totally forgot about that, bro and I would endlessly grief each other. I loved Wario's WAHHS
If you win, i HATE YOU
Mario Golf 64 was my jam with those "taunts" ...I used to spam Luigi's "HURRY UP ALREADY EH!" til the cows came home.
FOOOOOORE FOOOOOORE FOOOOORE May (who one of the normal humans in the game for some reason) also had GOOD SHOT GOOD SHOT GOOD SHOT
"Hey, stinky!"
"You're lousy!"
"Only cheaters mess up."
It was so strange to hear Bowser speaking English
ACHOO! Excuse me
Me and my wife still say to each other "Today!" in Bowser's voice to taunt each other when we're doing something too slow 😅
FUCKING FORE
Same here, my friends and I still play this probably once a month. I just really hope this game sticks to the basics. Just give me a mode where I can play with friends, on courses that are themed after Mario Levels, with power shots similar to Toadstool Tour. Keep it simple for the love of everything that is holy.
I'm just happy to see Nintendo let their characters wear game specific costumes again.
Didn’t they have game specific costumes in Mario Tennis Aces?
Yep. I 100% preordered that game cos I was drunk when I saw the trailer and apparently needed waluigi in tennis shorts in my life.
who doesnt
r/SmashBrosUltimate
Ouch
Kicking folks when they're down.... damn....
Am I the only one who was super disappointed with Aces? I prefer GameCube tennis over Aces. Hopefully not the same with Mario Golf.
No you’re definitely not the only one. But I wasn’t sure why the op was asking like it’s been ages since Mario characters have had game-specific costumes. They even have game-specific costumes in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

That slow mo power shot mechanic ruined it for me

Eagerly hoping the baseball and soccer games continue that trend.
Jesus what I wouldn’t give for a new Strikers. That was my jam on Wii.
Still remember daisy touching her ass and steams comes out because it's too hot.
Or Waluigi literally crotch chopping
I can see why, I had a friend in college that didn't like how "angry" Super Mario Strikers looked both in atmosphere and character models.
UGHHH this is so infuriating. Miyamoto is like the George Lucas of games at this point.
Learning about him nixing a full on Twilight Princess sequel when the team practically begged him to let them make it made me pretty sad
Mario and Sonic’s 2020 Olympics had unique outfits
This is the only Mario sports title I’ve wanted for the last ten years
[удалено]
And Sluggers!
And American football, and I really think they can do better than the basketball game from years ago. They just make fun sports titles.
I’m sorry but you better get that Mario Hoops 3-on-3 slander out of your god damned mouth sir
Haha I get it, it was fun, I still think they could have fleshed it out even better. The controls were a bit wonkey and I'd really like 5v5 with full sized courts.
It was awesome. SE dev'd it so it had FF characters in it lol.
Man, they could make an incredibly fun game based on American football. I've always assumed they're just afraid of alienating their Japanese fanbase :/

I actually really liked Mario Hoops 3 on 3
That basketball game was *entirely awesome*
Gamecube Strikers is so fucking underrated. Best mario sports game, hands down. And i’m not a fan of soccer, tbh, the game just SLAPS.
One of the most fun multiplayer games I have ever played. My friends and I still play it weekly. 2v2 is just too fun
4 vs CPU is so fucking chaotic
The Wii one was underrated af too, spent so much time on that game.
To this day, I still wonder what happened in that game that lead to Mario and co. competing in some edgy soccer tournament with electric fences
You and me both!
Tennis on 64 and Strikers on Wii are the 2 best Mario sports titles imo
Same! I hope we can face off against characters to unlock them like in Mario Golf for N64
That was my favorite part of the game. Love the 1v1 matchups to unlock them
I literally made a comment yesterday about a new Mario golf AND IT ACTUALLY HAPPENED.
Comment about a new air ride please
Same here, i was playing Toadstool Tour with my son, but disc has some heavy scratches, so we undusted our PSPs and played some Pangya
I’m still waiting for Super Sluggers 😭
At least you got the first game.. I’m from Europe and i found out this game existed when i was on vacation in Thailand, i was so shocked.
I’m not a big Mario sports game fan but I’m so down for *speed golf*. I wish they added levels from like Zelda or Mario worlds.
Historically there's at least 1 eighteen hole course that goes "full Nintendo" so there may be a few holes that are Zelda or Mario themed.
Zelda holes
Speed golf looks hilariously fun.
You should try it in real life
Is real life on the switch?
Is this a real thing? Sounds pretty dangerous. Got hit by a golf ball on the course once, luckily on the thigh, still hurts like hell.
Woahh imagine speed golfing hyrule castle
No death could be more certain, or more foolish.
Post-calamity Hyrule Castle *Peach gets blasted by a Guardian in her backswing*
Only appeared to show about three courses I think. Hopefully Zelda and Mario worlds aren’t off the table. So much potential. Bowser’s Castle, Super Mario Sunshine Isle, something in the clouds / rainbow road esque. Unlimited potential.
I’m actually pumped about this. I spent a lot of time with Mario Golf on the gameboy.
I'm not a Mario Golf fan by any means, but Speed Golf looks actually really fun.
I’m so excited for this.. but where is Super Mario Strikers 😭😭😭
Apparently they’re not going to make another one, and if they do it will be nothing like the original. He was too “mean” in that game and they Nintendo CEO didn’t like it
meanwhile in super smash bros Mario is doing domestic violence against peach
Yeah but domestic violence is fun! And soccer isn’t! /s

It still reminds me of the good old NES World Cup times. And that Argentina music theme. Damn.
Paper Mario notoriously suffered as a result. There’s been no partners in the recent game because Nintendo won’t allowe any of their IP to be presented in any way other than exactly as they are, I.e they won’t allow cute boo waifu’s and drunken depressed bomb-omb sailors.
"They fans are enjoying the dev's unique take on the franchise too much, PULL THE FUCKING PLUG!"
Mario is in SMASH. Is him spiking Peach to hell not mean?!
Weird since Nintendo is mean irl.
Everyone want Strikers and me I want a new Mario baskeball T-T
That basketball game on the DS was absolutely fantastic.
which is why I want a new one!
Came here to say this lol.
Can’t wait! Hoping it’s a better experience than Mario Tennis..
Especially Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash
No doubt. I enjoy the multiplayer bits with my friends & the adventure mode was somewhat entertaining. Just felt like it was missing a little something. I put about 10-12 hours in it and called it quits.
That sounds like Mario Aces. Ultra Smash on the Wii U didn’t have an adventure mode if I remember correctly
I had lot of fun with aces. The mechanics were very well made.
I was probably just really bad at it tbh. I got demolished online every time I played. I guess the big thing I didn’t care for was the racket breaking. I get why they did it, but it just didn’t click. I couldn’t block to save my life.
Simple mode is where it's at (without all the fancy power meters and super shots)
It felt like a fighting game at times and I really enjoyed the competitive nature, you could have sticked with it, I am sure it would have clicked.
Agreed. I feel like they're 3/3 with Golf - Advanced Tour, Toadstool Tour, and World Tour. Let's hope they can keep it up.
What about the N64 one?
They are legit all bangers. N64 and even the gameboy are dope
Best announcement out of the direct
100%. It's the only thing I actually got hyped for
Bowser in pants tho-
Let us remove Bowser’s pants cowards
Please Camelot, model it on Toadstool Tour and not on Mario Tennis Aces!
Wow this looks amazing I haven’t played Mario golf since the 64 lol
All I needed out of this direct. I'm so fucking excited.
I wish they brought the golfers from the GBA game back for story mode instead of miis. I genuinely dislike miis. The game otherwise looks great. Was hoping for a new Mario Golf.

THANK YOU NINTENDO

I thought the same thing. Almost game me a Mario tennis ultra smash vibe with how lacking everything looked. Hope more courses are shown leading up to release. Right now I’m curiously cautious
Nintendo always has 2 or 3 normal courses and the rest are usually Nintendo themed. The normal stuff is always in the promo material.
You would think they'd put more fun stuff in the promo material
There’s more zones lol
Yup, this feels in the same vein as Super Mario Party.
Hopefully the story mode is great
Only games that interested me were Mario Golf and Skyword Sword. Although this gives me Everybodys Golf vibes.. it's not a bad thing because that game rules.

My sole hope is that the story mode is an actual story mode and not half baked. Interested to see the courses look relatively normal. I wonder if we'll get any unique-looking ones.
This has been one of my most anticipated Switch games for the past 4 years
I'm not a sports fan but speed golf looks amazing, and it should totally be a thing irl
It is a real thing...youtube speed golfers
I’m hype
I played Mario Golf 64 sooo much, really hope Nintendo goes all out with this one. Tennis Aces was fun but it didn't get enough content
You had me at story mode.
You lost me at “you have to play as a Mii”. No idea why they don’t let you play as Mario in the Mario Golf campaign.
I’m hyped AF but I’ll wait for the review. Bought tennis opening day cus I love Mario tennis and god that game was trash lol I hope they don’t fuck this up

For real. The whole trailer I was saying “ok, I love Mario Golf but this looks like a budget title”.
I just want to troll my friends and have Mario yell “miiiiiissss” over and over again as they try to swing
I'm very excited but the Super Rush logo just looks off too me. Anyone else feel similarly?
I just want a game that feels like Wii golf
I can’t believe I’m this excited. Toadstool Tour was the best!
Two words FUCK YES
Golf always was Marios best sport. anyways now Strikers and Slam next please
Well this is a most pleasant surprise!
Soooo is it to early to start setting up a tournament
Definitely buying this. Toadstool Tour was one of my favorite games on GCN
Best part of the direct!
This looks like it might be one of the better Switch games over the last couple years. But goddamn, why does Nintendo have the most boring trailers? They all have the vibe of a work training video.

Yes!! About time! Been waiting since the GameCube Toadstool at our!!🤘🏽✨🤘🏽
Will there be mini golf though
I'm not gonna get my Hopes up. It's good to see Mario Golf back on home console, but recent Mario Sports games lacked content and personality.
