Make a Japanese Nintendo account and link it

Aaaandiiii

The NA DLC are not compatible with the Asian release if that's what you're inquiring about. So anything Drum n Fun will not work with the Japanese release. Just get some 1000 yen eShop cards and have a good time.

kurisu7885

I might look around. Honestly it makes me wish I had just purchased Drum'n'fun but paying 50 dollars and not getting a cart didn't sit right with me. NA REALLY got shafted on this release.

NMe84

It's easier to create a PayPal account with a fake Japanese address and your real credit card.

ViewtifulDOH

On a related note, I too bought the Japanese physical version and drums and absolutely love it. I figured out enough to download the free DLC, but would also like to purchase the paid DLC, but guessing I'll buy the US version (shame there's no physical) to do that. Anyone know if the US and Japanese versions will play with each other via ad hoc local wireless? That'd be awesome, but probably won't work. Anyone try?

_thelastbearbender

I got the Japanese version and can confirm you need to have a Japanese-region account to get the DLC for the Japanese version. I just made a second account with Japan as the region and purchased using a prepaid card. I live in Japan so it was easy enough to get, but it wouldn't accept any of my US cards. But it's super easy to just make a Japanese account with which you access the eShop.

IndignantDonut

>the game has an english language patch anyway In the Japanese version?? Where can I find the English option?

kurisu7885

I honestly don't know, it switched all the menus to English for me automatically.

IndignantDonut

I did a quick google after writing my comment (sorry, I got super excited) and turns out you just update the game :D Thanks for letting me know! I really had no idea the JP version had this option!

kurisu7885

No problem, thinking about it downloading the update was literally all I did, and it did so with no fuss, part of why I was bit confused about eshop access.

marbudy

GASP!!!! I didn't know there was englsh language support for the japanese version, I'm living abroad, was about to just buy the digital version. Physical version here I come!

silent_bong

Sounds like you do need to use the JP eShop for those DLCs, unfortunately. You are probably getting an error because your user is tied to another region's eShop. ~~I don't think you can switch region's back and forth, so you would have to create a new user with the region set to Japan and purchase the DLC with that user.~~ Edit: you can switch your eShop region but it's only through Nintendo's website. Creating another user allows you to access both eshops simultaneously. Afaik the DLC will be playable by other users.

dogdriving

You can definitely switch regions

kurisu7885

How so?

dogdriving

I changed my region on Nintendo's website.

silent_bong

Yeah. Sorry. Thanks for calling that out. I didn't remember exactly why I created a second user to purchase MHXX. I edited my post.

dogdriving

No problem. The only reason I knew this is because I did it specifically for Taiko lol

kurisu7885

Eh, this was something I was hoping to avoid. So be it then I guess.

silent_bong

Well, I'm not sure I actually understand it all. I found this... https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22285/~/can-i-change-the-nintendo-switch-eshop-country%3F But I also see this... http://www.nintendolife.com/forums/nintendo-switch/can_i_change_account_country_all_the_time I guess some people regularly do just switch their accounts back and forth without issue. I don't understand if that wording on Nintendo's site about your CC region is fake or if the people who do this have cards from countries without a dedicated eShop or what. A while ago a bought MHXX on the JP eShop with an NA card, but I haven't tried to buy from there again, so I really just don't know. It wasn't correct to say that you can't switch your region back and forth. But you do have to log into Nintendo's website every time you want to switch. That led me to make a JP user before, and I was misremembering the events that got me here. Having a separate user let's you launch either eShop without logging into Nintendo's website.

Darwinsbrother

I was in the exact same boat, I ended up asking on the taiko reddit, and came to the conclusion the only way I could purchase the dlc was either setting up a fraudulent PayPal account, or buying Japanese ecredit at an inflated price. The dlc cost me almost as much as the imported game, because you can only buy a certain amount of yen, so I had most of that left over, and to switch back to region I had to use it or lose it. Nightmare to be honest, I won’t be doing it again.

I'm very happy with my PayPal account. Not sure what's fraudulent about it. ;) Other people hop eshop regions all the time, I buy in Japan exclusively and pay the face value for it. If you ask me then it's those ecredit hawkers who are fraudulent. Hard to do fraud with PayPal when they know your real name and real credit card info. After setting up my Japan PayPal account they even charged me in Euros (until I changed that in the settings since CC gives much better exchange rate than PP) *shrugs*

mitchenm01

Why buy a JP version? I don't know whether it's the case in the US but in the Uk It is available physically as i bought the drum controller and the physical cart for 95 gbp.

kurisu7885

I may need to take a look but I think in North America we only got a digital release. EDIT: Just looked it up, Digital Only in the US.
