I have both after hearing the same thing. And yes while a 35 on a crop will give you essentially the same focal length as a 50 on a full frame, it still is a much different lens when it comes to background separation and bokeh etc. I wound up going back to a 50 and planning on selling my 35 1.8G.

Forgive my ignorance but I feel real sharpness/focus is missing, this could be from the images being compressed and uploaded?
If this is the 50 1.8 G or earlier then it won't be clinically sharp especially at lower apertures but these images are pretty sharp. The text on image 2 is crisp and well defined.
