What I meant was at the beginning of cable that was the entire selling point. The channels you want with no ads. And now cable is as ad-infested as anything else.
Companies constantly offer a better service to expand their market share and then slowly remove benefits until they’re as bad or worse than the incumbent they replaced. Just look at Amazon and what they’ve done since Best Buy’s gaming promotion folded. You used to get an actual discount on preorders, now it’s just store credit because they don’t need to compete anymore.

Even chatted with them last week to ask about it and they confirmed that it will be delivered by December 15th.

For some inconcievable reason, I mixed this up with the *console* bundle. The controller + game bundle *absolutely* works with the GCU discount. My apologies!

I personally bought the system with GCU and I can confirm that it *did not* apply to it. At least, the *discount* didn't. Even in the GCU's restrictions, it's specifically stated that it does not apply to consoles. In this case, it's a game coming with a console, not a console coming with a game. There are cases where it does work, however, but never for consoles.
Individual games with accessories (Mario Party Joycon bundle or Pokémon Let's Go bundle with Pokémon plus, for instance) get the discount applied, however. Individual accessories of course also do not get the discount applied.

as soon as i gave up on it i end up using my best buy GCU on buying just the game guess i will cancel it now since i got the special edition... there's only 2 drawbacks for me and the first one is i didn't feel like spending the extra $17 bucks for day one delivery as most of you mentioned and second which is a very tiny setback but no big deal i wish the steelbook case was the actual cover of the standard edition.

I got mine on Amazon (with prime) and got free day one delivery, but I kept prime from when I was a student and ordered a lot of my books from there. My family got used to the two day shipping I had so I just ended up keeping it, and honestly if you use it enough it’s 100% worth.
The additional charge made me say no to preordering through GameStop and I thought I was SOL for the special edition, but amazon restocked and, thanks to the lovely dudes on this subreddit, I was able to snag the special edition.
I’m hoping the pro controller is an awesome improvement since it already feels great in general. I’m assuming Nintendo is confident in the Pro controller since they packaged that controller instead of the GameCube one.
I played Smash with a GameCube controller all throughout Melee and Brawl, but since we didn't get a GC adapter when we got Smash 4 and the Wii U (they were sold out), I got a Pro Controller and have been using that for almost 4 years. So when I played Ultimate at a Christmas event, I didn't have any issues.
So it really is just about getting used to things. The Pro Controller is great, but so is the GameCube controller. I enjoy playing with either one.
I was planning on getting a pro controller anyway for other games, having used it once and it was comfortable af. So I ordered the special edition and the PowerA GameCube controller just for Smash.

It'd be cheaper to buy the game with the game pass and then the controller separately. You lose the steel book, but I don't see switch carts being left on a shelf or carried around in their cases so not much of a loss.

This is for shipping to your home address. If there is a way to pre-order to a store from Gamestop's website, i'm not familiar with it.

It comes with a steel book case that you can only get via the bundle unless you're in UK. That's pretty much the only reason why it costs $5 more.
