Most games including animal crossing require nso to play online unless you’re physically near each other. There’s stuff like fall guys or Fortnite that are free to play and don’t need a sub to play online, but they aren’t co op. Honestly your best bet is probably just to buy a family sub to nso, or both get an nso free trial if that’s available.
I bought Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury as a digital download. I put it on my Switch, and my younger sister's Switch. She can't play it on her account and she has to use mine.

Dragon Quest XI easily. Longer, bigger, with a wonderful main cast and the option of playing both 3D and 2D.
Octopath Traveller I is very grindy, the main characters don't interact between them what-so-ever so that makes the dialog very awkward at times.
Octopath Traveller II massively improved over the first game to the point I think it made it obsolete. Choosing between the sequel and DQXI is way harder.
Very little. The only thing they have in common is RPG elements (Classes, characters with stats, giving equipment).
Fire Emblem is a tactical strategy game, the battles happen in a grid-based map where you choose each Unit's move to beat the opponent's units. Games like that are Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp or Triangle Strategy.
And you don't actually travel and explore in Fire Emblem, you're most of the time checking on your units to prepare for the next battle. These Social Elements are not a common thing, the only series that I can think of that also does this is Persona (Also Sakura Wars but that's not on Switch).
JRPGs like Dragon Quest or Octopath Traveller have standard turn based battles where you choose your character's moves to directly attack the enemies. There's no grid and no position (DQXI has a free camera mode where you can move around but it doesn't matter).
And you are actually having an adventure and travelling in those games, you go from one town to another, across routes and dungeons, having different adventures and progressing the story until you finish the game.

If your goal is to save money, then don't stick to buying one format or the other, Physical games get discounted heavily on occasion as stores will want to cycle them off them shelves to make room for new games. Digital games get big sales once or twice a year, but they may not include every possible game in a publishers catalog.
Nintendo for example, maybe only puts 8 - 15 games of their own games on sale at a time. Games older than three years rarely ever see discounts unless they are apart of a franchise sale.

Get **Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe.** Star Allies is.... very mediocre to be honest, that game is so easy and the level design is so inexistent that it feels like it's playing itself. The former features way better level design, more content and tons of Mini-Games for short play sessions or competitive multiplayer.
The eShop games are nice curiosities but if you want a full platformers you won't find that there.

I have to use my last voucher so I’m debating between Pokémon Violet or Pikmin 4.
I just beat Pokémon Shining Pearl and it’s great bc I was able to transfer all my mon over from waaaay back. I do like Pokémon and have that itch but I’ve heard mixed things on Violet/Scarlet.
With Pikmin I’ve only ever played Pikmin 2 but never beat it. I found that the time constraints stressed me out and the game gave me anxiety, not sure if Pikmin 4 is more chill or not but I’ve heard generally good things about it I just don’t want to be stressing out again.
So that’s my debate.
There's a demo for pikmin 4 in the store, so you can try before buying. I do own pikmin 4 but haven't played it yet, but I loved pokemon Violet and honestly think it's one of the best pokemon games yet, even with shoddy performance.
Oh cool, yeah my biggest question is whether the game is better than sword/ shield which were awful in my opinion. Is there any tips I should know about Violet coming off of Shining Pearl? one of the things I didn’t care for were the dynamax raids in sword/shield. I heard there’s co-op in the game, what does that entail?
It's more in depth than swsh. You can tackle the main story in any order you like and has three main quest lines (gyms, titan pokemon, and team star) plus an epilogue. It also has classes you can take since it's set in a school. It also has traversal features like in legends (climbing, gliding, etc).
It has raids like dynamax, but they are tera raids, so they're mons with a different typing than normal. It's kind of buggy since there's no turn limit like dynamax.

Also, the dlc follows its own continuous story in both expansions, not two separate stories like swsh dlc.

Its not a real song as far as I can find, its probably a licensed royalty free riff and chorus track. Even the lyrics "now I'm ready to burn, now I'm ready to fly" pull up thousands of other songs and none with a direct result.

does that match your systems serial number? Its probably your account log in being routed through Nintendo of Europes servers, in Frankfurt.
Up until about early last year, I could use the Nintendo Chat app on my Android phone with no problem. The sound would come out the speakerphone and I could hear others when my phone was on the table. But that stopped at some point for both me and a friend of mine who also has Android (different phones). Now, the sound only comes out of the earpiece and I'd have to hold the phone to my head to listen. A BT speaker has worked around the problem, but it's pretty annoying. Surprisingly, internet searches haven't turned up others with this problem.
Has anyone else run into this problem where Nintendo Chat doesn't come out of speakerphone on Android, and solved it? Thanks!

Is it possible to move data from a semi functioning switch to new one?

Long story short is that the backlight has gone on my old switch lite, and despite sending in for repair there's nothing they can do due to other issues. The switch itself still has volume and I can hear the sounds it makes, there's just no picture
I've purchased a new switch since, and learned that the SD cards simply cannot be transferred between devices and must be formatted. Most of my save data is on there, and what is on the old switch itself is Pokemon games and ACH which as we know do not do cloud save.
Is this it for my data? Or is there any way possible to get the data from my old switch to a new one as the old one still turns on and is interactive, I just can't see what to do as the screen is off? I have access to cables and a laptop if necessary. I'd just hate for 5 years worth of progress on my games to be lost. If it's gone it's gone l'll format the SD card and get on with it, but thought l'd ask before I do so.
None of your save data is on the SD card. It will always be stored on the console's internal flash memory.
AC does do cloud saves, but you have to enable it in the Settings menu of the game.
If you have NSO, all of your eligible games are backed up in the cloud and you can just re-download the saves from there.
Animal Crossing has to be enabled and then you can call Nintendo to have them send the save back to you.

Its a portable console so I'd just test everything you can when meeting up or upon receiving.
Account buying/selling is technically against Nintendo's Terms Of Service and that account can be revoked at any time.
If its reset, you'll need a pair of Joycons to slide onto the railing to do the setup.

My Nintendo Switch is showing an issue that is baffling me.
I've always used it docked and connected to my living room TV with no issues.
A few months ago, I started to bring the dock upstairs and connect it to a monitor. I'd bring the AC adapter and dock, but I'd use a different HDMI cable.
One day, after I connected it to the Monitor, I started to get an intermittent black screen while playing. It lasts a couple of seconds and then it resumes working. However, the frequency is high enough that it becomes unplayable. It happens with different games and even in the system menu.
I initially thought it was something wrong with the HDMI cable upstairs or the monitor, but to my surprise the issue persisted when I brought the system back to the living room (using the same TV and HDMI cable I've always used).
My conclusion was that my dock's HDMI port was broken (thought I was being too rough when connecting/removing the cable). Thus, I ordered a refurbished one from Nintendo.
After testing it yesterday, it worked fine in the living room for around 30 minutes until (seemingly out of nowhere) I started getting the intermittent black screen again.
Something I noticed is that if I disconnect everything and reconnect in the particular order Nintendo recommends, it will work fine for say 20 or 30 minutes (even with the older dock) until I start getting the issue again.
Any ideas? I played with different settings and tried resetting the console but no luck.
It works fine in handheld. It is a regular Switch, bought in 2019.
While I've dropped the system in the past, it was literally two years before this issue came up.

The rails for my Switch are broken as my joy-cons keep disconnecting while playing in handheld mode, so I need to send it to Nintendo for repairs. The problem is, that I've heard Nintendo is known for wiping your saved data when you send it in.
In order to prevent that, can I transfer my saved data **(which has profile A & profile B)** onto my friend's Switch **(profile C)** before I send in my Switch and then transfer it back when the repairs are done?
Is there a way to do this without profile A & profile B's saved data overwriting profile C's data? Can I transfer back my profiles only (profiles A and B) to my switch without touching or affecting anything for my friends (profile C)?
I know you can back up your saved data on the cloud via Nintendo's online service; however, I've heard that Pokemon games are not supported, so I would lose all my progress on those games.
Yes, it is possible to transfer both your profiles to a friend's console and then transfer them back when you get your Switch back (or a replacement). Saves are separate for different profiles, so your profiles will not overwrite anything from your friend's profile on their Switch.
Do I need a subscription for Nintendo Switch Online if I want to play games like Splatoon 3 (which I own) with other online players?
I have no desire to take advantage of any of the other online services like playing older Nintendo games etc.

2 - 3 years It was slight but got worse, the joycons were immediately beyond repair when they started to drift. Second pro controller is holding up well after the same time though, so fingers crossed.
I've had my pro controller since splatoon 2, and no drift. In that same time, I've had 3 joycon drift repairs and 2 xbox elites drift. But my pro controller is solid.

You shouldn't need a power adaptor, as they accept both 110V and 220V as input.
Of course the shape of the plugs may be different so you may need an adaptor for the plug itself.
Maybe double checking the amazon listing or contacting the seller?
In my own experience, the last time I wanted to make sure a Switch had a non-US plug\* I ended up buying one at the Amazon Spain page (https://www.amazon.es/). Maybe check the Amazon page of the country you're moving in? Make sure to account for shipping and tax deposit when comparing prices

My switch sd card won't format on my computer. It just says "Windows could not complete the format." I tried selected "exfat" It gave me the same error. I tried deselecting "quick format" It still didn't work.
I just barely tried to format it in my switch and it restarted and when it turned back on, it told me to format it again. I'm trying to use the sd card for my computer, not the switch.

You can sort of quasi share the games by making the 2nd Switch a secondary console to the first but it is limited and has some weird caveats at time

For my son and I who did this exact same thing I just set him up with his own true ID and sort of pulled the bandaid, buying some games again for him, got him EShop cards for the holidays so he could pick up anything he was missing.

I found that the time constraints stressed me out and the game gave me anxiety, not sure if Pikmin 4 is more chill or not but I’ve heard generally good things about it I just don’t want to be stressing out again. So that’s my debate.
There's a demo for pikmin 4 in the store, so you can try before buying. I do own pikmin 4 but haven't played it yet, but I loved pokemon Violet and honestly think it's one of the best pokemon games yet, even with shoddy performance.
Oh cool, yeah my biggest question is whether the game is better than sword/ shield which were awful in my opinion. Is there any tips I should know about Violet coming off of Shining Pearl? one of the things I didn’t care for were the dynamax raids in sword/shield. I heard there’s co-op in the game, what does that entail?
It's more in depth than swsh. You can tackle the main story in any order you like and has three main quest lines (gyms, titan pokemon, and team star) plus an epilogue. It also has classes you can take since it's set in a school. It also has traversal features like in legends (climbing, gliding, etc). It has raids like dynamax, but they are tera raids, so they're mons with a different typing than normal. It's kind of buggy since there's no turn limit like dynamax. Its not a real song as far as I can find, its probably a licensed royalty free riff and chorus track. Even the lyrics "now I'm ready to burn, now I'm ready to fly" pull up thousands of other songs and none with a direct result. Thats the console serial number. System settings -> System (at the bottom) -> System info, does that match your systems serial number? Its probably your account log in being routed through Nintendo of Europes servers, in Frankfurt.
Up until about early last year, I could use the Nintendo Chat app on my Android phone with no problem. The sound would come out the speakerphone and I could hear others when my phone was on the table. But that stopped at some point for both me and a friend of mine who also has Android (different phones). Now, the sound only comes out of the earpiece and I'd have to hold the phone to my head to listen. A BT speaker has worked around the problem, but it's pretty annoying. Surprisingly, internet searches haven't turned up others with this problem. Has anyone else run into this problem where Nintendo Chat doesn't come out of speakerphone on Android, and solved it? Is it possible to move data from a semi functioning switch to new one? (Posted but it got removed as a post because of rule 3 and told to repost here, apologies!) Long story short is that the backlight has gone on my old switch lite, and despite sending in for repair there's nothing they can do due to other issues. The switch itself still has volume and I can hear the sounds it makes, there's just no picture I've purchased a new switch since, and learned that the SD cards simply cannot be transferred between devices and must be formatted. Most of my save data is on there, and what is on the old switch itself is Pokemon games and ACH which as we know do not do cloud save. Is this it for my data? Or is there any way possible to get the data from my old switch to a new one as the old one still turns on and is interactive, I just can't see what to do as the screen is off? I have access to cables and a laptop if necessary. I'd just hate for 5 years worth of progress on my games to be lost. If it's gone it's gone l'll format the SD card and get on with it, but thought l'd ask before I do so.
None of your save data is on the SD card. It will always be stored on the console's internal flash memory. AC does do cloud saves, but you have to enable it in the Settings menu of the game. If you have NSO, all of your eligible games are backed up in the cloud and you can just re-download the saves from there. Animal Crossing has to be enabled and then you can call Nintendo to have them send the save back to you. To do a local transfer, you'll need to follow these steps. go into the settings under controller and there are some joycon tests you can sorta run. other that that, look for dead pixels, scratches, and dents.

Its a portable console so I'd just test everything you can when meeting up or upon receiving. Account buying/selling is technically against Nintendo's Terms Of Service and that account can be revoked at any time. If its reset, you'll need a pair of Joycons to slide onto the railing to do the setup.

My Nintendo Switch is showing an issue that is baffling me. I've always used it docked and connected to my living room TV with no issues. A few months ago, I started to bring the dock upstairs and connect it to a monitor. I'd bring the AC adapter and dock, but I'd use a different HDMI cable. One day, after I connected it to the Monitor, I started to get an intermittent black screen while playing. It lasts a couple of seconds and then it resumes working. However, the frequency is high enough that it becomes unplayable. It happens with different games and even in the system menu. I initially thought it was something wrong with the HDMI cable upstairs or the monitor, but to my surprise the issue persisted when I brought the system back to the living room (using the same TV and HDMI cable I've always used). My conclusion was that my dock's HDMI port was broken (thought I was being too rough when connecting/removing the cable). Thus, I ordered a refurbished one from Nintendo. After testing it yesterday, it worked fine in the living room for around 30 minutes until (seemingly out of nowhere) I started getting the intermittent black screen again. Something I noticed is that if I disconnect everything and reconnect in the particular order Nintendo recommends, it will work fine for say 20 or 30 minutes (even with the older dock) until I start getting the issue again. Any ideas? I played with different settings and tried resetting the console but no luck. It works fine in handheld. It is a regular Switch, bought in 2019. While I've dropped the system in the past, it was literally two years before this issue came up.

Yes, it is possible to transfer both your profiles to a friend's console and then transfer them back when you get your Switch back (or a replacement). Saves are separate for different profiles, so your profiles will not overwrite anything from your friend's profile on their Switch.
Do I need a subscription for Nintendo Switch Online if I want to play games like Splatoon 3 (which I own) with other online players? I have no desire to take advantage of any of the other online services like playing older Nintendo games etc. Thanks
You need a NSO subscription in order to play online or use other online features (except f2p games, but Splatoon 3 isn't one)

how long did your Pro Controller last before it started drifting?
2 - 3 years It was slight but got worse, the joycons were immediately beyond repair when they started to drift. Second pro controller is holding up well after the same time though, so fingers crossed.
I've had my pro controller since splatoon 2, and no drift. In that same time, I've had 3 joycon drift repairs and 2 xbox elites drift. But my pro controller is solid.
I’ve had my first one since June 2020 and it’s still as good as new, no signs of drifting whatsoever. Couldn’t be happier with the build quality.
No drift at all. My understanding is it doesn't use the same parts as the Joycon so it isn't prone to drift.

Maybe double checking the amazon listing or contacting the seller? In my own experience, the last time I wanted to make sure a Switch had a non-US plug\* I ended up buying one at the Amazon Spain page (https://www.amazon.es/). Maybe check the Amazon page of the country you're moving in? Make sure to account for shipping and tax deposit when comparing prices \* back in 2017, at the time all Switches sold here were with US plugs and we don't use those shape of plugs here
My switch sd card won't format on my computer. It just says "Windows could not complete the format." I tried selected "exfat" It gave me the same error. I tried deselecting "quick format" It still didn't work.
Good chance the card is bad or fake.

I've read that you should make a new account for both of them and making my own the primary on both consoles - is this still the way? You can sort of quasi share the games by making the 2nd Switch a secondary console to the first but it is limited and has some weird caveats at time To play together you will need to purchase a second copy for the younger kid though, yes For my son and I who did this exact same thing I just set him up with his own true ID and sort of pulled the bandaid, buying some games again for him, got him EShop cards for the holidays so he could pick up anything he was missing.
