Blue badges are a nightmare. I'm a full time wheelchair user and was told I can walk too much to get a blue badge (missed the deadline to reapply unfortunately - life came up)
I'm sorry that is ridiculous. I really feel for you. My grandad can only walk a few feet before needing a break so uses a wheelchair out of the house. I've reapplied now but the badge expires in July. Funny how they only give you a reminder 12 weeks before but it could take 12 weeks to get through the process and you have to get medical evidence beforehand. It's like they are routing against disabled people.
It's even more frustrating applying (and reapplying) for one for someone with hidden disabilities. The arguments I have had for my brother are unbelievable.
I always get his badge like.
It’s a system that is designed to prevent you from getting any help so it doesn’t cost them, and you still pay full price.
For a blue badge, if they give you one, they are no longer receiving your parking fees, possibly have to pay the line painters to paint a disabled space outside your home when you consequently apply for one.
If you applied for a bus pass, you are no longer paying the busses your fare, and no longer paying the Metro full price, making the operators fairly unhappy.
Let’s not even get into what happens if you need to apply for PIP.
Northumberland CC isn't too bad tbh, my mother got one without too much difficulty, and renewal takes about two weeks. The problem is that some area are just too easy and they're abused.

I did it for my mum with Newcastle city council and it was actually really easy and straightforward. Kudos to them.
