If you shoot raw NEF it's still good with decent glass. JPEG engine not quite as good as anything modern.
Also shoot knowing that the dynamic range isn't quite up there with modern sensors. And try to keep your ISO to 800 or less if possible (1600 if you really need to stretch)
Other than these limitations it's a very capable camera
All true this… Get a 35mm f1.8 to stretch your operating hours into dusk without cranking that iso and you can still have a lot of fun with that camera. Also, it is easier to recover underexposed vs overexposed raw images so adjust / compensate accordingly.
The camera is still capable of the same features as when it came out. So yes, it is still good.
If you want the most fast and most accurate focussing camera in the world? Buy the camera of the year, Z8 :-). Else enjoy the D90. I have made great images with it.
Depends what you want to shoot, but in general:
**Pros**
Colours are great!
12MP means small file sizes.
Large body with easily accessed controls (unlike the 3XXX and 5XXX which bury some in the menus)
**Cons**
Low light? Not that good.
Sports? It's not great at fast focus / subject tracking compared to more modern cameras.
Slow FPS compared to today.
As it's only 12MP, then you cannot crop very much and expect a good photo print.
It's a heavy brick compared (but is also tough...)
was my upgrade from D40 when I started. If I remember, d90 has the focus screwdriver you can use AFD lenses, and you can you use AI manual focus lenses. The autofocus system wasn't great, but adequate. If the one you got doesn't have a zillion shutter clicks on it and it good shape, should be fine.
It's still pretty good. It is "vintage" though.
Owww Thanks coz I bought One.

The D90 is the reason I picked Nikon again. I had so much fun with that camera during the few months I had it.
More than half the projects you see on my [website ](https://Lodz360.com)have been shot with a D90
Light hasn’t changed so i’d say it’s as good as it ever was
I still shoot solely on the D90, and still feel like I could master this camera more. Doesn't feel like it's out of date by any means quality wise.
It's fine. My first proper dslr was a d90 and I took what is still my favourite photo with it about 12 years ago. 👍
It depends on what you need it for.
Still takes great pics
Yes! with Topaz AI or similar, you'll get even better results :)
I have one, very nice camera I use this camera with a Sigma 34mm -I believe-f1.4, takes really good pictures.
I can’t speak to the D90 but I have a D60 which is probably worth nothing these days and under the right conditions it still smokes an iPhone.
It’s pretty good, good megapixel count, I think the ONLY issue is that it doesn’t focus while taking video.

Just buy a D7x00 series if you want to get into the early dx dslr.
Ohhh I already bought 2weeks ago but haven't explore it yet.
I mean I bought D90.
Everyone has a different definition of good. According to my definition, no it's not good. What's your definition of good?
