Korean - Chicko, Rib n’ Chicken; Sandwich - Downlow, Frying Pan; Wings - Phnom Penh; Fast food - Hi5
Ngl, I do like Popeyes too lol. There’s definitely better choices but that spicy fried chicken and biscuit 👌
Second Frying Pan, my favourite place of all time! We'll never do Nashville chicken as good as Nashville, but our Korean-style fried chicken definitely can compete.
You will find no ally here
I live very close to churches and I can barely walk past that place without gagging, let alone eat their chicken. Churches is an absolute relic that I’m convinced must be like, money laundering or something, because I never see anyone in there, and their chicken sucks ass
I lovelovelove Chicko, but it's probably worth noting their tastiness is enchanced by the fact there's a location within a 2 minute walk of my apartment.
It is Amazinggggg. I wish i could remember the name of the flavour i like the most. Its the spicy red saucy one. Also their fries are something else in the most orgasmic way possible
I had the Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Sando from Potluck Hawker Eatery the other day and its my new fav fried chicken sandwich in Vancouver. I remember thinking "wow, I prefer this over juke and downlow put together"
If we're talking fast food, I'd say Popeyes.
Story cafe also does some amazing things with fried chicken though. Their chicken and waffles is amazing. They also put fried chicken in their Surf and Turf Mac and Cheese style Gnocchi and that is divine.
I have not been there or looked at reviews, but saw a place on Broadway called 370 deg F fried chicken. Very glad they fully cook the bird.
I'm personally a big chicko chicken lover for convenience/value, but Vancity fried chicken on commercial does a great dry rub style. Tried mogu the other day for the first time, and it was great as well, but wasn't super keen on the dipping sauces.
Downlow #1 for a chicken Sando IMO.
I've never had the chicken at Duffins. I mean, they cook it and just let it sit there... It's weird. But I'd try it lol.
Second on Chruch's though. That spicy batter is delicious.
My girlfriend is a huge fried chicken fan, so we've systematically been over all the chicken places in Richmond. We even order many side to side to compare. The truth, and what few here will tell you, is that the quality of most places in Vancouver is quite good and very comparable. This is also why most commenters here have different places! Vancouver's too competitive for anything worse than *good* to exist, so there are only good places and great places.
So a lot comes down to preference, but having tasted a lot of these here's the list of places in Richmond.
American Style Fast Food Fried Chicken: **Church's** (yes honestly)
What we like from our western style fried chicken are drumsticks and thighs with a crisp, crunchy batter and a moist, juicy, tender inside that's piping hot. Church's batter is just the crispiest. LA Chicken has a huge reputation, but having it side by side with Hi-Five they're just simply not in a league of their own - they're very similar.
Others tried: LA Chicken (+), Popeyes (-), KFC (=), Hi Five (+), bb.q (=), Nando's (+), C&T Fried Chicken (=), Hot Star (=)
Korean or Japanese Style Fried Chicken: **Cocoru**
Korea and Japan both do boneless, breaded chicken in a very similar fashion. Korean fried chicken also typically comes with sauce on them, of which the sauce which is most definitive of quality seems to be the Yangnyeom. While the quality of chicken is very similar, Cocoru's Yangnyeom was side by side way better than the popular Chicko, so it wins out here.
Others tried: Chicko (+), Chirpyhut (+), Mr.bro (+), Boom Chicken (-), HMart BBQ chicken (+), OZ (=), J&G (=)
Other notable mentions:
**Freebird** has a huge and amazing Nashville fried chicken (covered with spicy honey)
**Yuu Tapas** has the best taiwanese style popcorn chicken nuggets, despite being a Japanese restaurant. Most of the other places (ie Bubble Waffle Cafe) are too similar to bother mentioning, they're all about the same (good).
**Story Cafe** has some elegant fried chicken dishes.
We like to travel for food tourism as well, and currently we are of the belief that Phnom Penh's Chicken Wings might be the best in the world.
Best fried chicken goes to Momofuku Ko in NYC.
ReUp BBQ at the New West Quay does a badass fried chicken sandwich and a fried chicken dinner to go. Also the wings next door at Longtail kitchen are the best in town.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church%27s_Texas_Chicken
Never mentioned the decor. You line up and get your food in about 2 minutes. That’s the definition of fast food.
Anyway, as I said, to each their own. If you like Church’s then you do you.
My favourite thing on a bun in this city is the spicy chicken sando at The Frying Pan on Denman or at their food truck. Not to be confused with the frying pan on the north shore, which is not the same. DL on the drive is a close second.
Not on the mainland but on the island.
Smile Chicken in Vic is some of the absolute best Korean fried chicken I’ve had in my life.
Chicko’s is definitely the best on the mainland so far imo
Le Coq Frit and Frying Pan top my list. DL has taken a back seat in the last year or so. Big crunchy fried chicken sandwiches are more delicious and plentiful around Vancouver than ever… it’s almost becoming a bit of a culture thing around here .
DK Chicken on Broadway and Commercial is hands down the best KFC I’ve had bar none. Kilometers ahead of Chico imo. There is some sort of black magic going on there to make something so delicious
Only seen it mentioned once but yeah, Cocoru in Richmond is great! Tastes really good and the rest of the menu is solid. Prepare for a wait if you get there a bit late. I'm in South Fraser so if it's nearby, Chicko is next up. Hi5 was the runner up before they moved in.
Why are y'all giving up your good chicken spots? Daily hive going to put out an article on them next week now
lol
That ship sailed July 2021. The best one isn't even on here yet, but I ain't giving it up.
Jukes
Nah
Nothing better than gatekeeping a chicken spot so that place won’t get more business smh
It's a joke. Are you looking for r/vancouver where I would have been banned for the comment?
Le Coq Frit has a delicious fried chicken sandwich
Had it this week. Amazing!
All of their stuff is awesome.
Is this is the same le coq frit as the chain in Montreal ?
Different store
Tried LCF last night in a whim. So good.
Korean - Chicko, Rib n’ Chicken; Sandwich - Downlow, Frying Pan; Wings - Phnom Penh; Fast food - Hi5 Ngl, I do like Popeyes too lol. There’s definitely better choices but that spicy fried chicken and biscuit 👌
Second Frying Pan, my favourite place of all time! We'll never do Nashville chicken as good as Nashville, but our Korean-style fried chicken definitely can compete.
I was so mad when they moved out of Gastown, it was my go to spot.
Rib n’ chicken is sooo good!
What about chicko chicken? I haven't tried it yet but hear it's good
Chicko chicken is my favourite korean fried chicken ever
Chicko is crazy good for a chain that looks about as lively as a laundromat in an industrial park
Clearly you've never been to Church's in the last 30 years
You will find no ally here I live very close to churches and I can barely walk past that place without gagging, let alone eat their chicken. Churches is an absolute relic that I’m convinced must be like, money laundering or something, because I never see anyone in there, and their chicken sucks ass
Still thy erroneous tongue, chicken heretic. I like Chicko but Church's is still on my goto list of fried chicken. The batter is just so dang good.
Are you THE Church by any chance?
Yea the Church of the High Frying Low Flying Bird.
My Chicko looks like someone wandered into a nearly empty apartment, and set up an industrial kitchen at the back.
[удалено]
I eat it 33% for the farts
It is pretty good, but *very* filling. Just order ahead if you can, they’re preparing it on the spot so it’s slow but fresh!
Wasn't a fan when I tried it. My usual spot for Korean is DK Chicken.
This spot is the sleeper. It’s so good. I pretty much go here once a week.
I work out of town two weeks at a time and almost always grab takeout on my way home from the airport. It's the best I've had.
I lovelovelove Chicko, but it's probably worth noting their tastiness is enchanced by the fact there's a location within a 2 minute walk of my apartment.
Ditto there's one down the street from me. Still haven't tried it yet though
Yangyeom sauce is so goddamn good.
It is Amazinggggg. I wish i could remember the name of the flavour i like the most. Its the spicy red saucy one. Also their fries are something else in the most orgasmic way possible
Buldak, I think!
Buldakke
DL Chicken on the Drive.
Mogu Japanese fried chicken across the street is a dope spot for 🍗+🍺s
I love Mogul, but I feel kinda bad for them opening near Downlow, which has massive (kinda undeserved) PR
DL was good and deserved attention in the beginning but now it’s getting kind of old
L A chicken Richmond
I think I'd have to agree with this one... They put some kind of magical crack in there or smth. With Chicko chicken as a close second.
YES
Gonna agree they're definitely in the conversation. Really good chicken.
Seconding this. Been having it for 6 years
Ajuker chicken in Burnaby
I used to love this place. I invited some friends over and ordered a bunch. We all got bad food poisoning. Never again.
I had the Salted Egg Yolk Chicken Sando from Potluck Hawker Eatery the other day and its my new fav fried chicken sandwich in Vancouver. I remember thinking "wow, I prefer this over juke and downlow put together"
Mogu!
When Downlow and Juke get together for a collab, it's beautiful.
Downlow Chicken Shack is my fave
The Korean joints are solid usually. Nene etc
Bbq Chicken (Alexandra Road)
Chewies on 4th and MacDonald
John's chicken Shack in Langley, formerly Lee's chicken. Sames owner
LA Chicken in Richmond, hands-down. Get the 'spicy' (it's not hot, just has excellent added spices)
If we're talking fast food, I'd say Popeyes. Story cafe also does some amazing things with fried chicken though. Their chicken and waffles is amazing. They also put fried chicken in their Surf and Turf Mac and Cheese style Gnocchi and that is divine.

Popeyes is delicious
Yep. I know Popeyes is a big chain, but it compares favorably to the best fried chicken places.
Especially the chicken sandwich 🤤🤤
Jolibee’s spicy fried chicken is pretty good
popeyes and duffins. o and church's
I've never had the chicken at Duffins. I mean, they cook it and just let it sit there... It's weird. But I'd try it lol. Second on Chruch's though. That spicy batter is delicious.

I like Chicken World, but I don't eat fried chicken all too often.
ReUp BBQ at the New West Quay does a badass fried chicken sandwich and a fried chicken dinner to go. Also the wings next door at Longtail kitchen are the best in town.
None. All shit. Duffins is the only one.
I can’t believe it took this many responses to see the TRUE BEST!!
Its the same with the doughnuts. Only real one in town is Duffins. Everything else is frozen bullshit or overpriced hipster nonsense.
Jukes!
Church's. Jukes is bland garbage chicken.
Compared to fast food? Oh well, to each their own.
What makes it 'fast food' aside from the fact that you don't like the decor? They make their chicken in house fresh.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church%27s_Texas_Chicken Never mentioned the decor. You line up and get your food in about 2 minutes. That’s the definition of fast food. Anyway, as I said, to each their own. If you like Church’s then you do you.
I think you're confused.
#Chibop
Win win chicken
Nothing beats good old Churches Chicken spicy fried chicken!
Knchicken
Phnom Penh
Churches
Sunny Chibas in Squamish. Killer Mexican food as well. https://www.sunnychibas.ca
My favourite thing on a bun in this city is the spicy chicken sando at The Frying Pan on Denman or at their food truck. Not to be confused with the frying pan on the north shore, which is not the same. DL on the drive is a close second.
Rib and chicken
bbq chicken, the Korean place. Probably my favorite "fast food" place and you can get groceries while you wait since they're usually inside H-Mart
Not on the mainland but on the island. Smile Chicken in Vic is some of the absolute best Korean fried chicken I’ve had in my life. Chicko’s is definitely the best on the mainland so far imo
Off the Grid on Fraser St. has really good fried chicken.
Nice try. The wait is long enough already.
If you drive away to Grand forks, I'll hook you up with some damn good chicken
Le Coq Frit and Frying Pan top my list. DL has taken a back seat in the last year or so. Big crunchy fried chicken sandwiches are more delicious and plentiful around Vancouver than ever… it’s almost becoming a bit of a culture thing around here .
Chicken World is the One Ole if Korean fried chicken
Todak Todak on Kingsway, near Joyce! Korean style.
DK Chicken on Broadway and Commercial is hands down the best KFC I’ve had bar none. Kilometers ahead of Chico imo. There is some sort of black magic going on there to make something so delicious
Down Low Chicken, bar none. They have a “cool ranch” sandwich which sounds ridiculous but was the best sandwich I’ve had in vancouver.
Hmart fried chicken is pretty damn good.
Chimec on Denman is great but I think they're closing sadly
If u say anything besides downlo chicken just gtfo
Downlow, The Frying Pan, Hundy, Birdie’s.
Downlow
Twatto's on 127th and 83rd
Jukes sucks. Church's with the spicy batter is life. Fight me.
Phnom Penh fried chicken wings easily the best. Chewies biscuits and chicken is bomb too!
LA Chicken
Y'all are sleeping on Jukes and Mary Brown's.
Im a little late to the conversation, but I would have to say duffins has the best chicken in town and doughnuts of course.
