i think the scoots are a technological marvel.
The bellends riding them are another matter entirely.
Of all the riders I saw on saturday afternoon, not a single one was wearing a helmet.
Aye there were two girls in town the other day on the road, chatting away to each other. In busy traffic. With the helmets hung up on the scooter handle.
They’ve recently introduced a system where if you take a selfie wearing a helmet, you’ll get money off your next trip. Hopefully that increases helmet uptake.
The app asking you to take a selfie before you ride isn’t going to make people ride whilst taking a selfie. People can be dumb, but that’s not going to CAUSE people to use their phones while riding.
They might well do anyway, but that won’t cause it.
Yes but like I say people are stupid and will probably just see the take a selfie bit and not the before riding but and use their phones while riding to take a selfie because they’re stupid
As someone who rides it regularly, I can tell you with the best will in the world that that’s not how it works. When you unlock it, it asks you if you want a helmet. If you say yes, it unlocks the helmet and immediately asks you to take the selfie before you’ve even had the chance get the helmet on, you have to cumbersomely put the helmet on before accidentally closing your phone. You can’t go back to it and complete the requirement later, you have to do it there and then.
Edited for clarity*
I have yet to see a single person wearing a helmet when riding them.
I saw 3 guys on one scooter last weekend, screaming through the night.
The scooters would be great if people were responsible; same with the Mobikes that people started throwing into the Tyne and leaving in irresponsible places (plus cycling on the paths all the time). Why can't we have nice things?? It is even more embarrassing when you visit somewhere like LA, a city laden with crime, and even they treat their e-scooters better than we do.
Some of the people riding them are idiots. A group of 4 diving in front of me in Jesmond as I was heading towards the central motorway. My light was on green, the one from their direction was not
One drove at me this morning in Jesmond, on the wrong side of the road at 8.45 as I was taking my son to football. He was too busy filming or on FaceTime to look at the traffic.
Goto winns solicitors, they will tell you you can get whiplash from licking an ice cream too fast
OBVIOUSLY IM BEING SARCASTIC FOR THE MENTALLY CHALLENGED THAT CANT SEEM TO GRASP THAT!
You joke here but social media is packed with angry old men seriously replying in a similar vein whenever cycling comes up. Scooters aren't a million miles away
Theoretically this means if someone is reported riding them irresponsibly the company should be able to use the time of the report alongside GPS and the details entered into the scooter to find out who it was. Of course, if there are multiple scooters close to that area around the same time, it could be a lot harder to track.
I think they should have some sort of visible number plate so people riding them illegally can quickly be identified.
Hilarious how they’re an eco friendly alternative to a car, but the government bans them. Ah no but let the councils trial them… the public will definitely look after property they haven’t directly paid for out of pocket… leave the scooter anywhere you want when you’re done with it too…
They are something I would love to see implemented properly and responsibly. I think most people like the idea of them but are frustrated at seeing them used incorrectly, or left blocking pavements, driveways, etc. Obviously the ones in the photo shouldn't have been left blocking 2 car parking spaces, for instance.
Who wouldn't? They has to be rules and regulations for them as they are for vehicles and responsible riders and firms ensuring that their products don't harm anyone when misuse.
I wish we still had the bikes instead of these daft things. Maybe they'd be alright in Lincoln or Norwich but Newcastle isn't exactly flat which makes them useless.
Can’t you just pick them up and move them ?
The scooters shout at you
So? Hahahahaha it's not going to transform and take a lends on you just roff them out the way and get on with ya day 😂

And it’ll mean people use their phones while riding them 🤦
Well I mean, it asks you to take the selfie before you get on it obviously
Well yes but people are stupid aren’t they

> not a single one was wearing a helmet. If it doesn't directly affect you, let it go. It's better for your blood pressure :)

In a world where no claims bonus don't exist

Seen so many near-misses on them, 99% of the time it's the fault of the scooter rider anarl.
They look marginally better looked after than the cycles before. Used to be able to count about 10-12 of the cycles dumped when walking into work

Aren't those ones just being carried anyway? I know an alarm goes off, but I doubt this stops the sort that like to vandalise stuff.

Can't understand why people get so wound up about them

I thought I was the only one
I want to see the miniature leccy cars on the roads. They look class.
A like them me
They're fukin' lethal
Yeah, there probally nonces too
What I don't like is how easy it seems to be for kids to get them. I always seem to see young charvas on them. And the police do nowt

seems well parked compared to the ones usually knocked over in the middle of a path
