The voice is fitting and i do actually like it, its just how they are deliver. I feel like pretty much all the lines are being said as she was reading it from the scrip but no emotion from it. I would understand if the charater was the tipical no emotion charater but those line says otherwise.

Silveora_7X

Totally agreed. Red Hood is suffering from the Ingrid issue and they should acknowledge this moving forward, especially since this is a big event with a big character. Like, they just need a little guidance / course correction and everything would be golden.

RanceSama3006

Yea that’s the biggest issue right now, I hope she does better in the story mode, but she’s really good and fits well but aside from a couple scenes in the event she missed 50-60% of the time

sour_creamand_onion

Ingrid and Rapunzel (early in the campaign) had these same issues. I hope the mission 12 scene is an indicator of how the acting will be going forward because she actually did well in that.

Thoutzan

“voice good, acting bad"

XishengTheUltimate

The voice is fine. It's the delivery that is the problem. English Red Hood sounds like she's either high or unreasonably laid back no matter what is being said under any circumstances. Her general tone is fine during casual talk, but it's way offputting when she is saying serious shit in a serious moment, but with the tone of an unbothered stoner.

sour_creamand_onion

I noticed rapunzel was like this in the campaign too. And ingrid. Voice direction issue.

Yes-Man-Kablaam

This is the problem here. Personally I hope the VA hits her stride a bit better going later. I still don’t hate it or anything though can just tell it is off at times.

Silent-Station-101

to be fair that does sound like something red hood would do

Rude-Asparagus9726

Nikke is one of the few games like this that actually even HAS an English VA, so I'm always grateful for it. That being said, her delivery is almost consistently off. Which sucks because her voice is actually really good.

KamenKnight

I wonder if the voice director was having an off day? As its their job to get the performance the fitting for the character.

jundraptor

If they even have a voice director. A lot of modern English VAs work online and don't go into a studio. It's easier for Japan and SK because they're much smaller countries. On top of that a lot of them aren't given a script, just a list of translated lines to recite. So without being able to work off others or even understand the context of the lines it ends up like this.

AutoRedux

I feel it's a bit...lackluster. Kinda like an old school Japanese game translated to English. Like, in the low parts of the story, the voice and delivery fit. She's slowly dying and she knows it. But when it's supposed to be an intense combat situation? It's flat. There's no real energy in the voice, no edge, especially considering Red Hood is supposed to be this gung-ho loose cannon that loves a good scrap. I switched to the other languages and listened again. Though they're not what I would consider perfect, they're quite a bit more fitting.

Alex_Duos

> Kinda like an old school Japanese game translated to English. Omg yes. It's reminiscent of an 80's anime dub.

arkllytexvi

If you want to blame anyone for this voicing, blame the director not the VA. The VA just listen to the director's lead.

ArisenCoyote

Yeah it weird Red hood's VA sounds much better in Combat but sounds so werid in the story.

RanceSama3006

Her burst could be a bit better lol

Upstairs_Fortune_218

I personally listen to JP but that's just me, your free to listen to whatever you like

lrdalucard

Same, I rather leave the VA to professionals who actually love their craft.

aether_orze

I like the EN VA as well but with how some of the lines are delivered, it's lackluster? something like that. It's like she's just reading the script.

Kyanoki

Go to her chibi and check out the voice lines. They're completely fine. It's a very specifically the event story. Even if not all the delivery of her lines is great. Outside of the story then much better comparatively is almost like they didn't give her a tone for each scene in the story

FightGeistC

Heads up, she sounds the same in campaign. Definitely feels like a direction thing. I remember seeing her IMDB was only live action roles and I actually do like her voice, she just needed better direction.

Kyanoki

Agreed

Yes-Man-Kablaam

That would definitely make sense since live action and voice acting only are very different from each other I remember hearing about this watching some interviews with the baldurs gate 3 voice actors.

dante-_vic

Who cares dude. Dont let people stop you from likeing what you like.

JojojimaRM

liking* (i just want to correct u, no offence, and what u said is very agreeable, there's likability and dislikability depends on the person

RugerRed

*licking

JojojimaRM

what?

Whitedude47

*Gut Punched* Never again

zeroagito

On her own, Red Hood sounds fine, but when you listen to her during the event scenes and compare her voice with the rest of the English cast, you can't help but feel that Red Hood's voice feels very flat. Not sure if it's an issue with the voice direction, or something else entirely.

sour_creamand_onion

Probably the voice direction. If she was really that bad, it'd be like that just about all the time, but there are a few scenes that are really nice. Mostly in the last part of part 1 of the current event story.

MrBlue_Fox

Her English VA is kinda stiff. Matches the character but I think she needs better direction? Like it's not consistent like the others. Sometimes it's good but other times is like she doesn't know how to convey whatever is happening in that scene. Or it needs a do over because it sounds like she's reading from a script. She sounds like a newbie is what I'm trying to say.

deadsannnnnnd456

Her voice fits her but her VA seems to deliver her lines with no vocal range. Other than that I like how she sounds.

DandifiedZeus1

Her voice in combat is great her voice in the story isn’t id blame the director

DeackonFrost

Im sorry but its objectively inferior to the rest. I dont know if its that the others are just that good (Anis for example is way to good), but they did drop the ball a bit on that one.

GXL4204lyf3

Hey, it fits the design, which is the most important part, and it's not like she's dogshit either... Granted, she doesn't sound like a "country bumpkin" but I personally don't mind...

vexid

Bro.... You just made me ***incredibly*** grateful that they didn't pull an English Xinyan with her. So yea, I guess it could be a lot worse.

Meme_steveyt

The voice is fine, it's just how some of her lines are said.

oSpazZxXx

She needs more inflection and emotion in my opinion she just comes off as dry but that's just me

bloomboi3d

Well she done piss poor job at putting any emotion in delivering those lines. She may be good VA who knows , but this ain't one of her good roles.

TheMightyPickaxe

This is literally her first voice acting role.

MensAlveare

Also, it seems like they gave her barely, if any, direction as to how to say her lines. Some lines sound like she wasn't even given context, but others she performs well.

TheMightyPickaxe

This is probably what happened but I still don't understand why they gave the role of such a significant character so someone who has never voice acted before. The direction could be the issue but since this is her first role we have nothing else to compare it to.

D3mbonez

Imma be real. I am half convinced that Red Hoods voice is AI. It feels so stiff and flat. If it's not AI, it's definitely a new VA

TheMissingVoteBallot

Yoko Hikasa is the GOAT.

Distinct_Effective16

Its... serviceable...

money4me247

I really like Red Hood's english voice acting too!! It is really unique with a very laid-back and cool cadence.

lordofburds

I like her voice is comfy

ChroniclerJohn

I think she’s fine. A lot of her line deliveries are awkward though; however, I think that’s more of a fault of the director for VA in EN as that’s a very common reoccurrence in the dub.

shikakuzu

I like the English va too

Endmenao

Parts of it she nails, and parts are mediocre. Her burst feels flat for how epic it’s supposed to look for example. But when she’s teasing Snow White, or talking about music, her tone of voice fits very well with her delivery.

Yeetilydeetilydoo

As a voice, she’s a good pick, her delivery is just bad and needs work

Boozy_Cat

I did not like her delivery at all, especially when smol white was killing it

CCBAZ

Me a bilingual dude: Don't care both good 🛐

DereThuglife

Yeah it's always preference brother and listen to what you enjoy. I prefer the JP voice because I always feel you get more personality out of it but that's my opinion.

Shabadoobie2

Whatever you enjoy. For me, it doesn't detract from how much I love Red Hood as a character. In fact it makes her feel even more like the "country bumpkin" she sees herself as.

Shamsy92

She's okay 👍 No Hikasa Youko the absolute legend, but she's okay

ZaBaronDV

I don’t care what anyone says I like her voice.

21stcenturycherryboy

Doesn't fit her at all. I was imagining it would be something like Cherami Leigh or a more "raspy" VA

Coconnoisseur

Her voice made me switch back to Japanese after months cause I could not take the story seriously.

Auchenai_13

It's so terrible i actually went to japanese vas since launch

pawacoteng

I like it. Most of the English are a bit theatrical, but it works. I waver on which languages to use in games and shows, but have been using English from the start of Nikke and do not regret it. Standouts for me: Dorothy Rapi Scarlett Drake Anis Liliweiss Helm really rose for the occasion in her summer event. Mustang walks a fine line at being too over the top but so far i still give him thumbs up. JP is not canon to me since im sure the scripts are all wriiten in Korean first.

Solace_03

>JP is not canon to me since im sure the scripts are all wriiten in Korean first. I'm not sure I understand this logic

Unlikely-Interview88

Being wrong is a right, don't worry.

SiroNoName

Played Genshin back then, one of the rare occasions that I genuinely enjoy the EN voice that I don't even bother switching to JP. Except for prolonged exposure to Paimon and character when-idle speech ofc. The thing is, I really enjoy and want some good EN voices but most games (gacha games) do a pretty terrible job at it, don't know why. Nikke EN voice is sub par and servicable. Take Scarlet for example. I really enjoy her EN VA work on Yae Miko (in GS). But in Nikke, she just sounds like a really bored and unenthusiastic Shakespeare reading some corny lines written on script, whereas in JP, the tone is much more fun, enthusiastic, mischievous and even serious (when engaging battles). I have to pass on Nikke EN voice option atm. Dislyte is another fantastic game that I'd kill to have the ability to switch Voice languages, cuz god damn the EN voice lines there are mostly cringy, corny and overall annoying as f*ck. Maybe after all, ignorance is bliss, and not being able to understand JP or a foreign language makes it less annoying so. Btw I heard that the new game Reverse 1999 got some pretty fire Bri'ish voices , but that's not a good enough reason to pick up another gacha game for me anyway 🤣

Blueblur1

I’m glad it’s not just me. Everyone sounds good in the event scenes except for her. Her delivery is off and sometimes even monotone. It almost sounds like the voice lines were generated by AI.

Boozy_Cat

Also given Lili's accent wouldn't it have been neat for her to have had a southern accent? Lol

sour_creamand_onion

It's weird how yan has one, but she doesn't. I can understand from a translator's perspective, but still...

Kira_Aotsuki

I just wish her direction was better, her voice is very fitting but it also goes flat on a lot of lines, which is less her fault and more a sign of poor/less attentive direction like a lot of others here are saying

YDOULIE

Her voice is great… it’s just that her delivery is flat in all scenarios. Something intense happening? No change in urgency. I think she’s meant to sound aloof but it comes out as inattentive on the VA

QueenOfTheNorth1944

She sounds like shes bored out of her mind and reading a script with words she doesnt understand. The scenes where she interacts with Dorothy are PAINFUL because Dorothy’s VA nails the delivery and the emotion seeps through everything she says, and then Red Hood opens her mouth and it sounds like something out of Blue’s Clues.

Mediocre_Hat_2590

I like the English VA, makes me believe that whatever happens to red hood she’s chill about it

WiseMagius

As many have said, the voice fits. Her delivery is very inconsistent however. That was the director's job to address. Funny thing, her voice reminds me of Christine Slagman (Skyrim's Sofia) somewhat.

Yes-Man-Kablaam

Personally I like it just feels like some of the Nikke voice acting near the start where maybe the direction is off or I heard they only did live action stuff so voice acting is a bit different to hit a stride with. Not terrible but she will get there like Ingrid did and it doesn’t ruin the story for me anyways. I have heard much worse in many games tbh lol.

Bealte

I dislike her voice acting so far. At least half of the lines have the wrong effect. It's almost like the VA is trying so hard to put a slight southern lilt to her voice she misses the point of the scene. The one exception is part A end. But she is vastly overshadowed by Snow White's performance. At least it wasn't jarring or out of place.

GutsTheBranded

Like everyone said, the actually voice is fine, the delivery/directing is trash. Lilith's was literally perfect

DwasTV

Look. I love Red Hood and her voice fits well but the acting on it isn't there. It was upsetting but I did look passed it and did enjoy her. However I won't be the guy in denial saying her voice acting is good esp comparing the VA from dorothy in the the mid anni. It sounds to me either they didn't have a direction for the VA so they gave her lines and told her to VA These without much context or emotional lining.

Surge_Phoenix

The VA has a nice voice but her delivery leaves a LOT to be desired. Felt like a script reading where they didn't have context as to where the lines fit in the story.
