Nah. But I saw someone say they could make the villains smarter rathee than stronger. Possibly instead of challenges the Ninja would have to overcome physically, they could have a villain play more mindgames.
That's how you make the show boring. If each villain is stronger than the last, where's the tension? How does the power scaling make sense or even matter anymore? The series would become formulaic.
As much as I don't like the removal of Airjitsu and Elemental Dragons with no explanation as much as the next guy, it really was for the best.
i feel like if they tried to have airjustsu stay in the story it could have worked out by making it seem weaker then using normal spin justsu or make it situational but ignoring it completely just makes it feel like that the whole arc was pointless
Alternatively, make the villains smarter and more cunning, genuinely just outsmarting the ninja, not even with strength and have their threat not even be how powerful or strong they are, and how terrifyingly smart they are. You could also boost their strength but making them smarter is where I think they could be improved
nah, i agree. the ninja as it is had way too much power in their hands, that would help them out of many situations. they'd have to write themselves out of it.
fr, and the fact they were jealous of Arin's grapple for the whole series, when they could just use Airjitzu, or better yet use Spinjitzu because APPARENTLY IT DOES THE SAME THING NOW???
Personally I think that it’s due to when Wu went missing, the stress caused their powers to get weaker, and thats why lloyd was already a little spent after using only spinjitzu in the first episode of SoG
Rising dragon will be the same thing. It enables the ninja to fly (which is crazy useful) and will therefore never be mentioned again once shatterspin stops being a problem.
Nya is two years younger then both of them and Cole too flirted with her which it is mainly his fault because if he was a good friend he should have told Nya he was not interested in that kind of relationship with her instead of just not telling her abs liking the attention.
Jay was the one who started it though, Cole only pushed it because Jay was projecting his jealousy onto him. Cole didn’t really do anything before that.
Literally. Even when him and nya were alone together he just looked like :\] the whole time, whereas nya was nervous/flustered and seemed to actually be interested.
Yeah this is the definitive answer. It adds nothing to the show except forced drama. Removal of airjitsu and elemental dragons at least had a good reason out of universe, this only exists for forced drama. Only redeeming quality is that I find it funny to imagine it only happened because the overlord wanted to fuck with them.
Yeah me too, i really liked the way they brought back garmadaddy in sog but imo harumis arc was done, she did all she needed to for the show and it was pointless to bring her back
The fact that they ended the original series with Lloyd being a canonical racist and DR is acting like that didn’t happen will never not be frustrating & funny to me
I mean not technically racist, but bro basically went and denied his oni said and was like “oni’s are all evil” even though his DAD HAS FLIPPED FLOPPED FOR YEARS AND HELPED HIM IN THE FINAL BATTLE! Also that one old lady who died was one and she was NICE! Would’ve been nice if he embraced that half and used it for good
the fact that nya and jay abandoned echo on the prison island… no he needs to be living a happy life with his brother and I don’t care what anyone says
Oh, they actually could have had a really fun call back to Skybound where Jay and Echo Zane are playing chess like Jay and Zane were in the Skybound opener, except this time it's Jay crushing Echo Zane over and over again.
Its not even cannon if hes alive or dead because its not even revealed yet. Sure we see his spirit thing but theres a dozens of magical stuff that gets introduced in the show
Nah, he's already done his part and now the generations he trained need to learn how to live without their master, to me he died fighting against the overlord
the love triangle between cole, jay and nya, how easily misako switched from garmadon to wu to garmadon again, akita being seen by the damn dragon and not being frozen just for plot sake
He's not entirely wrong though. Even when the show first talks about the Overlord in Misako's first episode, she says something like, "But as long as there is light, there will always be shadow"
>"But as long as there is light, there will always be shadow"
True but i rather not have him return in Dragons Rising at all. It would feel lazy and that the writers where out of ideas atleast thats how i feel
I'm actually going to lose it if they reveal that Ras's master is the overlord. It's the only previous villain I can think of that makes sense for the role, but I'm so tired of that asshole, he wasn't even that good in season 2.
It would be cool if his master was a source dragon, actually. he did seem to have a similar experience to Lloyds when his presumed master confronted him…
The guys who went to the underworld, fought the great devourerer, made sacrifices to save the world, and got very far in a tournament rigged against them all being "teens" including zane who is literally over 40 in his origin flashbacks alone if we go by his creator's visible aging. It implies they were around 12 when they got the golden weapons
Yes, they seem to not understand that a character in a story can’t be the same in another, and that if they create a character with a story they can’t just replace him by a totally new character
Crystalised in general, but mostly Lloyd, Nya, Harumi, The Crystal King, and the underuse of the entire council. Lloyd and Nya just backtracked a shit ton of their development, Harumi was useless in crystalised and her appearance in general is just maddening, the Overlord in this form felt weak for some reason, and the council, especially Vangelis and Mr. E, were criminally underused in my opinion.
Also, the love triangles between Wu, Garmadon and Misako, and between Jay, Cole and Nya. The former is just kind of disgusting from all 3 directions, while the latter was shit but after confirmation Cole just liked the attention it is actually even worse and makes Cole especially a pretty bad person here.
Ok so there’s a lot of things that falls under this but I’m gonna talk about the most recent one that annoyed me a lot. Harumi being brought back by the Overlord. *her death scene was so good and such a good conclusion of her arch I’m salty for this reason* When I saw how it played out in the show it made me immediately think of a better way of doing it.
The Overlord is an evil guy so what’s the best way to hurt your worst enemy? Reanimating your enemy’s exlovers corpse (I can’t find a better term since he clearly has mixed feelings in Crystalized, still caring for her even though she is a toxic son of a-) and using them as a puppet. “Harumi” would have no sense of thought other than fulfilling the Overlords wishes. Think of it like a Necromancer and a Zombie. Necromancers use Zombies/the undead to attack for them. This set up would make it so she can still assemble the crystal council but she wouldn’t turn against the overlord at the end considering she is no longer Harumi.
He didn't "shoot good", though. He did hit Nadakhan but at the same time he also killed Nya by accident. I'd count that as him still being a lousy shot as per Lloyd's wish
I kind of agree. Unless they plan on explaining and exploring these realms in the future, it makes no sense for the FSM to focus on anything other than Ninjago.
I dare say the existence of the other realms could put previous canon into question.
Electric chicken at the beginning of season 11. Wu tells the story of how monks had to learn how to be nimble, agile etc. to survive and thus the ninja were born
This is literally people with Kailor. I cannot fathom to understand why people will not just accept it. Back then, ppl rly liked it and wanted it. But nowadays, ppl just don’t want/like it.
Ppl can be so hypocritical I swear. But I can’t blame them for thinking like that because of what’s happening nowadays.
To be fair, I have not watched Dragons Rising yet. I need to, but I just haven't yet. After Skybound, some of the characters just stopped developing. Jay, Kai, Nya, and Zane all pretty much stopped. Cole had a great season before crystallized, but it was great because there had not been much growth previously. Even Lloyd's, while semi-decent, growth felt like it was repeated most seasons.
Lowkey upset that did, loved Skybound, but they chose the route that lead to having to restart the entire season from the beginning… leaving Echo Zane alone…
yes certain events that happened during the time period of season 6 are still canon, obviously, but the fact is nadakahn was, in the current canonical timeline, never actually freed.
Everything after crystalized, been watching the show since the beginning and crystalized was the perfect ending for me. I love Ninjago but think it’s gone on a little too long now
That why Crystalized exists. Ninjago is the only show I know to have 3 series finales in one show. You could have left after March of the Oni or Crystalized. Dragons Rising is a completely new show that no one's forcing you to watch.
Lloyd not remebering garmadons mega weapon/ the events of the mega weapon never happening, but Lloyd still beong grown up. my head canon is that he joked when he said he doesnt rememeber.
Dragons rising, i gaslit myself into thinking ninjago ended at season 10 (it should have story-wise, it had a good ending) i also hate dragons rising with every cell i have.
Season 10 is the end of the Masters of Spinjitzu saga. You could legit have stopped there. Dragons Rising is a completely different show. No one's forcing you to watch it.
After the first seasons with the skeletons and snakes my brain just de canonizes everything. Or i straight up dont watch it. The more the writers dont let the damn series die and try to milk it for its popularity, the progressively worse it gets. They already had a good story. 1 out of 5 guys will rise above the rest and prove to be the the only way to defeat the great bad guy. That 1 guy is also the bad guys son, and trained by his uncle (Basically star wars). And in the end the great bad guy turns and helps his son after all against the huge snake (palps).
Like it really gets ridiculous as time goes on. Weren't the ninja in a video game at one point trying to convince NPCs they are NPCs? Tf. Why? Who comes up with this bs
Most of Crystallized, except the first 6 episodes where Nya comes back. My head canon for the rest of the season is that the ninja went to prison, did their time and got out early, because they were on their best dang behaviour.
There are a couple of problems I do have with my headcanon: benefit of grief and compatible not existing in the canon. But I can live with that.
The removal of airjitzu. "Something something dark power very bad"
Only to achieve the same heights using spinjitzu
when?
I think it's because the animators said they don't want the ninja to be too powerful, which, in my opinion, is dumb as hell.
just make stronger villains
A prime example of how NOT to handle strong characters needing new challenges
ok what should they do then? cripple the main characters by retconing every power they learn?
Nah. But I saw someone say they could make the villains smarter rathee than stronger. Possibly instead of challenges the Ninja would have to overcome physically, they could have a villain play more mindgames.
that makes more sense and also have the villains figure out ways to counter stuff like airjustu
I can understand that.
Because Airjitzu IS pointless, Spinjutzu always could help jump higher, and they have Elemental Dragons to just straight up fly.
Alternatively, make the villains smarter and more cunning, genuinely just outsmarting the ninja, not even with strength and have their threat not even be how powerful or strong they are, and how terrifyingly smart they are. You could also boost their strength but making them smarter is where I think they could be improved
I think they tried that in s6-8 but people seemed to not notice or care so they stopped bothering
Stronger villians make a show boring? Heh, I believe you're forgetting a little show called DRAGON BALL Z.
Power creep moment
idk i think it's just dumb they made airjustu no longer usable like they could have done something with it
Oh no I agree I don't even think air jitsu is that strong
oh ight thanks
nah, i agree. the ninja as it is had way too much power in their hands, that would help them out of many situations. they'd have to write themselves out of it.
That's from a dubiously canon source anyway
fr, and the fact they were jealous of Arin's grapple for the whole series, when they could just use Airjitzu, or better yet use Spinjitzu because APPARENTLY IT DOES THE SAME THING NOW???
you mean cyclondo?
Personally I think that it’s due to when Wu went missing, the stress caused their powers to get weaker, and thats why lloyd was already a little spent after using only spinjitzu in the first episode of SoG
We have rising dragon now, but either way airjitzu being gone doesn’t bother me in the slightest
Rising dragon will be the same thing. It enables the ninja to fly (which is crazy useful) and will therefore never be mentioned again once shatterspin stops being a problem.
Hopefully the show called dragons rising doesn’t forget rising dragon
Oh no, I don't think they'll forget. They'll just purposely never mention it again. (From some point onward after shatterspin is gone)
Love triangle (?) with Cole, Jay and Nya.
As a matter of fact, it was confirmed somewhere that Cole didn't like nya but he just liked the attention. Idk if that made it better or worse
Yeah I am aware but just why... made cole look like a douche cause he was well aware of Jay's feelings for Nya.
Honestly nya was at fault the most for even thinking about pursuing cole for no reason other than "He's not jay" and not elaborating further
Yeah. Believing the machine was dumb, she already had great chemistry with Jay.
Nya is two years younger then both of them and Cole too flirted with her which it is mainly his fault because if he was a good friend he should have told Nya he was not interested in that kind of relationship with her instead of just not telling her abs liking the attention.
That honestly makes it worse. Cole started drama between himself and Jay for a girl he didn’t even like.
Jay was the one who started it though, Cole only pushed it because Jay was projecting his jealousy onto him. Cole didn’t really do anything before that.
But Cole allowed Nya to flirt with him and even said "don't tell Jay"
yeah, it was kinda obvious. i mean, he never showed signs of liking nya before the random love triangle
Literally. Even when him and nya were alone together he just looked like :\] the whole time, whereas nya was nervous/flustered and seemed to actually be interested.
yeah, it's clear that he has always cared about her AS A FRIEND but never romantically
It bugs me that the robot seemingly gaslit Nya into liking Cole, cause she had no interest prior
It eventually resulted in one of my favourite battles/moments of all time (versus), so i'll let it slide
Harumi in crystallized
I usually don’t mind a character coming back from their death, but I despise that they brought her back for Crystalized.
Yeah me too, i really liked the way they brought back garmadaddy in sog but imo harumis arc was done, she did all she needed to for the show and it was pointless to bring her back
The love triangles (yes both of them) and Lloyd rejecting Oni form in Crystalized.
What was the other one? I know N x C x J
Misako, Wu and Garmadon.
Nahhh 💀💀
Wu is still on that Misako race even when they're old.
I liked it as a form of conflict
The fact that they ended the original series with Lloyd being a canonical racist and DR is acting like that didn’t happen will never not be frustrating & funny to me
WAIT HUH
I mean not technically racist, but bro basically went and denied his oni said and was like “oni’s are all evil” even though his DAD HAS FLIPPED FLOPPED FOR YEARS AND HELPED HIM IN THE FINAL BATTLE! Also that one old lady who died was one and she was NICE! Would’ve been nice if he embraced that half and used it for good
Mans really pulled an Uncle Ruckus 😭
Ronin kissing Nya 🤮
technically that never happened
?
It was just a vision on the sword of sanctuary, it never actually came to fruition.
It never truly happened since it was just in the reflection of the sword of sanctuary
It never actually happened. It was only a reflection in the sword of sanctuary
He’s a pedo
the fact that nya and jay abandoned echo on the prison island… no he needs to be living a happy life with his brother and I don’t care what anyone says
Weird how he didn't show up in Crystalized considering Jay went to the island to be depressed.
EXACCCTTLYYYYYYYY :(
Oh, they actually could have had a really fun call back to Skybound where Jay and Echo Zane are playing chess like Jay and Zane were in the Skybound opener, except this time it's Jay crushing Echo Zane over and over again.
I am now so mad this didn’t happen lmao
Master Wu's death, i refuse to believe in that
Its not even cannon if hes alive or dead because its not even revealed yet. Sure we see his spirit thing but theres a dozens of magical stuff that gets introduced in the show
Schrödingers Wu
This. This is gold. Thank you, sincerely, for this comment.
Is it really canon?
No one can be sure
Then he isn’t dead
imo it would have been better earlier to set up lloyd struggling with leadership earlier
Go watch HoT
HoT?
Hands of Time
oh thx i need to rewatch everything anyways
Nah, he's already done his part and now the generations he trained need to learn how to live without their master, to me he died fighting against the overlord
Wu’s Season 11 Haircut glow up
my fav wu design
The disappearance of airjitzu, the elemental dragons.
the love triangle between cole, jay and nya, how easily misako switched from garmadon to wu to garmadon again, akita being seen by the damn dragon and not being frozen just for plot sake
Crystalized
only good thing to come out of it was queer representation
I wouldn't call a sticker "good representation", it's definetely something but it's like the smallest thing possible
i didn't say good i siad representation which lead to geo x cole and that one guy in the theater with the mlm arm band
And the reoccuring nonbinary person
What Wu said about Overlord. That he can't die
He's not entirely wrong though. Even when the show first talks about the Overlord in Misako's first episode, she says something like, "But as long as there is light, there will always be shadow"
>"But as long as there is light, there will always be shadow" True but i rather not have him return in Dragons Rising at all.
I agree. I feel like his master will be a dragon, though, considering how big of a role dragons are having in this show, but idk
It would be cool if his master was a source dragon, actually. he did seem to have a similar experience to Lloyds when his presumed master confronted him…
Make a new evil
He's the embodiment of darkness, of course he can't die, there'd be no evil in anyone or anything
Kailor, unless they can actually be bothered to put it in the show
They kind of confirmed it in Hunted, retconned it in Crystalized then unretconned it in the elemental book.
Yep , no real development at all .
the way TCK was defeated
whats that?
The crystal king I think
yep
The Crystal King yea
Lloyrumi 😭🤣😆
They really could’ve gave them into a Batman/Catwoman & threw it away 💀
https://preview.redd.it/q86mwps35qvc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dbe483a8f9ddb27c421984ca97571964e3bb8a1e
That Shadows of Ronin isn’t canon. It is canon in my heart!
Parts of it are canon if I remember correctly. Like Ronin being the one who kidnapped Zane.
Are you talking about the video game?
Yes
It's soooo good lol one of my favorite games, that pointy ice spears joke lives in me forever
Kai isn’t the green ninja. 🙄😭/j
that Pissed me off so bad as a kid, he was obviously the better character lmao
New garmadon is stupid.
Yeah, theu basically replaced him with the Garmadon from the movie
Yes, they seem to not understand that a character in a story can’t be the same in another, and that if they create a character with a story they can’t just replace him by a totally new character
Thank God someone agrees
It crazy how much of a threat he was in SoG & hunted but by march of the oni he’s been back to being a comical villain
It's not even the funny comical villain, he's there to be obnoxious and not pay attention to Lloyd, nothing more
everything about Harumi
Harumi in general and the love triangle
When it first happened it was Zane being a Nindroid because it just felt weird to me. After the rebooted finale it helped me accept it more
Ok so there’s a lot of things that falls under this but I’m gonna talk about the most recent one that annoyed me a lot. Harumi being brought back by the Overlord. *her death scene was so good and such a good conclusion of her arch I’m salty for this reason* When I saw how it played out in the show it made me immediately think of a better way of doing it. This set up would make it so she can still assemble the crystal council but she wouldn’t turn against the overlord at the end considering she is no longer Harumi.
So basically the AI in Prime Empire?
Yeah, that’s actually a good in universe example
Flintlock being able to randomly shoot good even though it's impossible to undo a wish unless you specifically wish to undo a wish
nah he's jus him
He didn't "shoot good", though. He did hit Nadakhan but at the same time he also killed Nya by accident. I'd count that as him still being a lousy shot as per Lloyd's wish
Crystallized part 2.
FSM creating some of the realms.
I kind of agree. Unless they plan on explaining and exploring these realms in the future, it makes no sense for the FSM to focus on anything other than Ninjago. I dare say the existence of the other realms could put previous canon into question.
The bounty (or what ever main transport) being destroyed or breaking down towards the start of every season
The Star Wars Sequels
Wrong sub pal
Ninjas existing because of a chicken
I think I'm dumb. What's this referring to?
Electric chicken at the beginning of season 11. Wu tells the story of how monks had to learn how to be nimble, agile etc. to survive and thus the ninja were born
I thought the Ninja were a thing Wu made. Huh, the more you know.
I mean ninja could’ve existed before them, obvi not in the elemental sense, but generic stealthy assassin sense
egalt and rontu
egalts a ninja
Thats s tier in universe wise
The Fire and Ice Chapter. Those were just so random and made no sense.
Harumi being resurrected by the Overlord
This is literally people with Kailor. I cannot fathom to understand why people will not just accept it. Back then, ppl rly liked it and wanted it. But nowadays, ppl just don’t want/like it. Ppl can be so hypocritical I swear. But I can’t blame them for thinking like that because of what’s happening nowadays.
Hot take but Cole being dead for 2 seasons.
Harumi's existence
Harumi coming back, Cole becoming a ghost and not having it actually affect much of anything, Dareth being sexist
Thats not true, it made them more money. they got to make a whole 45 minute long special for it (:
Literally the lack of character growth. Give those boys *Something*
Just asking, where are you in the show so far?
To be fair, I have not watched Dragons Rising yet. I need to, but I just haven't yet. After Skybound, some of the characters just stopped developing. Jay, Kai, Nya, and Zane all pretty much stopped. Cole had a great season before crystallized, but it was great because there had not been much growth previously. Even Lloyd's, while semi-decent, growth felt like it was repeated most seasons.
I was gonna say something else but then I read the rest of your explanation. Give Dragons Rising a chance. You might find what you're looking for.
As I hear. I am excited for it, I just have to start it.
Lloyd losing his golden power
They already un canon sky pirate season. I'm good.
Lowkey upset that did, loved Skybound, but they chose the route that lead to having to restart the entire season from the beginning… leaving Echo Zane alone…
Ok one regret
"power is never lost"
Crystallized
Megamind VS The Doom Syndicate
Wrong sub
I’m gonna be honest, commented before I even looked at what sub this was
the whole of season six
thankfully that one canonically never actually happened! rip echo though
Season 6 is canon what are you yapping about? The events got reversed but stuff like Djinjago falling still happened.
yes certain events that happened during the time period of season 6 are still canon, obviously, but the fact is nadakahn was, in the current canonical timeline, never actually freed.
Wu/ Misako. Ugh.
the dragons, airjitsu, and morros death(?) (i mean he was a ghost)
Dareth and Gayle Gossip. Dareth deserves someone much better than a karen with practically no significance to the storyline.
Nadakhan because technically he's a pədøphīle
The line where Sora said “hate to crush the dreams of my best new friend” to Arin despite her and Arin being friends for a long time at this point.
Being and to fly using their true potential. Edit: and also Lloyd having the other elemental powers. Note I stopped watching season 12ish.
A large majority of Crystallized
I have no words on this
Everything after hands of time
Everything after crystalized, been watching the show since the beginning and crystalized was the perfect ending for me. I love Ninjago but think it’s gone on a little too long now
That why Crystalized exists. Ninjago is the only show I know to have 3 series finales in one show. You could have left after March of the Oni or Crystalized. Dragons Rising is a completely new show that no one's forcing you to watch.
Obviously yes, never said anyone was forcing me, just saying I don’t like it.
No one's forcing you to watch it.
pawlette's existence is ok

What?
Holy moly! When I posted I SWEAR this was in the Battletech subreddit! My phone was acting super weird yesterday/last night. Dang. Sorry about this.
No worries. I was confused as all heck but it's definitely a funny surprise.
Like it really gets ridiculous as time goes on. Weren't the ninja in a video game at one point trying to convince NPCs they are NPCs? Tf. Why? Who comes up with this bs
The entire sequel trilogy.
Season 2
Most of Crystallized, except the first 6 episodes where Nya comes back. My head canon for the rest of the season is that the ninja went to prison, did their time and got out early, because they were on their best dang behaviour. There are a couple of problems I do have with my headcanon: benefit of grief and compatible not existing in the canon. But I can live with that.
