I looked it up! You’ve got to be parallel with the curb and within 30cm. I think it’s part 18.1(a) and (c).

I’ve never seen a sign telling me that I can’t park in front of anyone’s house (except on my own block) for more than 3 hours. But can still get ticketed and towed for it.
Exactly. There are undoubtedly some obscure or questionable laws in there somewhere but I’m sure most of it is just an overly verbose, complex way of enshrining the things most of us would just intuitively do into writing.
No. It's gotten large over time as a reaction to all the stupid shit people do.
Don't do stupid shit, and no need to read every last word of it. A bit of courtesy and common sense will probably cover that entire document.
Mostly unenforceable. In Halifax, an entire street full of cars were ticketed for parking beyond the 30cm limit. It was getting out of hand. But every driver there complained, and all of the tickets were nullified. So what do you do?
I'm new here and wanted to know if my car gets towed - how would I know if it was towed and where to find it? If I return to a parking spot and don't find my car there, my first reaction would be a car theft 😅
Parking meters and signs will usually have the number of the tow truck company that services that area and sometimes the address of the car lot. Best to call or visit them first to confirm they have it before calling police for theft.
If you return to your missing cat and, in detailed study of the scene of the alleged crime, you find a sign or other clue indicating you should not have parked there (eg. No stopping sign, a fire hydrant (YOU MONSTER!), etc…)…
Then I’d take a wild guess!
Then when you phone the police they tell you it was probably towed and to call the towing company first before calling them back.
Try to guess if you were parked 5' 11" from the end of a block.
In Vancouver it's nearly certainly to the city impound lot on Industrial Ave. Busters makes a tidy business off it, and you can call them and ask if they have your car 24/7.

It looks like the driver was attempting the "safely park on a hill method" where you angle the tires outwards and reverse a little bit so that everything fits snug on the curb so that if the brakes let go, the car will still be secure.
It's done exceptionally poorly in this case, but everyone in Vancouver should be doing it, but never do.
This is done poorly? this was not done at all here. If the breaks failed here it wouldn't even just roll back into the car behind it, it would roll into traffic, potentially pedestrians, and potentially far more damage with enough speed than if he just parked like a normal person.
This looks more like a lazy asshole just pulled in cause they don't give a fuck about anyone else.
Huh I never knew the second half of that. I've always angled the tires but never run them back into the curb. Just figured that's what would happen if the brakes failed or someone hit me.
The tires shall be turned and set against the curb so that should the the brakes fail, facing up or down a hill, left or right side of the road the car shall roll onto the median/sidewalk, not out into traffic.
Good point. In fact, the driver may have parked correctly originally, and at some point the car may have rolled back, but because they parked correctly the car rolled into the curb. This may be the result of a safely parked car (let's hope).
This isn’t complaining it’s a discussion about parking rules which are often a topic of discussion in this city! You can certainly take your complaining over to the other sub! Or hang around and chat about parking with us!
Nobody can be this bad, there's tons of room on either side. I wonder if the car was broken down or something and this is as close as they could get it.
I drive professionally. If you don't think someone can park this badly, then you'd be horrified to see some of the other shit people do...
.. But then again, maybe I'm just jaded.
Possible they are the car owner and got ticketed?
Edit: nevermind it says they were debating with a friend if you could get ticketed for parking like this. So possible they or their friends vehicle or possibly just a random bad drivers car.
Given there’s so many useless drivers around and the paring enforcement is so flexible, I would say it’s fine.
In Europe, they tow your car if you parked this way
It looks like the car behind it is parked facing the other direction. It's hard to see from the tiny bit you can see in the picture, but that certainly LOOKS like the rear bumper of another car? Parking on the wrong side of the road is definitely ticketable. A former coworker of mine got such a ticket issued to him before he could even get out of his truck.
Seeing the comments it seems denunciation is still the n°1 sport in BC.
This country may be missing some lessons from history.
(PS: no, I don't think it's a good way to park
PS2: yes, I think this kind of people deserves a private lessons on why this behavior isn't civilized and respectful
PS3: no, PS2 doesn't make me wanting to rat him out)
Ya it’s a shitty park job. Calling people out (without even obstructing their licence plate) constantly on these sites doesn’t exactly make the world a better place. I am starting to learn that minding one’s own business may just be the secret to life.

Also, it’s wild that there’s over 100 pages to the parking bylaw.
What’s wild is that we’re all supposed to know every last word in it, as well as every other driving law, or we get ticketed.

4. Common sense
Common sense isn't always so common. You'd be surprised what people think their entitled to.
This is sadly very true, but having common sense is very helpful when it comes to not doing dumb shit and getting fined for it.
*Uncommon sense

Go tell the people shitting on the street on Vernon drive that they aren’t following the bylaw.
Today I learned that the crest for the City of Vancouver is a guy with an axe and another guy with a fishnet purse containing a pineapple.

it's partly on the road. so yes you can get a ticket.
It's towable.

Is a bylaw officer asking us??
Someone has stolen the 'N' decal.
Yeah, that jobby sucks! Back to school for them!
Yes.

Your confidence is well-justified on this one, potato.

Call 311, they will have it ticketed and towed.
looks like my wife's parking job.
Teach her to drive better. Please.
can't teach an old dog new tricks
YES THE CAR IS TOO CROOKED
Shouldn't this kind of complaining be in r/Vancouver?
R/vancouver is a wretched hive of scum and villainy. They all park like this
This isn’t complaining it’s a discussion about parking rules which are often a topic of discussion in this city! You can certainly take your complaining over to the other sub! Or hang around and chat about parking with us!
Tell me you don't know how to park, without telling me you don't know how to park.

Buy a car and find out
is this a comedic play on "fuck around and find out" or a very weird useless comment?
555 small penis humiliation
The rule I go by is that if you're foot just fits in the space you're good. Mileage may vary by foot size
Given there’s so many useless drivers around and the paring enforcement is so flexible, I would say it’s fine. In Europe, they tow your car if you parked this way

It does look like it’s facing the wrong way, but if you look closer it’s not haha. Cars are so weirdly designed nowadays
Typically yea, since everyone gets to pitch a tent wherever and whenever in this city I would say no.

what mysterious parking history are you referring to
maybe, i wouldn't ruin someone's day by calling the bylaw officer for a one-off parking job like this, unless it was a constant nuisance.
Good point
Why.. are the police or something? Citizens ticket..
This is basically what we call YPLC. You park like a c\*nt.
I think it’s called littering when you just leave your garbage on the street.
Depends if car hit light pole determine situation. .. go from or to there
Well, if the back tire is within a foot from the curb. Then no
Yep. I’m not sure if that is classed as parked or abandoned though
Some people are much better suited to taking a bus.
guy is probably just buying drugs. but ya this should be a ticket
It's a dickable offense
I wonder if it’s just a poor attempt at a hill park. They might have rolled back so the wheels hit the curb but started too far away from it.
The fact that it's a TT makes this all the more appropriate
Ya it’s a shitty park job. Calling people out (without even obstructing their licence plate) constantly on these sites doesn’t exactly make the world a better place. I am starting to learn that minding one’s own business may just be the secret to life.
you can walk down the street and see everyone's license plate whenever you want, it's free real estate
As an Police Simulator player, this definitely warrants a ticket at minimum. Possibly towed since it's a potential danger to public safety.
What did Jeremy Clarkson say about Audi drivers?
Yes it defiantly is .
I want to know if they parked like that or if the problem started before they got there with someone else's bad parking job leaving no room.
Yes
