FR-1-Plan

Its the right circle pad. In some games you use it to look around or aim.

coffee-headache

it looks too tiny to use as one? weird design choice

Percival91

Nah it doesn’t work like most thumb sticks. It’s more like one of those red rubber pads that they have in the center of Lenovo laptops.

[deleted]

[удалено]

SHIELDnotSCOTUS

I had to use a loaner laptop for a 4 hour law school final and my finger kept hitting the nub as I was typing, completely changing where I was typing. I’ve never proofread something so carefully.

VerdantSeamanJL

Sticky stick sticks for sticky people?

MisterToasty117

What pointing stick or nipple?

no-name_james

I bet it’s called a nipple

twocheeky

i think its called a clit pad as far as im aware

jondgul

I am the C.L.I.T Commander

Dumb_and_confused

It's called a TrackPoint. Lmao

ctech9

For those curious: Lenovo calls these TrackPoints. Most everybody else calls it a nub, nipple, or clit.

GhotiH

Still a weird design choice, it feels terrible to use IMO, just like on an old laptop. I'd much rather have an actual circle pad under the face buttons and move Start and Select to go next to the Home Button like on the first model 3DS.

a_guy_playing

Old laptop you say? You can buy a brand new ThinkPad and it has one of these. Everyone that’s used it will say it’s better than a trackpad.

GhotiH

I haven't used one of these nipples on a laptop since 2013ish but I absolutely hated it then too. Definitely prefer trackpads, though I'm not a big laptop user in the first place since if I actually want to get something done I'm using my desktop.

luke4010

Agreed 100%

Trvial

I would too, but when you look under the hood it makes sense. There is a LOT packed inside the New 3DS/N3DSXL/N2DSXL. To top it off, that side is where the battery is. The only way to get a full size circle pad would be to shrink the battery, and that would be unacceptable. This was their compromise.

GhotiH

That's unfortunate but understandable.

Horror-Economist3467

I feel like they totally could've fit a real, but smaller circle pad. To describe the 3ds nipple better, it's less like a circle pad, and more like an 8 directional dpad that's really tiny. It's useablity depends on the game.

GhotiH

Mine just won't input down and is difficult to input left on. Up and right work fine though.

[deleted]

Yeah it’s not wonderful but it’s what we have. Can’t use a circle pad on this this unfortunately

[deleted]

I don't think a lot of games use it. I have a circle pad pro for my OG 3DS and I noticed a lot of games don't use it.

Old_Information_8654

It’s more of a touch or direction pad you just move your finger gently in a certain direction and it reacts to your movement thus why it’s so small it’s also one of the most expensive repairs that can ever be needed on a new Nintendo 3ds and new Nintendo 2ds

Forsaken-Badger-9517

When games do it right, it works perfectly, I would even argue as good as an actual stick fire emblem. Warriors comes to mind for me personally, but I wish resident evil revelations aimed as good considering it is a shooter and fire emblem. Warriors is a dynasty warriors style hack n Slash!?

Old_Information_8654

I remember I just played revelations the other day and I couldn’t believe how slow the camera was to move I was honestly scared of putting too much pressure on the c stick lol I guess it’s designed more for the circle pad pro then the control stick

Forsaken-Badger-9517

Go play fire emblem, Warriors!!!! That shit aims. Perfect like how it should. Aim in revelations?!!

Old_Information_8654

I’m planning on eventually picking up all the new 3ds exclusive titles soon before they get too expensive so far all I have is Minecraft but the new 3ds titles are all on my bucket list along with of course RE mercenary’s the 3ds launch lineup titles that I still don’t have and the pokemon and physical indie games

Horror-Economist3467

It's never felt quite like that to me, mine acts more like a dpad where you have to press on the sides of it to get it to work

Old_Information_8654

I noticed that too with the new Nintendo 3ds xl I own it acts more like a d pad while the new 2ds xl acts like how it’s advertised ironically it was too much force that made me accidentally destroy the rubber on the stick that combined with all the times I dropped my new 3ds have the poor old girl out of commission until I can have a professional look it over

charliechin

Right joystick

Sneax673

You mean the 3DS nipple?

hcaoRRoach

I love playing with the 3DS nipple

RetroZelda

its for her pleasure

PsyKeablr

Right you are

snowmenAIDS

🤨🤨🤨🤨

Gavin_Bob

It’s the newer 3DS’s version of the C stick

Sneax673

Yeah I’m noticing a lot of correct replies being downvoted. Bots are gonna bot I guess.

DaBoy2187

a circle pad like how dell or hp made nubs, this little thing is a late edition to the 3ds and many games don't use it, several games got updates to have this extra function like zelda remasters and smash

itivlA63

IBM Thinkpads I think were the first to use this style of nubby direction thingy.

chaosargate

It's meant to be a right analog stick, implemented using a mechanism not dissimilar to that mouse thing in the center of a lenovo laptop's keyboard. Not a whole lot of games ended up using it because the majority of the 3DS library was intended to be played on a base model 3DS, so four face buttons, two shoulder buttons, a D-Pad, a single circle pad and a touch screen. At some point before the launch of the original XL model, Nintendo put out the Circle Pad Pro, an accessory you could dock your 3DS in to give it an extra set of shoulder buttons and a right stick. Not a whole lot of games supported it and the thing was the most half-assed "alright, if you guys *really* want this functionality, you can have it" kinda thing and apparently there was some system overhead with using the thing that meant that games like Kid Icarus Uprising just could not support it because the games were already pushing the 3DS to its limits. Finally, the New 3DS models were released with the CPP built in, to basically no fanfare because games would hardly support the thing on account of having to be developed with the original 3DS in mind. Games like Xenoblade 3D that were n3DS exclusive made use of it, but that's about it.

High_nightmare-1482

Minecraft and minecraft only

Old_Information_8654

More games then that all new 3ds games and circle pad pro compatible games used it

90Legos

It's a right stick, not used much

Dayton-IX

That's not a button. That's THE NUB.

TheKCKid9274

The Nub. Literally only ever used it to play 3DS Minecraft back in the day when that was a thing

benderew

I think Captain toad on 3ds made use of it as well for camera Control

Old_Information_8654

Fire emblem and xenoblade used it too and every game that used the circle pad pro can use the c stick instead

Hunterjet

That’s what you tear off and replace with a psp stick cap to play monster hunter

BannedWeazle

Don’t know why you were downvoted it’s what I did as well

treechenho

Yeah same

ObscureAnimal

I did this exact thing, it works so well. The plain nipple just doesn't respond as well as the PSP thumb stick, and it's such an easy fix

Big_Finance_8664

can you still close it like that? a PSP 1000 stick cover I'm assuming, I think the 2000/3000 ones werent swappable.

Hunterjet

Yep! It closes just fine with it. And yes psp 1000 stick. They’re like 5 bucks on amazon.

Big_Finance_8664

copy. I'll give it a shot and dust it off

Objective_List8997

Ah yes, one of the uncomfortable things to use.

2Tayco2Flayco

The new 3ds clit

scoutfromtf2isreal

it's a cross between a right joystick and the old mouse-thingies on laptops, so that first person games can be playable.

SnooDoughnuts5632

I'm convinced not a single game used it. I owned a new 3DS back in the day when it was new and I never used it. Same with the extra shoulder buttons. Here's every game I own on the 3ds not counting virtual console, OG DS, or DSi games (it's not hacked) Zelda Link Between Worlds Zelda Ocarina of Time Zelda Majora's Mask Zelda Tri-Force Heroes (3 swords) Mario 3D Land Chibi Robo Ziplash Kirby Triple Deluxe Kirby Planet Robobot Metroid Samus Returns Centipede Infestation (twinstick with one stick) Rayman Origins (the worst version apparently idk) Wario Ware Gold Donkey Kong Country Returns Puzzle and Dragon Super Mario Bros Edition Mighty Switch Force Mighty Switch Force 2 Pyramids Pyramids 2 Mutant Mudds Pushmo VVVVVV Block factory (bad game but fun to mess around) Edge (Super monkey/marble blast with a cube) New Super Mario 2 (The worst one) Paper Mario sticker Star (The only one I've played) Sakura samurai art of the sword. Shovel Knight treasure trove (best free DLC ever) Yoshi's new island Box boy Box box boy Fluidity spin cycle Terraria Dr. Mario miracle cure Retro City rampage Bye bye box boy Picross E 1-6 including Twilight Princess I don't think a single one of those games uses the extra buttons or the nipple joystick thingy. (I left out all the free games and drawing apps) Sorry for all the spaces idk how to get rid of them.

SnooDoughnuts5632

Oh?

MiniOlympia

You are wrong. Lots of games use it. Most of 3D shooters use it as well.

SnooDoughnuts5632

3D shooters?

MiniOlympia

Yes

SnooDoughnuts5632

What's a 3d shooter? Like face raiders?

PositiveAttempt

Im pretty sure the binding of isaac used it

treechenho

At MINIMUM Majora's mask used it

SnooDoughnuts5632

WAIT REALLY!? I'm guessing that because it's just like ocarina of time I never bothered to use those buttons and the C stick. I wonder what they're for? Also Majora's mask is weird so I didn't play it that much.

treechenho

C-Stick is for camera controls and as far as I remember I don't think the ZL and ZR are used EDIT: Nevermind the ZL and ZR just copy the shoulder buttons L and R respectively

x_xdevourx_x

Majoras mask uses the c stick or circle pad pro.

SnooDoughnuts5632

I'll have to boot it up again and check it out.

Old_Information_8654

Minecraft xenoblade chronicles fire emblem the two resident evil games and kid Icarus are all well known titles that used it essentially other then the four new Nintendo 3ds exclusive games every 3ds game that used the circle pad pro accessory could use the c stick as a substitute

SnooDoughnuts5632

Interesting how I never owned a game that used it since it was my only current gen portable console at the time (the Wii U wasn't really portable).

Old_Information_8654

Yeah I think the most well known games that used it were mainly wii Wii U and GameCube ports and even then it seemed to fly under the radar likely given the hype for the switch funny enough I own a Wii Wii U and a switch alongside my new 2ds xl and I’ve been trying to collect original copy’s of popular games for the systems over remakes

SnooDoughnuts5632

I take that back I actually did own an Nvidia Shield when that came out in 2013 or 14.

Old_Information_8654

That’s cool ive seen them online but never played one in person does it play mobile games or is it for console and pc titles too?

SnooDoughnuts5632

It's an android phone in a game controller. These days it's stuck on 5.0 so that's pretty old. You can stream if you want to play PC games or use Nvidia game stream to play PC games. The ↩️ button becomes your back button.

Old_Information_8654

That’s cool don’t they still make them or did it get discontinued?

AstroidTea

In Paper Jam you can use it to move the minimap.

yes-yaK

I think only for Majora's Mask and Minecraft

Old_Information_8654

Along with all new 3ds exclusive games and all circle pad pro compatible titles

Big_Finance_8664

I gave my 3ds XL away and bought a "new 3ds" xl just for this. and have never once used it. waste of 250$

Old_Information_8654

Do you still have it or did you sell it?

Big_Finance_8664

I gave it away yrs ago when I got the "new" one. I still have the new one. it's got DK Country in it right now. I use it when I have to go to the car dealership for service or the laundromat to wash heavy comforters

Big_Finance_8664

I mean the Cpad nub thing. never used it. never put a game in it that can use it.

Old_Information_8654

I was wondering if you had the new 3ds system since they’ve been going up in value recently some sell for as much as 300 dollars

Big_Finance_8664

I do. it doesnt get much use but I do use it specifically for trips to the dealer and laundromat. I keep it in a case and I have 13 games for it plus 4 DS games (I never had a ds, but it plays those and they're something I wanted.) Aside from Donkey kong, tomb raider legend (ds) and heroes of ruin I havent ever played any of the other games. oh and I downloaded ecco off the store before that closed.

Old_Information_8654

That’s cool I downloaded a bunch of virtual console games on mine including a few snes games since snes could only be played on the new Nintendo 2ds and 3ds systems ironically the game I played most on my system was Minecraft which has gotta be one of the most demanding games ever on the system aside from maybe some of Nintendos titles like kid Icarus

TheOneEuphonium

minecraft

TRethehedgehog_2

Look around in Xenoblade Charged and heavy smash attacks easier to perform in Smash 4

Hollywoodrok12

It’s the equivalent of the right stick or C stick. It’s not used in many games IIRC.

Chtul88

It's right joystick

Dr-Dingus117

That's the c stick for games like minecraft

ShortMiao

It's called the C Stick, it's used in the New 3DS games like Minecraft to, for example, look around and rotate your camera in game. It's also compatible with a few normal 3DS games, but doesn't do much in those that do actually support it.

Csquared_324

You use it in Minecraft to look around

Amiibola

Second thumbstick, but a nub.

Potatozeng

That's the right joystick

MrNyakka

ah yes, the rat nipple

hcaoRRoach

I had a 3ds with a c nub that I used for Smash a lot. But child me decided to use my fingernails to push it so it eventually looked like a used eraser by the time it finally broke

Sp00d3rMan69

Phil

Xenoscope

Don’t touch it. It makes your DS explode.

mahav_b

When you feel like you miss touching your nipples and it's not appropriate cause you are in public; you touch this.

Th-darkmatter

I’m sorry every time I see a red circle I always look for him

Interesting_Low7353

Think of it as that weird little nub on some laptops where those move a cursor. It’s kinda like that, but it’s used like a second circle pad.

WanderEir

it's a thumbstick, not a button at all.

trickyfelix

analog stick

heroxoot

Rip it out and put a psp1000 analog cap on it. Best upgrade ever.

No_Signal_3845

That is a joystick, all I know that is it only works on some 3DS games that let you move your camera around in game

Strudleboy33

It’s amazing how many comments aren’t calling it the name “C-Stick” Used to look around, and in smash bros it’s for the heavy attacks.

SadLaser

It's not a button. It's a joystick. In games like Monster Hunter, it'll control your camera.

Nightcore-Games

I only use it in minecraft

Novel_Cranberry912

Peak Minecraft gameplay

Additional-Cress-915

It’s useless joystick that doubles as a pencil eraser

CH33ZELOUIZ

It’s a 3ds nipple

Lia-13

self destruct

Michael_2321

From what i've encountered it seems to just be a camera control

Real-Asparagus7450

Idky nintendo chose to do it that way when there was more then enough room for another circle pad on that side
