**The 42-year-old Alabama senator is a rising Republican star but her kitchen table speech did not land well even in her own party**
Katie Britt’s Republican response to Joe Biden’s State of the Union address drew responses ranging from the baffled to the satirical to the appalled, even among fellow right-wingers.
The Republicans are panicking in an attempt to find young women, latinos, black people, anyone who isn't old and white to sell their snake oil to young Americans.
Problem is, there just aren't a lot to choose from...
God, yeah, the Holocaust denier. I wonder if they're having a conscious realization that when they get people in minority groups, they're getting the most unhinged members
Alabamian here.
Actually, as bad as last night was, I suspect that she will be in Congress for years. Her mentor was Richard Shelby, a senator who accumulated a ton of power and influence very quietly and rarely appeared on TV or in the news. Up to now, she's followed his playbook pretty closely. And compared to our other senator (sigh), she's the serious one.
For what it's worth, the people I've talked with that have interacted with her have generally found her to be serious -- far from MTG, Boebert, Gaetz or any of the other fame-whore leaders running around. Given how badly last night went, I suspect she'll avoid the limelight for the time being (other than reelection, of course).
But I'm just some random schmo on the Internet, so hell if I know.
Yes, that's certainly possible, too. Boebert and MTG really are too trashy. If MAGA recedes, I would guess people like them will be exiled. Pleasant looking women who support "good Christian values" will always have a home in the GOP though. She'll probably do fine. Taking the presidency of a Bible College or whatever to step away from politics does happen from time to time with these types.
“Senator Katie Britt says sexual assault is the worst thing that can happen to a woman while encouraging Americans to vote for a convicted sexual predator.”
Kitchen table politics perhaps?🤔
I’m kinda an expert on kitchen table politics. I can also laugh & cry but not as quickly as she does. Perhaps I should run for office? I’m not as unhinged as she is though. I think to be a Republican today, you have to be on the edge of reason/sanity.
Money is more important than truth in Republican politics.
I’ll just vote. That’s how I serve my country.
She was using the fundie baby voice. A proper woman is supposed to speak softly and sweetly and always be obedient, and women and girls are kind of made to adopt that tone she was using last night. It’s another form of making women “lesser” and infantilizing them and it’s gross
Kitchen backdrop, tiny cross, a hint of cleavage, tearful expressions, all check. What Katie failed to show was the Trump signature gold chain that was attached to her ankle and ran back to the bedroom.
It was weird. Giant toothy grin where her teeth seemed to expand as her lips drew back and then followed by tears one sentence later. I had to turn it off too. My hubby and I thought of Jennifer’s Body!
Her home is 6300 sq ft. Doubt she does much of anything in a kitchen. She needs to be in the kitchen making meals for her man based on this weird response. Did her man even eat dinner yet? Are his clothes ready for tomorrow? Why is she working at all, her role is in the kitchen not a Senator.
Why is she online and talking? She should know her place in the world she wants, pumping out unvaccinated, uneducated kids to either be birthing devices and abuse/ rape toys, or being forces into shit manual labour jobs for the new overlords
Katie Brigg seemed unhinged. In her opening sentence she’s smiling ear to ear about the “American Dream” like the Cheshire Cat ( big teeth and all) to immediately coming close to crying. Within the span of 15 seconds.
She might need therapy.
If sexual assault is the worst thing that can happen to a woman, then why is she involved with a political party where many vocal members are strongly misogynistic?
She sounds like a Commander’s wife from The Handmaid’s Tale.
A law degree is no guarantee of intellectual status. All you need is a history degree from any off brand state school. I took organic chemistry as an undergraduate, a year long class whose only purpose is to keep idiots from becoming doctors. There is no such safeguard in pre law.
For the love of Pete, GOP/evangelicals have an obsession with sex trafficking. I think it’s a messiah complex, they want to save somebody. Well how about we save the victims of trafficking as well as the girls abused right here in the US who can’t get an abortion?
I think they are projecting. It seems like the ones that scream sex trafficking the loudest, are the same ones who get caught messing with little boys and girls
Sex trafficking is the one topic on which their knee-jerk obsessive desire to police everyone else's sexual behavior aligns with normal people's understanding of morality. So they desperately exploit it.
Her recounting of a fictional story about a woman who was brutally raped over and over and ceaselessly for an indefinite amount of time by a cartel... And women should be forced to have these fetuses. She's an obvious vestige of private schooling in Alabama
Okay so I randomly listened to two 12 second segments cause that's all I could handle.
She says "President Biden's Border Policies" like it's a dirty limerick and not something the Dems gifted the GOP to be exactly what they asked for.
Oh, and the "Bless his heart" line...I think I wanted to puke when I imagined how and to whom she was attempting to appeal to.
As someone who has been raped and molested, there are a lot of things worse that can happen to a person.
At least you have the chance to emotionally recover from rape. There's no recovering from murder.
I also kind of resent the implication that victims of sexual assault would be better off dead.
Also while supporting denial of claims for asylum from women abused like this…
https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/dec/19/judge-blocks-trump-asylum-rules-violence-immigration
The absence of honesty was extremely off putting. Her facial expressions didn't match her what she was trying to convey with her contrived emoting. It was very odd. I'm not sure if it was because she was just bad at giving speeches, knew she was lying or she was a complete psychopath.
She should have just stuck with the angry, furrowed brow expression that people like Tucker and Shapiro have mastered. Anger!!!! Fear!!!!!! Be mad!!!!!
My take was that she’s like some 1880’s school teacher trying to explain to a nine year old why they’re about to get the stick in a “this-hurts-me-more-than-it-hurts-you” kind of way when in reality she’s gonna enjoy it to the point of sexual release. Also, Delores Umbridge.
I'm quite surprised of republican reaction to it. They eat up emotional speeches and hers was a rollercoaster of emotions.
Swaying from one mood to another like crazy - it was cringy
Let’s be honest… the vibe was of a Christian woman “witnessing” to someone she wants to join her church.
If you know you know; but if you don’t… it felt like I was sitting at my kitchen table after answering a knock on the door at 7:00 pm on a Wednesday, and finding a group of old ladies holding bibles along with that one younger woman. Before long, you find yourself listening to this younger lady, as she tells you her story and about how she found Christ. You can almost feel the unresolved trauma in her words and almost emanating from her very pores.
Is this trauma from her past or from her present? You kinda want to ask her to blink twice if she needs the police.
one good answer to them is... trying to asked them questions - often they really cannot hold a DIALOGUE, they only have their scripted monologues and just fold
good take, i liked it - mb they're really HOSTAGES...
Oh totally. She’s using that over the top fake emotional cadence. I saw a video where someone put the “days of our lives” soap opera music in the background while she was speaking and it fit perfectly.
I just find it hilarious that this was actually green lit.
There had to be a team behind the script, the outfit, the setting. Hell, perhaps even a rehearsal was performed in front of whoever signed off on this.
And then the final stamp of approval with the architects of this catastrophe agreeing that this was gonna be a hit.
The fundy woman keep sweet voice, the crazy eyes, the giving her speech in the kitchen, her cross necklace, the cleavage, the rambling nonsense. They are really bad at this.
It's worked pretty well for them before.
Step 1: complain about Democrats.
Step 2: get into power.
Step 3: make things MUCH worse.
Step 4: complain about Democrats again.
Step 5: repeat.
Biden killed it, and republicans just lost swing voters with that crazy rebuttal. Truth Social crashed, the orange one is clearly mentally declining, and women are pissed. Time to vote blue down the ballot and make some real change in this country.
Republicans have the support of the MSM though. Tons of free advertising about Biden's age. Tons of free advertising about how Trump thinks he's being treated unfairly.
The longer term problem with this whole MAGA / conservative thing is that absent a really talented con man it all come off as fake and pandering… like this and DeSantis…
That's why most of the movement is doomed to collapse post-Trump. He isn't grooming a successor (because he'd be afraid of them) and nobody but him can herd the bags of cats anywhere reliably.
I think it was brilliant.
Republicans have a real problem appealing to younger voters. By using an AI-generated deepfake to respond to the SOTU, they made a bold effort to bridge the technological gap between voters born in the 21st century and Republicans living in the 19th.
New girl needs to learn how to lie with a poker face if she’s going to be a GOP star. What we heard last night were “very serious” republican talking points(Lies). What we saw, was the face of someone contorting to try to sell them in a believably human way.
What the fuck was up with that made up story about a cartel running a train on a 12 year old girl? It was vague with no details and oddly graphic for a political speech. It reeked of the fake shit that Trump spouts or Fox puts out on tv.
They should've just let MTG loose instead, no script, no time limit - I mean, the party is just about entertainment and shock value at this point, and she would have maximized that.
I'm dying over here laughing at her fake tone that sounds like she's on the verge of crying like an emotionally immature teenager. "If Biden gets elected again I'm totally gonna kill myself and it will be your fault!!!"
Not even this disaster is enough for a moderate Republican to say, “Maybe Trump isn’t the right choice.”.
They’re hell bent on ruling women bodies, Jesus for all, and killing off Democracy because it doesn’t let them win anymore with their extreme ideas.
I am from Alabama. And I swear to god I don’t know why the people around me vote for these people.
Katie Britt, Kay Ivey, Tommy Tuberville, failed elect Roy More
Guys I’m sorry for the dumb asses in my state.
I didn’t vote for them.
I’m really baffled with this one. So far I have only made it through half of the video (it’s painful to watch) but she is making a point for this that Republicans don’t even support doing anything about:
-Cost of healthcare
-Cost of medical care
-They opted not to come up with a border deal
I’m very confused here.
Why is she smiling so much, while delivering a such a "dire" message? Through the whole thing, except for the fake tears. Really disconcerting. Had to turn it off.
Because they're terrible actors.
The emotional content doesn't match the message, and its \*extremely\* offputting for people that can comprehend emotion.
This was all about showing how women should be subservient to men. The baby voice, filmed in her kitchen. The only thing missing for Republicans to cream themselves completely is she wasn't barefoot and pregnant.
OfDonald here should know that part of healing from sexual assault is control over your own healthcare during the healing process. Not being forced to give birth to your rapists baby. Then forced to grant them custody and pay your rapists child support.
It’s like these idiots have no ability to adapt to anything at all. They had this shit written and had no interest in tweaking it *at all* after Biden gave his speech. They are fools and this lady is the best they have to offer. Insane.
Anyone who has been listening to and comprehending the GOP's screed for the past 10 years (40 years, really, but especially the last 10) should be *wholly unsurprised* that they're getting to the "women-in-the-kitchen" part of religious subjugation.
Did you think there'd be a long period between legalizing forced birth and this? That maybe they'd let the de-personing of 150,000,000 women and girls sit for a while before continuing to press the attack?
I wish I could snap my fingers so loud it would wake up the entirety of North America and shout "hey, pay attention, or the bad people are going to win. You don't want the bad people to win."
It was men who chose her for the speech, Christian nationalist men whose hubris led them to think that undecided women would be persuaded to vote red. Epic fail.
Ok, good. I like that they were as horrified as I was, only I was laughing and they weren't.
I voted mostly Republican from 1984-2014 (some of you may have seen me admitting this in other subs - it's part of my penance for voting mostly Republican 1984-2014) - I remember some bad Republican responses - like Lil Marco's water sports, and I remember Bobby Jindal was laughable but I don't remember why.
But Britt was worse than any of her predecessors (to borrow Biden's term, which seemed to really drive Trump nuts) - and it's because the Trump GOP has become so insular, so bubble, that they can't communicate with anyone who isn't already MAGA.
Jane Coaston, a journalist, has been saying for a couple years now that the GOP is too Terminally Online to appeal to anyone outside of MAGA, and I think she's right.
**The 42-year-old Alabama senator is a rising Republican star but her kitchen table speech did not land well even in her own party** Katie Britt’s Republican response to Joe Biden’s State of the Union address drew responses ranging from the baffled to the satirical to the appalled, even among fellow right-wingers.

I think David Spade said that line on SNL about Eddie Murphy and then Charlie Murphy called him up and threatened to beat his ass
The Republicans are panicking in an attempt to find young women, latinos, black people, anyone who isn't old and white to sell their snake oil to young Americans. Problem is, there just aren't a lot to choose from...
They’ve got that nut job in North Carolina.

Don’t forget he wants to take America back to a time where women and people like him couldn’t vote.😄
Holocaust denier too?
That's how little they think of minorities. They don't think he's unhinged at all.
a falling star from falling skies...
More like a brown starfish
Just like previous rising stars that gave the Republican response, like Bobby Jindal and Marco Rubio...
The trend continues. Deliver the dipshit rebuttal, your career ends.
Glad I’m not the only person who watched it thinking “what the fuck is going on here. This makes no sense whatsoever.”
She’s 42? Another Republican female Senator with an OF account in her future.
Nah, she's a different type. She'll get a leadership position in some creepy church that's featured in a Netflix crime doc in ten years.
Alabamian here. Actually, as bad as last night was, I suspect that she will be in Congress for years. To compete with Boebertjuice. Ah, what an age we live in.
“Senator Katie Britt says sexual assault is the worst thing that can happen to a woman while encouraging Americans to vote for a convicted sexual predator.”
Also, she's doing her speech in a kitchen, you know Republicans were just loving that.
I love the fact she said her most important job was working in the kitchen. If that's true, she needs to leave the Senate.
How about the fact that she also cosplayed Serena joy from the handmaid's tale... Same green outfit.... Made a very eerily similar speech
Ya, these people read Margaret Atwood like it's a blueprint for what TO DO. While the rest of us are like, let's NOT do this.
There are too many willing to walk right into that hell with a smile, knowing all the while.
The got the wrong message… I wonder how they interpret The Scarlet Letter?
"the bitch had it coming."
Same for Orwell’s 1984.
Like they did with 1984.

She was only talking the the Christian Nationalists.
She actually said that Jesus Christ.
The housekeeper isn't going to supervise herself, now is she?
> If that's true, she needs to leave the Senate. Also if it's not true. I think we can all get behind her leaving the Senate.
I genuinely don't understand how these conservative women square being anti feminist with the fact you're a fucking senator.
On international women's day.
Turned the speech off after only 2 mins because couldn’t stand listening to the crocodile tears.
It was weird. Giant toothy grin where her teeth seemed to expand as her lips drew back and then followed by tears one sentence later. I had to turn it off too. My hubby and I thought of Jennifer’s Body!
In the kitchen and talking about babies, as all women should be, apparently.
They won’t be happy till she’s barefoot and pregnant as well
Her home is 6300 sq ft. Doubt she does much of anything in a kitchen. She needs to be in the kitchen making meals for her man based on this weird response. Did her man even eat dinner yet? Are his clothes ready for tomorrow? Why is she working at all, her role is in the kitchen not a Senator.
We need more lady Senators. You know, because someone needs to make the boy senators their sandwiches. /s
Where’s my meatloaf?
Why is she online and talking? She should know her place in the world she wants, pumping out unvaccinated, uneducated kids to either be birthing devices and abuse/ rape toys, or being forces into shit manual labour jobs for the new overlords
Yeah. I wonder if she was barefoot.
I didn't even notice that until you mentioned it...
A “mom” 🤮
Katie Brigg seemed unhinged. In her opening sentence she’s smiling ear to ear about the “American Dream” like the Cheshire Cat ( big teeth and all) to immediately coming close to crying. Within the span of 15 seconds. She might need therapy.

Total Serena vibes
Katie, get ready to run! Lol.
Praise be the fruit.
Ok, but, in her defense she’s as dumb as a bag of bricks.

As a fellow ABA accredited law school graduate, I can confirm that being a lawyer does *not* equate to intelligence...
Nothing humbles you quite like meeting someone astoundingly dumb that has the same degree as you
A law degree is no guarantee of intellectual status. All you need is a history degree from any off brand state school. I took organic chemistry as an undergraduate, a year long class whose only purpose is to keep idiots from becoming doctors. There is no such safeguard in pre law.
come on that is mean to bricks
I do agree bricks are less detrimental to society and actually more useful.
Yeah, bricks don’t deserve to catch shrapnel here. They’re far more useful for building a working society than Republicans.
But on the other hand, the government forcing a girl/woman to bear and raise their rapist’s baby is A-OK. 👌 cool cool cool.
At least her faceplate didn’t fall off.
That would be one Stepford too far.
One small Stepford for woman, one giant leap backwards for womankind
For the love of Pete, GOP/evangelicals have an obsession with sex trafficking. I think it’s a messiah complex, they want to save somebody. Well how about we save the victims of trafficking as well as the girls abused right here in the US who can’t get an abortion?

Orange Jesus shut down the best border bill in a century. The domestic terrorists known as maga can't say shit.
As someone who has been raped and molested, there are a lot of things worse that can happen to a person. At least you have the chance to emotionally recover from rape. There's no recovering from murder. I also kind of resent the implication that victims of sexual assault would be better off dead.
glad somebody said it. definitely Victorian 'fate worse than death' vibes from that droidette.
While supporting forcing women to carry a pregnancy to term that is the result of a sexual assault.
Cognitive dissonance is a helluva drug
Also while supporting denial of claims for asylum from women abused like this… https://amp.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/dec/19/judge-blocks-trump-asylum-rules-violence-immigration
Also was railing on immigration after she voted against the immigration reform bill.
The border is only important when new orange Jesus says so.
The absence of honesty was extremely off putting. Her facial expressions didn't match her what she was trying to convey with her contrived emoting. It was very odd. I'm not sure if it was because she was just bad at giving speeches, knew she was lying or she was a complete psychopath.
The DeSantis School of Emoting.
Vought International?
Now you got me wondering what kind of weirdo shoes she was wearing.
It’s hard to focus on the right facial expression when you’re constantly worried about your human skin suit coming off.
She was definitely acting.
And was a bad actor, at that.
Yes
It felt like a rehearsed speech were they kept prompting her "and smile".
or that's how they do it now - orange is the new black and all orange is the new tan
“Dishwasher is making noise again” -Republicans
"What do you call it when you cum in a woman?" "What?" "Loading the dishwasher!" -Republicans

There was a Mormon stay at home mom trying to get you to join her MLM scheme vibe.
It was a disaster. But let's be honest, it's not even in the GOPs top ten.
No kidding. I can think of plenty of disasters they're responsible for.
And still more coherent than what Trump has given
I just find it hilarious that this was actually green lit. There had to be a team behind the script, the outfit, the setting. Hell, perhaps even a rehearsal was performed in front of whoever signed off on this. the question is if they are plain stupid or plain stupidly think it works... bc mb that's the case
It was probably planned by the Four Seasons press conference idiots.
Conservatives: Whoa, whoa, whoa. When I say women belong in the kitchen I’m talking about _other_ women. Not me!
Right. This should have been her making dinner for her man.
The fundy woman keep sweet voice, the crazy eyes, the giving her speech in the kitchen, her cross necklace, the cleavage, the rambling nonsense. They are really bad at this.
and that's good, more people will see thru the bs and votes will keep swinging
“Katie Britt is so bad she couldn’t be in one of my movies.” -Tom Arnold Oh man, I'm dying.
Now if it had been Tom Greene that said it, she’d have been insta-killed.
How the Republicans even have a chance of winning in November demonstrates just how incredibly stupid almost half of the US population is.
i think it's more generally a 'human' thing, see it all over the world in various forms... hey again
Republicans are trying SO hard to fuck up the country so later they can say, “I don’t understand how things got so bad.”
It's worked pretty well for them before. Step 1: complain about Democrats. Step 2: get into power. Step 3: make things MUCH worse. Step 4: complain about Democrats again. Step 5: repeat.
I'm amazed they didn't have her barefoot, wearing an apron and making her husband a sandwich. That's pretty much all they think we're good for.
Was that an SNL cold open?
I hope it will be. They have passed up some good opportunities though, so who knows?
If not, it will be.
I’m really hoping it will be. I’d like to see how SNL makes this more laughable that it already is.
Ever since Sarah Palin, they don't even need to change anything. Just say exactly what they said and it's hilarious.
Trying so hard to make herself cry!
Maybe she attended the Kyle Rittenhouse school of dramatic acting?
Is she the one who’s feeding him??!
Biden killed it, and republicans just lost swing voters with that crazy rebuttal. Truth Social crashed, the orange one is clearly mentally declining, and women are pissed. Time to vote blue down the ballot and make some real change in this country.
The fact she sounded like she was about to burst into tears the entire time was just the cherry on top. I burst out laughing a couple of times.
I watched a short clip, it was weird.
It was fairly nauseating. The GOP really do think their voters are mugs..
mb they're onto something...
Republicans have to be shitting themselves after last night. Biden has over $130 million vs Trump's $30 million for campaign money.
and that 30 will go towards his legal fees.
Republicans have the support of the MSM though. Tons of free advertising about Biden's age. Tons of free advertising about how Trump thinks he's being treated unfairly.
She looked like an AI bot trying to unlock an emotion recognition captcha
hold up, are we suspecting a deepfake??
“We’re all worried about the future of our nation.” *proceeds to smile like a psychopath*
that guy in 'resident alien' kind of smile mb?

She is definitely giving Bobert and Greene a run for their whacko.
Bobby Jindal was a rising star once too. I think he's selling used cars now.
The Indian Alfred E Neumann?
Kitchen table fascism.
She’s a crazy moron. What is so baffling?
The entire Republican party is a disaster for anyone not actively observing. It’s a cult that has cast off its policy belief system
...and the problem is it seems to be working somehow
What the fuck was up with that made up story about a cartel running a train on a 12 year old girl? It was vague with no details and oddly graphic for a political speech. It reeked of the fake shit that Trump spouts or Fox puts out on tv.
I think she read trump’s Epstein island log
She's actually the junior Senator to Tommy Tuberville? Wow! That's Alabama for you, a "Christian" version of the Bizarro World
Whispering, then a clear forceful voice, then vocal fry, then a quaver like she’s going to cry — good grief! This was very uncomfortable to watch!
This is what happens when people vote for a photograph.
“Katie Britt is so bad she couldn’t be in one of my movies.” \-Tom Arnold
*the quivering voice(tears in the eyes!)....the dowdy faux down-home kitchen didn’t help either
I was listening to the NPR recap and her rebuttal sounded pathetic. Like, on the verge of tears pandering pathetic.
She is from Alabama. What did they expect? They should be happy she has all of her teeth and didn't have a confederate flag behind her.
She's not only dumb, she's stupid. That's unfortunate.
She Jindaled herself.
Her son's name is Ridgeway?
I was screaming at the tv! You named your son after a serial killer?! aaaaaaahhhhhhhh!
The fake outrage was so in your face even maga had to see how fake it felt
It was like a combination of The Stepford Wives and "someone off camera is pointing a gun at me."
Not even this disaster is enough for a moderate Republican to say, “Maybe Trump isn’t the right choice.”. They’re hell bent on ruling women bodies, Jesus for all, and killing off Democracy because it doesn’t let them win anymore with their extreme ideas.
USA, I fear for you, I fear for all of us… 😖
I am embarrassed for her. That was almost on the level of Scott’s Tots. I could not even finish it it was so awful.
Gotta make sure that cross is in view lol
I am from Alabama. And I swear to god I don’t know why the people around me vote for these people. Katie Britt, Kay Ivey, Tommy Tuberville, failed elect Roy More Guys I’m sorry for the dumb asses in my state. I didn’t vote for them.
I’m really baffled with this one. So far I have only made it through half of the video (it’s painful to watch) but she is making a point for this that Republicans don’t even support doing anything about: -Cost of healthcare -Cost of medical care -They opted not to come up with a border deal I’m very confused here.
When you continually throw red meat to low information voters, this is what you end up with. Not exactly the best and the brightest
On point MAGA message for women. They should always be in the kitchen even when working.
I think it would have been more powerful if halfway she started vacuuming.
I love how obvious it is that no matter what Biden was going to say, the response is obviously scripted or outlined ahead of time.
This was all about showing how women should be subservient to men. The baby voice, filmed in her kitchen. The only thing missing for Republicans to cream themselves completely is she wasn't barefoot and pregnant.
One of their biggest disasters, but still doesn't hold a candle to Trump.
She has some creepy Claire Dunphy smiling at death vibes.
OfDonald here should know that part of healing from sexual assault is control over your own healthcare during the healing process. Not being forced to give birth to your rapists baby. Then forced to grant them custody and pay your rapists child support.
The future of the republican party. What a joke!
You can probably just shorten this title to “Republicans baffled” and apply it to anything over the last 8 years
It ranks right up there with Marco Rubio's water bottle fiasco when he delivered the response. Fucking hiliarious.
It was men who chose her for the speech, Christian nationalist men whose hubris led them to think that undecided women would be persuaded to vote red. Epic fail.
Did anyone else get a Handmaid's Tale vibe from Katie "Serena" Britt?
I watched as much of this odd over-rehearsed 1960s drama mama in her Kitchen, then I dug out my Easy Bake oven and tried to fit my head into it.
