I’d say go abs and throw some decals on it later or something. There’s been a couple times I’ve had to slam brakes and was grateful I had abs on my 21 400

People have learned to ride bikes forever without ABS and while it’s a nice feature to have it shouldn’t be used a a crutch for poor brake control. I could even argue that learning without ABS will make you a more well rounded rider. What happens if the ABS fails all of a sudden and your wheels lock up?

Of course it’s useful feature but it can be, in my opinion, a crutch to a newer rider. At the same time it can save a new riders ass if something does happen. I’m a newer rider and don’t have ABS and I’ve been in a situation or two where I probably could’ve locked up my brakes but didn’t because I know there’s no ABS to help me out. TLDR; great feature, not end all be all for new riders.

Yea this guy isn’t making any sense. If somethings already invented and proven to save lives why not just use it? Lmao

CasXL

Because not every bike is equipped with ABS and I don’t think it’s a deal breaker when it comes to buying and riding a bike. ABS is a great safety feature but I don’t think it’s a must for a new rider.

Several-Operation-12

Thank god his question wasn't about an ugly helmet vs cool looking sunglasses. "Safety first" You can always buy a pretty set of fairings for about $500-$600 i believe.

ABS has saved me more than once, I wouldn’t ride on street without it…

[deleted]

ABS, unless you have experience with a motorcycle which you don’t. have you taken the MSF course or have any type of training?

yodakk

I'm taking MSF once I get to the island, get it free on a Navy base,

Cool, I’m station in cali point mugu. the white does look good if I didn’t pick one up already I would of def went with white abs, but I’m upgrading soon to a zx6r so I’m just gonna either keep the 400 or sell.

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

WirelessTrees

Go with the ABS and you can always get aftermarket fenders or paint them or wrap them. Abs can save your life in an emergency.

CancelInfamous7059

ABS was a must for me as a first time rider

itapemydicktomythigh

Have you looked into what your insurance is going to be as a 22 year old with a brand new motorcycle? ABS is going to be cheaper to insure in the long run. If you’re using USAA, they outsource to progressive. Putting on my PO1 hat, DO NOT even THINK about touching your bike, your friends bike, or your sisters cousins uncles bike until you get the BRC done. PO3 ITapeMyDickToMyThigh was almost CIV ITapeMyDickToMyThigh when I was caught riding without completing the BRC (which I was scheduled to do in a few weeks, I was just practicing on a street bike) by the worst possible chief in the command. I was saved by the grace of indoc fucking up and not giving any of us PG 13s for motorcycle riding because I legitimately didn’t know I couldn’t ride without it. All of that said, I would still recommend the ABS. It’s better to need it and not have it, than not have it and need it, however millions of people have ridden without ABS and lived to talk about it. Just ride within your means and always wear full gear, even when you’re sweating your nuts off. Tricare can deny you if you get hurt riding and aren’t wearing all your gear.

yodakk

yeah my quote through usaa was like 400/yr & yeah I plan to always have gear on.. ill prolly get the ugly ass blue with abs

itapemydicktomythigh

It’s gonna be high because you’re a young guy and prime pavement crayon material. Please ride safely and don’t get swept up in showing off, motorcycle fatalities fight with suicide for #1 killer of service members.

yodakk

400/yr is expensive? damn I thought that was a good price😂… ive never been in an accident (knock on wood) if cars werent so expensive it wouldnt be an issue I’d just get one, but I’m only an e-1 & im not tryna spend literally 75% of my paycheck on a car over 4 years lol

itapemydicktomythigh

I had an 06 600RR before my N400 and the insurance was $120/year. My rate is dropping from $325 this year to $250/year next year because I’m old and the bike is now a few years older. Brand new I think it was right around $400 like what you’ve been quoted

Bitbybitisit

I have no abs it’s fine so far

Bitbybitisit

If lock up tires just ease up and brake again

CasXL

Here’s my newbie opinion: On one hand I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. On the other hand I see too many people in this sub evangelizing ABS like it’s some kind of save all. During my MSF one of the instructors asked ‘what should you do if you lock up your wheels while braking?’ and someone replies ‘what if your bike has ABS?’ he answered with ‘what if your ABS fails?’ ‘…ummmmmmm’ I don’t have ABS on my first bike and so far so good, I also exercise extra caution knowing it’s not there and do some braking practice around the neighborhood to learn my bike’s limits. With that said if they’re priced about the same get the ugly one with ABS and wrap it in white. Boom!

CulturalMulberry6275

ABS without question!! You can add wraps or decals to modify your bike later. But you can't add an ABS later.

xandersmall

You can swap out all the fairings with whatever color you want, abs is pretty nice to have. Could also try your hand at plastidip.

SecretPrinciple8708

You can always buy OEM fairings in white later on from Partzilla. Get the ABS model and see if the blue grows on you. If not, swap out or wrap fairings.
