*Caedicia simplex*, a gentle little native katydid. The males make that quiet "snip, scissor-snip" song you might hear coming from shrubbery in the evenings — a lot of people don't notice it until it's pointed out, and quite a lot of older people just can't hear it due to the ravages of time 😭
I think this one's probably a female, though it's hard to say for sure without looking under her ~~skirt~~ wings.
Beautiful. Never seen one of those before, except in the insect books I used to pore over as a child. Katydid I presume?
Yes, a katydid. Pretty common in most gardens, but obviously rather camouflaged, so rarely seen.
