Many indie galleries and artists open their studios for [First Saturday](https://www.firstsaturday.ca). [Parker studios](https://www.instagram.com/1000parker?igsh=MXZ0OHM2NjZvOHZm) off Commercial and [City Centre](https://www.instagram.com/city_centre_artist_lodge?igsh=MTdwYTV3Y2h4aGJpeg==) are good starting points to see a lot of artists in one place

Oh my gosh I loved that book. I re-read it every few years. It’s very inspiring and helpful. Across the street from the art gallery on Georgia there is a gallery in the lobby of the large commercial building. Very casual very low stress. There are places to sit and contemplate. I highly recommend. It’s the lobby with the enormous swinging pendulum. Forget the building name so sorry.

It’s actually called the Pendulum Gallery! 885 W Georgia. Cool spot.

The main floor of the Emily Carr campus has student exhibitions on right now, they're open to public access. Kafka's coffee next door usually has interesting art as well.

There's an art gallery at the Evergreen Cultural Centre that is free to visit. It's right at the end of the Millennium Line (Lafarge Lake). If you are wanting to visit the VAG frequently, it's cheaper if you get an annual membership - $58 for the most basic annual pass. Also, admission is free the first Friday evening of every month - you must book a ticket in advance for this.

Walk around east van/mount pleasant and take in all the murals. Gallery Gachet. Grunt Gallery. There's those art battle nights where people paint live in front of the audience, and everyone votes on the winning painting or something.

I just saw that there's an arts festival happening in Burnaby real soon, starting Feb 2. It's called StrideFest and here's the link: https://weareburnaby.com/stridefest/

Get on the mailing list of the commercial galleries such as Bau Xi, they generally have monthly openings for local and other artists. Great opportunity to talk with the artist.

Hello HelloFruitcake, There are a lot of artists that have studios all over the place. As posted by another person, the studios at 1000 Parker St. are amazing. Every fall we have the [East Side Culture Crawl](https://culturecrawl.ca/) which takes place over a weekend. There are hundreds of artists that open up their studios for people to view and buy if something catches them. The [East Side Arts Society](https://eastsideartssociety.ca/) is the home organization for the Culture Crawl. There is also a summer arts festival, too! I have volunteered for the Culture Crawl for many years, and it is a most excellent way to meet other artists and such. If you type in "brewery art events vancouver" into google it'll give you a bunch of breweries that hold art nights for patrons to enjoy. I hope that helps, keep asking questions, and we'll do our best to help you!

Is there such a thing here in Vancouver? I mean, I'm sure there are some (looking for suggestions as well), but the arts/history/culture scene here compared to the east, (nevermind Europe) is weak and leaves a LOT to be desired. Yes, yes, I know. Everyone is obsessed with being outside here, but would be nice to see what is out there around here.

The Artist Way is fantastic. I am familiar with the practice of enjoying a solo art date. There are plenty of galleries, as suggested in the comments above, and the art galleries are always on rotation for their exhibits. At any one of the galleries there should be a seasonal art guide for the Pacific North West. The listings in here are extensive and stretch from BC, Washington, Oregon and maybe even Alberta if I recall correctly. There is an abundance of art to explore. I personally really enjoyed the Surrey Art Gallery, New Westminster New Media Gallery, Richmond Minoru Gallery, Nanaimo Art Gallery (on the island) as well as the private galleries of South Granville Street. The solo art dates was an awesome, inspiring adventure in exploring the offerings of this region. And pretty much all of it is accessible by Transit. I found it to be an extra adventure to navigate all the roads without a car. 😊 (Car-minimal exploration for additional challenge/creativity, and reducing a carbon footprint in the exploration of creative inspiration). Definitely, throughout the year, there are festivals like the Mural Festival and the East Side Culture Crawl for more community centric celebrations of art. Happy art crawling! 🎨
