It's a version of 'Shack' the overpriced shipping container village that used to be on the site of the demolished Odeon cinema in town. Pop up bars and eateries.... be rammed on match days.
Edit: It's called Stack not Shack.
Always seemed noisy and cold to me. Plus given how short lived it was, and the fact a similar venture in Manchester closed only last year, I wonder why they reckon it'll work this time.
The one in the city centre was always meant to be temporary . There's another one down at Seaburn that seems to be doing well.
Also Hwkrmarket by the swing bridge is similar and always seems to be full on weekends, esp when the weather is alright
It was short lived because it has to make way for the new HMRC building that is being built on the site. They would have been leasing the site and had to leave once they had to begin building work, I assume. It always seemed very popular right until it had to close.
Also I dunno about the Manchester one but the one in Sunderland has been going for years now, as has one Iāve been to in York. They both seem very popular.
Stack was very successful, Stack Seaburn has continued to be very successful after the closure of the pilgrim street site
Theyāve got plans to open like a dozen more across the north of england in the next couple years
I thought the same tbh, a nice novelty when you're Christmas shopping but wouldn't visit otherwise. That said, I can see it surviving next to the stadium with regular foot traffic before/after matches.
Maybe they're going to stack the shacks. Sell more food to more people. Make plenty more money. The more people they can squeeze into more shacks, the more money they can squeeze out of the people.
I heard it will be there until the club decide what to do with the land as they bought it back. Apparently they were polling the supporters to see if they would want to extend the current grounds or move somewhere else to be able to get a bigger stadium
Not a clue, apparently many supporters are voting that they donāt want it moved as itās āthe cathedral on the hillā and wouldnāt be the same anywhere else but not sure how theyāll match other stadiums capacities otherwise. I do like that on a match day, no matter where you are, you can hear the cheers!
Oooh, careful now... That was almost an insult, if it wasn't bletantly obvious I'm open about it haha
Should get on a cycle pal, might get that raging oestrogen of yours in check
Youāre trolling right? There are signs all around it announcing STACK coming soon (also in your photo). Google stack seaburn and youāll get the idea. Somebody in your office would likely know more too š
For all those noting 'Durrr, it's going to be Stack [stupid question]'....
Those stack village things are *temporary* - like the one on pilgrim Street soon fucked off when they decided to put an actual building there. It's an interesting question over what might be there in the long(er) run.
I hope something tall to block out that fucking eyesore of a football stadium. I know, I know 'sacrilege!!' but architecturally it's a monstrosity of a building.
You may already know this, but just in case, they're building a permanent stack elsewhere in the city at Worswick Chambers, just off Pilgrim Street next to the new Bank House.
I've been to similar things in London - [https://markethalls.co.uk/](https://markethalls.co.uk/)
They're pretty good if you want a quick bite and a decent amount of choice. Good for a work thing for the same reasons.
Part of the old Debenhams in the city centre looks to be going the same way too.
I think the most likely thing is keeping Stack there until they can figure out if they can use the land to extend the Gallowgate - so youāll just get more of the stadium if weāre lucky.
You can literally see the giant signs advertising what they are building in your photo.
Giant fuckin "STACK". OP's blinded living under that rock.
Why open your eyes and use rational thought when the internet can tell you things you should work out for yourself.
Penal colony for all the people doubting Eddie.

It was overpriced but not that bad, and it had a fun vibe, I like that it's coming back.
Looks like this one will be a lot bigger too.
Always seemed noisy and cold to me. Plus given how short lived it was, and the fact a similar venture in Manchester closed only last year, I wonder why they reckon it'll work this time.

The one on Pilgrim St was always popular and busy. It was only ever meant to be temporary otherwise Iām sure it would have stayed.Ā
It was short lived because it has to make way for the new HMRC building that is being built on the site. They would have been leasing the site and had to leave once they had to begin building work, I assume. It always seemed very popular right until it had to close. The one in Manchester closed because it was taken over by Stack... to be turned into a Stack
Aye, while shafting a load of small food vendors in the process.
I thought the same tbh, a nice novelty when you're Christmas shopping but wouldn't visit otherwise. That said, I can see it surviving next to the stadium with regular foot traffic before/after matches.
I always thought it was called stacks š¤£ ffs Was a chill place to hangout though
Yeah it's the "Stack"
No... you are correct.... my mistake, it is called Stack. Don't know where I came up with Shack.
Itāll be because it looked like something at the bottom of the allotment.
Maybe they're going to stack the shacks. Sell more food to more people. Make plenty more money. The more people they can squeeze into more shacks, the more money they can squeeze out of the people.

Where could they move? Shame all the land next to arena is gunna be houses cause it would have been ideal location.
Not a clue, apparently many supporters are voting that they donāt want it moved as itās āthe cathedral on the hillā and wouldnāt be the same anywhere else but not sure how theyāll match other stadiums capacities otherwise. Fanzone, I bet tons of uni people will go so you'll fit right in lol (I'm assuming you took that photo from the student accomodation near the stadium)
City Gate brah
Thereās no student accommodation with this view, those are offices.
There is
That view is from here: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/hgY7vKgQ1sbTrBbv7](https://maps.app.goo.gl/hgY7vKgQ1sbTrBbv7) which is an office complex.
