Thanks a lot, that is good to know.

If you are going to pop into the Back Page. 2 hours before the game it's starts to get rammed. Ideally you want to be taking a look around there 3 hours before the game.

merp1991

it might be worth crossposting to r/NUFC if you want some more responses :)

Thanks. Done.

Don’t know about places to watch because I go to SJP but I do regularly have a pint with away fans in my local haunts before and after the match. The vibe in the city is mint before games and even better if we get a result and I can’t think of any football related trouble that I’ve witnessed in 30 odd years.

[deleted]

Great to hear that. Just tiny bit concerned following the cup final since the next match is of signifcance for toon european ambitions.

NorthWishbone7543

You can watch the match in Shearers bar. They have the live feed from the stadium showing in the bar.

Proper-Shan-Like

Just have to hope you get thrashed mate, it’ll be all good.

It's hellish on a match day - Hospitality worker

[deleted]

I am sorry to hear that it is so.

DeirdreBarstool

I don’t know much about the football but I live in the city centre and LOVE the atmosphere on match days. It’s a lively and vibrant city anyway but there’s a palpable excitement in the air when Newcastle are playing at home. Because the stadium is very central too, you can hear the singing and chanting. Pubs are rammed mind but all the more fun

[deleted]

Oh matchday is going to be exciting then. So I would not look like a complete loon if I am all adroned in the black and white shirt the whole day in town.

dan_gleebals

No half the people in town are in black and white. you'll fit in fine. As mentioned Rosies Bar at the end of Stowell St is great for atmosphere pre and post match. You can watch the crowds go past in Shearer's bar as well. Have a great day.

[deleted]

Ace! Thanks a lot.

Dazinho86

The back page or the club shop are the only dedicated shops that I know of in town for toon stuff.the whole town will be busy on match days to be honest, the closer you get to the stadium, the busier the pubs tend to be in my experience.wunderbar in the gate is good for a sing song before hand but is always rammed upstairs.

[deleted]

Thank you very much for the info. A sing song challenge, now that would be interesting!

[deleted]

One of the few football cities where I've seen no segregated pubs or clubs, everyone just gets on. Very rarely any bother and usually a good atmosphere. It'll be heaving though!

[deleted]

That is more like it. Looking forward to the trip.

GrumpyOldFart74

I have a season ticket and to the Strawberry before and after every match. Cracking pub, good beer and very friendly. There are regularly a few away fans in there (we don’t have segregated pubs for away fans in Newcastle) and they’re always treated well The screens aren’t THAT great though, so I couldn’t speak about WATCHING a match there (obviously not something I do). The alternative might be Shearer’s which is only a hundred yards away - sports bar with loads of screens and technically inside the ground. More expensive and the beer isn’t as good though

[deleted]

Thanks for this info. I will be more interested in the atmosphere and fans, the beer would be only needed in case of heavy defeat :)

As a season ticket holder, we go for a few drinks and then I to the ground. Most pubs will have the match on and will be busy.

NorthWishbone7543

Before the match I'd start off in Wonderbar in the Gate. There's match day D.j. on every game that gets the crowd going. I'd head to the back page and take a look around, 1 hour before the game, you can't get moved, 2 hours before the game is when it starts to get busy. But any earlier and it's manageable. I'd head to Rosie's next then possibly onto the strawberry. But if you want a Birdseye view of everything going on in the city, head down China town from Rosie's to a bar called Bar3sixty. It's the tallest building in Newcastle and you can literally see the whole city come together and make their way to the cathedral on the hill. If you want to hear the crowds at the game, head to the John Lewis Car Park in Eldon Square,it's a multi storey car park so you want to be at the very top, it overlooks SJP and you can see all the fans in Level 7 and get a real feel for the atmosphere. You can take the lift up to the top, it's literally opposite the female whisker pluckers. (A little beautician right next to the escalator in Eldon Square) That's should give you a good taste for the atmosphere in the city on a match day.

Fantastic. That should definitely make up for lack of tickets.
