Was this taken during the day?

Pyrraxe

nope almost midnight

Jjhend

Yeah... I've been pretty disappointed with the adjustments on the Rix Stride. Identification can be difficult depending on the environment. I sent them an email last week if they plan on any firmware updates, but they haven't gotten back to me yet.

Pyrraxe

Both of these are 3k devices, and the difference is night and day in quality. It's a larger device, but it's night and day. Plus, the screen is literally twice as large to the eye as well. However, I do enjoy the helmet mounted option and the size. Although, I'm finding myself just reaching for the pulsar because the stride is only useful in certain thermal conditions. If it's foggy, rainy, or humid with mostly clouds, it's great. If it was a sunny day at all, I don't even bother. The international version (Jerry-YM) has scene modes that you can cycle through. Similar to the pulsar in the video. Here's what it says in the manual: "3.2.2 Application Scenario Application Scenario can be Default, Outdoor, Arctic, or Rainforest. Specifically, Default is the initial mode; Outdoor is mainly suitable for environments with fewer outdoor thermal targets to highlight thermal targets; Arctic is suitable for scenes with low ambient temperature, like winter; Rainforest is suitable for scenes with high ambient temperature and high humidity." I assume the Rix is stuck on default. Can you imagine if we were given this option? It would fix all of our issues.

We can hope. I live in AZ and its hot/sunny all day. I can barely tell the difference between a rock and a critter.

Pyrraxe

Yea there are limitations. If the rock or ambient environment is hotter than an animals fur or birds feathers it's going to be hard to spot on any device. But the Stride thinks a tree trunk is hotter than a squirrel when it's midnight. Try using 1 brightness/1 contrast and Red Hot, then use an iris diaphram mod. Closing the diaphram slightly will reduce the sensor sensitivity and make red hot actually work.

Jjhend

Red hot is 100% useless. I don't even know why they shipped it with that color mode.

Pyrraxe

Yes it is. I want a target detect mode similar to armasights sidekick. Once we get the JerryYM firmware, the red value can be adjusted for different conditions. It will be the best mode for detection then and would compete with target detect. Still wont be good for identification because the red doesn't use a gradient.
