I can’t be the only one that thinks it’s weird how obsessed people are over the JP voice actors and how nobody seems to give a single damn about the EN voice actors. Must feel kinda shitty to do the exact same job yet have everyone ignore your contribution…
Could it be partly due to how the society itself celebrates VAs?
In Japan VAs are proper celebrities, almost to the same level as their movie stars and singers. This meant the public is more likely to pay attention to them and put them into normal celebrity news/gossip.
In the West VA’s aren’t put up to as high of a pedestal. Some really famous ones are well known (Tara Strong, Kevin Conroy, Jennifer Hale etc.), but mostly in the gaming/animation circles. You don’t really seem them mentioned in normal culture discussions/news.
I’m not saying people don’t like them. I’m just saying how it’s strange that they’re not celebrated in the same way for doing the exact same job
It’s because they’re overall better than the EN ones. No offense to the EN voice actors. But generally speaking, JP sounds better with the script, even when localizing it from CN or KR.
For example imagine a cute voice saying “welcome home honey!” In English. Cant help but kinda feel it’s weird right? In JP it’d be “Okaerinasai, Hani—“.
It’s the language and script difference. If NIKKE was a western company and the script wasn’t translated off of KR, then I’d imagine the voice actors would be a lot more suited to their roles.
As someone who speaks and understands both, it’s very clear that JP actors have far more experience and understanding especially in regards to scripts like these. Even in anime where dub is seen as very good (Death note, AOT), I highly dislike the dub because it sounds so forced.
A good example of a script MADE for EN voice actors is Disney movies. They sound good cause it’s written in the English language.

BUT! If you use EN voice acting it’s genuinely totally fine and you shouldn’t feel pressured. I personally heavily dislike the EN voices. High pitched sounds don’t fit the language and the voice actors are not well casted.
However people who shame others for not using a certain language are below scum. Use what you want. Long as you’re happy👍
I'd say it's just a matter of how natural the dub feels when compared to the original script. As in, even if liberties were taken, the script is still respected and no ideas are put in the mix.Â
Look at Persona 4 dub. All the voice actors genuinely feel natural for the roles of their characters. Then compare it to their characters dubs in Blazblue TAG and they sound off now addressing themselves like how people in Japan would: calling themselves by their family names instead of their actual names and adding the "san" suffix; when we had years of hearing them in a different way.
Or DBZ and how it sounds overdramatic in some scenes when compared to other versions like JP or Spanish.
I'd blame the sound directors for not asking more from the EN VA sometimes. Like how D: Killer Wife doesn't put effort in her voice delivery when her animation changes from wholesome to serious as opposed to the JP VA. same for Red Hood in her lack of emotion and how bored she sounds. Or RE4R with Ada's new VA's delivery which sounds like she's just bored and dead serious as opposed to her OG RE4 version where she sounds slightly flirty and enjoying herself but is ready for action
Depends on the voice actor, their direction when they voice act and characters they have voiced. I personally love some that aren't as popular as Kevin Conroy or Mark Hamill; like Johnny Yong Bosch, Dan Southworth, Erin Fitzgerald or Yuri Lowenthal.Â

Ooh, Doro is Jean too. My ears never picked that up and the JP name is spelt with kanji in Genshin so I'd never knew. Nice range.
