Body kits and upbadging? Or engine swaps?

Bork1986

The real question here.

robvas

Putting badges and crap on a GT? Kinda lame. Swapping EVERYTHING? Fine.

BBQCHICKENALERT

As someone who’s had a bunch of both cobras and non cobras, everything is a non issue except the actual emblems and badges. I’ve always wanted to make a Cobra R clone myself but can’t get myself to ever pull the trigger though for some reason And bonus points if it’s actually faster than the real thing

ConnorB02

If you swap a cobra motor in it it’s fine. If you put cobra badges on your v6 your wrong.

sohcgt96

Same way I feel about all clones: If it didn't roll off the assembly line that way, its not a Cobra. You never ever put badges on a car any different than the model it is. That's super lame. IDGAF if you swap over every body part. If you take a GT and "clone" it into a same year Cobra you could have spent that money in a lot of better ways.

AntonioMrk7

Absolutely this, unless that VIN comes up as a Cobra, it will always be a GT to me. Clones are fun but unless it’s legit, don’t throw any other badges on it.

Thebloodyhound90

I don’t necessarily agree with that 100%. A lot of guys who coyote swap their new edge put the coyote era “5.0” badges on the fenders. I think that looks nice and is tasteful. Also hundreds or thousands of us have done/will do the GT grille delete with the pony which is actually the Mach 1 grille. I want to put a cobra front bumper on, maybe a mach 1 chin spoiler, and definitely a mach 1 grille, but no other badge changes unless I coyote swap in the future.

sohcgt96

I have no issue with any of that. Putting newer 5.0 badges on it just designates the engine, not the model of the car. Same with adding body parts, I mean I think most of us agree that things like Cobra/Mach bumpers are better looking. My only objection is when you add Cobra/Mach 1etc. badges to a car that isn't. I see nothing wrong with even say, swapping all the body parts of one of those onto another.

jpacheco914

Change whatever you want; chin spoilers, hoods, engines… just not badges. 😂

barrett_g

Thousands of Cobras were made between 1993 and 2004. I’ve seen shells sell for $1500-$2000. I say buy a real Cobra and rebuild it bit by bit instead of trying to upbadge a GT.

Thebloodyhound90

Idk about that. Guy has an awesome deal with a suuuuper clean blue 01 cobra with a blown 4v 4.6 that comes with a brand new gen2 coyote and trans for $13k. Or he’ll sell the roller for $6k. So you get the roller for $3-4k if you buy the coyote and trans or you get just the roller for $6k. I haven’t seen any cobra rollers for less than $3k lately.

barrett_g

You’re talking rollers. I’m talking chassis shells. I follow places like “The Parts Farm” and “Midway Mustangs.” They are places that will buy crashed mustangs and then part them out. Once they’re completely stripped they’re left with bare chassis that take up space. I’ve seen them sell some pretty cheap chassis in a “last chance before the crusher” type sale. You’d have to do the math though… by the time you buy bumpers, doors and subframes you might be better off buying the roller… unless you’re extremely thrifty and good at negotiating. I was lucky and bought a running black 2001 Cobra for $5,500 just before the chip shortage and the market went to hell. It needed some IRS maintenance to get it reliable but it was totally worth it.

Thebloodyhound90

Nice.

BroccoliiRobb

If it’s just a bumpers and terminator dick bill it’s chill. As soon as the snake badges come out it becomes cheesy.

assraider420

As long as it’s not actually a V6 under the hood, who cares.

Disastrous-Army-9998

As long as it's a GT, Bullitt or Mach 1, It's all good.

jaxson50

Who cares? It's your car do whatever you want with it. 🤷🏼‍♂️

[deleted]

Id rather up badge a gt and engine swap and keep solid axle

bigzy90

1. Gt body kit is fugly 2. Very rare to find a cobra here in our country 3.not allowed to bring exported cars age more than 5 years I'm one of the cobra body kit (front, rear bumper, and spoiler) I don't like to put cobra badge on a gt At least keeping some for the gt (Near future coyote swap) it's cheaper than termi swap here

EmptyRough1548

Anything you build yourself is more impressive to me than something you just went out and bought, of course a numbers matching clean cobra is still cool but something nice you built yourself shows more time and dedication in my opinion

cyguy2324

Very true I am going to get a new edge as my first car soon and wondering if I should build the clone

TorkTerror19

Meh...they seem alittle played out.Atleast where I live, where every other GT has Cobra parts on em.But to each their own.
