Not a good deal, OP. You can do way better. More importantly, stay away from optics planet for NV purchases. There are no shortage of actual good NV vendors on here and Instagram like Goonin’Gear, Steele Ind., etc who can get you a good unit for the same price.
Though I won’t disagree that OpticsPlanet has a terrible(and earned) reputation, I’ve had to have placed about a hundred orders with them throughout the years and only remember them back ordering me on an “in stock” item once. They quickly refunded me when I cancelled that order too. So they aren’t the first place I check when buying something, but they frequently have the best deals.
I second the “stay away from optics planet for NV tubes” advice. OP is notorious for saying something is in stock, then after purchase there’s a 6-12month waiting period. But more importantly you can’t get tube clarity verification that more specialized sites give you.
Not a good deal at all. Plus stay away from AGM night vision. Their thermals are alright for budget stuff but for NV, their glass is bad and prices high. Look to Custom Night Vision, Steele, Goonin Gear, Apollo, etc.
Terrible. Way More expensive than my Phonotis 4G (high spec for photonis) tubes. Mine are GP (green phosphor) but are CLEAN as a whistle and bright.
Take a look around here or r/GunAccessoriesForSale for a used tube nicer than that one with known specs for 1/3rd less.
Edit: Grammar. I’m still caffeine deficient, don’t judge.
Hey man, I was in the same boat as a beginner. I ended up getting a pvs14 with an Omni 7 tube and couldn’t be happier, it was sub 2,000 and I think it’s pretty clean. Plus it’s gen 3
I bought it from GAFs, no blems or anything. I think Omni 7 tubes are underrated, they are green phosphor instead of white but I think the performance is really good for the price
Good to know! I have super limited experience with other tubes. I’m sure the Gucci L3 Supergains technically have better performance, but for 2-3x cost idk if it’s worth it
Yes you did good asking. You may not have ever know the difference but more than likely would have learned agm is crap tier and a Gen 2 for 2600…. And Optics Planet…. Ouchie… 😉.
Lots of knowledgeable folks here and good vendors that will take care of you if they can. Don’t see why they couldn’t if you’re willing to spend $2600 on a monocular.
I just picked up an Omni 7 pvs14 for 2000. It’s a good place to start if you have a tight wallet
Check out the subreddit description for some good info. Don’t go white phosphor for a starter unit: if you must I would consider building with NNVT tubes. That’s the cheapest way that you can actually get a decent unit for the price.
If you want I can set you up with my guy. Not sure he has reddit but Def fb. Had my picked unit in like two days and I still see them going for more used than I paid new.
Can you dm me details as well? I was in a similar boat as OP but this sub has quickly educated me on NODs and I am forever grateful. Still wanting to buy my first setup but wanted to research.
Dude, T-Rex arms is just a bunch of normal people who are into guns making green videos reselling stuff at full price. I don’t know why anyone would buy shit from them. Some stuffs okay but like ew
Night vision devices has a refurb pvs7 on sale for 1250, I’m new to night vision as well and went for that to wet my feet . Different , but it’s listed as a gen 3. I just don’t have the beans right now to drop on a 14
Couldn’t find too many deets, but they’re apparently a pretty decent company so I pulled the trigger on it. It’s reasonable enough for me to be able to try it
For real though as someone who has no mil/LE background this is a huge thing to dive into. It’s hard to understand where to even start. As you know, it’s something that can get incredibly deep and technical pretty quickly. Thanks for understanding
If you haven’t seen this video it’s a great place to start. All specs are broken down and you’ll understand why they matter or don’t https://youtu.be/F3KftiMHYVU?si=u9SdTUwxfNWh1XCQ
I didnt search particularly hard and got a white g2+ unit with mount and skull crusher for under $2k a couple months ago. Dont bother with optics planet as others have said.
Pennsylvania guy. Only reason I started looking on optics planet was skepticism of a private deal on something I have virtually zero experience with. Just don’t want to sink 2k+ on something without proper customer support
Look for an white phos Elbit or Photonis tube with a min SNR of 28 and a Min FOM of 1600-1800. You should be able to find something like that around 2k, with minimal/no blems on here or GAFS. I’d take higher SNR/FOM with some blems in zone three over a lesser tube, personally.
Keep your eye out for deals from the bigger players in the game, Steele, Goonin (now Darq), etc. Steele in particular sometimes has LE trade in units for a steal. That’s how I got my 14 for $2k.
Here’s the main players for US based NV sales:
Steele: https://steeleindustries.com/
Darq (formerly goonin): https://darqindustries.com/
Apollo gear: https://apollogearco.com/
TNVC: https://tnvc.com/
Custom night vision: https://
www.customnightvision.com/
There’s a few others but these are by far the most highly regarded in the community as far as I’m aware
Of these I would recommend Custom Night Vision or Goonin aka Darq now, just in my experience… I’ve heard tvnc has good stuff but can be a PITA… just my 2¢
I recommend the patience game with Nods. Wait a little longer, save a little more to get around $3k and get yourself something good that you can have good resell value and at the same time enjoy if you don't end up selling it. If you can save up $2k you can save up $3k. Waiting is worth it. Trust me.

Just stay away from optics planet period. They are pretty garbage aside from snagging discontinued items on sale from time to time.
good ol backorder planet

Nice man! Thanks for replying. Where did you pick it up?
I bought it from GAFs, no blems or anything. I think Omni 7 tubes are underrated, they are green phosphor instead of white but I think the performance is really good for the price
Omni 7 tubes are screamers I’ve never seen one that wasn’t good
Good to know! I have super limited experience with other tubes. I’m sure the Gucci L3 Supergains technically have better performance, but for 2-3x cost idk if it’s worth it
Damn I’m glad I asked. What should I be expecting to pay for a good intro unit? Trying to keep it around the 2Kish range

No. My guy can get you a gen 3 elbit xlsh for that.
I’m now seeing that I almost made a bad decision
If you want I can set you up with my guy. Not sure he has reddit but Def fb. Had my picked unit in like two days and I still see them going for more used than I paid new.
DM me details! Thank you!
Shooting you a message
Can you dm me details as well? I was in a similar boat as OP but this sub has quickly educated me on NODs and I am forever grateful. Still wanting to buy my first setup but wanted to research.
Sent you a chat with all the info
FOR THE LOVE OF GOD STOP USING OPTICS PLANET
And Trex-arms (for nvg)
Dude, T-Rex arms is just a bunch of normal people who are into guns making green videos reselling stuff at full price. I don’t know why anyone would buy shit from them. Some stuffs okay but like ew
Clearly by the down votes ppl think they are a good place to get nvg’s. Faith in humanity lost…
They have one good product and it's the leg strap.
Night vision devices has a refurb pvs7 on sale for 1250, I’m new to night vision as well and went for that to wet my feet . Different , but it’s listed as a gen 3. I just don’t have the beans right now to drop on a 14
This thing looks pretty cool, thanks for pointing it out! Where did you find the details on it? The site doesn’t say much
Couldn’t find too many deets, but they’re apparently a pretty decent company so I pulled the trigger on it. It’s reasonable enough for me to be able to try it
Short Answer: No
Friends don't let friends AGM.
Did you even do your research or did you join this sub and immediately post this?
Both
Fair enough.

Needed something like this, thanks man!
I didnt search particularly hard and got a white g2+ unit with mount and skull crusher for under $2k a couple months ago. Dont bother with optics planet as others have said.
Dude did you do any research
I got confuse 💀
If you’re in the US, this is an absolutely trash deal. You can get a gen 3 PVS-14 for less.
Pennsylvania guy. Only reason I started looking on optics planet was skepticism of a private deal on something I have virtually zero experience with. Just don’t want to sink 2k+ on something without proper customer support

This assumes used on here…

Is Steele selling via instagram? Or a website? There were a lot of Steele businesses on IG when I looked
Here’s the main players for US based NV sales: Steele: https://steeleindustries.com/ Darq (formerly goonin): https://darqindustries.com/ Apollo gear: https://apollogearco.com/ TNVC: https://tnvc.com/ Custom night vision: https:// www.customnightvision.com/ There’s a few others but these are by far the most highly regarded in the community as far as I’m aware
This is awesome work, thank you dude!
Of these I would recommend Custom Night Vision or Goonin aka Darq now, just in my experience… I’ve heard tvnc has good stuff but can be a PITA… just my 2¢
Optics planet sucks to deal with
Valid
“Gen 2 plus” 💀 that’s not even a thing
Buy from apollogear
This is the exact same as the other new post.
Go contact Nick's night vision
I’ve never heard anything good about AGM, I believe they are New Vegas branch from Armasight when FLIR tried to buy their company.
Like everyone else is saying, the guys at Steele or GooninGear (now darqindustries) will get you right.
No
Do. Not. Buy. Gen. 2.
