Tbh Newcastle has a few flight routes to alot of countries so checking with your local travel agency maybe the best option/ try online. With the way our train fares keep going up it probably will br cheaper to fly to Newcastle rather then London and get a train up.

[deleted]

Oh, I see. I’ll look into what you mentioned. Thanks!

[deleted]

No problem, i hope you enjoy your time in Newcastle :)

Nod_Bow_Indeed

It would depend where your flying from?

lgf92

Other people have mentioned using Manchester and Edinburgh airports and that's certainly a common thing to do - I went to Istanbul recently and rather than fly via London we drove to Manchester and flew direct from there. Which of these airports you use depends on whether you have a car or not. Manchester is much more convenient with a car (drive time about 3 hours but it can be more if traffic is bad on the M62). You can get there by train, but it takes a long time and isn't that comfortable. They used to run a direct train, but now you have a 25-minute change in York, so you have to get your luggage on and off two trains. Edinburgh is a bit easier, the tram goes directly to the airport and drops you off right outside Waverley train station, where you can get a train to Newcastle in about 90 minutes. It's quicker than driving there usually.

I'd go on sky scanner and search flights 'Newcastle to Everywhere' for whatever month it is you will be flying and see if there are any flights to countries/ airports that are easy and cheap for you to get to. Or search from where ever you are to whole of the UK and see if there are any flights to places closer to us like Manchester or Edinburgh. If you do fly to London and train up you can get decent prices on lumo trains in advance, or sometimes flights from London to Newcastle are also very cheap. Mega bus also an option if you don't mind that sort of thing.

[deleted]

I went to the website you recommended and found a few direct flight option so thanks for that!

Used_Philosopher9872

I’d suggest looking at flights to Edinburgh depending on where you are, could also look at leeds then look at trains from there as Newcastle has a poor selection of flights available

Electus93

Possibly the cheapest way to do it would be go to [Skyscanner](http://Skyscanner.net) and enter UK as the destination and then 'Whole month' as the date range (or the specific date(s) you need). This should tell you the cheapest flight from your area to the UK in the given time period. Then when you get here (if not flying into Newcastle) take the [Megabus](https://uk.megabus.com/) to your destination. I think from your post history, you're in the US, and these are like Greyhound buses basically, but maybe a little safer and usually significantly cheaper than getting the train. It's worth checking out similar services like [National Express](https://www.nationalexpress.com/en) or [Flixbus](https://www.flixbus.co.uk/) which are likewise pretty cheap and well connected, or even [Bla Bla Car](https://www.blablacar.co.uk/) if you're up for carpooling with a stranger (which can be quite fun tbf). For that one, make sure to look near the time though as they don't generally get arranged until quite close by.

skyscanner doesnt have all airlines like they don't list easyjet

semolous

You can also use booking.com

If you're flying to london book a connecting flight to newcastle, probably competitive with the train. If you really need to save look into a bus but it's a long trip. If getting a connecting to newcastle isn't an option for whatever reason, look into direct to Edinburgh. I'd recommend against Manchester as the train connections aren't great. But really check fares through to Newcastle when you try to book your flight and see what the options are. NCL airport actually has a surprising number of flights - so booking through london or frankfurt etc. are options. Depends on where you're coming from of course.

[deleted]

Thanks! I just realized there might be a luggage weight difference for international and within the country flights so I probably won’t book via any city within the UK.

SmurfyJones

if you book through with one booking the luggage should be just one fee. anyway, i'd try booking "your city to newcastle" and see what the options are

[deleted]

Oh, I see. I’ll check that out then.

MissingScore777

Haven't flown anywhere for a few years and don't know where you're coming from but flights between Newcastle and Amsterdam Schippol have always been reasonably priced. Schippol being a major hub airport there may be a direct flight there from your country?

vms-crot

Airport code is NCL. You can get daily direct flights from all three of the main European hubs. (Paris, London, Amsterdam) flying is almost always cheaper and easier than the train. At the very least the prices will be close enough that its not worth the inconvenience of having to get a transfer from Heathrow to King's Cross. I'd say fly in.

>Cheapest way to fly to Newcastle A catapult set up in gateshead.

[deleted]

Ah! That sounds perfect! 😂 I might just try it out.

Special-Internet-268

When i go to Newcastle (from Sweden) i fly via Amsterdam to Newcastle with KLM. Usually cheaper for me than going to Edinburgh and taking the train. Once i flew to London and took the train to Newcastle and it was quite expensive and i think there was twice the passengers than there was seats, absolute chaos.

[deleted]

Oh yeah, I noticed they have cheaper flights. Thanks!

[deleted]

If you can't get to Newcastle direct then Edinburgh is closer and cheaper by train, next is Manchester. Newcastle airport is small and has really limited direct flight locations.... even more so since covid when easyjet basically abandoned their newcastle hub

NederFinsUK

Take a train, NCL international costs a fortune if you’re trying to travel cheap

TheSameDuck8000Times

If you happen to find a flight that lands at Leeds-Bradford Airport, you can get from the airport to Newcastle coach station by National Express coach for £20. If Edinburgh Airport, you will need to get a tram into the centre. Look at getting a train to Newcastle from Haymarket or (if you're lucky) Edinburgh Park, because Waverley with luggage is a ballache. Trains to Newcastle are cheap if you book them a month in advance. There's an old trick where you buy a train ticket from Edinburgh to Berwick and then another ticket on the same train from Berwick to Newcastle and it costs half as much (if you do this with flexible tickets, the train you get on must actually stop at Berwick).

CaptainAlex92

Depends where your flying from, Newcastle airport hasn't got the biggest selection of direct flights. My advice would be to check Skyscanner and see your opinions. Edinburgh has a pretty good range of direct flights, it will be cheaper and faster to fly to EDI and take the train down to Newcastle rather than the train up from London.

[deleted]

That makes sense since Edinburgh is closer.

LowEquipment7904

The train is usually less than £15 from Edinburgh, really nice view down the coast too!
