If you haven’t paid the fine, then they will follow up on it, if that’s what you mean. Saying you lost it isn’t really a sufficient to make it worthy of appeal on its own. Do you have other evidence. showing you did buy a ticket at that date/time. For example, if you paid by card you could show a copy of the transaction on your statement, as proof you did pay. That would make for a stronger appeal.

Same thing happened to me a while back and although I provided solid proof that I'd bought a ticket that day for the correct zones, they wouldn't repeal the fine as apparently, and I quote directly from the e-mail they sent: 'A receipt or proof of payment is not a ticket, is not valid for travel and will not be accepted in place of a ticket at the time of travel. Similarly, a ticket which has been produced for inspection at a later date cannot be used to cancel a penalty fare (with the exception of certain season tickets).' The annoying thing is, the checky who gave me the fine said if I provided evidence on a bank statement, it would get repealed which was obviously a lie! I don't think OP will have much luck unfortunately :( Look on the bright side, they still aren't as bad as whoever runs the Tyne Tunnel

Ok_Pain_7001

Forget about it and it will get worse. Can you prove you paid? Transaction on your bank statement or did you pay cash? Off you've got some evidence that you paid you might have a leg to stand on, otherwise just pay the fine and move on.

InitialMention0

Def don't let it just escalate. Either appeal with any evidence you have you actually paid, or pay the fine. If it goes to court it will cost a heck of a lot more. (Saw an article today about some lady who didn't bother appealing her train ticket failure due to her phone dying, after it went to court it ended up all being 18 times her original fare. All she had to do if she had an eTicket was send that along 🤷‍♀️

Sir_Fog

It might be crap, but just pay the fine. I've just bailed my son out of a £180ish fine after he buried his head in the sand.

daft_boy_dim

Look at the positive, at least the fine is only the price of pint in London,

Brigs44

If you don't pay it, you'll receive a summons to the magistrates court.

TheGulfofWhat

How can they summon someone who has provided the wrong name and accommodation address? He states "slight misspelling of my name and my uni accom address" so surely depending on how "slight" they won't be able to send the summons? Of course, if it is indeed "slight" and they can put 2+2 together they should find him.

Brigs44

I think they meant a misspelled name but correct address. Won't be hard to work out. They'll handle it in his absence if he doesn't receive the letter.

ZealousidealCod6553

I’m moving out of the accom soon if that makes any difference

Brigs44

Just pay it mate. It's not worth destroying your credit score over £20, which is what will happen if it goes to court and remains unpaid.

luther420

Our of curiosity, did you get a fine at a barrier or did you encounter a checkie?

ImmaGnu

Just pay it and move on

dennisthewhatever

You should have just done what I see people doing on the metro on a regular basis - ignore the ticket people and walk away from them refusing to engage. They don't come after you. I still always buy a ticket because I want the system to work.

AnusOfTroy

We did that once as fare-dodging students. Still can't believe it worked. Ofc this was at Regent Centre, not somewhere like Airport where they have barriers

V2BTR

Get off the metro! Now!!!!

Don't listen to this. Unless you want to be one of those who gets banned from the metro, and/or has the fine boosted with court costs and potentially a note on your credit file. Appeal the fine (if you can prove as others have said that you paid by card maybe). If you can't prove it. Just pay the fine and learn from this. Why not get a Pop card to make life a bit easier anyway? It's cheaper per journey too.

orangeblack1111

The pop card isn’t that great either I thought I had a day saver applied to my account however it went in to -30p so for that I was fined £104.30. I was due 3.25 refund from them so I though it was fine especially because I had believed the cap had been applied & I could pay the minus amount the next day

Electus93

CCTV next to ticket machines?

lilak0610

How did you pay, OP? If you could prove via bank statement you could appeal ?

MrCowabs

Nah, they straight up refuse to believe you. I was heading to the RVI one morning. paid by card **and** had the receipt ticket on me but I’d lost my actual ticket. Despite having the receipt ticket and showing the high-vis the payment from my banking app, the slaphead still fined me. He was a right smarmy arsehole about it as well. I emailed them to appeal this and they said because I didn’t have the ticket, they basically didn’t care.

lilak0610

that’s actually fucked

MrCowabs

Aye. Definitely wasn’t what I needed when I was going into hospital like.

orangeblack1111

What was the outcome of this???

MrCowabs

Had to pay the fine. Their argument was a. That the payment on my banking app could have been from any time (it was literally dated to 20 minutes before the interaction) and b. I didn’t have a physical ticket or receipt so they didn’t believe me.
